We sat down to a wonderful meal with great service. Miles was our server, and we enjoyed great conversation. The food was fresh and delicious! We had the dolmades & falafel, and then the meat platter with lamb & chicken. Plenty for 2 of us. We will be returning with the whole family soon. Thanks for a great experience & meal!
Wow. Met friends here for the first time. It was AWESOME!! Fernando was the nicest waiter I have ever had. ASK FOR HIM!! I rarely post so u KNOW Alekos must be fabulous for me to take the time to write this review. Go try it for yourself. You will not be disappointed.
Best falafel. Great people. Even the wheat protein (thick tofu but not rubbery) is delish. Fresh, perfectly spiced. Amazing! (New restaurant is perfect!)
While we've gotten takeout from Aleko's for years, tonight we had dinner in their new dining room. The space was very welcoming and nicely decorated. The dinners we ordered, the shrimp platter and the salmon platter, were both excellent. The beer list wasn't large, but they had my favorite Brewer's Alley Brickhouse Oatmeal Stout, so all was good. We got the Orange Cake for dessert, which I'd never had before, and it was deliciously moist and flavorful. Joanna and her team have done an excellent job with this restaurant and I highly recommend it.
Never had a bad dish and I have tried most of them. Love that they know it's by name and know what we love. Great vegetarian options and great choices for kids, too! All of the workers are friendly and seem happy to be there. Take it to go or stay in the new dinner in area, just don't forget to try the baklava!
Aleko's dining experience was superb! I highly recommend the Meat Sampler and then share a slice of the Bakleva cheesecake. Thanks, Aleko's staff! Great job!
Absolutely outstanding Greek food! Every dish is rich in authentic flavor, perfectly seasoned, and made with the freshest ingredients. From the tender, juicy meats to the perfectly balanced sides and traditional desserts, everything tastes homemade and true to Greek tradition. The presentation is elegant, the portions are generous, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. You can truly taste the care and passion in every bite. Hands down some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had—highly recommended!
Last night we had dinner here with another couple. We were greeted and seated right away. Fernando was our server. He was excellent! The wine, appetizers, entrees and desserts were amazing! We will be back soon.
What an awesome new restaurant! The atmosphere, service and food were all outstanding. We were so happy we came. The owner was very personable and made us feel very welcomed. A great addition to the Middletown community!
Delicious Fire Feta dip! The Meat Sampler is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The Souvlaki chicken platter is so refreshing with the house made Tzatziki and added Basmati rice. We had the hummus platter with eggplant dip and added a spoonful of the fire feta dip to the Chicken and Orzo soup which was the perfect combination of heat for a cold December day. Even the hot tea was delicious! Can’t wait to try the salads!!!
It was an extremely busy night and service started off slow but in Alekos style we were treated with respect and the owner made sure we were taken care of. Great food and great family owned business. Highly recommended.
I’ve been eating at Alekos for over 20 years— and last night’s meal reminded me why I’ve kept coming back. The shift to dine-in has been a total game-changer: hot, fresh dishes straight from the kitchen made a world of difference. The moment we walked in the atmosphere felt like home: warm lighting, welcoming energy, and that comforting Greek-tavern charm. The food was exceptional — especially the feta cheese, which was creamy, fresh, and full of flavor — even better than what I tasted on my one trip to Greece. Every dish seemed to be prepared with care and authenticity. What truly makes Alekos stand out is the kindness and heart behind it. The family that owns the restaurant doesn’t just run a business — they give back by hiring people with disabilities and supporting community members who often face barriers to employment. Their commitment to inclusivity and opportunity adds a warmth and generosity to the place that you don’t see everywhere. The service was wonderful: attentive, friendly, and genuinely welcoming from the moment we sat down. The staff — including those given a chance because of the family’s inclusive hiring practices — made us feel valued all evening. After two decades of being a customer, and seeing the restaurant evolve, last night reaffirmed why Alekos is more than just a place to eat. It’s a place built on care — for the food, for the people, and for the community. If you want real Greek food served with genuine heart and hospitality, I can’t recommend Alekos enough!
Stopped by with my wife and met the manager Theodora and the owner Joanna . Beautiful place with some greek music playing softly in the background. We had the steak n cheese , the greek salad with gyro , greek fries and the best reuben around . We also had a couple bottles of some very smooth greek wine. PS, sorry for the pics with all the food gone, but we were starving, reuben was intact cause it came later. Way to go guys Bravo sas, good job Bogdad the cook.Stopped by for soft opening, drinks were great all our food was delicious. Our party had souvlaki, chicken and potatoes, lamb shanks, salad with souvlaki and fire feta. Get ready Middletown new sit down coming
Food was amazing. Being from Chicago with Greek town. This restaurant is close to home cooking in Chicago. Got an opportunity to meet Joanne. Shared stories and recommended a delicious wine Buketo. Beautiful day. Visiting family we will share a rave reviews with them. Staff was friendly and helpful. Thanks, Patti and Roger
Honest review here - TLDR; This is the best Gyro place you’ll find in the greater Frederick area and I’ve tried all of them…multiple times going as far down as Leesburg to Big Belly’s in Point of Rocks, which was severely overrated with cubed meat instead of real lamb/beef…like most Frederick spots. This place (Aleko’s Cafe) uses real gyro meat they slice off and is run by a very authentic and genuine guy that grew up in communist Romania. Solid human being and knows how to cook Romanian Shaorma so he probably adapted it to be authentic Greek for the Fredrick/USA crowd. Food review - look, Frederick gyro places ain’t NYC quality but this place is darn close. Their Tazatziki sauce is homemade and excellent. The lamb/beef gyro meat is authentic and sliced off in front of you, and the chicken Slouvaki is grilled and flavorful with minimal oil. The deserts and Baklava are as good as the stuff my Greek neighbor makes for me during their Apokries holiday. It’s a solid spot in Frederick if you’re looking for this kind of food. They brought the food out to us in the outdoor seating. The vibe - the place is run by a very friendly man who grew up in communist Romania. He has been through life and is a bit of humble renaissance man - humble, wise, and accepting of the many outcomes that life can deliver. We shared a good conversation during my lunch, which was unexpected. The guy is also just one of those people who is a genuine hospitality professional - he seems to really enjoy meeting and interacting with people on a personal level rather than simply viewing gyro making as a job. I’ve been around the block myself and did not get that sales-y type vibe or fake positivity from him or his staff, they’re just real, genuine people trying to enjoy their lives. When Amelia’s Cafe in Frederick closed, I began searching for the best gyro place when visiting my family from out of town. Aleko’s is my new spot now and I’m happy with it. If you’re in Fredrick, it’s worth the short drive to come here unless you want to settle for the garbage available in town (even that place in FSK mall with high ratings was disappointing with awful meat that was way too oily).
Awesome greek style take out! I was so excited to try it i forgot to take photos! Got the combo platter and everything was great. The meats were tasty and good quality. Cucumber dressing was really good. Baklava was really good. One of the best i ever had. To top it off their boardwalk fries are very good too! Combo Platter = 8/10 Baklava = 9.5/10 Boardwalk Dries = 9/10
Wow!! I was 5 mins away and because my dogs are traveling with me and it's 85-90+ degrees out... To save time, I called ahead. I stopped by Exxon and got some gas, and the food was ready seconds after I walked in! The young lady working there was very sweet and friendly, and the staff was great! This is my first time here, and didn't know what to expect. Because I am visiting in the area, I asked to stop by the restroom because picking up the food after I already paid, and the young lady took my food to the back counter and got it for me when I returned. I ate in my car and when I opened the container, I was Wowed! So much food. The I tasted the salad, gyro and then chicken. Yummm... The gyro is one of the best I had and didn't expect it from a gas station restaurant. The chicken has a nice herbal flavor, Italian like. I got the combination gyro platter "Gyro and Souvlaki meats tossed together, served on a bed of basmati rice with tomatoes, onions, feta and tzatziki sauce". I could use extra tzatziki sauce, but fortunately the gyro and Souvlaki meat have so much flavor that they are yummy alone. If I love 💕 n the area, I would come here at least once a week!! It's enough for 2 meals!!
Conflicted feelings… The meat was very good! But generally, the restaurant is a little overpriced. Many of the photos on here show a different outdoor experience that maybe is seasonal? But when I visited, there were two dining areas. I’m assuming one of them is more for takeout in the entryway? And then there’s a Dining in option. A little confusing. The biggest concern was that the drink portions versus the ice! A $12 nonalcoholic drink was served around an entire block of ice chunks. Maybe in the nonalcoholic drink should’ve been served in a water size glass. Again, the meat was very good. The rest of it was forgettable. It also looks like people have placed the price point between 10 and $20. There was two of us and the check was $70. So I don’t think that that is right. I would recommend the orange cake. But my partner said that it was very syrupy and too dense. I enjoyed it.
Aleko's- 3.5 Stars We had reservations and were seated right away. However, from the time we placed our order to when the food arrived, it was a lengthy 45 minutes. They were out of the draft beer we originally requested, so we chose another option. It wasn't bad, though I can't recall the name. We ordered standard American-Greek fare, Gyros and fresh cut French fries. The fresh fries are where I give them the extra .5. The meal was okay, but nothing special. We've honestly had better from food trucks. Dinner was served on cafeteria-style trays lined with wax paper. The gyros were wrapped in foil, and the fries were served directly on the paper. Diet Coke came in bottles with an ice-filled glass. If they want to make this an actual restaurant, this needs to be better. Actual plates and glass pitchers would make for a much better presentation. The wait staff was young and did their very best to accommodate us, which we appreciated. If the restaurant were closer to us, we might consider ordering takeout. Otherwise, we'll probably just wait for the Greek Church to host their gyro days.
I went here for carryout yesterday. The food was delicious. However, they get 3 stars from me for the price. I got a chicken souvlaki pita wrap and it was over $12. No sides included. If I had wanted fries and a drink (made it a "meal"), it would have been over $17. Sorry that's a little ridiculous. In addition, the pita wasn't that large. It filled me up for sure, but when I read reviews, people had said the portion sizes were large. Not for carryout apparently. Just wasn't impressed for what I got for the prize. Again, to be clear, it tasted amazing, but really expensive for just a pita wrap.
We got there Saturday around 6 and were seated right away and thankful because we did not make a reservation. We sat for a bit and talked and since it was very busy we expected a bit of a wait which was perfectly fine. The waiter came over and we placed an order for two appetizers and went ahead and put dinner in. The menu at the restaurant is about HALF the size of the online menu at THEIR website. No Moussaka, Italian subs and many many other dishes. There was no children's menu at the restaurant but the online had 6 great items including a mini Gyro. We asked for a kids menu and the waiter replied they didn't have one....no burgers, no mini Gyros just chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks. NOT kid friendly. One of my grand kids got the chicken Kabob plater which was dry hardly season chicken on 3 skewers on top of dry white rice ($17.95). My other grandson ended up getting soup and French fries. The drinks came out. 16 oz Diet Cokes at $3.75 each in a 16 oz bottle, but we were given glasses with ice. Here comes the food...all of it at the same time. They set it down and walked away without leaving us one piece of silverware or napkins. I raised my voice so the waiter could hear me and we tried several times to get his attention. We finally (after 5-10 minutes) walked up to the bar and told the woman there (owner???) and she brought them over. While she was there we discovered they forgot one Diet Coke and an order of fries. The spanakopita was about the size of a deck of cards and was burnt! Well we just went ahead and ate it anyway. No one ever checked on us and when dinner was done my grandson asked for cheesecake. We had seen a piece go by in a small plastic container but decided to try it anyway. They were out. Ok that happens...busy night. The bill: The cheese cake was still on it and the waiter said he removed it...It was not and was $11.95! The late diet Cole came from behind the bar so they charged us liquor tax! No one had liquor! He refunded that in cash. I must say the Gyros were good and we ordered the platters ($16.95) and the only other item that was there was an order of fries about the size of a small McDonalds. Final word: The worst part was the menu in the restaurant only has about half the items listed on their site. It felt like a bait and switch! So two kids and three adults and the bill was $165.57 including the tip that was added with the cheese cake still on the bill!!
