Castanea Sicilian Cafe

The coffee and the food is exceptionally great! It’s all real Italian ingredients and you really taste it. We had the focaccia and the croissant filled with pistachio crème. One of the best Italian food I ever had outside of Italy.

Me and my friend ordered a white chocolate latte and pistachio latte today. Both drinks were delicious and very creamy. The staff were also exceptional and offered us to try gelato while waiting for our drinks. Would definitely recommend here and would love to come back if we are in Los Angeles again.

This place is amazing! An authentic Italian Cafe. I discovered this place by chance. I was looking for Ben & Jerry's. I ended up here because I knew it used to be B&J. It turns out I was welcomed by Nando and Thean. I've gotta tell y'all, they are the best. What incredible service. Nando told me the whole story of his great-grandfather, showed me a photo of the house where he was born in Sicily. And the espresso I had? Delicious! Being from Brazil, I'm used to drinking a lot of coffee. As an espresso lover, I've already tasted the best coffees in the world. I can say that Cafe Castanea is excellent. Those who know us Brazilians know that our spirit is very friendly. The Italian style is very similar, so I felt at home. Hey Nando and Thean, I'm sending y'all all the love and success!! You guys are amazing, thanks for the experience!! I had the Vegan Cornetto (filled) with lots of vegan chocolate topping, a Vegan Fagottino with Chocolate Cream, and a ristretto, for sure. check out the pics...

I searched all over France for a pistachio croissant… little did i know i just had to go to Sicily - or walk right over the Castanea sicilian cafe! Everyone here was so nice. We just a salami sandwich, pistachio pastries, and pistachio lattes. They were SO GOOD!!!! And the shop is perfect, so cute. Definitely coming back here like all the time💚🫶🏼

The Italian pastries and coffee are both outstanding!!! The mini cannoli I had was so good it made me question my decision making when I ordered a mini rather than a full size. I may have to return tomorrow to have another so I can correct my mistake.

Ordered take-out through TooGoodToGo. I got two pistachio lattes and one cannoli. First time being here. Lattes were good and cannoli was yummy. They have Gelato as well.

I stopped in looking for a sweet treat and absolutely loved the chocolate pastry that I bought! Rose, the owner, was so lovely and welcoming! They recently opened and I will definitely be coming back. The pizza and sandwiches looked delicious and I can’t wait to try them. When stepped inside, I felt like I was in Italy!

Took the Espresso class and highly recommend it! It was very informative, fun, and engaging. Julian did a fantastic job, he answered all our questions and guided us through the entire process, from the history of coffee to hands-on espresso making and proper machine cleaning. Cute coffee shop with all the Italian goodies. Will definitely come back!

Perfect cozy place to stop for a drink and pastries, with great service. The only downside is the surrounding theater area, which can feel uncomfortable at times. (Homeless)

A really delicious Italian café right Venice Beach right across from the ocean. As someone whose family is southern Italian, I really appreciate these flavors and honestly thought they were fantastic. We were walking the beach and decided to stop in once we saw it on our walk. Inside is quite large and very bright, but this is more of about to go type of place versus a stop and sit. Service was really friendly and everything that we ordered was made very quickly. I decided to try a Bombolone because I have been a big fan since I was a little kid and thought it was terrific, which is basically an Italian donut. It was made fresh and had great flavors. I also tried one of their cold brews with cold foam on top and thought it was a bit bitter, but still good. I would definitely recommend this place and plan to stop in again because I live fairly close by.

Beautiful place, welcoming staff, music and theme made me feel like I was in Italy for a second! I ordered a pistachio gelato and I’m loss for words… the flavor just melted so beautifully in my mouth. I also ordered a cannoli, a classic Sicilian pastry! Delicious. 10/10.

This is a hidden gem at Venice Beach. They offer delicious and tasty Italian Street Food. It really tastes like you are eating in Italy. If you like this kind of food you have to eat there. If you haven't tried Italian food before, you must visit this place. We ate pinsa, gelato, Cannoli and tried the Italian Soda. It was amazing.

Castanea Sicilian Cafe instantly transported me to Italy with its cozy vibe and authentic flavors. The pistachio latte was rich, smooth, and comforting. Absolutely perfect for a cloudy seaside morning. The owner was very kind and welcoming, and you can really feel the passion behind everything they do. I love how they infuse a touch of Sicily into every detail. Definitely coming back for the gelato next time! Omg—and the ricotta cannoli is bomb!! Don’t leave without trying it!

This is one of the best places in the Santa Monica/Venice area to get authentic Italian desserts! The bombolone was wonderful and I kept coming back to get more. The staff is also very friendly and the inside has a nice ambience it is very cozy and relaxing. Seating inside is somewhat limited but they do have seating outside. The gelato is wonderful as well! 💛

I so wanted this place to be great...but I was unfortunately disappointed. The coffee was simply too weak, and bitter. At $5+ for a small coffee it was not cool. Great story, amazing location.

As an Italian food lover, I was excited to try this place given the great reviews. However, we left disappointed. Good: gentleman at the counter was nice and helpful. Ok: Cannolo and sfogliatella. Bad: Mortadella "focaccia". This sandwich was lacking in every sense. From the fact that it was premade in the kitchen to its size, to the three pieces of mortadella, to the fact that the focaccia was pretty much a cold and bland square panino bread instead of a real focaccia. For $17 we were expecting something way better. We left so disappointed that we decided to go to a different italian sandwich shop to be pleased with our breakfast.

Tell me why they're charging $2 PER each of these tiny cookies that could feed an Italian mouse (but not his family). The staff doesn't even clean the outside tables where you can't sit down bc they're covered in trash or spit. And they gave me a lukewarm ginger latte for $7. I understand cafes are charging more these days but $2 for those is a huge SCAM.
