Best breakfast on the east side hands down! So good. Carnitas omelette, house made hot sauce, a couple of tamarindo margaritas, steak and flan. Simply put, you can't go wrong! Self serve Nossa family coffee is amazing. For authentic Mexican flavors go here! You wont be disappointed, I promise!! 👍🏼👍🏼
My husband and I eat brunch here at least once a month. The food is to die for, service is always super friendly and the coffee is great. The volume of the room can be pretty overwhelming if you're sound sensitive because of the high concrete ceilings, but that won't stop me from coming back for the elote hash!
It may not seem like it on the outside, but inside it's a fantastic Mexican/Hispanic restaurant. Had the bacon breakfast wet burrito and it was superb. The bacon wasn't so crispy it turned to dust, and it wasn't too chewy that it stretched. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned to break away at every bite.
Thanks to Melinda and everyone at Bar Carlo for hosting our Galentine's Brunch! They were so accommodating to our large group and made it a really magical time! The food and drinks were amazing! Can't wait to come back!
Our group of 4 ate at Bar Carlo on Saturday. The place has a cool with a laid back community vibe. The food was delicious on ALL accounts. We had the chilaquiles and the eggs Benedict which were full of flavor, fresh, not greases and the eggs were perfection. The red salsa is a must. We did not have the salsa verde. I suspect it is great too. I have not had a go to breakfast on lunch place for some time with the shifting landscape of the food seen. The Bar Carlo menu is substantially. I look forward to working my way through it. After brunch we ordered drinks, hung out in their lounge and enjoyed ourselves. Drinks were spot on. Creative, interesting and balance. Everyone was friendly and touch point of the staff were just right. Highly recommend Bar Carlo. Enjoy.
So grateful for the team at Bar Carlo for hosing our holiday event so seamlessly. Taking the time to do a run of the program before the event and having a full team there to take care of our after hours event. The food was great but our favorite part was the space. Our group of 50 fit perfectly for an informal networking event. On a side note, your brunch is FIRE!
Very tasty food, but it help if you know where you're going. The food is not straight up Mexican, but a fusion of San Diego / Mexico flavors. American sized portions, but not over indulgent, and flavors of Mexico that are approachable for all tastes. The Bloody Mary had a nice kick with fun garnishes. The environment is bright and airy with the half the space wrapped in street facing old fashioned grid windows. If breakfast a at a table is not your thing, there's a nice bar to sit at.
Bar Carlo is phenomenal. They accommodated our large group of 14 and the service was amazing. The food was really divine. The Monte Carlo, the Benedict, the Elote Hash, the French toast and all the food was all delicious and beautifully done. The ambiance is so cozy. The lighting is lovely and it feels like a very comfortable space. Prices are good and reasonable. I wish I could eat there everyday.
I wholeheartedly recommend Bar Carlo to anyone who likes great food served by friendly people in a restaurant with a strong community vibe. If you are Vegan or GF you will find something tasty and creative and you can customize your order if you need to. The Eggs Benedict, served on Saturday and Sunday IS to die for. Bar Carlo makes it clear that Ice isn't welcome without a judicial warrant. They have a program where you can help people who have lost snap benefits. In short, the owner Mel cares about PDX and it show in her food and support for the community. Its an honor to have Bar Carlo in my neighborhood. Thanks for standing up for PDX. Mark
Finally got to come in and eat today and WOW!!! Zero complaints here! Coffee tasted fresh, carne asada was juicy and delicious. We got french toast and elote hash. Perfect amount of food for two, and inexpensive as well. Beautifully decorated with a bright but not busy ambiance, and plants all around. Will definitely be back to try a cocktail here on a non work day :)
Bar Carlo has us going out for brunch again! We had stopped going to brunch for many years because well, we can make some bomb breakfast at home. BUT! My friend recently brought me again after a decade and I was reminded how amazingly delicious it is! Now my wife and I go whenever we want to treat ourselves to a cute brunch date. We always go weekdays and it’s pretty chill. Love the vibe. Had such great service the other day and I asked his name to tell the management I appreciated it. It was Carlo himself! Love a family run and woman owned business. They also have fun events all the time. We’ve had the chilaquiles, breakfast burrito, carnitas omelet. Their green salsa is so good! It’s makes your mouth perk a bit with a tang and really adds such a fun flare to their meals!! Photo for vibes :)
I think we found our new favorite SE Portland brunch spot. I liked the self serve Italian roasted coffee area while you wait for your table. The entire menu looked delicious but my stomach is only so big! The pineapple flan was a nice surprise as I've never had that before. Treat yourself to brunch and a cocktail and have a great time.
Let's talk about what matters in a restaurant experience. Quality? Top notch, each plate was devoured by my group. Service? In today's day and age, especially around PDX, service typically lacks... But not here. We felt like we were being personally taken care of and it felt authentic instead of fake. Atmosphere/Vibe? Great people, great conversation and a warm welcoming smile as well. Highly recommend.
I recently celebrated my 30th birthday, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience! The private event space was absolutely perfect for the occasion. The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, making it an ideal setting for my celebration. A special shoutout to Aaron, who did an outstanding job coordinating the event. From the initial planning stages to the day of the party, he was attentive and ensured everything ran smoothly. His presence on the day of the event made a huge difference, as he was there to address any needs and keep everything on track. The staff was also fantastic, providing top-notch service and ensuring all my guests were well taken care of. I highly recommend this venue for anyone looking to host a private event. Thank you for making my 30th birthday unforgettable!
Bar Carlo turns what could be an ordinary breakfast into an amazing meal. Eggs perfectly cooked, great rice and the most amazing black beans ever! I cook and eat a lot of black beans and this place has The Best! Corn tortillas and pickled veges were an added delight. A perfect place to spend a sunny Spring day. Thank you!
We absolutely loved having our 55-person wedding at Bar Carlo. The owner Mel is at the same time very supportive and very low-key, which made for a smooth planning process and day-of event. The space is gorgeous, and has multiple connected wings, which allowed for the the party to morph seamlessly over the night from barside cocktail hour to outdoor patio ceremony to dinner buffet to dance floor. The space is already a beautifully decorated artwork, and Mel lets you decide how to arrange the space for your event, but you can also bring your own decorations/sound system/llama and she can handle those additions easily. 🙂 The food and drinks were delicious too, and Mel was able to accommodate our entirely vegan and gluten-free menu without hesitation. Overall we loved the unique-ness, flexibility and good vibes of the space and the people of Bar Carlo, and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a cute and fun space for their wedding or other event. -Nicola & Lou
I only have had breakfast/brunch here. Bar Carlo is big, open, bright and beautiful to hang out in, good for meeting up with a medium-sized group. Parking is decent, on-street. When I've been there, there was only one server but she was awesome, friendly and attentive. The menu has lots of interesting Mexican-style brunch options but you can also get basic American eggs/pancakes-type stuff. Everything is hot, high-quality and very well-prepared in general. Your plate comes out looking very appetizing and the portions are perfect for me (medium/large appetite). One interesting thing is the menu is low-key very veg/vegan/gf friendly. They have some meat stuff that looked great but the menu is not meat-centric. Most dishes are default without meat and you can add it if you want. I have no eating restrictions (I eat anything) but it just so happened that what I ordered was meatless and gluten free and was still amazing. I didn't get any alcohol when I was there, but the coffee was excellent and bottomless (self-serve). Also, if you are a fan of interesting hot sauce, make sure and ask for some of the house-made hot sauce on the side of whatever you get. It is INCREDIBLE and unique and goes great on potatoes or tortillas or whatever. Finally a shout-out to their rice (which seemed exceptional) and, weirdly, the eggs. I order eggs over hard, which many kitchens seem to not understand but this kitchen does them perfect!
Love this place! Everything is good! Every time we go, I try something different and always leave with a happy belly. The vibe is chill. The people are chill. And just because bar is in the name doesn't mean you have to order alcohol, it's for foodies!! (*the watermelon margarita is delicious though♡) Yes, get the papas, I'm obsessed. Thank you Bar Carlo for always serving up delicious!!♡♡ Brunch, Brunch, Brunch!!!
What an amazing experience! The staff were very friendly and hospitable. Melinda, the owner, is so sweet and takes the time to serve tables and to get to know her diners. The food was fabulous. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I had the eggs benedict, coffee, a cookie, and mimosas. Everything was so perfect I ended up staying hours!
I wanted to love this place, but the food was just average. The positives first: great staff and nice atmosphere. The downsides: the two-egg breakfast with vegan sausage and potatoes was monumentally bland—there didn’t seem to be any seasonings involved at all. That said, the person I was dining with had the Mexican eggs, which he said were quite tasty, but the corn tortillas were very small and he was still hungry afterwards.
We've wanted to try Bar Carlo for a while and decided to get takeout brunch today. For $16 the portion size of the Chilaquiles Verde is ridiculously small. Would have been $21 with added meat. I've never received anything other than an appetizer or side in this size of takeout container. I'm unsure if portions are different when dining in? The flavors are good, but the price is just not justifiable for what it is.
