I had a gift card from a friend so decided to try lunch at the Hunt Room. The Cavalier Hotel is spectacular and the Hunt Room does not disappoint! Prices are very reasonable. We tried the honey glazed Brussels sprouts as an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked, light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. For lunch we ordered the French Dip sandwich and the Hunt Room Burger. Both with truffle parmesan fries. My husband said that it was the best burger he had ever eaten, which is a pretty bold statement. The French dip was huge, I was only able to eat half of it, but it was perfectly cooked and very flavorful. To drink I ordered a creamy Espresso Martini and it was delicious and ice cold, just how I like it. My husband ordered the Smoked Old Fashioned, their staple drink. Very happy with the service (our server Angelina was the best!), the portions large sizes, and the affordable price. Their giant wooden fireplace was phenomenal, we wish we could have stayed to lounge by it but it looked to be the most popular place to be that morning! I will definitely be coming back...
First, we came on a very busy night. It was hoppin in there but we found a seat at one of the couches. Angelina was our server and she was so attentive. We ordered drinks and food. Let me tell you - the bartender knew EXACTLY what he was doing. We ordered The fried shrimp, oysters Rockefeller, Reuben spring rolls and a house salad. All were good but my favorite was the oysters rock. There was a band playing “The Brent Shepherd and Mike Doyle Duo”, they were excellent. My only wish is that the restaurant turned off the overhead house music so we could hear the band better but I’m not sure how that worked. 10/10 service and food. Atmosphere was great and there is a good mix of ages in there. Also, I need to mention the doorman. He was exactly the definition of top tier service
1/10/26 - I went to Becca for brunch for my birthday, and we decided to check this place while at the hotel. I am so happy we did. Staff was super nice. Since we didn't have a reservation, we could have placed our name to get a table or sit at the couches that were first come first serve. We decided to sit on the couch in front of the fireplace. It was very nice and love the atmosphere of the place. Our server, Debbie, was so amazing. She really made the experience great. She recommended drinks, gave us little history, and some other information in regard to the distillery. We tried 3 different drinks. I really loved the Cavalier soda, it's basically like a mojito, but it's so refreshing. We also got to try the nightcap in Naples, it had a great aftertaste of coffee. We had the huntsman as well, it was pretty good as well but mostly tasted of bourbon (at least to me). We got the apple bourbon cheesecake, and it was soo good. They even wrote happy birthday on it. Everything was great though and the drinks prices are decent. We did not get a chance to try food, but I would really love to come back again. I highly recommend their server Debbie as well.
This is a great restaurant on the lower level of the Cavalier, with a very different feel than the Raleigh Room or Becca upstairs. It's styled as an old hunting lodge feel, with a few big oversized sofas and chairs around a huge fireplace, a bar, and then a traditional dining area. We were in on a Saturday afternoon and while it wasn't packed, they seemed to have only 2 servers working, which left them working really hard, but getting service/ drinks a little slow. They have a large cocktail menu, but our favorites are just getting the Coastal Canned Cocktails which are made in their distillery. They also serve their other in house spirits under the Tarnished Truth brand name. Our kids got a couple items of the childrens menu and they were large portions and well liked, and we tried the poutine and it was delicious. If you stay at the sister properties on the oceanfront they will shuttle you back and forth to the Cavalier so you can enjoy their restaurants.
We celebrated our anniversary here, and it could not have been a better choice. The place was busier than the last time we visited, but the food was just as incredible, and the atmosphere made the night so special. Having a live performer singing added such a nice touch—it really made the evening feel even more enjoyable. The customer service is top-notch, and the menu is loaded with great options. Don’t miss the toasted Brussels sprouts, the venison (a must-try!), and their cheesecake-you simply can’t leave without ordering it. A special shout-out to our server, who went above and beyond by making me a mojito even though it wasn’t on the menu. That extra effort really stood out. This spot is one you cannot miss!
Their service is what's expected on the Cavalier property. Exceptional. Our food was also delicious. We changed our reservation last minute and it was for the good. The salmon was cooked to perfection!
Just a unique and awesome restaurant. The atmosphere is great, all dining on one end with the bar on the other. Everything we ate was delicious! Specific call out for the Reuben spring rolls and the gold rush cocktail. You have to do valet parking for the hotel itself to go here and would recommend a reservation as the right way to go. Also, to get to the hunt room, you walk in and take the stairs immediately to the right down and turn right.
The Hunt Room was an overall amazing experience everything was great from the ambiance to the food and drinks. We had a very nice server who made the daily catch sound absolutely mouthwatering. The smoked old fashioned was a crowd favorite even for members of the group who don’t usually like old fashioneds. The food was all spectacular! I had the lobster Mac and cheese and it was definitely the best meal that I had on my trip to Virginia Beach. The peas and tomato’s added a very nice freshness to the rich Mac and cheese and it had a lot of lobster in it, I would definitely recommend. Along with all the other food we ordered like the Naked Quail, Grilled Pork Ribeye, and the Roast Duck.
Service was great and so was the food. We had the shrimp, crab cake, reuben egg roll appetizers. Along with the fish and chips. The fish was pretty bland, but the tartar sauce made up for it. We also got the pineapple upside down cake and the bourbon balls. The bourbon balls were amazing. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious overall. We started with the shrimp, crab cake, and Reuben egg roll appetizers, which were all flavorful and well-prepared. For our main course, we had the fish and chips. While the fish itself was a bit bland, the tartar sauce was a perfect complement and really brought the dish to life. For dessert, we tried the pineapple upside-down cake and the bourbon balls. The bourbon balls were absolutely amazing – definitely a standout treat! We’ll certainly be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend!
Last week, we had dinner at the Hunt Room located on the lower level of the Cavalier Hotel. Very interesting feel that while I enjoyed, my wife did not. It's basically an upscale pub feel as you can see from the pics. All tastefully appointed and clean. The feed was great, however, we made the mistake of having a late lunch and could not fully appreciate the food nor finish our meals. Also, we ordered the Brussel Sprout appetizer and it was so good, but filled us up. I had the Fried Shrimp, which was supposed to have 8 but only 7 were on the plate, which was OK as I said, I was struggling to finish. They were very BIG and fried perfectly. The fries were plentiful and tasty. My wife had the Lobster Mac and Cheese which had generous amounts of lobster and the very cheesy and thick. Both were very good dinners and had fair prices. I did note that when the waiter took our order, and I did not order a cocktail at that time, I did notice a look on his face (maybe it was me?) as he probably figured a smaller non-alcohol bill means a smaller tip. Meanwhile, I was just undecided as their drink menu is not only extensive but very interesting. I ordered a Smoked Old Fashion after he brought out my wife's drink and my seltzer. His mannerisms changed after I ordered my cocktail. lol. Other than that, he was great. Bottom line, is that if you have a good hearty appetite and enjoy a good cocktail, this is definitely the place to come for dinner. Enjoy!
My family and I really enjoyed everything. From the holiday decorations on the hotel, the attentiveness of valet and doorman. Once you entered Hunt Room, we greeted with a smile and promptly seated. Our waitress was pleasant, gave food suggestions, and checked on us adequately. I enjoyed my smoked old-fashioned drink. The blackened sea bass was delicious. The vegetables and rice were just ok. The bourbon ball tasted like a walnut brownie and was tasty.
The Hunt Room is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. It’s not fancy — it’s just dang good. I had some of the best mac and cheese of my life here. At my request, they put the lobster from the mac in a side dish because I don’t like lobster (I grew up in a landlocked state), but my partner does and he wanted to eat it. He said it’s the best lobster he’s had in his entire life. He also says this place has the best old fashioned he’s had in his entire life and I’m inclined to agree. He relays to me that his duck was outstanding. Miranda was our server and she is a DELIGHT. We were very well taken care of the entire night and she didn’t even blink at my weird “hey can we get the lobster in a side dish” request. We’ll ask to be seated with her when we come back. You can bet your boots that we’ll be back. You should go eat here if you haven’t before, I promise.
Beautiful bar/restaurant in the Cavalier Hotel. Delicious, quality food options. Some spirits🥃made on site. Lovely location at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.
This has become one of our favorite places, and a must stop every time we come to VA Beach for vacation. Unlike a lot of the restaurants in the area, it consistently impresses us each visit. The food is fantastic, and so are the cocktails. The service is also top notch. Our most recent experience was even more phenomenal. Our server Casey S. was so wonderful, and had fantastic menu suggestions. It's a pricey place, but worth it for the quality and experience.
Been to this place a few times now and always want to come back to try a new drink or an entree! I feel like everything on the menu is tasty, so you can’t go wrong with any of the options, but I also like how they have their menu represent their theme - duck, quail, hen, you name it, and lots of bourbon! 🥃 Our server - Angelica - was super nice and professional! 🖤 I do recommend getting a reservation - we had one, valet parking as usual by the Cavalier guys, you can pay and tip with card!
Absolutely one of the best meals I've ever had! It started off a little sus, we ordered the Truffle fries poutine, they came out quite burnt. We asked our waitress about it, and she said that they might have left them in too long to melt the cheese, but ran a new batch for, which came out just perfect. We then got the venison steak, and that was amazing! It was cooked to perfection! It was probably one of the best steaks venison or other than I've ever had. The place almost has an English pub feel to it. There is a hugh fireplace in the center, but unfortunately, they were out of wood, so it wasn't roaring like I've heard it could be. The staff is top-notch. Our waitress was awesome, and then we sat at the bar, and the bartender had us rolling. They were a good working crew and lots of character. Spent a good amount of time educating my wife of tequilas and bitters. Gets busy, so recommend a reservation. We'll be worth splurging on yourself and trying The Hunt Room experience
Food and atmosphere were all amazing!! Celebrating with a work winners circle dinner! The apple bourbon cheesecake is my new favorite!!
If you have been sitting in your duck blind or tree stand waiting to pull the trigger on this restaurant, just send it! The vallet was a nice touch. It was efficient in getting guests dropped off and moving cars out of the entrance. Make sure to have a reservation, as the restaurant fills up quick. Both from guests who are looking to dine in and the overflow from Tarnished Truth Distillery. The artisan cocktails were exquisite. From the 'Old Fashioned' to the 'Manhattan' and then onto the dessert cocktail 'The White Lie'...all an excursion on their own. I had set the bar high for the food from all the previous reviews on here. And for the food to exceed my expectations in appearance and taste, my only complaint was my stomach wasn't big enough to finish it all. You have not lived until you have encompassed your meal with the 'Apple Bourbon Cream Cheesecake'. *see attached* Lastly, the service. Viliana was attentive, informative and polite. She was able to recommend drinks and answer any questions we had regarding our meal. Her service was top notch and on par for the resort.
Nice and fancy Cavalier Hotel bar restaurant. Originally built about 90 years ago. The Hunt Room is located on the bottom floor in an old hunting club room that is now completely renovated. The atmosphere is cozy and rustic surrounded by many examples of the animals that were hunted. The service was good and the server was attentive, informative, and very pleasant. Our selections were the crab cake entree and a custom mushroom risotto topped with short rib. Some live music is a nice plus, as is a smoked bourbon or another drink is always goes well together! The crab cake had too much filler so a slight disappointment there. The risotto and short rib combo was delish. It was creamy and tender with great flavor...actually it should become a regular on their menu imo...lol
The food, service and atmosphere were excellent. The pork loin ribeye was delicious, the whole truth whisky taster selection was great, and the upside down cake with mango sorbet was amazing. The waitress was attentive and knew her stuff. They had a DJ who was playing decent tunes. All in all, a 5 out of 5 from me. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We always have a lovely time at the Hunt Room! So far we’ve done dinner, lunch, and also drinks - and everything has been delicious. It can be a little pricey, and it’s a bit of a drive for us, but worth the trip if you want to splurge a little (or if you’re just bougie lol). I definitely recommend making reservations in advance, or preparing to sit at the bar. There is valet parking as well.
They have valet parking up front. It was fairly busy here on a Saturday evening. We had a party of 13 people and were in a private room. Maddie [hopefully the correct spelling] was phenomenal in helping with our drinks and orders. We orders the Honey Stung brussel sprouts, Oyster Rockefeller and crispy fried Virginia oysters. Some of our party ordered other things but overall the appetizer were delicious. For dinner, I got to try the Pan Roasted Venison Loin and had a taste of some other dishes including the Citrus Brined Cornish Game Hen, The Naked Quail, Grilled Pork Ribeye and the Roast Duck. All of it was great and I wish I had focused more on eating than chatting to really provide more details. I was surprised with an engagement here and they were so sweet to bring us champagne. I would definitely come back to leave a more detailed review when I'm less distracted!
We came to the Hunt room on a recommendation from a few friends. Our server was Viliana and she was very good! She kept our drinks full and checked on us regularly. The Brussels sprouts were amazing. The oyster stew was just okay (I’ve never had it before). But we both really liked the short rib French dip and burger! Our only critique is that it was veryyy loud. But we would return and were happy overall!
Absolutely delicious food and cocktais, with a fun vibe and views of the distillery. I highly recommend the pan roasted venison, with any of their cocktails, Old Cavalier Whiskey, or really any of their whiskeys.
We decided to have a business dinner here while in the complex for a conference. Service was excellent, very attentive and friendly! They venue is nice, it’s got a cellar/basement style, which is fitting considering the location of it. Menu is typical pub fare and the kitchen’s execution of the menu was great. They have a nice wine list, as well as cocktails. Overall, we enjoyed the visit and I can see setting up a dinner meeting again in the future.
Moody, manly, yummy restaurant in the gorgeous Cavalier. Skip the apps and go straight for the entrees drinks especially the smoked old fashioned. Our server Angelina was so kind and recommended the risotto and made sure the kitchen got my allergy substitutions correct! Will definitely come back!
In town visiting for work and was happily recommended this spot. The exterior of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous and once you get to the restaurant it as equally well crafted. Very old English pub hunting lodge feel with some modern upgrades and flare. The in house selection of spirits were all great. I got a bourbon flight and was pleasantly surprised with most options only pining for more when it came down to the vodka which was fairly basic. When it comes to food I was welcomed with a plethora of options both for those seeking a high dollar main plate or just a simple snack while there for a drinks with friends. Group favorites include the lobster Mac and cheese, the fish & chips, and the filet. All in all very satisfied with ambiance and friendly staff. You will spend money here but the drinks are on point! Cheers!!
Me and my wife went here. Food was amazing and our waitress was fantastic. I had the Pan Roasted Venison Loin and my wife had the crab cakes. The crab cakes were cooked perfectly, not over or under done. The venison was very tender. My only issue is the lighting was very dim. We had to use flashlights on our phone to see the menu. It’s soothing amirbiance but just a bit too dark.
The food as usual was amazing! Service was awesome. Can't beat the atmosphere and drinks. If you are new to the area this must be your first stop!
Excellent meal. The food choices are all top notch. Our party all had great meal, except for the guy who ordered the hamburger. That came out late and was a bit soggy. Pork chop, chicken lollipop, duck fat fried poutine. Worth the wait, but you should make a reservation.
We went to the Hunt room for dinner. Love food, everything we tried like salads and entrees were great. Our waitress Maddi were really nice, efficient, attentive. Atmosphere also great, cosy, ttok few pictures wirh bears. Prices reasonable for suc a classy restaurant in one of the best hotels in town. We will be back.
The Hunt Room's atmosphere is inviting and cozy! It's a place where you can enjoy a cocktail, a meal and relax. The smell of the wood burning fireplace and the heat it produced was the big highlight for me. Definitely try theTarnished Truth Coastal Cocktail Blackberry Bramble. Pictured are the pickled beet salad, crispy fried Virginia oysters and naked quail. The dishes my husband and I had were more than plenty to share.
Stopped to try the Tarnished Truth Bourbon. We didn’t have a reservation but they were able to seat us right away. Restaurant was very stylish and clean. We ordered oyster rock and Brussel sprouts. The Brussel sprouts were great! The oysters were really cheesy. I wasn’t a fan but I wasn’t expecting it to be that cheesy. He ordered a flight and the favorite was the Bottle In Bond! We will definitely be back and we will have to try the dinner.
My wife and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary here and the food, service, and ambiance were just excellent! Maddi our server was absolutely on point throughout our visit and made it seemless and the occasion that much more special. The atmosphere has the feel of a rustic hunting lodge with upscale dining and delicious menu choices. Will definitely be returning here as soon as we can!
Celebrated my SO graduating, Billy was amazing and patient with us as we were living in the moment. The pork ribeye, Ruben sling rolls and shrimp are amazing !! If you go ask for Billy !
The Hunt Room is a fantastic destination for both food and drinks. The food is consistently excellent, and the bar menu is creative, well-curated, and always worth exploring. One of the standout features of the space is the incredible fireplace hearth, which creates a warm, intimate atmosphere that makes the room feel both inviting and distinctive. What truly sets The Hunt Room apart, though, are the bartenders — James, TC, and Dylan are easily some of the coolest bartenders in Virginia Beach. Their knowledge, skill, and hospitality elevate every visit, whether you’re there for a crafted cocktail or a relaxed evening by the fire.
The Hunt Room at the Cavalier is my favorite romantic winter spot on the beach. Tucked under the main floor of the historic hotel is a room full of warm rich furniture centered around a large fireplace. It echos it's past as a hunting lodge getaway with taxidermy and hunting rifles on display. Ajoining the resturant is a wiskey distillery that fits in with smokey old world vibe. The food has its roots in Virginia coastal tradition. The best cup of Brunswick Stew I've had along with tradional selections of game meat. Pan roasted venison served rare is one of my favorite. The duck is great and the seafood hasn't disappointed me yet. My birthday dinner was made special by our server Debbie. We started our evening with drinks and Oysters Rockefeller in front of the fireplace before moving to a table for our main meal.
This is our third time dining at the Hunt Room and each visit has been wonderful. We love coming here for a special occasion because the atmosphere is great, the food is delicious and the drinks are outstanding. Our server, Billy, was so knowledgeable and accommodating with my allergy requests and also very attentive and friendly. When you come, be sure to try the duck and the venison. Those are our two favorite mains. We also really love the brussels sprouts for a starter. We've always had a great time here and can’t wait to come back!
Really great restaurant! Definitely a must-go for ambiance, food, drinks. Service was good enough, it was very busy and lots of holiday events so we tried not to be too critical. Drink service more frequently would have been great. We will definitely be back! Highly recommend.
Visited the Caviler for their bourbon tasting at Tarnished Truth, and decided to dine there as it was convenient. This was a great decision as the food and service were great. I was debating between the burger and the short rib sandwich, and I ended up getting the short rib. Our waiter, Decklin, was awesome and I appreciate his friendliness. Anddddd the apple cheesecake was lovely!
Are you enjoying your cocktail at the Hunt Room in VA Beach? That’s probably because Angelina is tending to the fire, cleaning the spills, and tending to the customers. On top of a bustling room full of customers, I was impressed by her professionalism and speed. Overall a great experience. Recommend the Rye of the Tiger!
The Hunt Room at Cavalier is a charming spot with an amazing atmosphere, perfect for a special occasion. We visited to celebrate our anniversary, and the cozy ambiance, complete with a real fireplace, gave the space a warm and inviting feel. The food and drinks were fantastic, and the setting made it memorable. However, be prepared to arrive much earlier than your reservation time. The valet service took forever, and after a 15-minute delay, they gave our table away. While the staff did eventually find us another table, the host gave us a lecture about being late, which felt unnecessary. Overall, it’s a lovely place with great potential, but the experience could be improved.
Smoked lollipop chicken was embarrassingly small portion but tasted good, my venison was delicious and so was the soup of the day (black eye pea). They messed up my wife's filet , she ordered well done and it came out bloody! They fixed it but the meat juice was all over the plate. S'more brownie was good. Service was a little slack. MAINLY it was so loud in the restaurant we couldn't talk to each other.
I had the hunt room burger; I did not enjoy it. Burger was bland. It should be salted at least. Pepper is also good. Buns were soggy. The fries on the other hand was very salty, over spiced, soggy, and most inch short like scraped from the bottom. Same fries came with the fish and chips, but at least, I enjoyed the fish. My kid had the veggie fried rice, and gave her leftovers to me. Fried rice was wet and the rice were not cooked properly. It needs to be steamed a bit more. I still gave them 3 stars because of the service; Billy did a great job. The night was not ruined because of his great customer service. Thanks, Billy. I’ll be back because of the service and the place.
I actually had high hopes for this place. I absolutely love going to restaurants and seeing what their cocktail scene is like and I’ve some thoughts. What I will say is their menu is innovative, and I appreciate the illustrations and creative craft cocktails. Unfortunately that’s kind of where it stops. Execution was sub par and the flavors were unbalanced, that and the old limes used as a garnish was quite off putting. They were covered in brown spots and the garnish tray was fully exposed at the end of the bar so fruit flies gathered. The food was fine. Kind of a southern ish cuisine and the flavors were okay. Unfortunately the food lacked creativity and was awfully similar to your typical Applebees or other franchise restaurant. Did enjoy the Brussels. We had the special steak with crab cakes. I also was disappointed in how bland the crab cake was considering we are literally a block from the beach… I’m concerned it may be frozen which was even more disappointing considering the cost of the meal itself. Anyways, I’ll be back to try again and I hope to see some improvements. The atmosphere was my favorite part of the meal, as it felt like a timepiece tavern. The Television felt extremely out of place, and it took me out of the vibe entirely. It gives off sports bar vibes and truly should be reconsidered. Being in the basement of the Cavalier I imagined a large painting of the fireplace instead of a LED screen playing the football game. Would have provided more pictures but I was on my honeymoon and didn’t want to be on my phone
The service was great, however the food was very disappointing. There was lots of food left over. Most dishes were very poorly (not at all) seasoned and some dishes were sent back for tasting less than fresh (oysters). Additionally, the booth we were initially sat at had a long trail of ants marching down the wall. So we had to move ourselves to a table instead. Honestly, that should've been when we left, but we still wanted to give this place a shot due to such high reviews.
Such s great place to visit just dont eat there. Food was bad. Great atmosphere. Beautiful hotel. Great holiday spirit. But the food...no thanks. Just do drinks. Oyster rock were horrible. Came out cold. Gross. Sent back, shrimp was ok, beer pretzel was disgusting. Steak was raw, salmon was raw. Fish and chips greasy.
So I came here to celebrate my boyfriend’s 36th birthday. The lobby part was pretty crowded but we ended up paying for a private room. The food was very disappointing for it to be a high end restaurant. I was also told when booking that I would be able to watch tv or play music in my room. The music was so low it might as well not been on. Then once checking out I had multiple cash and two cards my bill was almost $500. I explained to the servicer ANGELICA of how I wanted it done and she still did it incorrectly. So when the manager came back in my sister jokingly asked him did my card decline and he stated yes with a room full of people which I thought was very UNPROFESSIONAL. HE then proceeded to walk over to me to explain that she ran the card wrong and even though she cancelled it out ita still pending on there end so its still a balance of $100 and that I would need to wait 7-10 before my $100.00 will return on my card. I was LIVID, EMBARRASSED and over this place. After all of that my boyfriend was supposed to get a free dessert for his birthday and DIDN’T because they were too busy and forget. I mentioned it to the manager in the hallway and he offered to see if I wanted it to go. I declined because I was ready to go.I will NEVER return back to this place because of the first experience I had here.
Ugh so sad about our experience here.. it’s marketed as a high class little gem but it’s more like a scruffy bar with flavorless overpriced food. Being in such a beautiful hotel such as The Caviler, is why people continue to come back it seems. Overrated and my husband and I left unimpressed with the food and atmosphere, as well as the service. We rated it a 6/10, being generous. Drink menu is average, no holiday drinks or anything special. Pretty basic drinks. We got oyster rockefeller, and we could hardly finish just six oysters and they were hardly enjoyable. Chewy, and no flavor. Not a seafood place, I know now. Asked for salt and pepper, the salt must’ve been wet, we had to open up the container and it was all clumpy. For our main course we got the Quail, which was overpowered by entirely too much BBQ sauce, cornbread stuffing tasted almost like nothing. The family recipe of rum balls were the best thing we had all night.. We left really disappointed and will not be returning, sadly. Really sad about this because The Caviler is such a beautiful spot.
Made reservations for my wife to have a nice dinner away from the kids for her birthday. She left cash to pay for her meal and left the restaurant. She received a very nasty call from the restaurant's management saying she needed to come back and pay her tab. She explained to them she had left it on the the table, and they insisted she needed to come back to look for the money. When she got back to the table the waitress stopped by and said another server took it. My wife never received an apology from the restaurant staff for accusing her of theft. It was very clear the restaurant (and the Cavalier hotel as well) thought my wife was beneath serving or worth common courtesy.
