17th December 2025 Wandering Wednesday took Hubby and I not too far away, to The Rams Head in Grappenhall, Warrington. This picturesque little, tiny cobblestone village is so beautiful, especially when it’s been snowing, picture postcard and I’m sure filming has been done there in the past, only a couple of pubs, couple of houses and a beautiful church. The menu has plenty to offer but with it being near to Christmas, we both decided to go with something lighter as Christmas is full of rich heavy foods…. So on that note we both had the same: Ole faithful…. Fish and chips, accompanied with minted mushy peas, curry sauce and creamy tartar sauce, we both ordered a couple of slices of bread and butter. Our servers were very professional, polite and attentive, I only got the name of one of the ladies, Lauren…. Who is a totally credit to this establishment, thank you for today Lauren. Food was piping hot and tastsy.

A great welcome from Jason here at The Rams Head, I came on Monday... To inspect the for fighting equipment This is the first time I've been here, this is an idyllic and really beautiful pub with some great looking food coming from the kitchen. Jason was a great host as I completed my work. Photos show this place is very clean and comfortable with many tables.. outside patio and booths for those warmer days... It's a perfect secluded retreat. Thank you to Jason and the team for looking after me... 👍🙂

Thoroughly enjoyable evening with my wife in couple time. Relaxed atmosphere and great service from Kasia. A nice way to wind down with no cooking on a work night!

I had a fantastic time at this cozy pub! The atmosphere was warm and inviting, perfect for a relaxing evening. The food was excellent—well-prepared and delicious, with plenty of variety. Whether you're looking for a casual drink or a hearty meal, this place has it all. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for great food and a friendly, laid-back vibe

Nicely done up pub retaining some of its old charm. Sort of place you’d come for a family meal maybe or a couple of pints. Very nice vibe outside i huge front on the cobbles. A few real ales on. Large outside seating area. Quite a smart pub.

The food was delicious, we had the ploughmans with sides but could do with a bit more bread, a large pickled onion and another chutney. The roast dinner that went to the next table looked divine aswell.

The Rams Head is our go-to local pub, and for good reason! The drinks are always top-notch, the service is friendly and attentive, and the food is delicious. One of the highlights is Thursday quiz evenings - it's a great night out with friends and family. They also offer fantastic holiday menus that really get into the spirit of the season. We can't fault The Rams Head at all - it's the perfect local pub. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff always make us feel at home. If you're looking for a great pub with excellent food, drinks, and service, look no further than The Rams Head. We love it and can't recommend it enough!

My local pub, was once a place that was fairly dead but since the new management came in, Jason and Jev, they have completely transformed the pub and it’s so so good, and has become and hive of the community full of great vibes! Along with this the new menu is fantastic! Blankets also avaliable. as we go into these chilly winter months!!

Adam is amazing behind the bar, but they’re all the most attentive friendly bar staff of all time, really can’t fault the Rams Head and the new owners Jason and Jevv, you’re always welcomed with a great pint and fab food!

Had the Sunday roast today. 3 x lamb and 2 x chicken. Wow. It was like going to the best cook in your family for a home cooked roast. Service and quality of food is the best I've had. Well done to the whole team

When we arrived, the gentleman at the counter quickly addressed us but as he was serving someone else, he gently asked us to wait, which is highly appreciated. We sincerely understood and asked him to take his time. Caleb is very friendly, polite and thoughtful. He explained the dishes to us clearly when we placed the order. After we ordered the food, he gave us some water, which is considerate. He also checked to see how we found the food or if we may need anything. The food is amazing. I forgot to take photos this time. We will certainly visit again.

The very best Sunday lunch. The Rams head is a fabulous pub. It has a great atmosphere, the food is incredible, roaring fires a great welcome. I had a lamb Sunday roast. Perfect. We were served by Tilly who had great menu knowledge and was very attentive- the best service you could wish for. I’m really struggling to find fault. I will just have to revisit next weekend!

We were a party of 3 (2 adults and a child) and we didn't have a booking but this wasn't a problem. The staff was absolutely wonderful and accommodated us. The service was prompt, food delicious and a good selection of drinks. Great atmosphere. Highly recommended

Exceptional Christmas Eve at The Rams Head! "We just wanted to thank Jason and his staff for such a wonderful evening. We visited on Christmas Eve and the atmosphere was absolutely brilliant. I was really impressed with the team—even though the pub was incredibly busy, the staff were so professional, attentive, and handled everything perfectly. The food was exceptional; we had the traditional Christmas roast and the venison, and both were superb. We would definitely go again without hesitation. Thank you again to Jason and the whole team for making our Christmas Eve so special!"

Since the new owner took over a year ago, this pub has gone from good to amazing! It’s welcoming, family-friendly, and has a great atmosphere for all ages. The staff are lovely – always friendly, helpful, and make you feel right at home. The quiz night is a highlight – fun, well-run, and full of laughs. Great drinks, tasty food, and genuine community spirit. A fantastic place that just keeps getting better! 🍻👏

It’s not a bad place, service a little slow — but seems like a place where the staff know everyone by name so it’s probably a community pub … anyway, the food was decent enough, though it was weird that the chips felt like they had come straight from a chippy rather than the usual way that they’re prepared haha… a pleasant surprise but I would’ve rather had more of them, than more of the salad (that was a little too much for me to be honest) — not sure if there’s much reason to be back but it was just fine for a one-off

Lovely, picturesque pub in Grappenhall village. Food is good quality, cask ale is a bit hit and miss. Service is decent. Would recommend for a family meal.

Staff and service were excellent. Food wasn’t the best. Beef was lovely but the leeks weren’t washed so very gritty and the food was under seasoned throughout. It’s a shame because a couple of tweaks and it could be amazing. The hot chocolate and baileys recommended by the lovely Kasia was a lovely treat.

We visited the Rams head recently and enjoyed the afternoon lunch menu of fish and chips which was very nice, On entering the pub we were greeted warmly by the gentleman behind the bar who explained the menu and lunch time special offers. The young lady who served us our meal was polite and efficient. Slightly longer than usual wait for our meal but that would not put us off from visiting the Rams head again.

Unfortunately, didn't meet expectations. We popped in on a Sunday and decided to stay for food. For starter we ordered mushrooms on sourdough toast with spinach and mozzarella cheese. When it arrived the mozzarella was substituted for a soft boiled egg, this wasn't mentioned upon ordering. Also find it cheeky that they subbed the cheese for a much cheaper alternative yet still charged the same price of £8. It wasn't worth £8. When ordering the main, we went for the chicken Sunday roast. Upon ordering we were told there is no bread sauce and no cabbage. No reduction in price here either. When the meal arrived, as you can see from the picture, for £17 it's a meagre portion. The pig in blanket was missing and the stuffing seemed like it was from a packet mix and had been mixed with boiling water only and not put in the oven meaning it was soggy. The meal was also incredibly salty and the chicken was from the leg, so the cheapest form of meat they could have used. The pub itself is in a nice area and is aesthetically pleasing, but I would only recommend stopping for a drink, there are much better places to eat locally.

We love The Rams, it's our local and we are always in for a drink and enjoy the lovely busy atmosphere it's lacked before it's recent owners. However, since the new take over, we have heard mixed reviews about the food. Thought we would give it a go and we were left disappointed in the food. The fish and chips was lovely but should be advertised as fish and fries! Felt robbed of a proper fish and chips and would suggest a change to the menu here. I didn't get a picture of the £9 calamari and again whilst tasty, I paid £9 for 5 rings of calamari and it felt like daylight robbery! I understand times are hard and we do not shy away from paying out but based on our experience today I would not be recommending the food. Great if you want a pint with a lovely atmosphere!

The venue looks lovely, but the food is disappointing. £16 for lunch time fish and chips. Where is the fish? And French fries as chips?! Still hungry after this meal

Very nice place to visit set in a very quaint little village, lovely decor and very nice just for a pint. Ordered the roast chicken with pearl rice (nearly £13 !) It came and I thought it was a dish for my 8yo daughter as it was that small! Good job I'd had a starter beforehand, told the management/head Waiter and he couldn't have been less bothered! Not good service ! Waitress was lovely tho. Probably would go again but wouldn't order that meal again.

Okay, but not great. Plates and food was lukewarm, pork unrecognisable and beef cut too thick and chewy.

My family and I visited here this Christmas day meal and, honestly, we had high expectations — especially at £90 per adult and £45 per child. Unfortunately, the experience fell far short. When we arrived, we were left waiting at the door for around 20 minutes. Once we were finally seated, we barely had time to settle in before the starters arrived. It felt rushed from the very beginning. As soon as we finished our starters, the mains came out literally two minutes later. The food itself was disappointing. It wasn’t hot — just lukewarm — and the roast potatoes were dry and nowhere near the standard you’d expect for the price. My son’s duck was undercooked and still bloody, almost rare. When I asked for it to be cooked a bit more, the staff didn’t seem impressed. Then my 11‑year‑old’s main arrived: one Yorkshire pudding and one sausage. That was it. Definitely not worth £45, and certainly not what we expected. The service overall was shocking. We’d only been there about 30 minutes when we were already asked if we wanted dessert. I had to ask them to slow down because we wanted to actually enjoy our time, not be rushed out. Bill came and they changed a service charge of £45 on top of. I asked to take50%off the charge. The whole experience made it clear they just wanted people in and out as quickly as possible. They have 2 sittings one at 12 and one at 3 which we did the12 noon sitting .We won’t be going back.

Got there and was seated on a bit of a odd ball table.. All smaller tables pushed together. At differnt levels. And way I was seated on the join of two tables. We ordered our floor about half hour after. Arriving at 1.30. The food finaly arrived at 3pm. The potato's neeed. 20 more minutes in the oven as there wasn't much sign they'd been roasted the carrots and. The other veg was veery aldente. The parsnip was. Like a soggy mess.. Seen the manager offering other tables drinks. Because the food took so long. Maybe the locals.. We wasn't offered any.. Maybe because we. Was a table of. 12.

Awful all round. For half of us the food didn't come. When it did it was cold. Staff are rude. Avoid this place, overpriced and rubbish. Better going next door. EDIT TO RESPOND TO DISHONEST REPLY: My comment clearly says half of our food came late, and when it did the late ones were cold. Jason claims I ate ALL of this cold food, which I did not, I left the rock hard cold pork on the plate. (By the way, your customers being forced to eat cold food because their complaints are met with arrogant remarks and arguments is nothing to brag about). If you want to support a business that can't even admit serving cold food is wrong, go for it. If not, avoid. Toxic.

Had the sunday roast here today, which arried late and was cold. I wouldn't have left a review, but when one of our party complained (because theirs was also cold) the member of staff started to argue and say that we ordered seperately. So what, you serve cold food when different people order seperately? Looking at the replies to other bad reviews, you can see that these people are snarky and argumentative. If you would have apologised like any normal pub/restaurant would have, I would not be leaving a bad review.

I would not recommend this pub at all due to a very disappointing experience with the landlord! When I politely asked for some extra bread to go with my starter, I was abruptly told that I would have to pay for it because "it would come out of his pocket." This response felt unprofessional and completely out of line with the level of customer service I expected—especially considering I had spent over £80 there in just two hours. While the pub itself is charming and the rest of the staff were lovely, the attitude of the owner really let the experience down. I would strongly suggest that the landlord consider undertaking customer service or management training. Without some changes in attitude, I fear more customers will choose to go elsewhere. — Sarah

Came into rams head just for drinks at that young lad serving seemed to turn into Kevin the teen ager every thing seemed to much trouble .my wife took a zip of her wine said it was that it had a bad taste to it she could not drink it tool it back to try to get it exchanged when land lord who treated me like basil fawlty would have told me there was nothing wrong with it and anyway he could not pour it back into bottle . I have never known my wife not to drink her wine so there must of been something up with it .another member of staff came over removed all cutlery why don't know we where out of there and will never go back looking at reviews don't think we will be the only ones
