It was a perfect ending to a lovely day after touring Brotherhood Winery. My friends and I enjoyed the mussels, escargot and foie gras for appetizers. Two of us had the the tender and well-seasoned prime rib. The other two had the rack of lamb entrée which was equally delicious. There were very few people there when we dined at 4pm on a Sunday. I don't know if that is the norm though.

One of the few great dining gems in Orange County, always a pleasure weather having lunch and a glass of wine on the patio or the ambiance of dining in the 'copper' room

Hands down one of best meals I have had in quite some time! We started with the perfectly grilled Foie Gras served with caramelized strawberries and mango over mescalin greens. We then had the grilled salmon with orange glaze, bursting with flavor! The scallops with basil and tomatoes melted in your mouth! The upside down Apple tart served warm from the oven was the perfect way to end a perfect meal! Our server Virginie (complete with French accent) did justice explaining chef Christian's wonderful creations and was very attentive. A 5 star experience from top to bottom! We'll be back!

We held our rehearsal dinner at the cafe. Christian planned a southwest barbecue and the 40 guests couldn't stop talking about it. We highly recommend the Vinum Cafe for a special occasion, a romantic brunch or dinner.

Amazing food! And we loved their no steak knife policy!! If we couldn't cut our steaks with butter knives, they would send it back and remake it. This policy did not fail because they cut just like butter! Super juicy and delicious. Elegant atmosphere, but not the best soundproofing (could hear the birthday party at the other end pretty clearly). The staff was very welcoming as well. We stopped in on a snowy day after a wine tasting. We will return if we get back to the area.

Food/Music/Service/Ambiance all perfect. We celebrated my wife's Birthday there on a recent Sunday. It was our first time there, and we will definitely return. Meting the owner was a nice extra touch showing that he cared. We even stayed for wine tasting in the next building.

This past weekend I hosted my best friend's bridal shower at the Vinum Cafe. The owner, Christian, along with the other staff we're extremely helpful and supportive throughout all the steps of planning organizing and hosting this event! All of the guests were ranting and raving about how great the food was and the atmosphere and Ambiance was amazing. We were able to set up our decor however we wanted and the staff was nothing but helpful. It was such an amazing time the bride was glowing and the guests all enjoyed themselves. What an amazing experience! Thank You Vinom Cafe!

I had my sister's bridal shower here and it was more than I could have hoped for. The staff was so nice and made sure everything happened the way we wanted it. Christian, the owner and executive chef was involved every step of the process and made sure everything came out the way we wanted and the food was prepared fresh. We could not have had a better shower without Christian and his wonderful staff!!

I have been to Vinum on numerous occasions, and am in awe at the recent review in regards to segregation. I personally, being a Latina and dating a man of color have had a completely different experience every time I have been to the cafe. The owner Christian has been nothing but kind to me and my family. Each time we go to Vinum the weather tends to dictate what seating is available. There has been times we have been seated on the patio, but he is always accommodating if we do not feel we are comfortable outside/prefer to be inside if it’s a nice day. There has even been some days we have been told it is too hot outside to even sit on the patio which my boyfriend and I appreciate. The food is incomparable to any other restaurant I have been to, and the waiting staff is extremely friendly and always makes me feel at home. Don’t be fooled by others misinformation, I assure you Vinum is a welcoming place if you are willing to sit down and enjoy their fully stocked bar (the Vinum Special is my favorite!) and a full meal from their delicious menu.

Our favorite place to go. Always feel welcome and food is truly great. The owner is authentic and easy to speak with and knowledgeable. We have always been accommodated. Don't be fooled by poor reviews. This place is built for romance and a feeling of ease. It's a separate entity of brotherhood but with a fine selection of wine equally juicy food . Highly recommend the Vinum cocktail, superb.

I had the butternut squash soup which was light and thoroughly delicious. For my main dish i had the Jail Island Salmon Fillet glazed with braised woked snow peas and light rice. A very clean and delicious meal. I had unsweeted iced tea to drink. I did not have coffee or dessert but they all looked wonderful. Service was excellent and ambiance was quiet and relaxing. I can't wait to go back.

Really great meal here. We went for Thanksgiving dinner, when they had a prix fixe menu. Great place to walk around after the meal, too.

Really nice restaurant for its location, but nothing great or memorable. They don’t even have too much connection with the winery, or at least having a wine pair food menu, such a shame for the oldest winery who actually invented the “wine tasting”. And they are really short on stuffs, and do needs more training. But all of them are nice and friendly.

Took my sister here before her wedding with friends. The waiter was very friendly but when it was time to pay, two people paid by credit card the rest paid cash. I was overcharged $180 on my card instead of 60. I think the waiter kept my money and overcharged my credit card. I called and spoke to Christian who said he would take care of it it's been over 2 weeks and my card has still not been credited from the restaurant I had to ask my bank to do it. Very poor management...food was OK.

Highly Disappointed - A waste of $ - I won't be back. I scheduled a lunch reservation for their Mother's day buffet for my mom, her best friend, and me. The restaurant was so incredibly disorganized. Half of the restaurant had nice table cloths and settings, while another section had paper diner looking place mats. No one greeted us upon arrival, were annoyed when we asked when we would be seated (for our reservation!) and then we sat ourselves after someone pointed to "our" table. The table had three napkins, paper place mats, and nothing else. It took several minutes for someone to come bring us silverware, glasses, and a drink menu. We all had visited the buffet and were seated and eating before we were asked if we would like a beverage with our meal. As another reviewer stated it took forever for the dishes to be cleared from our table; servers were nowhere to be found. The person who looked to be a manager or owner was wandering around lost - asked us, while we were eating, what the name was on the reservation, asked again if we had eaten yet (between our meal and dessert). It was awful. For $40+ per person I really expect a LOT more. I feel like I wasted my money. I won't ever be back.

Beware: this place is SEGREGATED!!!! Yes, you will be surprised how in 2018 it is even possible, but me and my boyfriend experienced it twice last weekend during our visit of the Brotherhood Winery and Vinum Cafe. Upon our arrival to the Brotherhood winery we decided to have lunch first and the only option on their territory was available was Vinum Cafe, so as soon as entered the restaurant chef Christian Pierrel met us and immediately offered us to seat in the patio in the backyard of the restaurant. I was very surprised, because the restaurant was almost empty and only few tables were occupied and it was very well air-conditioned inside which was more comfortable on that hot day. However my boyfriend agreed and I just followed him. Later I have noticed that another African-American couple was also seated in the patio. After having the lunch, which we actually enjoyed and complemented the waiter with tips and chef with the positive words about cooking, we felt quite full and decided to come back for the coffee and the deserts after the wine tour. As we were leaving the restaurant, some caucasien ladies in the main hall of the restaurant stared at us like they've never seen people before, which left us a very strange and uncomfortable feeling that we had initially about the real reason of placing us at the patio. Couple hours as we had a lot of purchases from the winery and thus I decided to enter first to review the dinner and dessert menu, leaving my boyfriend outside with our purchases bags. The first thing that I heard upon my entrance to the restaurant was Christian Pierrel's statement "You can't come twice to my place in the same day!" I took it as a joke, and asked the bartender first about the coffee, because that's what my boyfriend really wanted to have first. She told me that they don't have the take out cups, but if we want to have coffee inside we can have it. Then I asked if they had truffle fries, now Christian Pierrel told me that they had, but they don't fry after 4 pm, yet if I want Truffle Burger for $25 I can have that. So the waiter/bartender was ready to take this order, but Christian Pierrel stoped her telling her that I'm not serious about my order on which I confronted saying that I only have to ask my boyfriend if he wants all that and if he is, we will come back together, Christian Pierrel told me that he actually can also serve us the truffle mashed potatoes. Then him and some gentleman in the bar gave me some silly jokes about my requesting truffle fries "have you ever been in France? There no French fries there, but in McDonalds" on which I just responded that I was in France many times and truffle fries are not the same and they left me alone with their jokes, but I was surprised with their behavior because this yelp page of their restaurant is flushing with the photos of the French fries served in Vinum Cafe. As we came back with my boyfriend, Christian Pierrel's demeanor changed to the worst possible, now all his previous strange and quite filthy jokes turned into the pure rude racist statement "if you want coffee, you should go to Dunkin Donats!" We were both in shock!!! My boyfriend just turned his head at me not even understanding what was going on, so Christian Pierrel made sure he confirmed his deny to service him by stating "IF you will drive 1 or 1,5 miles you will find a Duncan Donats!" Yes, just last week in 2018 in New York State my boyfriend was denied in service only for being black! Myself being mixed and very light skinned, never ever in my life I can even dream about that the white part of my blood can help me to get food after listening to some stupid jokes and be denied in food service completely if I will dare to show up with the black man! Wow! What a shame!!!!!! Being French himself, living in the free foreign country to persecute others based on their skin color!!! This place should be closed just for the sake of protecting New Yorkers of spreading this disgusting, downgrading disease called RACISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After waiting nearly 40 minutes for water and drink menus, our order was taken. Mid way between expensive apps delivered to our table (and lunch fully ordered), we were told that the "credit card machine is not working." Apparently no ATM onsite and no acceptance of checks in spite of this failure on their part, we scrambled to collect our cash and cancel other outstanding orders. It was strange beyond words. The manager/owner kept saying it is the fault of the "Internet" not him. Classic rude to the fullest extent. I do not trust the management here and not sure what shady deals they're doing at the expense of tourists. Stay Away.

E
Elizabeth Hermann

The service was terrible! We had to ask for utensils a napkin water bread etc. The dirty dishes sat at our for a half hour while we waited for our meal. When bugs started flying around we asked for our table to be bussed and the response was nasty! Would definitely not recommend this place!

We planned our Rehearsal Dinner Party at the Vinum Café for about 75 people, many of whom were from out of town. The party started at 7:00 with everybody arriving on time and only one person was serving wine or drinks. There were not enough tables to seat everyone. There was a cheese and meat platter set up with a certain amount of cut cheeses and meats, but when the cut slices were eaten, no more would be made available because no staff were there to cut them. It was now 8:30, and no dinner had been served and everyone was hungry. At this point, the Chef comes out to cover the cheese platter so that no body could pick at it. When I saw this I decided that I would ask him when he planned to serve dinner. I told him all the guest were hungry and that it had been so long since we had arrived, he just turned his back to me and went to cover the meat platter so that no one could pick at that either. I then decided to tap him on the shoulder and introduce myself. I told him I was the Father of the Bride, and told it was rude to turn his back to me, and again, asked him when dinner was going to be served and reminded him that it had been an hour and a half since we arrived and the guests are hungry. He offered no answer and didn't seem concerned other than to say they would get started. Finally, after another 15 -20 minutes, they manned the buffet trays and allowed guests to eat. Obviously, the platters were for show only, not for eating, the chef said that only staff could cut them while at the same time providing no one to do that. There must be some unknown ploy as to the delay in serving dinner, probably to save some cost. The service was non-existent, the Chef was boorish and rude and we believe we were charged for wine we did not consume as other customers who did not belong to our party, were eating in the other end of the restaurant. All in all, it would be a cold day in hell before we would ever book another date in this restaurant.

Our family had a 10 top for Easter dinner at Vinum Cafe in Washingtonville, NY. It's nestled within the Brotherhood winery grounds. The grounds are astounding. The restaurant, not so much. It was a price-fixe menu, so the kitchen staff made it easy for the front of the house, which collapsed under the pressure of near max capacity. Food wasn't delivered and when it was it was cold. Tasted great though. But the service was so bad. I would not trust this place to handle any event. We placed a drink order and it took over an hour to get two Scotch's and a bottle of wine. Eventually the owner came over, apologized, placed two dirty glasses and an already opened bottle of wine on the table and walked away. While it was an excellent Brotherhood brand Cabernet, it took another 20 minutes to get one more glass... most got tired of waiting and just used their water glass for wine. Christian, a rude Frenchmen who said some really inappropriate things to the ladies, apparently is also the head chef, maitre'd, server and bartender. None of which he grasps. There are some places that just scream great business potential and walking onto the winery grounds one would immediately feel anxious to enter the restaurant. But the interior decor and care that it is kept is atrocious. The ceiling has huge water leak spots where mold is growing. Large sections of sheetrock have rotted through and are hanging over patrons tables. It was insane. The dust and dirt on everything, filthy cutlery and the childish grape murals on the walls left little to be desired. When you walk into the restaurant you can see right into the kitchen through the service entrance. While the kitchen appeared clean, we had the pleasure of a bent over ass crack to welcome us. My mother thought that was 'charming'. I could go on and on about how poorly this place is run. As the event planner who picked Vinum Cafe for this family function, I was mortified and embarrassed. I will never go back here for dinner and can not recommend the restaurant. That being said, Brotherhood Winery would be a great place for an event, especially for a foliage marriage. But I would have it catered by an outside group. I'm not sure who owns Brotherhood Winery, but they should open their eyes because Vinum Cafe is a huge black-eye for their brand and the community they serve. New management is clearly the order of the day here - or a reality show.

Arrived at 4:25, Dinner menu begins at 5. Place was completely empty, I mean no other customers. We wanted to order from the lunch menu, since it was still lunch time. The Chef refused to allow us to order from the lunch menu and said it was dinner menu only (which of course is double the price} We showed the waitress the menu that states dinner menu from 5-9, all they could do is apologize, and say we know, we showed him and he said no. They seemed so embarrassed. We were so disgusted that we left. Needless to say, I understand why it was totally empty. We will not be returning. The one star is for the waitresses, they were kind and attentive, as per the Chef, well.......
