Opinions de Harris Bar-B-Que Waxahachie
My daughter and I stop here every time there is a softball tournament in Cedar Hill. It is by far our favorite BBQ in Texas. Very friendly staff and the best brisket I've ever had.
Brisket and sausage were excellent. Mix the spicy BBQ sauce with the beans (which had bits of BBQ meat in it) for a little kick. Mr. Harris said that smoked chicken is coming soon. Can't wait! Mrs. Harris is a wonderful person and runs the front. Thanks for employing local school kids.
First time here.and I'll be back. I had the brisket and sausage plate. Tasted delicious, portions were excellent. I also had the Pinto beans and potato salad both of those were very tasty as well.
Second time there. Food is to die for. The meat is tender melts In your mouth. The ribs are great. Not a sausage guy but my wife loved it. We will be going back for more
We stopped by to see what all the fuss was about, I heard nothing but good things about this place. It's not all talk, this place is amazing! The side options leave a lot to be desired, so we opted to just get a pound of meat and go home to make sides. We did not try the sides, so they may be delicious but I am not a big beans person and was hoping for something like mashed potatoes or mac 'n cheese. The meat was amazing though! We tried the sliced beef and pulled pork. Their spicy sauce is great - not too hot, but a really delicious and flavorful spice. The building is nothing to write home about, so if atmosphere is important to you then ordering to-go might be a better option. I sincerely hope they thrive in Cedar Hill and I am excited to have them here.
Absolutely deserving of it's TX Monthly Top50 ranking in 2017. The food was great. Can't say enough about the quality. My wife and I enjoyed the Pulled Pork Sandwich and Brisket plate with excellent potato salad, crisp coleslaw, and flavorful green beans. Both classic and hot BBQ sauce were tasty. But, this review is really about the service. HBBQ is a family business and it shows. I felt earnestly cared for, appreciated, and welcomed back at all times. If the food was not good or just OK, I would still happily return. Thank you to the Harris family. You'll see us again!
We got a brisket sandwich, pinto beans, potato salad, and a half pound of ribs. Incredibly flavorful all around, but the ribs absolutely knocked it out of the park-- incredibly juicy, with a nice smokey bark. I pulled the bone right out with no resistance. The only time I can remember enjoying ribs this much was visiting Memphis. Service was also very quick, with everyone inside being very cordial. People coming in and out seemed to be very happy to have some bbq in their hands, and it gave me the impression this is a neighborhood staple. I'm definitely returning next time I'm in the area.
Quality: 5 of 5 Price: 4 of 5 Quantity: 5 of 5 Atmosphere: 4 of 5 I tend to visit multiple BBQ places because I really want to find that one joint that will hit the spot for what I call REAL BBQ. To me that is meat that does not require sauce to have flavor and the meat itself to have proper texture from cooking. My safe bet any BBQ place I go to is always the sausage. Harris BBQ definitely has both of the qualities for a great BBQ. After finding it in a small town BBQ guide, I had to try it. For a month I tried to get there in time as they close once they sell out. Every time I was too late to even get a smell of the place. Finally I have done so, and I can see why they sell out. Their sliced beef is thick and juicy. Something that most BBQ places over cook in order to have a good bark on it. Harris has a good bark and it still remains juicy. I judge a nice sausage on the casing and inside. I like sausage casing to have that firmness for when you bite into it pushes back with a snap. The interior is not too ground up and in fact actually has texture for meat. Unlike some other places I have tasted. It is a nice quaint place to have a good bite to eat which is locally owned and family owned. I have no issue with paying a tiny bit more when it comes to supporting and eating here. Well worth it compared to the chains in the area these days. Harris family, keep the good work up. I hope to see your place expand or grow and am excited thinking about it.
Great local BBQ. My uncle was in town & just happened upon this place while wandering around town. He told us it was good so we decided to check it out. He was right! The food was very good & the Harris family is extremely nice. My ribs & sliced brisket had good smoke taste. We'll definitelyl be back (I wish they were open today).
I have enyoyed Harris since they moved into Cedar Hill a few years back. Brisket, sausage and chicken are definitely favorites. Good portions and great value. If you want good, no nonsense bbq, this is it. Angie, Kelvin & Gloria are wonderful and always friendly. You can usually catch Kelvin out back tending to the wood-fired smoker.
I don't know what the low reviews are talking about. It seems like they're mistaking Harris BBQ with somewhere else. I wonder if they accidentally thought they were reviewing one of the several nearby BBQ joints. This stuff is great, and the wait isn't bad at all. Someone said it took 35 minutes to wait? Yeah right, the longest I've ever waited was 10 minutes, and that was for an order for a party of 8. Not the best in the area? BS- I've taken several people here from all over and they've all said it was the best they've had. Be sure to order the sandwich on Texas Toast, and get the sauce on the side if you're taking it to go. There's a reason Harris BBQ made it on the Texas Monthly Top 50.
The ABSOLUTE BEST customer service!!!!!! By far the best bbq around town!!! I ordered a stuffed potato along with a rib and brisket plate and when I say it was good...it was GOOD!!! The meat is so juicy and flavorful (basically melted in my mouth 🤤) The pinto beans and wonderful as well as the potato salad!! Definitely will be going back!!!
I’ve had barbecue from many places in my life and I can certainly say this place does it best!! I came in when it was quiet and was amazed at the size of my sandwich. Normally I’ll only eat half of my lunch and save the rest for later but I had to enjoy the whole meal in this sitting. I always look out for small restaurants like these as they’re a hidden gem. Loved it!!
First I thought the price was a little steep for a sandwich. $10 for a chopped beef. However when I got my sandwich it was worth the price hands down! The portion was over what I was expecting and the taste was superior to most places I go! I will be back
Harris Bar-B- Que is the best! Bar none! I absolutely love their brisket and the hot and spicy sauce! My wife prefers the mild but it's all finger licking good! The Harris family is good people! My beautiful wife is on a protein diet and I love it because she keeps asking me sweetly, can we get some Harris Bar-B- Que?
This is a tiny venue (maybe 10 total tables). Food is ordered at a counter and menus are printed on a white sheet of copy paper. The gentleman behind the counter was friendly and greeted each person who entered (not sure if he was Mr. Harris or not). The food and service were AWESOME! We ordered, grabbed a table, and our food was brought to us within 5 minutes. We had ordered a two meat plate (sausage and brisket) and two sides and this was plenty of food to split between two people. It was difficult to eat the brisket with a fork because it was so tender (but extremely moist). Meats are served with a choice of spicy or regular BBQ sauce and we asked for a small amount of each. Both were incredible. We may make the drive back to Waxahachie periodically just for the BBQ.
Very good BBQ. Brisket had a good set bark (I bet it’s phenomenal right off the pit after rest). Sausage was great, ribs were very good. Very nice staff! Really enjoyed it and definitely will be back.
This place is super, the best BBQ just tender and give you nice cut pieces, not those razor thin slices of beef. Very friendly atmosphere always. Looking for good BBQ. Go to Harris off 67 near CHISD high school. You want regret it.
First time at Harris Bar-B-Que, and definitely will not be my last! Our family ate almost all of our order in the car ride home! EVERYTHING...I mean EVERYTHING we ordered was delicious! Sauce or no sauce, the meat was spot on. Not smoky, dry or bland. PERFECTLY DELICIOUS and TENDER!!!!! We ordered 2 chopped beef sandwiches, a rib sandwich, 2 meat plate with sausage and chicken with pinto beans and potato salad. My mouth is watering just thinking about it!
I tried every meat they offer and was very pleased with everything. The brisket is nice and tender with good flavor. The ribs are fall off the bone good. The chicken and sausage are amazing. Their beans and potato salad are delicious.
Three weeks ago, I woke up at 4AM and drove to Snows BBQ in Lexington because it’s supposedly the best barbecue in Texas and Gordon Ramsay likes it. I drove 3 hours and waited 2 in a lawn chair. Their brisket and a couple of other items were kind of underwhelming, because I’ve been coming to Harris for so long. It’s that good. Make of that what you will. This place deserves higher ratings. My only critique is that y’all never buy enough potatoes… please don’t run out so early!
Love love love this place. Old school sliced beef on texas toast is elite top tier tx bbq. Off-set smokers using real wood (not sure what kind, but it is clean smoke). Sides are great too.
Food was great, beans with brisket excellent!!, meaty ribs, and moist brisket
Excellent price for excellent flavored bbq. Drive thru lady was super nice too.
Potentially the best BBQ I've ever had! Doesn't look like much, not very big, but this family owned place rocks! Try both the Brisket and the Ribs. And don't be afraid of the "Hot" sauce, it's awesome! The Sides are also great, especially the beans. Go try them. You'll not be disappointed.
Today was my first experience at Harris BBQ. Can honestly say they have the best brisket in the area!!! Sausage was good, ribs were good. Potato salad was sweet and delicious. Mrs. Harris was the nicest person I’ve met in a long time. Customers leaving told us there was NOTHING bad on the menu. They were right. Mr. Harris was also very personable and friendly. I WILL return and drive further for their quality of food!! Loved it!!!
Called the day before my brother-in-law’s birthday party to order for 20+ people. The food is worth the money! You won’t be disappointed. The presentation is just as delicious as the food was. They made the order process so easy and assisted me with carrying the food out to my car. So happy! Will be a repeat customer.
We have wanted to try Harris Bar-B-Que for months. We finally tried them today. The food was incredible. Huge portions and great flavor. The meat was tender and delicious We love to support local and family owned businesses. We had a chopped beef sandwich and a 3 meat combo meal. There was enough food for 2 meals. We will definitely be back.
Very nice owners and staff! Wonderful chicken it’s SO soft and delicious and the pulled pork is awesome! I can’t speak for anything else because that’s all I’ve had but it’s definitely worth stopping by. Sometimes if you don’t go early enough the chicken will be a sold out because everybody loves it! : ) It’s a nice change of pace to get real BBQ from a place that’s not a chain restaurant. Check it out you will definitely like it!!
Love the BBQ! Loved it so much we decided to have Harris BBQ cater our wedding. The food was perfect! Pick up was easy and Mrs. Harris was so kind and lovely to work with getting the order placed. Everyone was raving about to quality of the food and we hope some more business comes to this lovely local spot in our Cedar Hill community! Thank you for a great experience!
First time visitor. Brisket so tender, it cuts with a fork! Just delicious!! Loved pinto beans & Cole slaw. Wonderful meal!!
Absolutely the best BBQ I've had in a long time!
Very good! Chopped brisket, potato salad, & pinto beans all very tasty. I didn't like the green beans last time I ate this. But, I enjoyed the baked potato w/ brisket this time altho I didn't care for the bland sour cream & would have liked butter and a few pickles with it. Could possibly use a couple more veggie & dessert options such as baked beans and cobbler. Fair prices. Friendly service.
First time there, and it definitely won't be my last. The smoked beef was fabulous! So tasty! They gave us a good portion to make 4 sandwiches. We ordered $20 worth. The sauce was very good. They have hot and mild. You can order with fat or without, which is a plus for me. There's much more on the menu. Check them out! This place will be featured on the Drew Barrymore show April 5th 2p. They were very friendly there.
Best brisket on this side of town! You don't need the bbq sauce because it is just that seasoned. The ribs are good as well. I go so much the young lady knows exactly how I like my sandwiches😉. The service is also amazing! I am definitely a life long customer🙂.
Absolutely amazing flavor! I tried the meat platter and wife had a pulled pork loaded baked potato...some of the best we’ve ever eaten. A great mom and pop atmosphere. Owners Mr and Mrs Harris serve you personally and are a delight to visit with. Take the time to stop in!
Great food. Reminds me of the type of barbecue growing up. No chains holding this place back.
Me and a friend went Friday September 16, 2022 and I was very impressed of the portions they give you for the price. Ribs were very moist and tender. I just wish they had more side choices like yams and Mac n cheese.I will be back. By the way my friend loved it too.
I’ve tried a lot of BBQ and very few stand out the way that Harris does. The sliced brisket literally fell apart as I picked it up with my fork. And the sauces, mild and hot were both absolutely fantastic. The sides were delicious and this place has been instantly short-listed to my favorites.
Definitely a hidden gem in Cedar Hill. Very moist brisket with great bark. Average sausage, but not in a disappointing way. Nice tangy sauce available in hot variety. Sides are not an afterthought. Potato salad and cole slaw were delicious. I rarely leave reviews, that should tell you something.
I am very particular about my brisket and sausage and these were AMAZING! I dont particularly like jalapeno sausage, but i could not stop eating theirs. Brisket was so tender it was falling apart. Their sauce is delicious too. Not too much pepper, not too spicy. Highly recommend this place and will definitely be returning.
OK y’all, this is one of those places you probably wouldn’t stop that if you didn’t know it was there but you should! The beef is tender and very flavorful. The spicy sauce is oh so good! I had the baked potato stuffed with the beef and it was more than enough I fill you up end it was yummy!
There very nice, one of the owners came and greeted us at the drive through even after our order was taken. You can call ahead and place your order as well(recommended in my opinion). I didnt go inside so I can't comment on the interior. The parking lots a little small as is the building.
Simply amazing!! If you ever get close & don't stop in, you'll be missing some of the best there is!! Angie & Kelvin Harris have nailed it! Angie suggested the brisket & ribs & boy let me tell you, spot-on! Beans & slaw were my sides. By far the best meal I've had in Texas!! Oh, and opt for the spicy sauce, very yummy!
We decided to try out Harris BBQ for a Friday shop lunch. Ordered a couple of pounds of each meat and each of the sides. This place far exceeded any expectations. The staff were so accommodating and friendly. I will be back for sure and bringing others with me. Highly recommend!
Honesty, I took this picture to prove I was there because the food didn’t last even a minute and I didn’t get a chance to take a picture of that. So now that I have your attention, this place is the best BBQ place I’ve had in the DFW area so far. Brisket melts in your mouth, potato salad to die for, beans were so flavorful. This is an amazing find.
Wonderful family owned BBQ. First class food & first class service!!
Foods Great for the Price and the people are nice. Ill be back
Best ribs I have ever had! My husband and I absolutely love coming to this place for our BBQ. Authentic, tasty, fall off the bone good. We love the sandwiches too! My husband gets the sausage and enjoys it as well. Essentially, we have yet to have anything here we didn’t love!
Best BBQ joint j have been to in quite a while. Great food and great friendly customer sevice. Felt like j was eating with family. Would highly recommend the Brisket, it was heavenly. The ribs were also very good, great flavor and very moist. Pinto beans with brisket in them, and potato salad were all delicious. Will be back. Amazing food.
I have been trying to get by here for a while and glad I was finally able to. The sliced brisket sandwich was great. The ribs were great. The customer service was great. The older lady at the register was such a sweetheart. She really made heart smile. I believe the owners were there also. They were very welcoming & you can tell they really appreciate their customers. Keep up the great work. I will definitely be back!!! 🤝🏾💪🏾💯❤️
Food was outstanding. Brisket and pulled pork is amazing. The best thing in my opinion is the sausage.
Stopped in earlier and grabbed some lunch. I shouldve taken a picture but I was pretty hungry, maybe next time. The brisket was very moist and had great flavor, it made an excellent chopped brisket sandwhich! Huge portion too! The green beans and potato salad was great too! Every employee was very nice, they seemed like they actually appreciated your business. Stop by and give them a chance!
I have tried many BBQ restaurants and few deserve a good rating, this place is absolutely a hidden gem that has good food and friendly service. I was hoping to have the pulled pork sandwich, but they only make that on Friday, so I will be back on Friday to get one. The amount of food you get for one order is great. I will definitely be back.
2nd time in this month... Again, all I can say is "Amazing"! The food is so consistently delicious. I got a 2eat plate and a sandwich for later that day. I honestly wish I would have gotten a 3rd meal for the next day. The beef is so tender and juicy. The sandwich was so stacked, I actually got a piece of bread from home and made another sandwich for my wife to try it. The service is also so wonderful. They make you feel like you've been coming there for years. A mist try if you are in the cedar Hill area or really any where in the DFW area.
Wow!!! We've been trying many different bbq places and they've all been poor.... until today and Harris BBQ. Delicious food is what we got today and a mountain of it. My 3 meat platter was so big I could only eat half. The flavor of each meat was so good I didn't use any sauce. We will be eating Harris Bar-b-que a lot more. Great job!! Wish I could give you 10 stars.
This is by far the best Bar-B-que I have eaten around the Dallas area. Talk about generous portions, you get them here. My chopped beef sandwich had enough meet on it fo 2 sandwiches! Really like the way you can order meet to your liking, I like it on the lean side. Highly recommend this place, can't wait to go back.
Barbeque its finest, don't let the tiny store footprint discourage you. I had the ribs and sliced brisket, coleslaw, and green beans. The meat was tender, juicy and flavorful! Coleslaw is a bit rough, very course IMO. Generous portions for the price, def worth a drive to Cedar Hill, right off the highway.
Great little BBQ joint in the Hatch. Great people, the owners are hands on and doing everything right. They are friendly and helpful. The atmosphere is perfect for a great bbq dive. I got some ribs, brisket, and beans and all were fantastic. The brisket has a good bark; moist and a perfect balance of flavor; flaky fall appart goodness. The ribs are fall off the bone; perfect balance of flavor; make you drule good. No sause needed to enjoy but the bbq sause is off the chain as well. All in all everything is worth your time. Go get you some. Update. My favorite Hatch bbq dive is now my favorite Ceder Hill dive. Worth the trip still a great meal. Go check out the new location. New pics added or the inside of the new place.
This place is fantastic. We picked this at random driving through Texas and boy did get lucky. A 4.7 review on Google isn't high enough for how good the meat is here. I got the Pulled Pork and Brisket on a 2 meat platter and 2 sides. The pork melted in your mouth, and the brisket was smoky and delicious. Next time I'm in this part of Texas, I'll FOR SURE be back.
In the small town of Waxahachie, a short drive south of Dallas, is a great barbecue joint that is well worth the detour off I-35E to enjoy - called Harris Bar-B-Que. Kelvin Harris has been producing his brand of Texas 'cue for a number of years now. And I'll tell ya, he's got it down pat, producing this flavorful stuff all on his reverse-flow pit out behind the store. The brisket was moist and smoky, with a super dark bark (gotta love that!). The sausage was very nice. And the pork ribs were really good. I tried the potato salad and coleslaw, and both were very tasty. And the perfectly-toasted Texas Toast was a great addition. Side note - when you go, you cannot miss the absolutely beautiful and historic Ellis County Courthouse in downtown Waxahachie.
I've eaten a LOT of BBQ in my life and Harris' had THE BEST sliced beef I've ever eaten. I always try the first bite with no sauce then add sauce as needed. This brisket needs no sauce !!! I did try the sauce on the last few bites and their sauce is great too.
Hands down BEST BBQ in DFW area ! All meats very tender and flavorful. Family owned with great service. ---- only reason I gave 4 stars is because of the sides. They definitely need some work. Very bland beans and rest not worth the effort as well. But go there for the Meats, you won't be disappointed.
Started by good hospitality friend who had a dream an made it come true.. Very proud of him.
Got a plate with 2 meats/2sides.. Really good.. Brisket was so tender and juicy... the sausage was good too. Over all the sides Potato salad and Green beans were great too.. Definitely the home made feel. Love it! Will be going there again. (even though I live in Dallas).
I had never heard of this place a week before I went but saw an article in the Dallas Observer mention it and thought I'd try it. I tried the brisket, pork ribs and sausage and all of it was good. The sauce was especially good. Tender and moist meat. Well smoked. I'd definitely go back.
They were about to close, but I went threw the drive thru and got some brisket and smoked sausage. Unfortunately, they were out of ribs. Their pitmaster was outside so I stopped to meet him. Nice and friendly been making BBQ many years in Waxahie.
I ordered the chopped beef sandwich, lean. It was still too fatty. The brisket flavor was very good. Potato salad and coleslaw were good...not great. Staff was super friendly and the value is fair. You can choose between mild or hot bbq sauce.
Small place but the chop beef sandwich is what I always get. There is enough meat for 2 sandwiches. Juicy and tender. The drive Thur associate is always friendly and courteous. One day maybe I’ll order something else. If you’re too late arriving they may run out of some things. They have a punch card program if you want to earn a free sandwich!
First of all this is a small mom/pop shop. With that said there is limited inside dining space Do not expect a Soulman BBQ atmosphere. Also I'm sure there is limited storage space for food and most likely cook enough for the day so they are always running out of food, especially after lunch. The drive thru is window order, no ordering at a menu board. Parking is unpaved unmarked gravel lot. However, the food i have ordered the past few times is to die for. I've been in DeSoto for 40 yrs and I always love Junior's BBQ. This place tastes way better. The lean brisket is moist, the chicken is flavorful, the sweet cole slaw is delicious. The pinto beans and green beans tastes good but it could use a little more flavor. The mild bbq sauce is very good with a hint of spicy. Haven't tried the hot bbq sauce but I'm sure that is very spicy for those who like their spicy foods. Each time I have come here the food is fresh, hot, and flavorful. The staff has been friendly each time I have been there. Recommend to give them a try but keep in mind what I mentioned earlier.
Drive through only. Counter women was very pleasant. We got there late Friday so all they had were Chopped Beef Sandwiches. They were great. Potato salad was good and beans were good but needed a little more salt. Will come back to grab the meats!
Went today (Friday around 3:15PM) and only drive thru was available so I can’t provide thoughts on atmosphere. Lady at drive thru was really nice, immediately explaining what meats were still available. I ordered sliced beef (brisket) and sausage plate (2 sides were cole slaw and beans). I was given huge cuts of sliced beef. The meat and sausage were very tender, but no smoky smell or flavor.
Best BBQ I've had in a while. Sandwiches are loaded with meat ... well worth the price. Homestyle, family feel atmosphere.
The chop beef sandwich was somewhat salty for my taste, but not terrible. The pull pork was a tad bit over cooked and could've used more bbq sauce. The customer service was great. The lady at the window was very nice. Worth trying again.
Stopped drive thru tried the BBQ sandwich didn't get to try the sides yet.
The service was fine and everyone was friendly. The food however just wasn't great. I had a chopped beef potato (moist) and sausage. Neither one actually had any type of smoke flavor. It legitimately tastes like it was cooked in an oven. Not gross but not good either.
Well, I really wanted to love this place. Finally got to stop. Got the big baked potato with chopped beef. I expected it to be more than ample. The potato only had chopped beef and some melted cheese. No butter, no sour cream, no chives. I asked if the potatoe came loaded and he said yes. The meat was not smoky at all. I failed to see the big draw to this place. Franks holy Smokes in Ovilla is by far the best bbq anywhere! Their potatoes are so big and so loaded the can’t even close the container! Oh well live and learn.
We hired this company for our wedding and had HIGH hopes! We came months before the wedding and tested all the food we wanted for our wedding and it was amazing!! Flash forward to our wedding they showed up without warmers after us asking if they would have them, and also showed up without any utensils to serve the food with making one of our guest run into town to grab utensils. The owner then proceeded to tell guest he wasn’t paid enough to be there for long, very unprofessional!! We paid close to $1500 for food and 2 servers to help him. Definitely won’t be recommending or be returning customers!
Pulled up to the window today and they just ignored me they were supposed to be open until 6 and I see someone inside so I called and the man talking about they sold out today but they still had pound cake which is the only item I was coming for so why was I ignored at the drive up window
I went through the drive though for a baked potato with chopped beef . I expected a bit more .. the potato I believe was not washed correctly I can taste the dirt unfortunately the cheese on top was no melted the beef was cold and the potato was warm more on the cold side they didn’t even bother to heat it up at all unfortunately I was very disappointed from what the storefront says and claims best bbq during a certain time good flavor on the beef but not correctly presented at all
Sold raw ribs. Bland greasy meat. 2nd time here. First time they were out of everything except brisket. So I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich. I remember it being fair to middling. Not bad and not good enough to go out of my way to eat here. Happened to be in the area for work, tried it again early Saturday. Unfortunately, everything was available and I ordered ribs, brisket, and sides. Wish they had been out. Will not return. Greasy, fatty, TOUGH, bland, RAW ribs. I posted pictures of the pink. (not smoked pink but raw food pink) Very disappointing. They may be friendly but not efficient. No reason to wait 15 minutes and then deliver an inedible product. Large portions for a decent price. 2 can eat off 1 plate IF the food was seasoned and meat cooked thoroughly. The sides were all canned so no risk of not being done, they were just warmed and scooped. Made a $20 donation to the restaurant for the trash bin to consume. Eat at your own risk and if you think this is a good BBQ, explore a little more.
