Truly hidden gem. Small restaurant with delicious Japanese food. Good prices.

The most delicious sushi ive ever had (and this is coming from a sushi fanatic) so affordable and filling! I had a blast watching a baseball game and reading my book at the bar. Will definitely be making the drive from San Diego back to here

Totally, it is one of my greatest surprises in LA. This is. A genuine, Japanese, small restaurant. With a real sushi chef (Itamae). The vibe and atmosphere is amazingly close to the real authentic Japanese restaurant is this size. The balcony, the memorabilia spread across the shop... Even the tv shows with baseball. But, of course, the most important thing... The food! Forgot about any top, super popular Japanese restaurants in the LA area... This are only money makers compared to the Ta-Ke sushi. If you want the real deal, and taste fresh genuine sushis and sashimis... That is the place. Even the miso soup is better than any other place around! Stop looking for trend restaurants and go for the real ones... That is my moto now. Be aware, at take's sushi ya, they just open at night. Yoshi and Kino are great! Wlmy family is always pleased with the surprises they bring to us and how they accommodate our needs.

Love this place. Right across the street from the Whiskey A-Go-Go on Sunset Blvd in Hollywood. Go check it out and say hi to Kino and Yayoi (the owners) there for me!

Best sushi rolls and sake I have ever had! Not a huge fan of LA scene, but I told my boyfriend I would go back just to eat here again and I live on East coast near Philadelphia lol... So delicious and the family was friendly and showed us a fun night!!! Herigato

Excellent sushi, good portions, you can feel the freshness of their food. Definitely worth it and I’ll recommend it.

Ate here on the last night of a 10-day trip to LA. It was absolutely delicious. Extremely small w only five or six 2-tops and a small bar. Great for a date or an intimate conversation. Possibly the best unagi I've ever had. Great gyoza. The salmon avocado roll was terrific. I'm sorry I live in Boston because I can't go here frequently!

I visited Ta-Ke around 9pm on a Sunday for the first time. The restaurant itself is quaint and cozy. Very intimate seating only a small sushi bars and a few two-top tables along a mirrored wall. I sat at the sushi bar and ordered the: 10pc omakase. Omakase means to entrust the chef to give you the best of the best of what they have available to offer that evening and let the chef prepare it how he wants. They asked me if I had any allergies or aversions, to which I answered, “no” and the night began. Chef is an older gentleman but an expert. His fluid movements packed each piece of nigiri perfectly and you could taste each grain of rice falling apart against the palate. I recommend visiting and letting chef prepare your meal at his discretion. He knows what he’s doing. Just don’t forget to buy him a beer! Disclaimer: I am not a good critic, I’m just a guy posting his own OPINIONS.

This place is a hidden gem. Very authentic sushi. It is owned by a Japanese and everybody speaks Japanese. It definitely makes you feel like you’re back in Japan.

Knowing them for years, this family operated Sushi Restaurant absolutely stands up on Sunset Strip, they made fresh Sushi, Ramen 🍜 and Udon Noodle, they provide safety Patio Style fine Dinning during Pandemic, if you like To Go Food from them, you can even used Postmates to order from them, easily. Anyone like Japanese you should dine over there. Don't worry, the Patio even have heater during winter time. 🦪 🦞 🍣🍤 🍚 🍱 🍢 👍 👏

Great, no-frills sushi restaurant. The rolls were really good, and the decor made us feel like we had been transported to Japan! We’ll be back for sure.

It seems Japan! We toke California Rolls, Teriyaki chicken dinner, gyoza and some tempura. All is really fresh and hand made. One of most good gyoza eaten. The local is quite small, but this is a plus in my opinion.

This is our new favorite sushi place. It's a small place, owned by a family, authentic atmosphere. Not like the hip fancy places. Fish is super fresh, everything we had was amazing. Favorites are: Crunchy spicy tune roll, spicy tuna on crispy rice, albacore sashimi topped with crispy onion but so many more ate good.

J

The Sushi/Sashimi at this restaurant is probably the best I have ever tasted! Take care to understand the protocol of the restaurant and the time limitations of the genius making cuts and you will be rewarded 🙂

I found out after I walked up to the front of the door that there is parking available in the rear. The inside is really tiny, I'd guess they might get packed on some weekends. The menu is a little small outside of the big sushi selection. But its well made, the portions made me full, and it was the best eel bowl and tuna roll I've ever had in my life. It is just a little bit pricey, so I can only afford to come on rare occasions. It's in between Beverly hills and west Hollywood so I understand. Would love to come again and try their other menu items.

Without a doubt my favorite sushi place in LA. No need to wait in line at sugarfish. This place is FRESH, professional and authentic And as for all of the reviews about "bad service", I must strongly disagree. It's refreshing to finally be served by someone who isn't made of LA plastic and actually focuses on nothing but the food. The chef is an artist. Rainbow roll is amazing.

C

We just happened by here when we were in town a couple of months ago and loved it. Old kitchy type place, but with authenticity. Owners bought it in the 80s, but it opened in the late 70s and it's just gained characy over the years. The place is very small, but we have been lucky to sit at the bar every time we've stopped in, which is up to 3 times so far. Sushi is very good and the chefs are always on and love to take a quick break with a beer, which is awesome. I haven't seen it, but there is a back room for a larger party, but otherwise it's tough to go in with more than a few. We will be back later in the summer and will be there at least one or two times again on that trip.

Truly, the best place in the area to have sushi if you wanna have authentic sushi with high-quality grade that reminds you of Japan, you should come over here, Very intimate perfect for dating and also just to go grab a bite. The stuff are very nice too 🦾❤️‍🔥

Insane sushi. So so good. Everything made from scratch and absolutely delicious. I crave them during the day when they’re not open sadly so I have to wait till 6 to go.

A

While the sushi was beyond amazing, the service and time it took to get the sushi was a wait. Expect to wait at minimum of an hour or so. There is only the sushi chef making food and not in order. We saw another table cancel their sushi because of the wait.

Absolutely phenomenal- food, service, family run - Very cute, yet traditional setup inside, probably the last one on Sunset area. We were blown away by each bite. Hope they stick around for as long as they can.

Walked in right at opening on a Thursday and sat at the sushi bar with my husband. The vibe of the restaurant feels very cozy, just like being transported back to Japan. We ordered a bottle of nigori sake and the premium omakase experience. We were impressed with each piece given, the fish was obviously fresh and the rice was perfect. (Special mention to the salmon nigiri and the eel roll - still thinking about these bites!) I wish we were given a little more explanation on what each fish was, but with only one sushi chef making everything, it makes sense he needs to focus on customer orders. Our server was very kind and attentive. Will definitely come back next time we’re in West Hollywood!

Perfect, in all the ways. Small authentic Japanese style, unassuming and yet incredible food. Watching the chef make each piece by hand for the entire restaurant was just as enjoyable as the flavors. Get the sushi and sashimi omikase if you love fresh fish.

This place is absolutely amazing. It seems a real Japanese restaurant, but in L.A.. The food is genuine, but it hasn't been modified to suit local tastes, and as a result it has kept its authenticity. Simply wonderful!

Authentic family owned and ran sushi and omakase restaurant. My friends live out here and they come here often, we had reservations for the back room, it was really nice and cozy and they let us use their speaker, we probably were really loud during dinner. The sushi chef was out front and its bar and omakase style. We had the back and multiple rounds of sake, we also ordered edamame, seaweed salad and some other rolls too. I like amaebi (sweet shrimp) and they fried the heads for us. We did a couple of other tuna and mackerel rolls as well. There’s some street parking and parking further in the areas. Great vibes, authentic and great service!

I recently dined at this cute sushi spot on Sunset Boulevard that offers a truly unique and personal experience. The restaurant is a family affair: the father is the skilled sushi chef, crafting each piece with precision, while the mother manages the back of the house, ensuring everything runs smoothly. Their son handles the front of the house as the server, bringing a warm and welcoming vibe to every table. The sushi is fresh and delicious, with an authentic touch that reflects the family's dedication and passion for what they do. The cozy, intimate setting adds to the overall experience, making it feel like you're part of the family. It’s a delightful place for anyone looking to enjoy quality sushi in a homely, yet refined atmosphere.

Stopped by last night for a small bite. I had the house salad (tasty) and sushi. The Toro was great, I really liked the snapper, and the fresh water eel was fabulous. A nice, quiet place with a great staff. I can't wait to be in town again, this will be the first place I go. Yum.

Small little place. Very Authentic with Japanese family who have owned this place for 20+ years. My wife and I got a lot of different things on the menu. All of it was amazing. Great service. Great food, Great Sake. We went back for takeout on our last night in the area.

What a great dining experience! Family owned and you can feel the love and pride of ownership in each dish. We tried many things including gyoza, salmon skin roll, hamachi, mushroom miso soup (extra yum). Everything was good and the family were so nice. This is a traditional style Japanese restaurant so don’t come in asking for nobu style service. Learn the traditions and respect the service , then you will truly appreciate the dishes.

Oh man ! love this place so much, my friends started a ritual where they go every Monday. i decided to join them and had an amazing experience. Was a little busy and the space is small but worth any small wait. The front bar where the master sushi chef greets you and makes the most unbelievable sushi. The quality was unbelievable. We also had the Cold Soba which was my first time and i was blown away by the freshness and style, was like cold ramen that you dip (didn’t take a picture we ate it so fast) . My buddy got the chicken teriyaki which was ok i took a bite but was not the best thing we ordered. Overall was a great experience and so many more options to try. They have combinations on the menu so you can get a meal with all the sides for a decent price. They ended up giving us a free saki on the house for the wait which was very kind. oh lastly the dessert we had was a special rice with a raw egg they give you (not sure if it was a dessert) but wow was definitely unique and was an exotic new dish (the video i posted is us mixing the egg in the rice) . was very happy

Unexpected gem in the hart of West Hollywood. A must visit of you are craving sushi or authentic Asian cousins. We had the lunch specials. 2 items, miso soup, and salad for 16.95. Unbelievable price for an unbelievable meal. The food was fresh, friendly staff, and very cozy. Get transported out of the busy city and into this authentic restaurant.

The sushi was fantastic and authentic. Anyone ranking this place less than 4 stars is a diva and anyone ranking it 4 stars being difficult. Not sure if this place is family run but it felt like it - sushi chef was friendly and acting like he lived here in a way only good chefs do. Server clearly cared, made good recs, and was friendly.

Not since visiting the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo have I enjoyed such a deeply satisfying sushi omakase. I chanced upon this spot while in town from Pittsburgh last night, visiting an old friend. The atmosphere was pitch-perfect for such a reunion: intimate, warm and welcoming. The sushi master kindly accommodated our food allergies (gluten & sesame), serving us tender cuts of fish absolutely bursting with flavor. If I could put it in musical terms - to me it was like listening to the Beatles’ White Album for the first time again. I found myself closing my eyes with each bite like a little kid. Sharing such a culinary treat with a beloved and long-missed friend was a gift beyond words. Truly moving. ごちそうさまでした!

The fish is fantastic. Amazing flavor, prepared wonderfully, very much a stand out in an area with a lot of sushi options. The restaurant itself is a destination too, the tiny dining area is very intimate and quite authentic. They have a couple of amazing back rooms too that are a lot of fun if you book for a large group. Unfortunately, the sushi and other food can take an unbelievable amount of time to come out. I recommend not coming here if you have anywhere to be or are really hungry when you get there. It can easily take 30-45 minutes for the first thing to come out, and that is on a slow night. Prepare for an hour and a half dinner at minimum. This may actually be the slowest service I've experienced. But the quality of the food and copeous charm save this place.

Bean was very delicious. In my opinion the sushi rice was very mushy. Fish was flesh and nice but to be honest, it takes too long to serve what I ordered.

The salmon sashimi has ten pieces per order and half of them were frozen. This dish should have been taken off my bill, given the high standards you would expect from such high prices on the menu. I would not come back here and would not recommend it. The head chef drinking beer while making sushi was the cherry on the cake.
