Yes this place is at the end of a long Dead End Road so it is a bit of a destination Drive, however I was there this past Sunday with a friend and truly enjoyed the atmosphere, the live music and the awesome beer ....If Mr Short didn't think that the beer was very good, he can go back to London ...
Outstanding beer, outstanding people. My favorite is the Quarryman pilsener, and their sour is probably the best I've ever had. But you really can't go wrong with any of their brews. Fantastic friendly people, can't recommend highly enough. Stop reading this and go to West kill already. -Andrew from Treetop builders, the tree house guys.
Visited this cozy brewery last night & it did not disappoint! Delicious beer, friendly staff, and an excellent atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting again the next time I’m in the area!
What an amazing find i. The Catskills. Great menu selections for beer, awesome bar tenders, and truly awe-inspiring views. We will be back.
Lovely cozy taproom. Brewery is on off beaten mountain road, hard to see at night night, just small "fresh beer". Tasty and refreshing beers! Nice pilsner and easy drinking double IPA.
Great beer and some awesome views. They usually have a schedule of food trucks/events.
They didnt have Katerskill IPA's while I visited but I highly recommend getting a 4 pack if they have it on the menu. Really cool property to have a brewery on with a beautiful view of the surrounding hills.

What a great little out-of-the-way spot for a good beer and music! Be sure to check their line up of food trucks. We'll certainly be back.
Loved the vibes, beers and food. Live band was amazing!
I think Jeana C has an axe to grind with her 7 reviews. I just left the brewery this evening. The place is excellent. Servers were excellent. Food excellent. Band excellent. I will be back.
Imagine the gorgeous scenery of the Catskills. Imagine sunbeams bouncing off the lush greenery surrounding you. Imagine listing to birds sing and folks chatter. Imagine a friendly staff. Imagine all this while sipping on truly flavorful beer. I came here several times with some friends before hikes. West Kill Brewing just puts you in a great mood for anything. The place is clean and cozy- there is indoor and outdoor seating. Some of the outdoor seating is on a covered deck. As a result, there are always great places to sit and take in the atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly! The beer is excellent. There always seems to be a great selection of drinks; the beer is flavorful and refreshing. My friends and I were fascinated by the flavors and got different things so we could each try them. Oh, there are also snacks! The snacks really hit tthe spot and compliment the beers. I highly recommend the snack mix! Better yet, they are dog and kid friendly! Overall, I look forward to returning before another hike. Those beers and the location make West Kill Brewing a place I always rant and rave about! Keep it up guys!
What a beautiful & tranquil place in the most natural setting! If you like easy going lazy afternoons make it a point to stop by this comfortable & relaxing hometown brewery. After hearing about it for almost two years I cannot believe I didn't go sooner. The food truck pop ups & light fare on the regular menu are just right to enjoy a day gazing at the treetops & mountains. I went for the first time in early summer and brought my husband more recently & he can't stop talking about how delicious the beer was & how laid back the ambiance was either. (Hence, this glowing review!) Challenge your possy with an intense game of cornhole or just sit back & absolutely relax on mountain time. Thank you for your wonderful addition to the mountaintop community. Cheers.
What a gem of a place. Tucked away in a small town. Nice views of the mountains. Fire’s always burning. Beer is awesome. Can’t ask for much more than that. Recommend dressing warm so you can sit outside and soak up the fresh air.
Spectacular beers (make sure to ask whats new!) and you can't beat a great day in the mountains at the brewery. Everyone on staff there is great, and the food trucks they bring in are delicious. Plus, brewery cat!
I love this brewery and the beer they make! I've been going almost since they opened and really liked it from the start. I recently got married and all my beer was from them. They always seemm to be changing things oon the property, always improving the laid back feeling with a beautiful natural Catskill Mountain setting. We go a couple times a month to have a beer and stock up. Highly recommend West Kill Brewery, ifyou love real micro brew beer there is something for every palate.
Fantastic brewery. The beers are high quality and there is a very solid variety (particularly for stouts). Highly recommend if you are in Kingston. It is closeby "Dear Kingston" and I would recommend stopping by both if you can.
This place is just getting started but even right now it's super fun. They brew on-site and just opened their tasting room. It's got a real "mountain" feel to it and the tasting room has a fireplace inside and a fire pit and deck outside. The owner and employees are very friendly and fun to hang out with. Every time I've stopped in, they've had a variety of beers including IPAs, black lagers, porters, and even a sour. They also have a crowler machine so you can get your favorites to go.
We love this place. Great beer, friendly people and all the food trucks are fantastic. Beautiful setting. And they’re dog friendly! We’ll keep coming back.
Absolutely incredible and unexpected. A bit off the beaten path, but it was so worth it on a sunny fall day. They had a food truck on site that had plenty of veggie options. All the staff were friendly. Very nice vibe.
Beer was awesome. staff was super welcoming and friendly. Food truck had great food. And couldn't ask for a better view.
Fantastic establishment in a remote but amazing and beautiful location. Can't recommend the delicious beer and friendly service enough. If you're nearby (even within 30+ minutes) you seriously can't miss checking it out.
Great vibe, surprisingly good beer, had a Spanish food pop up while we were there.... have to get the cheese empanadas, excellent! Played games with friends for a few hours after our hike!
The atmosphere, views, brew and food made for an excellent afternoon. But one minor suggestion. Tell the noisy, smelly motorcycles to park at the bottom of the hill.
It's a cozy and authentic feeling place. The beer was pretty good and I appreciate that they had a bunch of local snacks as well. They have a fire pit outside and some tables in a porch area with a heater, but I think it's the most cozy inside with the exposed beams and the stone fireplace.
Very good beer, very nice folks, at a very lovely location. Also had a hell of a pizza, but as this was my first visit, I'm not sure that's always available. Will definitely be back soon!
Absolutely love coming here. Truly one of our favorite breweries ever - mountain views, friendly staff and patrons, music playing, fire pit, dogs, great beer - you really can't beat it. We almost didn't come here at first because it was out of the way from where we were, but so glad we did - it's 100% worth it to make the trip! The food trucks there are always fantastic too - just check their IG or website to see what time they leave (we missed them one time when we came later in the day, our fault). Added bonus is the brewery's merch is great - we typically don't buy brewery merch but their designs are awesome (and good quality too - have been wearing my orange and black West Kill beanie for years!).
One of my favorite breweries. The beer is all fantastic and fresh. The customer service is outstanding and the staff are as kind as can be. The location is gorgeous and with it being away from too much hustle and bustle of a city or town, this spot is perfect for this brewery. There is a friendly, laid back atmosphere inside and out. All of the customers seem to be having a great time while enjoying the beer. Job well done West Kill Brewing!
Great beer selection and cool outdoor setup. Worth the trip!
Awesome place glad we made the trip down there. Driving on Rt. 6 (Spructon Rd.) was interesting. The parking areas were full when we arrived, we patiently waited for people to leave then we managed to find a spot up on the hill. Beers were very good, food was good also. Definitely will make the return trip there in the fall. Only negative (for me) having a few beverages then that drive out on Rt. 6. Overall a great experience !
What an absolute hidden gem. We ran Hunter mountain and thankfully managed to find this spot for beer and food afterwards. Super friendly staff, fantastic beer, amazing view, and a cool brewery cat to boot!! We checked out many breweries during this trip and West Kill was hands down our favorite.
Great, spacious location with a lot of land. No issues social distancing here! Located near a ton of hiking trails as well, so it is a nice stop off after a day of hiking. The have food trucks that come up sometimes as well, which is definitely a plus too! They had a lot of Pale Ale / IPAs on tap when we went but they one that was my favorite was their "Fresh Coat" Oatmeal stout. Great beer for a cold fall day!
Found this place on a warm New Years Day up in the mountains and at the end of a great drive. The beer was great and the crowd was fun. Talked to many people around the fire pits and got some ideas for other activities with the kids while there. The kids had fun playing in the woods and throwing the football around. Don’t forget to check out the swag store for some cool merch we found.
This place is as good as advertised. Some of the best beer I have ever had from a privately operated brewery. The views are outstanding and the staff very friendly. This is a must visit when you are in the Catskill Mountains.
Love West Kill Brewing! Great spot to relax after a long hike (or snowshow/ski), and really like their IPAs
Incredible beer, location, vibes, this place has it all. Well worth the trip down the dead end road
If my mom and my aunt (the fun one) were gonna have a competition over who stocks the best snacks in their pantry, West Kill Brewing would win every time. The beer and the views are great, too. Will definitely come back once I get a girlfriend.
Great vibes, beer & food but get there early if you’re going at popular time or day because when it fills up you can feel it!
Beautiful location serving tasty beers and a rotating selection of food pop-ups. Regularly features live music on the weekends.
An absolute must-visit. Amazing beers, amazing views, amazing vibes. You can admire the beautiful mountains while hanging out by a fire pit, or go inside and enjoy a tasty beer while playing board or card games that are set out available to all. The staff and guests are always friendly and often have great stories to tell. Driving here is the strangest experience. You drive through beautiful mountain roads without seeing another soul. Then you arrive to a full parking lot and a lively brewery experience with people from all over. The beers are some of the tastiest you’ll ever have, and with a great selection brewed right here in the mountains using ingredients foraged locally. These beers are ones you can’t find anywhere else, they’re only sold in a small area here in the mountains. Regularly have food vendors serving things like lobster rolls or empanadas. All I could ask of the place is that they build a kitchen and serve more food so I can stay longer!
The best overall craft-beer-in-the-mountains experience you will ever encounter! The physical beauty of the place, coupled with the consistently excellent beer plus the attitude and personalities of every employee will have you seriously trying to figure out how to never leave! If you think this review is over the top, then you haven't been there yet!
Each year we stop here on our way to our ski weekend. Each year we walk in around 2:30pm on a Friday. Each year the same older gentleman with his dog is sitting at the corner of the bar. Each year we chat with the same bartender. Each year we have incredible beer. It’s truly one of the best breweries to exist.
Stopped here for beers and some food after hiking Rusk etc, and would definitely return. Loved the rustic woodsy vibe and the outdoor porch and patio with views of the mountains in the spotlight would be amazing in the fall. They had a taco food truck which had amazing pulled pork tacos and I had the Brookie lager which was very good. Hands down will be back.
If you are in the area, you must stop by here! The place is beautifully designed with the spirit for the outdoors. The main space to purchase beverages and snacks is spacious, the staff is nice and knowledgeable and the views…incredible. If you are in the area and want to spend some time winding down with a big or small group, this is the place! Only note: look out for their sign on the highway. You need to turn up, into the road and once you go up, you’ll see them.
What a cool brewery in the middle of nowhere! Open Fri-Sun. Well. Other than Memorial Day Sunday and Monday, which was when I was here. There was a stage with 2 all-girl bands playing rock music (Tom Prettys lol)! Beers were also way above average here. My favorite was the Moonfarmer and Falcons Prey because I seem to only like IPAs. I did try the Brookie lager, all “hooked up” with old bay rim salt (meh to the extra). Oyster days oyster stout was good too. But not my favorite. Bc it’s not an IPA probably. Food truck has tacos and fries and brownies. Left my brand new Cards Against Humanity game here and was able to get it back the next day. Perfect excuse for one last draft with a view of trees and mountains.
I ate half of this brisket sandwich before taking a picture, but I just couldn't keep my hands off it. It's delicious. The hazy IPA on tap was magnificent as well. A great brewery to visit with a nice atmosphere and nice people. Be sure to look up directions for where you want to go before getting there - if you have Verizon cellular, you won't have any service for miles.
EXCELLENT BREWERY EXPERIENCE! We have visited many breweries on the east coast, and West Kill is easily one of the most unique and memorable. The atmosphere is like no other, nestled in the mountains with a rustic outdoor attitude. The beers were fantastic, and the service was great, especially for how busy it was. We purchased beer to go and some merch to accompany memories from the stop we will have until we return. This certainly falls into the MUST SEE category. Highly recommended.
The drive itself was a scenic review of the area, how it was settled and what remains of the past. The brewery is in a lovely setting and has a small but diverse selection of brews. It was chilly on the day after Thanksgiving, so standing around the blazing fire pit was appreciated! An overall pleasing social experience set up here. Highly recommend.
Worth the drive (and the drive is beautiful)! We stopped here after hiking the Spruceton Trail up to the Hunter Fire Tower. Beer was fresh and delicious, the pop up food tent was great. WiFi, fire pit, friendly owners/employees. Dog and kid friendly. Live music was starting up when we were leaving so unfortunately we missed that. Incredible experience and views. Trying to figure out an excuse to get back here sooner rather than later!
Love this place. Very nice folks, views and Beer. Added some flies to the Give or take a fly, bread n butter Iso's and the wife gave up one of her coveted Hornburg dry flys
Small, local brewery with a tasty selection of offerings. It's off the beaten path, but the drive there is scenic. The couple that owns and runs it are very friendly. The seating area was outside. They had a fire pit going when we visited. Their dog, a Welsh Terrier named Admiral, is a gem. They also had pretzels and mustard for sale to nibble on.
Great location, still amazes me that you can build a brewery in the middle of nowhere on a dead end street and people will find it. Good beer, great views. Only had 1 bathroom, needed more shady seating and the food truck was a plus.
Definitely off the beaten path but well worth the excursion to this hidden gem. Great brews, fun atmosphere with good vibe, and the food tent outside was pretty good too. Only complaint is that they don't do flights.
This is a cute little place. The quality and selection are good, and the views are spectacular. They support live music and do events apparently. Probably want to eat first. Their selection of snacks is minimal.
Pretty cool place out in the woods. The beer was pretty good and they had a band. Parking is all on a hill and with a motorcycle that was a problem because there was a lot of rain washed out areas so you must be careful it's fine in a car bought some flatter parking would be nice.
Great beers, views, vibes, and music! Northern Ramble was playing when we were there today and I hope they come back! One star off because there was an awful sewage smell that kept coming and going throughout the 4 hours we were there. It didn't matter where we moved our seats we still smelled it. I really hope they're able to fix it asap because other than that it was a great experience!
A perfectly fine brewery, but the standard serving size is not a pint but approximately HALF that size. So figure approx double the price shown on the menu for a pint of beer. That means a pint of beer is effectively $14 per pint for the least expensive. But the beer was good.
The beer is great but there is nowhere enough seating. And when it's snowing it's not fun being outside without a heater or fire because everything is full and the only thing left is one gazebo without anything to keep warm. Also the bathroom line fills up the entire inside. Things that need to be immediately fixed. You're super popular but definitely aren't built for it. I'd seriously think before I go back unless I know it's not going to be busy.
Awesome place, good music and beautiful scenery. However, they do need to put up some umbrellas or an awning to protect people from the sun. No one wants to sit at the outdoor bar or at the tables below because it’s too burning hot. People are fighting over the few shade tables. An awning would really help. Same for some umbrellas around the fire pit area.
Went for Oysters Event, also loved the Lobster Roll. Will return because the beer (Dead Rabbit Stout) is good and the employees are very nice and easy to talk to, even with several layers of cotton covering words. Wish I was closer. The brewery sits on a hillside that looks out over another. There are fire pits with seating, one patio heater (that should've been on) under cover with 4 tables and more picnic tables scattering the hillside. A bit challenging if up or down hill is hard on your legs or knees but worth the try. Thanks West Kill your Oyster and Lobster Roll lunch was tasty and the beer was excellent.
Visited them this last Weekend -- very beautifull Rustic Location -quite a hike up there driveway . Somewhat strange Brews ---- but extremely CLEAN tasting ( paradoxical ehh!!!??). Friendly staff - but they seem to serve a more Monied -elitist Clientele - just check out the price for a Growler container $50.00!!!!!!!!!!! that is outrageous --- I liked the Pilsener & the Sour(reminds me of a Health Food "apple Cider Vinegar" tonic) . Ok for those who really like to go to remote Craft Brewries.
Unfortunately, this place has really gone downhill ever since they opened the Kingston location. We used to go here every weekend of the summer and enjoy the food, beers and views. The beer is still good and the picturesque location is to die for. The downfalls: - They used to have food trucks (the variety was nice), but about 18 months ago they built their own food trailer. It has been close to a flop. The food variety is subpar and they RUN OUT of food hours before closing. Want to eat something at 4:00 - good luck! When the food trucks would run out of food, it was easy to cut them slack and chalk it up to inexperience with the crowds. However, there is no excuse for West Kill, this isn’t their first rodeo. - Even in the summer, there is limited seating (the winter is brutal). - Lines for beer are long. Would love to see some changes made. They could easily order more supplies for the food trailer (especially on holiday weekends), add more seating, and staff up. Would love to see them turn things around, but for now left with a bad taste in our mouth.
Very pretty area. Looks like the place could use a good spring cleaning. The beer selection is excellent. Nice place to relax. A lot of spots to sit outside, which makes it really attractive. Although the metal stool type chairs on the deck are not fun to sit on!
I have been following the brewery on IG for awhile now and have been wanting to check them out. They are quite a hike from the lower Hudson Valley. They offer some great pop up eating options, but unfortunately I believe you have to get there quite early to be able to take advantage of them. The beer that we tried was good. We liked the layer back country atmosphere of the brewery. We would have to go back again on a quieter weekend to be able to really take advantage of what they have to offer.
To me the beer was poor I see everyone raving about it - it’s okay if craft IPA beer is all you know. Located at the end of a nowhere road so it’s a destination place. So it needs to be worth the ride. Beer sold at $7 for a 8oz glass that would be better to sever wine in. Fortunately for them they seem to be doing better than their products deserve
