Opinions de Rick's Drive In & Out Whittier
The service here is phenomenal. Great service starts at the very top and works it way down. This has got to rank among the top 3 best places in WHITTIER to make customers feel VERY welcome and has great food. Two thumbs up to the chefs that work hard. Rick's is also known for their interactions with the community. This place belongs in Whittier. Last but not least, to the man that continually oversees this great restaurant, awesome job RICK ! ! !
Decent food. Prepared quickly and served hot. Great place to drive thru and grab a quick bite. Their burgers are pretty good and the chili cheese fries are to die for according my girlfriend. Always friendly staff and the owner is even way cool. He gave my son a free ice cream cone.
I have been going to Rick's for over 50 years. I love everything about it. The food is freshly made and the staff is like a family. In recent years I've primarily used the drive-through where, like the inside, the service is fast and friendly. Their "chili rellano burrito" is my current MUST HAVE with the delicious chili rellano, rice, beans, cheese and sauce wrapped in the toasty flour tortillas. I like this tortilla. Once in a while I'll get a dollar off coupon for next time. These coupons are literally works of art. It's difficult to part with one. Although I'm writing this review in January, I must mention their outdoor Christmas decorations. They are very well-done. Pick up one of their holiday coffee cups while you're there, if they have any left. I like both the red and the white cup. I bought five of each. The designs are new this year and make me happy. The drive-through order menu is all brand new, bright and cheerful. But back to the food. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and I've enjoyed it all. Some things I just don't order out, no matter where I go or who I'm with. One is French fries. I just don't go there. Rick's signature dish for me has always been their single patty hamburger. It's simple and delicious. My goodness! I almost forgot to tell you about their Albondigas soup that I had recently with corn tortillas. Here were two delicious Albondigas meatballs in this homemade vegetable filled broth. I had forgotten how good their soups are. I also had their fried zucchini sticks. Not my favorite. But zucchini never has been as it holds too much water for my taste. These sticks weren't any different. A little too moist for me. I guess that my mind was yelling twice fried french fries and my taste buds had a fit! Give this long-standing, local iconic diner, drive-through a try. With a mischievous smile, tell them I sent you and ask about their Christmas mugs. Who knows. You might get a free ice cream cone!
Family friendly, cute diner in uptown Whittier. The owner commonly hangs out and makes sure his customers are happy. The food is always delicious and made fresh. Highly recommend the chili cheese fries. There are a variety of foods from burgers to burritos. Plenty of options to choose from.
An honest no frills burger place. Great atmosphere and service. My girlfriend said it was the best burger she had in a long while. Their patty melt was great. Wide variety of customers, that tells you how good this place is.
The cheeseburgers are made fresh, like the ones I had as child with family. We would go to hamburger drive ins, they'd bring tray to place at windows. The girls would roller skate back n forth delivering food. Their zucchini are great, thin not thick. Very tasty. Really enjoyed the clean n peaceful atmosphere in uptown Whittier. Thank you Mr. Rick.
We are a non profit, adult day program and we are back in town to celebrate our first fourth of July celebration in person. Rick's was amazing, the burger was fresh and well done. The owner Rick, was very welcoming and offered extra dressings and dipping sauces, at no charge. He was very empathetic to our group of guys and our guys had a great meal.
Incredible. There's a reason it's a whittier institution. Double cheeseburger was flavorful, crisp veggies, perfect fries. Chili cheese fries are a must. Also ordered the pastrami quesadilla which was great in its own right, but paled compared to the classics done oh so well.
My boyfriend grew up in Whittier & wanted to take me to the place he'd have lunch from time to time. It's a very classic place with friendly staff and good food. Sitting outside and watching all the old-school cars drive by was great to do on a nice sunny day.
The food is great. The staff are very friendly. They had some treats on the counter for the people who came in. Not sure if it was for the holiday season but a very nice gesture indeed. They also had a large display of Christmas cheer inside and out.
This place was recommended by my google maps app I use on my phone and I am very glad they did! This place serves quality food. It hits the spot just right and the cashier and staff were very friendly. If you're ever in that area, try that place out! I ordered their colossal burger that has pastrami in it and it was very delicious👍🏾
Very good flavored food. Excellent customer service very clean environment would recommend all my friends and family. My family nd I had the best Halloween dinner there thank u
The best downtown diner in Whittier, where the girls are prettier.
Today I went and I ordered chilly cheese fries with a hamburger. It was really good and the service was really fast. The cashier that attended me was really nice and she spoke both English and Spanish which was a plus. The atmosphere was peaceful. I 100% recommend going here especially for their chilly cheese fries. 🍟🍔
Love Rick’s! Their ground beef Taco’s are off the charts! Just tried their Club sandwich with fries last week and added Avocado which was so delicious! The Club was perfectly made! The bread was toasted, but not too much, which made it easy to bite into. I know that’s why it was so good. The chefs know the secret to a great club! Prices are affordable and worth every penny! Rick’s is the best!
I love their shakes, chili cheese fries, hot dogs, & burgers. Everything tastes amazing. It feels like a home cooked meal. No wonder they have been in business for so many years. One of the best places in all of Whittier for burgers. Also their prices are so good. Fast service too. You can get in and out real quick. Love coming here!
Just ordered Ricks fried chicken dinner it was perfectly cooked and delicious. The crinkle fries at Ricks are always spot on! and the salad was so super fresh really good! I definitely appreciated that salad an enjoyed it 😋. David ordered the pastrami with extra pickles all so good. Thank you Ricks and also thanks to your very humble an kind staff. See you all next time. Helen n David of Whittier🩷🩵.
Great little place next to Double Tree. Nostalgic diner feel. I had the hamburger and fries combo one day and the chili dog the next. Both very good and would definitely recommend. Service is so friendly and attentive. Had a business lunch the second trip and Nicks did not disappoint!
We love this place and order from them at least 2-3 times a month. Their burgers are always delicious, and chili cheese fries are a wonderful cheat meal. Staff is always friendly, and items are reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend 👌
Perfect place to eat a burger after the movies
It's been years since I've had Rick's. We were in the area and stopped in for a quick lunch. For 2024, the prices are reasonable. Pastrami sandwhich was stacked, Cheeseburger was classic and my choice of having breakfast for lunch did not dissappoint. The steak with my steak and eggs had that perfect grilled taste. It wasn't too crowded, staff was efficient, polite and attentive. Three of us ate for $36. It might become a regular Sunday after church stop. (note: Rick's stops serving breakfast at 1:00 p.m. as of this writing.)
I'm addicted to their crunchy, hard shell ground beef taco, it's exactly what you would expect. the employees are great too.
Would definitely go back to Rick's next time I'm in the area. Was staying at the hotel next door and ended up eating breakfast lunch and dinner there. I wish they would open one in Las Vegas. Thanks
The owner has always been the nicest, food is bomb
Want to have good breakfast this is the place excellent food.
This Mom & Pop establishment is located in uptown Whittier. Food is delicious no matter if it's burger and fries or Mexican food. It's a good value for your buck. We stop there before we go to the concerts in the park during the summer or when we go to the movie house right down the street. You gotta see it during Christmas time. It's great for family pic's. Stop by and make your day, punk (that's a line from Clint Eastwood 🤣).
We had the Rick's cheese burgers and they were delicious! 10 out of 10, highly recommend.
**Review for Rick's Drive In & Out in Whittier, CA** Rick's Drive In & Out has been a staple in Uptown Whittier for many years, and for good reason. The food here is consistently good, and the hamburgers are particularly noteworthy. They’re actually some of the best in the area, making it a go-to spot for anyone craving a quality burger. The place is clean, and the staff is friendly, which adds to the overall positive experience. If you’re in the area and looking for a solid hamburger spot, Rick’s is definitely worth a visit. Personally, I’m a big fan of their pastrami cheeseburger—it’s packed with flavor. Don’t forget to try the onion rings, too; they’re the perfect side to complete your meal. Overall, Rick’s Drive In & Out is a dependable choice for a satisfying meal in Whittier, and it’s easy to see why it has remained a local favorite for so long. Give it a try if you haven’t already!
Just ordered and cheeseburger special ,it was delicious!
R.I.P. Rick! I love this place. It was the first notable place I dined at when I moved to Whittier. If you want a good cheeseburger, you can't go wrong. The fries are excellent. They also have a variety of menu options like fried fish plate and a good chicken burrito. If you dine in, the decorations are so fun and there's such a lovely familial warmth.
Terrific burger and fries joint. It has a throw back feel to it. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have a lot to choose from menu. I haven't tried a lot of it. If Burgers and Fries is your thing then Rick's is the place.
their hamburgers for juicy and thick are chili cheese fries was awesome better than the other places I have been. thank you
The Rick's taco. A masterpiece. I'm 67, I grew up in Whittier and left decades ago. I now live in Virginia. I'm in CA for a visit, and tomorrow, I will be making Rick's a destination spot as I drive from Anaheim to Pasadena. For the tacos. Best taco anywhere, ever.
Great family business serving amazing food with really friendly service. The veggie burger with a fried egg and the Turkey burger with everything were both delicious. The fried zucchini order was just enough to snack on for 2 people without feeling like too much like some places. Highly recommended.
My fist time there. Great place to dine in, it gives out a 50s dinner. The only cons I have is that, the chili's burger had mustard and felt that it over powerd the chili. Not a big fan of mustard. The checken strip are amazing. I recommend this place.
I've been eating here pretty often. The veggie burger is very good. I always upgrade my drink to a milkshake. Soft tacos and hard tacos are good. The sauce on the tacos gives it that extra kick. kids meal portions are pretty big. Don't forget to ask for your Ricks dollar which you can use on your next visit. It's a dollar off your meal.
Rick's is a very welcoming restaurant, you feel the great atmosphere the moment you set foot in it. Staff is super friendly, not to mention the owner, which is always giving a helping had to his employees and making sure customers are having a great time. I usually come here for their delicious oatmeal, but every now and then I get other items on the menu. The reason I'm giving Rick's 4 stars is because some of their food lacks in flavor, even their homemade salsa ranchera. Coming from a Mexican culture myself, I can tell you this food needs a little bit of work in the flavor part. I hope this comment is taken constructively and not negatively.
This is a very busy burger joint that serves other food as well but I mainly come here with for their burgers and onion rings. The burgers taste really good and aren't soggy or dry like other places. Also, the bread doesn't fall apart as well; which, is very important for me. I usually get fries but if you want crunchy onion rings, this is where I head out for them because other places tend to burn them unlike this place where it just turns out just right.
Everything is good. I been coming here since 1979. 1 big problem, RICK, you put way to much potato 🥔 in ALL your breakfast burrito s They taste ok. But 80% potato ?
Have visited twice. I tried the patty melt & chicken burrito with just cheese, cilantro and onions & salsa (really good). So was the chili cheese fries. Staff was friendly. The place was crowded with dine in folks. We were getting food to go but the wait was not too long.
Best fast food turkey burger in Whittier! Not kidding!
It's good and fast in the drive thru
It's a solid burger joint with some sandwiches and Mexican options as well would be 5 stars but $75 (pre tip) for 3 adults is a little pricey imo. Definitely worth checking out tho.
Their grilled chicken sandwich was HUGE. Ask for some banana peppers and thousand islands to go along with it. The pineapple shake was a bit more chunky (pulpy) than I would usually like. But Im sure their other shakes are perfectly fine.
Burgers were great and there was a car show so it was busy and the bathroom line was long. Great food!
Met up with BTS ARMY friend for lunch at Rick's Drive In & Out. Order first at the counter and then get your table. I tried the sausage egg breakfast burrito ($8.49) and chocolate and strawberry shake ($4.99). They also have vanilla, pineapple and cookies and cream flavors for the shakes. Overall a very hearty and yummy meal. Parking lot can get a bit full as well as indoor seating, so try to come during off peak hours!
I'm not sold on this place. I'll try again but the burger was good but not great and still ten dollars. So far I still prefer in n out. Price to quality to taste. I've heard this place is an institution so I'll try again but do far it's just ok.
I've been enjoying Rick's since I was in high school at their Alhambra location, but sadly that place is now closed, plus I now live in the Whittier area, so this Rick's is my go-to, usually for the drive thru and rarely dining in, so I was surprised that a server brings your food ordered at the register to your table. Place can get quite busy with people of all ages abd from all walks of life. I enjoy all their burgers but lately been having less cheese. Rick's fries are one of the best as they taste like they were made from real potatoes. Their chili cheese fries are not bad but could be better. I have yet to try their other items like the quesadilla.
This place has an old diner type restaurant feel. They got one TV. Parking lot is a decent size. I paid $5 and some change for a decent chocolate milkshake. No thrills. The shake tasted like chocolate. I think I like how they have the chocolate sauce on the bottom. They need bigger straws for their shakes, unless you like being a vacuum; trying to drink from a small straw. Restroom was clean, service was quick, and friendly.
Their service can be spotty and I swore I’d never be back after an incident a while back. But damn they make a very satisfying turkey burger. Don’t care too much for the crinkle fries but the turkey burger is worth the minor fry disruption. Grilled cheese sandwich is also delicious. Love it when they include pickles on the side. A good burger joint.
Food was great S always. service was ok. Cashier was not friendly at all. Seemed she didn't want to be there. I ordered fish tacos and she told the cook 8n spanish. If you have time 2 fish Tacos. I ordered water and did not get it. So I just say and ate my food and left. I guess the whole pandemic has gotten the best of a lot of people.
I feel like Rick’s has lost a step. Is there new management? Communication is difficult the team behind the grill doesn’t seem to be working well together. The staff seems to have slowed way down. For the price level the frustration isn’t worth it. I don’t see the manager who used to be here anymore. I’ll take a little further drive to tams or in n out.
I got a pastrami and it was ok but skimpy. The heat was good but the bread was soggy and falling apart. It was an ok substitute for my usual place.
The cherry pie was good and so were the chili fries. But the “crispy chicken sandwich” was actually just cheap chicken tenders on a sandwich. Elsewhere on the menu it lists it as “grilled” and I assumed this would be something good and not cheap fried chicken tenders. It was almost $10 so very overpriced and misleading advertising. It should be called “chicken tender sandwich”. I wish I got the burger instead. I grew up going here and also go to the one in echo park.
I am not a local, however I frequent your establishment anytime I have work in the area. I don’t want your fries and onion rings however your price is the same. Your large drink looks like maybe a 16oz, I see larger cups (correction it’s 12oz or less with ice), why doesn’t the order taker offer that? I don’t know you use xl and xxl drink sizes or your small is the large. For a sandwich added avocado and a large drink $19.50, that’s with out the fries and rings I don’t want. I like your food, I don’t like the zero flexibility. Again love your food, thank you
Ricks always had awesome tasting burgers. What happened?? I ordered a cheeseburger and they put everything on it that i asked to take off. Then they left off the one thing I wanted on the cheesebuger. And the meat?! It taste like the hamburger meat you would get on burgers in highschool. The lady at the window was extremely courteous so the service was A+. The fries are always excellent as well. But please, don't put lettuce that is turning brown on the food. Really nasty.
A Char-Broil burger stand with an extensive menu has a whole lot of history throughout Southern California. Rick's is a survivor dishing out crowd favorites and regional flavors. The drive-thru is still alive for all diners' tastes and needs. It's a short-order grill here, catering to your usual menu items. Burger patties are charbroiled, which adds some additional flavors that others may not have. Hot Pastrami is a crowd favorite, along with the burritos and many breakfast items. Unfortunately, this is not a cheap eat. A double cheeseburger with bacon will set you back $22, paired with a soda and fries. They are consistent, though, and the old school favorites keep patrons coming back. The service is good. The staff is friendly and the ketchup bottles are well-stocked.
I only go here because my pregnant daughter likes the pancakes. But the owner that was counting all the money thought she'd be helpful and handled my order without washing her hands. Not a very friendly group of workers.
I drove 30 minutes cause I saw someone post on Instagram for this place and it wasn't good sorry. All of us agreed. To much thousand u put on burger. Used so many napkins cause it was so messy. Fries had no seasoning smh. Chili cheese fries was good and service was good. We will not be coming back!
Been coming for years....but sad to say food was not great this time. My burger bun felt stale onion rings were so hard we could not chew then...they looked like they were refried ...we did tell the lady in charge and she replaced them with chili fries and re assured us they weren't refried but still not buying it. And the menu was pretty much all gone very little to choose including drinks. Doubt I'll be returning for quite some time. Sadly i know the pandemic has a role to play in this too, so maybe once it's over I'll come back and she if changes to the best place I loved coming to.
Payed $12 for what was supposed to be a carne asada burrito but sadly it was majority beans and just a little carne asada. It's sad because I grew up going to this restaurant and the Whittier community has took good care of Rick's to bad they rather burn their customers rather than show appreciation.
I'm such a huge fan for Rick's fried zucchini and ranch. But today it was so disappointing the ranch didn't taste like it should taste. It tasted very peppery, nothing close to their original ranch dressing. Their zucchini were good. But very sad that the ranch taste great.
the only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because it's conveniently located where I live and they have good customers service. Other than that this place is not all its cracked up to be. It's ridiculously expensive and has the worst drive-thru menu in the world (seriously, go look for yourself). I paid $13.50 for this double cheeseburger combo with hardly any fries and a drink full of ice. Absolutely no ketchup either. mind you, a pastrami combo is $3 less. I don't get it. I don't get why the Uptown Whittier Association keeps these people here. I'm assuming it's favoritism i guess. But it's my own fault for coming here knowing what I'm going to get in the first place. I mean, I guess the reason for being so expensive is because they have to pay the 100 people that are in that kitchen working... I'll continue to go to Tam's or Douglas. Oh, and can someone please tell the owner lady to stop counting her register money in the middle of the kitchen. Every time! Then on top of that she'll start helping out by handling food without washing her hands!!!
Be careful my wife parked 3 mins to get her friend’s to eat here vehicle got towed. Very bad experience! We have been coming here for over 20 years. Wanted to show our out of town friends a nice burger spot and it turn into a nightmare. Towing company knew she only parked for 3mins and didn’t care was very rude and disrespectful even Rick’s staff was unwilling to resolve it she stated they Towed the wrong car. Called Whittier PD filed a report this is wrong. I hope the owner at Rick’s will help us resolve this.
They have very rude people here. Won't be coming back here. Food is OK pancakes are thick. There's many other similar places same food. But don't have rude nasty people. So I change my mind and opted for take out.
Closed the doors early. Sign says open but obviously wasn't. Everyone just ignored the fact that my wife and 3 small children where trying to get in and pretending were are invisible. Would of loved to try the food. Note drive thru is open but we walked so.... oh well.
Lady at drive thru was very rude. Kept trying to rush me ordering. And then when I get to window dosent even make eye contact with me, has an attitude and just plainly makes me feel not welcomed there. Didn’t know what I did to make this person I never met treat me so rudely that it affected my mood after that.
I’m sorry but not sure what happened it used to be good but sadly my son was eating raw chicken strips I noticed and had to tell them. I feel they lost there touch with food we won’t be coming back
I had a terrible experience here and won’t be returning. While walking in Uptown Whittier with my family, my two young daughters urgently needed to use the restroom. The staff told me it was occupied, but after waiting over 10 minutes, they then said we needed to make a purchase to use it—even as my daughter cried and struggled to hold it. I made a purchase out of desperation, and they finally unlocked the restroom. The lack of empathy and communication was appalling, and the food wasn’t good either. I understand policies, but this situation called for compassion. Highly disappointing. Fries were terrible
The burger is no better than any other independently owned burger joint. It’s good but nothing special however the reason I give a 1 star is the fact that they have the audacity to ask for a tip at the DRIVE THRU!!!! If you pay with card they make you sign the receipt as if you were at a sit down restaurant and if you write a big fat zero on the tip like i did, their attitude towards you changes. I have never been to any drive thru where they make you sign the reciept and ask for a tip it’s absolutely ridiculous. What am I supposed to tip you for??? Handing me my food? Never coming back, I dont recommend until they fix that.
I would give it 0 stars if I could. The food was not good, i literally didn’t even finish it. For $30 i was expecting some flavor but damn it was like wet cardboard and the fries were either hot and squishy or rock hard there was no in between. The breading on the chicken tenders was literally crumbling as someone picked it up. Im literally so mad i spent money on this. I wasnt expecting this grand meal or anything I know i went to a burger joint but my god when McDonald’s tastes better you got a problem. ESPECIALLY WITH PRICES LIKE THOSE!
Chili tasted like canned chili, no flavor at all, world famous for what
Burgers are just alright, nothing amazing or good. And don't get fooled by taquitos plate on the monitor. The rice and chicken inside taquitos tasted old, and beans had no flavor. Never again 😒
What happened Rick's Burgers???? Look at my tuna melt! We stopped by after the movies last Friday evening. It was nowhere near closing time. Service is always above and beyond. But your TUNA MELT this time was sub-par. Oh, no. Bread, not toasted evenly. Wife didn't want to order anything after seeing that. We finished our onion rings and fries while we waited for our ride back home. As expensive as you are, you would think they would up their game. Come on Rick's you all are BETTER than this Update 10/28/24: Due to circumstances, we ended up eating at Rick Check out this humongous sausage breakfast burrito!! Guess what? It's DELICIOUS!! and service tops. Thank you staff for restoring my faith in Rick's
