Love this place! If you have never had Arrecheras Molcajete, THIS is the place to try one. BEST thing in the world, and only 25 bucks for a steak one. Urbano down the street charges like 60-70 bucks for one. Also, DOPE margaritas, so tasty! The Mangorita is bomb! And Luis was the man!!! always making sure I was good to go and great convo <3 will be back again and again!
One of my favorite places! Been going here for years! Love the authentic food and friendly staff! Karaoke every Friday and Saturday from 10:15pm-12:00am or later (it goes until 2:00am usually but call ahead if you plan to go after midnight). The BEST karaoke crowd and performances! There is a late night food menu and full bar. Awesome happy hour specials and delicious food and drinks! Their tortilla soup is so good, tamales are just right, and the fajitas are spot on! Consistently great all around!
We really enjoyed this place. We had the combination fajitas with salmon, scallops and shrimp. It was very good. Salsa and chips were good too. Great service. Cool place. I would definitely recommend this place. UPDATE: We went back again. Food and service was great. I added some additional photos.
I had an excellent lunch here. The owner, Luis, personally waited on us. I had just done a big workout and he convinced me that I needed to try his hand made lemonade. It was fantastic! He adds lime and lemon to it and it was exactly what I needed. Both my work partner and I did the molcajete which is a lava rock that they bake the food in. We had chicken and steak and the flavors were wonderful! This is a great spot to eat lunch or dinner at on King St!
This place was definitely worth the visit and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for solid Mexican food. The staff were extremely pleasant and were attentive, which is good because they did not leave us unattended for long periods of time. The preparation of the food was fast and the taste itself was delicious and fresh. I enjoyed their street tacos and fresh lemonade. I will be coming back for sure.
The street tacos were delicious and tasted very similar to the ones back home. I got the Diablo margarita and the spice on it was great. It wasn’t spicy but definitely did have a kick to it. Our waitress did a great job at being attentive. The music being played was authentic and reminded me of home. Overall a great restaurant, ambiance, and service. Worth trying out if you are in the area.
Good food for what it is. I only had an appetizer so I can't really judge the place. Seems like it has some really good options on the menu if you know what you're ordering 🎉
Tacos were good. I wasn't a fan of the creamy salsa or chips but the tacos were good as were the rice and beans. My wife, vegan, ordered just beans and rice for lack of options and the portions were very nice for her. Inside is very dated and service was slow but it was a decent little stop. Outside seating available and a small bar inside.
Quite good! I had the chicken and steak fajitas, and they were really good! The beans and rice that came with weren’t anything to write home about, and the salsa (although fresh) was not my favorite style—quite watery. Overall though, this was a good meal at a reasonable price. I would definitely go back!
Very disappointing delivery experience. App originally said 45 minutes when I ordered but tracking showed no one had picked up the order an hour later. I called the restaurant and they said another driver picked up my order by mistake and they were making a new order (meanwhile they never contacted me about this). The order eventually arrived and to be honest the food was good but the portion size of both the entrees and the sides were disappointing. If this occurred while dining in I would have sent it back. Not to be picky but you know those little compartments in the take out container were barely half filled. As a Google Guide I review many restaurants and am sorry to have to leave a review like this.
Wandered into this place while exploring old town. Sat at the bar with a friend. Cool little spot. Colorful vibe. When the bartender came over we asked about the happy hour menu (as it was not included in the menu they handed us ) He reached behind the counter and pulled out the small menu, very begrudgingly. Ordered the house margaritas and some chips and salsa. The margaritas were well flavored, but stingy on the tequila. The chips were crisp and delicious but the salsa was about as basic as it could possibly have been. When the bartender finally came back over (he basically forgot about us once we got our drinks) we asked if they had a spicy salsa. He did have a VERY good sauce hidden away. That made the meal significantly better. Wouldn't recommend going out of your way to find this place but if you want a quick margarita while walking around it's worth a stop
I’m disappointed with my experience at Los Cuates. The wait was long to be seated, tables had opened up and we were still barely acknowledged. We ordered the guacamole and were served this tiny amount. When asking for napkins, salt, etc. no one ever brought them. The food was subpar.
This use to be one of our favorite places but this evening was very disappointing. It should have been a clue when we were the only people in the restaurant…. Poor quality food and small portions. Large margaritas had little to no alcohol and the bill was hefty for the experience. Our server was nice, but also added a 20% auto gratuity with it not posted anywhere.
Worst meal we think we’ve ever had a restaurant. DO NOT waste your money here. Enchiladas had zero sauce and were covered in unmelted store-bought cheese. Beans were straight out of a can and not hot, while the rice tasted like plastic. We were so disappointed after being excited to take our infant out for an early dinner as a family.
I don't like to leave negative reviews. Especially on small businesses. And especially in the food service industry because I've worked most of my life as a bartender. But I'll make an exception for Los Cuates. Terrible service. Very mediocre food. Super pricey. I would give this place zero Stars if I could. When I walk in there's one server. He stares at me with a blank face for like 10 seconds before I finally ask him. " Are you open?" He sits me down and stares at me blankly for another 5 seconds in disbelief like I have three heads. I order quickly just to end the awkward interaction. Pork enchiladas mole. Mere minutes after I place my order the server tells me I need to pay me immediately so he can close out the afternoon shift. He then asks me to give him a cash tip. Already INSANELY unprofessional. After I pay is sure her returns to tell me that since the bill didn't close on his end, it means the transaction didn't go through. I give him my card to pay again. When he returns, I checked my statements and see that two charges have been made on my account from the restaurant and I inform him as much. This man argues with me for ten minutes, attempting to give me ever excuse in the book for to explain why I'm wrong. No apologies, no I'll look into that for you. He even attempted to tell me that the charge was reimbursed on my end. (It was absolutely not and he made no attempt to do so). After 10 minutes of arguing he tells me he will give the manager my information. Throughout this interaction the was kitchen Bell was furiously dinging in the background. First he brings out my chips and salsa. The chips (which were clearly tostitos) looks like a collection of the most crumbled chips from the bottom of the bag. The salsa container was about 1/4 full and ice cold. My main dish was pretty pathetic. The pork inside was decent but the extra charge I paid for mole got me two diarrhea stains on top of my two enchiladas. Enchiladas are typically swimming in sauce. Before leaving my server returned to argue with me once more about my bill and then I was on my way. With so many restaurants struggling to stay open in the DMV right now I am shocked that this place has been able to stay open.
There are dozens of excellent Mexican restaurants in Northern Virginia. This is not one of them. Our food took over an hour to come out, and usually everything tastes good when you're hungry, but I guess I wasn't hungry enough. This was Taco Bell quality food served cold at Old Town prices. If you're craving Mexican, I strongly recommend Helena's or El Paso.
Great location, terrible everything else. Margaritas taste like luke warm, sugary, bath tub tequila sludge. Chips are stale, portions are small, prices are really high, slow service. Just bad. Always dead despite good location so I don’t know why I’m surprised.
Service is mid, Don’t plan on coming unless you want to be disappointed the food here is claiming to be Mexican cuisine but in my opinion it’s far from it. We ordered nachos which we weren’t explained to by staff that it’s 8 chips with cheese and your choice of protein at your liking ($16)the portion is small; besides that the appetizer was good for entrees we got the 3 meat fajita (chicken, shrimp and beef) for ($26) I expected at least 5 pieces of shrimp and more chicken and steak my girlfriend ordered the al pastor tacos ($18)and she stated that the meat was bland like it’s unseasoned and cooked well done when tacos should be juicy and succulent. If you plan on coming here plan on having drinks here and going to eat next door; I am greatly disappointed in los cuates for claiming to be a good Mexican restaurant. I Don’t blame the staff in the front of house but regarding service you need to introduce yourself to your table so they know who to call and treat everyone equal im Hispanic and feel like I was not taken serious in my dining experience. But for the white people in the restaurant they had a bottle of water on all of there table offered chips as I had to ask for everything.
Service was extremely slow. Food and drinks definitely not worth the wait. Margaritas were not good. Food was cold, small portions and had no flavor. We couldn't find anything positive to say about our dining experience. If you have a craving for Mexican food I would recommend finding another place to eat.
