Came back here for dinner with friends, and it’s still as wonderful as I remembered. The food was excellent—the beef carpaccio was incredibly fresh, and the veal and mushroom pasta were delicious. The only tiny thing is that the place is quite cozy/intimate—with four of us at the table, it was a bit of a squeeze to fit all our plates! One of the waitresses has been there for 30 years; she even knew the name of a dog walking past the window! It’s that kind of personal touch that makes this restaurant a true Palo Alto gem!
We enjoyed this restaurant so much for the food, the people, the atmosphere, all the way around. We had such a great time and really enjoyed ourselves in Palo Alto by finding this beautiful piece of Italy on the corner in the right place, not pretentious with great wine, it was just right!
Had a wonderful meal last night here with friends. All four of us enjoyed our entrees so much we each asked others to try them. Tiramisu and Affogato were equally delicious. Paid the bill and strolled back to the car in the underground lot across the street. While driving back to the street level we saw the Maître d’ standing near the exit with my credit card which I had forgotten! I’m heading out on a 7 week vacation in a couple of days! Losing the card would have been a nightmare!
Osteria in Palo Alto delivers outstanding food paired with warm, attentive service. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared, with fresh ingredients and authentic flavors. The staff is knowledgeable, welcoming, and makes the dining experience relaxed, memorable, and consistently enjoyable.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Unforgettable 35th Wedding Anniversary at Osteria Palo Alto We celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary this evening at Osteria Palo Alto, and they truly made it an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The food, wine, and desserts were absolutely amazing, but what made the evening extra special was the outstanding service. Violet was simply exceptional—friendly, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable. Every recommendation she made was spot-on. We honestly could not have asked for a better person to guide us through such a meaningful evening. Her service was truly number one. The entire staff made us feel so welcomed and cared for—it felt genuinely special to be there. And can we talk about the food? The bread basket was the BEST, hands down. And the lava cake… OMG, absolutely delicious! I could honestly go on all night about how wonderful the food, service, and atmosphere were. Osteria Palo Alto has officially become my new favorite Italian restaurant, and we cannot wait to come back. Thank you to Violet and everyone at Osteria Palo Alto for making our anniversary so memorable. It meant more to us than you know. ❤️🍷🇮🇹
Great food & service! The Fall Specials had so many great seasonal options too. Cappelletti di Zucca were buttery and super flavorful. The braised beef was tender and would simply melt away in your mouth!
We came here on a packed evening, and even though the restaurant was completely full, the service was attentive and thoughtful the entire time. The staff made us feel genuinely cared for and even split our shared pasta onto separate plates without us asking (see photo!). The food was delicious across the board. The squid ink pasta had deep, rich flavors without being fishy at all. I had a Malbec that paired beautifully with the meal, and it was just as good as the food. We finished with tiramisu, which was light, creamy, and sweet. All the servers were warm and friendly, and the atmosphere was buzzing with regulars, families, and tech folks in town for an event. It was lively and loud in a fun, energetic way that made the whole experience feel joyful. Highly recommend.
Good combination of traditional and a bit more adventuresome options. Desserts made in house. I had a delicious autumn salad and very tasty pasta dish with sun dried tomatoes. It was easy to have a conversation and the waitress was very observant and attentive without being in the way. Wonderful food and atmosphere. I was concerned about parking, but there was a lot conveniently just across the street, and a passenger loading zone right in front for anyone who can’t walk far.
The food was excellent. I also like the old New York Italian American Aesthetic they had going on. Everything was well made and I can tell they put lots of time into each dish. The quality was also really good. The portions were great as well. Our waiters Alex and Jaime were both very helpful, kind, and funny. They really made the experience better especially with their jokes and charm. This has to be the best restaurant I’ve been to in Palo Alto and Menlo Park, and I’ve been to many restaurants around here.
Osteria Toscana in downtown Palo Alto was a fine experience enjoying pleasant Italian food. We got started with the complimentary bread which was freshly baked and easy to chew. The pasta I ordered (forgot the name but it's like a lasagna dish and fully vegetarian) was incredible, from the sauce and cheese to the flavors in the pasta and the portion size was generous. Our server, Jorge, was fantastic from start to finish, checking on us regularly and getting our orders out quite quickly. This is definitely on the pricier side, but it's worth it for the food and ambience. Parking is a bit tricky but in addition to street parking there's a garage a couple blocks away with free parking. Highly recommend this place.
Tortellini alla Panna 5 beef filled pasta dumplings, prosciutto, cream, peas, creamy, flavorful Caprese Con Mozzarella Di Bufala 4 three pieces, tomato slice with mozzarella slice on top, fresh basil, oregano, aged balsamic, olive oil, light, refreshing Lasagna 4 baked layered pasta, beef and pork meat sauce, mushroom, besciamella / white cream sauce, cheese (ricotta, fresh mozzarella, parmigiano), cheesy, tomato sauce flavor
We had a small birthday celebration at Osteria and it did not disappoint. The Insalata Osteria and Casear salads were outstanding and the Ravioli perfect. We also had the Grilled Salmon. The atmosphere is very authentic and friendly. I gave 4 stars given the service was a bit slow on a slow night.
Such an amazing place to eat pasta and catch up with friends. I was in San Francisco for a quick visit. I'm glad I said I was craving Italian because we ended up here! The service was amazing, everything was taken care of at the speed of light and with a smile. The bread you're served at the beginning of the meal is simply wonderful, I would go back just for that beautiful crunchy gold-looking bread. The food was really delicious, I had the mezza Luna which was good but the best thing was the pasta bolognesa with tons sauce and flavor. For dessert we had the nocciola flan and affogato, probably the biggest affogato I've ever had. Not only that but it's served with the softest most delicious vanilla ice cream. I have to say, I think the affogato was the highlight of my evening. If your looking for good Italian food in the area, this is your spot!
The pasta was okay. Maybe it was because I have high expectations before coming so I was a bit disappointed. There are not much protein in the pasta. And I still felt very hungry after eating a plate of pasta, two pieces of sourdough bread. (We even ordered a second plate of sourdough bread and it cost $4) and I drank a lot of water to feel less hungry. The server didn’t fill up my water after I finished it. I waited for 20 mins and then asked him to fill it up. FYI They charge you for a living wage fee of 5% before tax.
We came for Mother’s Day and were seated promptly. As a starter, they offered us sourdough bread, which was very crunchy and paired with an exquisite olive oil, such a nice touch. For the main dishes, we had the spinach ravioli, which tasted good, but wasn’t my favorite. I ordered the lasagna, and it had great flavor, really enjoyed it. Kyle, our server, was very sweet and funny, and made the experience even better.
This is a well established Italian restaurant that offers authentic food. We had a very friendly server and she was very professional. There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Personally, I think inside of the restaurant needs some remodeling. It looks tired and outdated. However, the food was delicious.
The food and service here were outstanding. First they serve you a half a loaf of sliced sourdough bread with olive oil and chopped olives. The menu is extensive with pastas and assorted anti-pasta dishes. The wait staff is very friendly and accommodating as is the host. I had the poached salmon And steamed diced tomatoes with cream spinach. On the side of the plate was the young corn and beans cooked to perfection in butter and garlic. I would’ve tried one of their decrement desserts but the only place I could put it was in my pocket. I don’t give five stars because that indicates that it’s absolutely perfect with no room for improvement. Although this is as close to perfection as you can get.
Total Score: 5.40 Bathroom: 3/5 Sink was a bit icky Customer Service: 3.5/5 Very friendly but hard to get their attention. Also food lowkey took a long time to get out Ambiance: 4/5 Fancy tablecloth restaurant vibes Food: 2.5/5 Was okay. The bruschetta was disappointing i was hoping for thicker bread and more oil and cheese. The pasta was fair. Gave plenty of cheese and I liked the one in the middle (forgot the name of it). But wasn’t anything particularly good about it Wow: 0/1 Normal Italian restaurant Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW
