Fabulous time!! Chef Naoto was awesome. He was really fun to interact with. He served some of best omakase sushi we have had. Definitely in the top 5 of my experiences. That includes omakase in Tokyo, Osaka and Boston's O Ya.
best japanese restaurant in NYC! love the mushrooms, sushi sashimi platter, and buckwheat tea. the most wonderful team and atmosphere
4.9/5 experience as I'm a simple customer with 3 requirements: clean bathroom, good food, good value. 1) I rate NYC establishments by their bathroom. Cleanliness is the baseline, the bare minimum, which they were. No paper towels on floor or grungy floors/walls. In Hasaki's case the Japanese style HEATED TOILET on a cold wintry day was the winner. Automatic return location for me based on the bathroom experience. 2&3) Tried the Restaurant Week $45 menu and the Madako Yuzu (app), Hasaki Nigiri (entree), and black sesame cannoli (dessert). Great value and purposeful portions that filled me up by the end of the entree. Standout flavors for me were the kasugo (a delicious seasonal fish I'd never tried before) nigiri, eel nigiri, and salmon nigiri. The ginger was also pickled well. Fresh & zesty. My friend got the matcha creme brulee while I got the black sesame cannoli. It was a fragrant combo of black sesame + azuki & something about the cannoli shell enhanced the filling - I can't put my finger on it. Staff was also super nice, greeting & goodbye'ing with coat check. They were friendly & informative when we had questions, & gave us a complimentary miso soup that reminded me of Chinese Sweet & Sour Soup. Will be back again one day!
Exceptional sushi at a very approachable price! The $96 omakase includes 12 pieces of nigiri, one hand roll, and an appetizer, plus a chef-made dessert and Japanese tea—an incredible value. The quality of the rice and fish is outstanding, with the sayori, mackerel, and marinated tuna being especially memorable. Warm service and a comfortable atmosphere make this an easy place to enjoy truly great sushi. Highly recommended!
We had an amazing experience at Hasaki with the Counter Omakase Experience by Chef Naoto Isoda. The chef’s selection of twelve pieces of sushi, including a fatty tuna roll, featured beautifully sourced premium fish. The Ōtoro and Chūtoro were absolute highlights , rich, buttery, and perfectly balanced. We also added the Caviar & Hokkaido Uni supplement, a handroll with Hokkaido sea urchin paired with premium caviar, and it was truly a standout, luxurious, fresh, and unforgettable. An intimate, refined omakase experience with exceptional quality throughout. A perfect spot for birthdays and anniversaries, and definitely a place we’d return to again.
Hands down the best sushi I’ve had and I grew up in Japan and visit enough. Everything from the preparation, taste, pace of the omakase, the chef’s explanation and easy conversations, his technique, the music, the interior design, everything was spectacular. Omakase menu features seasonal fish and I had some sushi that I’ve never had before but enjoyed each piece. I just wish I was able to drink some sake with them since my neighbor told me the sushi really pairs well with the sake they had!
Great omakase. Very sweet chef who you could tell loves what he does. He had several regular customers return during our seating and I could see why. Seasonal dishes amidst sushi courses were incredible and some of the best ginger I’ve ever had
Good Omakase experience and plenty of food (there are a few rolls I forgot to take pics for). We were sat at the side of the sushi bar and the chef was able to keep track of 2-3 staggered groups and serve them the corresponding pieces. Thers was complimentary app, tea and small dessert too, you can also add more but we were pretty full by the end.
I’ve been coming to Hasaki since 2002. There have been changes lately, but honestly the menu is still great, and some things are better. The sushi is perfectly done. The apps hot or cold are all delicious. Service is super friendly and solid. Highly recommend it
We got the $96pp omakase which included an eggplant amuse bouche, 12 pieces of nigiri, an otoro and uni hand roll, clam miso soup, and dessert. The fish was impeccably fresh—each piece melted in the mouth and showcased the finest seasonal selections. The chef’s artistry and precision were on full display with every piece. The miso soup was a bit salty but the clams were cooked well. The mango dessert was a perfect way to end the meal. The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend this place for a great omakase experience!
Absolutely one of the most delicate and thoughtfully curated Omakase experiences in NYC, with a good price. Unlike many others, here I can truly feel the connection between each of the 12 courses (which I think is because of yuzu). All pieces flow together with a gentle, intentional rhythm. The freshness is top-notch, especially the chutoro and uni, which melted slowly in my mouth. The meal ends perfectly with a light Japanese cheesecake topped with cherry jelly, served with Japanese hot tea (3 options). I was so immersed. Plus, the calm, spacious interior adds to the overall experience. A true hidden gem for those who appreciate subtlety and craft.
Hasaki holds a special place in my heart. It was the first Japanese run restaurant I've been to in lower Manhattan. During the mid 90's my ex boss took me there so that we can talk about my raise which I don't remember if I got or not, but what was memorable was the food and atmosphere itself. I've taken those who I consider close friends to eat there. Up until last week, I haven't been back in 20 years or so? The decor was different yet, the same owner, and same inviting warm atmosphere with an updated interior. I went for the Omakase and was thoroughly pleased. Will definitely be going back more often now. Straight up, the food is excellent as is the service. I've been to many Japanese restaurants within thr 5 boroughs, and Hasaki is the only place that serves a delicious dark miso soup, unlike anything I've had anywhere else. I am glad they kept this tradition.
Hands down the best omakase I’ve been to in the city for the price point. 12 courses with a soup and two desserts for less than $100. Meticulous attention to detail, professionalism, and dedication to service. Excellent location to fit into a night out with friends as well. Two friends from high school and I arrived in torrential rain and the host met us with towels at the door. Halfway through the meal we realized the chef had been watching us as we sat down and arranged our chopsticks and ginger based on our dominant hand. Little things like this made it clear how important our comfort was to the staff. Things like that go a long way. Intimate and warm setting with extremely attentive staff. I would like to return soon to try their al la carte options. Good beer and wine list, excellent sake selection. The 12 course meal featured amazing fresh fish, several of which were new to me after going to many omakases in the city. The torched pieces were done seared delicately in a way that enhanced the fish. In the past, I have found that being too liberal with the torch can leave a butane aftertaste which was not the case at Hasaki. Will certainly be back soon.
We visited this restaurant for dinner, spending $215 including tips. Our meal included sushi plates, Maki, miso soup, and a unique foamy soup. The staff impressed us with their exceptional manners and friendliness. A highlight was their high-tech toilet with various buttons – quite amusing. Additionally, we appreciated the inclusion of Grüner Veltliner on their wine list.
Phenomenal quality. Each omakase dish was incredibly creative and fulfilling. Each piece was distinct from the last - had us captivated by the very first dish. The price was extremely reasonable. The atmosphere was very thought out, down to the checkbooks. Definitely go for the omakasae option when ordering.
Gourmet sushi at a reasonable price! Fish tasted so fresh and flavorful! Reminded me of the now shuttered Tomoe. The Chirashi Omakase was so good, although at $55 it was a little steeply priced. The supplemental rolls I ordered were great, as was the cod! The Sake was also yummy and sitting at the sushi bar further enhanced the dining experience. Overall I rate this spot 4.5 stars due to the price-value proposition (a little expensive), but will give them 5 stars for the review because it was a good time at an up-and-coming restaurant.
Service is excellent. Staff are all friendly, attentive, and courteous. Food: Grilled black cod with red miso is yummy. Otoro is a bit disappointing. It is a bit chewy. Scallop, uni and eels are fantastic. Handroll is disappointing too. The seaweed wrap is not crunchy and the bottom part is moisted.
A nice traditional sushi restaurant, with lovely service and good food. I had the chirashi Omakase which had nice rice and a good selection of premium fish, although some of the pieces were a bit small. I also had the grilled yellow tail should that was well cooked, big and tasty. Overall, a nice place with good food. I’ll be back.
Food is the priority for me, and unfortunately it wasn't good. I got the nigiri and was very disappointed to find that the fish was very stale, in particular, the fish roe which had an unpleasant, tough exterior. Sadly, wouldn't dine here again despite a nice setting and good service.
Overall 3.5/5 Food 3/5 Service 4.5/5 Ambiance 4.5/5 Hasaki's $96 Omakase is a great value, encompassing 12 pieces of nigiri, along with chawanmushi, soup, vegetables, and dessert. The experience itself was great made up by the the service since they were very attentive, and the ambiance was perfect, ideal for a date night since they never rush you. A standout moment was their thoughtful gesture of comping the dessert for my friend's birthday. The only noticeable drawback was the sushi itself, I felt the fish could have been fresher overall. Despite that, I was surprised and impressed to learn this restaurant is a sister establishment to Cha An and Hi Collar
Waited over an hour to get our food, still had more coming but we decided to get cancel and get the check. Seared tuna was good, sauce was too salty. Sushi was alright, felt overpriced for how it was. The wasabi was good, had a hint of sweetness to it.
