One of the best meals I've ever had in Los Angeles. The food is all homemade and you can taste the love in every taco. The queso is a must order!! Pairs perfectly with any taco and a cold margarita. The staff is also friendly and helpful - can't wait to go back again!!
The tacos are great and the staff is wonderful.. special shout out to Juan. Best frozen margarita I’ve found around LA. But I like to get 1/2 margarita and 1/2 spicy paloma to balance the sweetness of the marg with a great spice. I always get the band taco, Tijuana Panther. My only ask is if they had salsa to go with their chips instead of taco sauce.
Clean, healthy, nutritious and delicious tex mex. Above all phenomenal customer service and staff.
Legit Tex-Mex. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Choose any taco(s) you'd like, add some chips and queso, wash it down with your margarita. Go ahead and change your area code to 713 while you're at it. Your HomeState is now Texas. Cheers!
A great casual place that doesn't try to be trendy. The service is great and the mango habanero is amazing! Pretty 🔥
Loved HomeState. The restaurant was clean, helpful staff, and delicious food. We went on a sunny day and chose to sit inside but loved the experience. I would recommend and I would eat here again.
Absolutely love coming to this place. The parking lot is a tad small, but I always go when the crowds aren't so bad. The brisket anything is the best! And the Trinity taco is always my next pick. Try the crispy potatoes, you won't regret it. The cashier heard it was my birthday and gifted me with a super yummy cookie. This place has become a regular lunch spot for friends and I when we are at work.
This place is a favorite of ours. The food is always fresh and delicious. I always get the Trinity tacos and my husband the panther and the chicken! You cannot go wrong!
Being from Central Texas, having brisket and egg tacos (not burritos) is like, well, home away from Texas!😄 While the brisket lacks the smoked flavor of a central Texas post oak or live oak wood, it’s sufficient to quell the longing of anything brisket based. I miss Rudy’s, Salt Lick, Inman’s, Coopers and Opies but Homestate will help! 🤠🙌👌
My daughter & husband recently moved back from Texas, and they were looking for a place for breakfast tacos...this is the place! After watching/listening to LAist, with Austin Cross, and watchinv a live feed on the food,; our plans were set...the next morning(Saturday); we packed up the family and drove an hour to get here. We loved everything! The tacos, the queso, the vibe, the service ...everything was delicious, and affordable, as well. We will definitely be coming back to one of their locations. We all highly recommend this spot, for wonderful food, at a good value point.
Friendly staff. Accommodating when I make large orders for staff luncheons. Consistent quality. Delicious. Worth the cost. Only drawback is the microscopic, hazardous parking lot, but that's all remedied if you just park across the street.
The food is always delicious and filling - the staples on their menu are very strong and their new offerings are compelling and delicious. It’s always a struggle to figure out what to order, but the good news is that at the end of that “struggle” you will always be very satisfied.
Very friendly staff. Excellent tacos (the only thing I've gotten, but over time, I've tried most of the tacos), AND excellent margaritas. Also good value
Good tacos, black beans are delicious to . I usually don't like them anywhere. They also have fresh tortillas to buy. I wish they would have fans in the outdoor patio.
Met some friends here who are moving to another state. There were 8 of us and the food and atmosphere were great!
Super cute spot and super friendly staff, food was good and the frozen marg, even better. Love the outdoor seating, adds a very nice vibe.
SO good. Unique and delicious tacos. The queso and guac is also on point, and the frozen drinks (think adult slushies...) are quite tasty. Good atmosphere too. Highly recommended.
Very friendly greeting easy flow of transaction and great seating outside. Had the brisket tacos, chicken tacos, and the lonestar. The chicken was really tender and the brisket was really delicious. Will definently come back again and my mother really loved the cold brew cookie milk
Our go to spot with our kids. Delicious food and great atmosphere. Parking can be a little tough but there’s plenty of street parking in the neighboring areas.
It was my first time to visit this location. Their food and service were awesome! Surprisingly, even their restrooms were pretty clean with the diaper change station! Parking spaces are limited, but you could park on the street. The restaurant still got some open seats when we arrived around 12pm. It got really crowded around 1pm while the restaurant was already packed with people. It is worth giving it a try and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family as well.
This has quickly become a regular spot for us and friends. We go several times a month. The potato tacos are a MUST and I really enjoy the Frito Chili Pie as well. Menu is pretty simple but solid which is great. What they do, they do well. Their outdoor sitting area is wonderful and a great place to enjoy a Margherita or a cold beer with your food.
i never leave reviews but this has been so wonderful i had to!! all the staff went out of their way to welcome me in. The patio was adorable. The food came out so quickly, and was delicious (and i moved here from texas!) highly recommend :)
The menu is very simple yet unique. Very well done. Yummy flavors. Loved that they had an item named Chicano Batman. I love that band. The drinks were a surprise and loved the idea of mixed drinks for lunch. The atmosphere is fresh. It’s homey and comfy. The service is quick and friendly. The decor makes it feel like I want to come back to this place and recommend hence my review. Parking is tight. The overflow is at the adjacent street. The little area shares its spot with a coffee shop Ive yet to visit. All in all I have heard so much about this place and it did not let me down. I’m making it a go to for sure.
Spicy frozen paloma was really good. Just strong enough, not too weak nor too strong. Food was really yummy, I love their brisket tacos. Loaded queso was good too. The workers were so kind too! They were constantly going around asking if anyone needed anything else. Love this place. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the guac because it has a lot of lime, but I know some people like that. Definitely coming back!
We love coming here for our growing family. It’s super fun, trendy and ridiculously good flavors. We have only ever sat on the patio and the fact that it gets so busy but you don’t have to go up to the register every time where there are a couple food runners who also have the ability to take your order at the table for additional purchases, makes it so much more smooth than many places who miss out on this ideal for sure! Tacos were great and that cookie is fire. The new beef taco is my favorite.
Love the Highland Park location so I was stoked that this one opened a few blocks from where I live. They’ve only been open a few days but they already emulate the quality and service of the Homestate in Highland Park. Great tacos, queso, and of course the frozen margaritas are top notch.
Don’t bother looking at more restaurants, this is the place you NEED to go to. The tacos are so delicious and flavorful. The salsas are PRIME. All the staff here are so kind, this is undoubtedly one of my favorite restaurants and absolutely my number one for tacos! The flavors are distinct and tasty and man I want more now that I keep talking about em
It's tex-mex. That's the genre. So when you find cheddar on your taco, know that it's supposed to be there.
This is their best location! The food here is amazing, best meal of 2025 by FAR!
Emmy was the sweetest, they made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. It was moderately busy but they still refilled my water, checked to see if the food was good, etc. Juan, also. They seemed genuinely happy to be there
The staff here is so friendly and attentive! On one of the two occasions I’ve been, the gentlemen who I assume is the manager saw me trying to clean a stain off my shirt and offered some sparkling water to help (and it did)! The food is delicious and consistent. I enjoyed the Ft. Worth and Tijuana Panther tacos. Great spot
HomeState Pasadena may have the best service we've seen in a long time for a restaurant without table service. The order taker/cashier was great. And the staff was beyond friendly and helpful, among other things, insisting on refilling our iced teas (which is awesome)!
Pretty yummy food here. Homestate is a Tex-Mex restaurant located in Pasadena, California, known for its all day breakfast options that draw inspiration from the cuisine of Texas and Mexico. One of the most popular breakfast items at Homestate is the breakfast tacos, which come in a variety of options, including bacon, egg, and cheese; chorizo and egg; and potato, egg, and cheese. The tacos are made with freshly-made tortillas and are served with delicious salsa. If you dine in like we did, they'll give you an entire bottle to use so you don't have to worry about using up small little containers that go in the trash. The restaurant's interior is designed to reflect a Tex-Mex vibe, with colorful murals, wooden accents, and a lively atmosphere. The service is friendly and attentive, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food. Overall, Homestate in Pasadena is a great spot for those looking for a unique and delicious breakfast experience. The restaurant's blend of Texas and Mexican flavors is executed perfectly, and the quality of the ingredients shines through in every dish. A little pricey, but still a nice option that should please everyone at your table.
HomeState has become our mainstay. They worked with World Kitchen after the Eaton Firestorm and served us folks who'd been affected for breakfast and lunch, most days. We'd visited before the fire, but it was afterward that really caused us to fall in love. We've not had anything on the menu we didn't just love. Try the Tijuana Panther!
Me & my wife were in Pasadena to shoot footage for a documentary on Devils Gate Dam and came across this place about a mile away! So glad we did! We here hot & tired and not too hungry but this place is great! The Iced Tea was sweet & cold! The Lonestar Migas is fire. They were quik & friendly! The Migas are fire! We will definitely make the drive from Simi Valley to try more of the menu & will definitely make sure to bring bigger appetites. I wanna try all the tacos and the Frito Pie.
Came here after a morning bike ride with some buddies. We chose it because it was close to the trailhead and had great reviews. They have a small parking lot but we were easily able to find street parking. Right away we were greeted with an open airy dining area and kitchen. The staff were all friendly and helpful. One buddy ordered the ranch salad with a side of carnitas. I ordered three different tacos to try all their vegetarian options: the Maxine, emo, and potato. All were good. By far my favorite was the Maxine. It had shitake mushrooms, black beans, avocado, caramelized onions, tortilla strips, and on their signature flour tortilla. Next time I m getting three of these. I got all my tacos on flour tortillas based on the cashier's recommendation and they were awesome. The tortillas were a great base for any taco.
Delicious Tex-mex at a very favorable price point. Informal with a very casual atmosphere. Limited cocktails and beer. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious and servings are generous. Fairly fast service once you have ordered.
The food was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try some of the other offerings. I loved everything about the food, kitchen staff, design of the space, choices in the furnishings and wares, and cleanliness of the spaces. The slight discomfort I felt was with the cashier's ability to fulfill the drink orders; I had to remind the cashier, one by one, on each of the drinks we had ordered. I was a bit stressed when there was opposition to my reminders. As if I would make up untruths regarding if I ordered a Coke. Anyway, I didn't let it spoil my experience. Beautiful place!
From the very first bite, HomeState’s chicken tacos prove why they’ve become such a standout on the menu. They strike a rare balance between comforting familiarity and inventive flair, offering something that feels both authentically Tex-Mex and uniquely HomeState. Flavor The chicken is tender and perfectly seasoned — juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right so that it almost melts into the tortilla. Instead of being overwhelmed with spice or smoke, the flavor profile leans toward a subtle, layered richness: savory notes from the marinade, a hint of citrus brightness, and just the right amount of seasoning to let the quality of the chicken itself shine through. Every bite feels intentional, crafted to satisfy without being heavy-handed. Tortillas The foundation of any good taco is the tortilla, and HomeState treats it with the respect it deserves. Their house-made flour tortillas are soft, warm, and slightly chewy with that fresh-off-the-griddle aroma that makes you pause before taking the first bite. It’s the kind of tortilla that doesn’t just hold the fillings together — it elevates them. Toppings and Balance What sets these tacos apart is the harmony of the toppings. Fresh cilantro, crisp onions, and a balanced salsa all work in concert rather than competing for attention. The toppings provide a brightness and crunch that play beautifully against the juicy chicken. The salsa has a touch of heat, but it’s restrained — enough to wake up the palate without overpowering the dish. Atmosphere and Experience Eating a HomeState chicken taco feels like being invited to a casual backyard gathering in Texas. There’s an authenticity to the flavors that tells a story, but it’s also approachable for anyone. They’re comfort food, but comfort food at its best: thoughtful, precise, and made with care. Final Thoughts HomeState’s chicken tacos aren’t just “good tacos.” They’re the kind of tacos you crave days later, the kind you’d happily bring out-of-town guests to try, knowing they’d walk away impressed. They manage to capture the soul of Tex-Mex while offering something distinctly their own. Whether you’re a taco traditionalist or someone just dipping your toes into the world of great tacos, these deserve your attention. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Easily a five-star taco experience.
Dedicated parking lot if youdon’t look up- they have a large billboard. Entrance to the restaurant and lot has black gates up front. Kind of tight fitting so we parked right outside for street parking. Food was delicious! Tacos are big- I ordered 2 and only ate 1.5 along the chips & dip. You can never go wrong with the chips & dip- it’s a must!! Plus unlimited chips so get the large size dip! Nice assortment of teas, coffee, and boozy drinks! I will come back for lunch or dinner to get their slushy Maragarita or Paloma! Looks amazing Lots of outdoor seating! With heat lamps and umbrellas!! Service is beyond amazing! When we went, there as a great guy who was super friendly and quick! As of 12/27/21- they don’t have indoor seating and check for verification of vaccination.
Great tacos, homemade tortillas, and good drinks. I'll definitely go back to check out more of the menu.
It’s always nice stopping by HomeState after our 14-hour nonstop flight from Asia — it has become our go-to lunch spot the next day. My son looks forward to the potato soft taco and his favorite loaded queso dip with homemade tortilla chips, which are always a hit. I went with the ranch salad and a side of beef. It leaned a little salty, but still flavorful overall. Service began on a high note. One staff member, with glasses and a tall beard, was especially attentive — checking in on us, refilling chips, and even bringing a bag and lids for our leftovers. That extra thoughtfulness went a long way and was much appreciated by my family and especially our little one. Unfortunately, I also had a less positive interaction with another staff member (I believe his name was Rico or similar). When I asked if it might be possible to add just a dab of queso to balance the saltiness of the beef — something I was happy to pay extra for — his response was abrupt: “We can’t add queso to that.” What left a poor impression wasn’t just the refusal, but what followed. I noticed him whispering and smirking with other staff behind the counter while glancing in my direction with us . Sitting directly in front of the open kitchen, this felt uncomfortable and disrespectful being made fun of in plain view. When I addressed it, he acted surprised and dismissive, which only reinforced the negative experience. At this point, we felt very self-conscious, alienated, quite undermined how my request was handle and we quickly and quietly packed our food in the to-go bag provided and left the establishment. To be clear, I don’t intend this as knock of HomeState as a whole. We’ve had many wonderful meals here, and most of the team has always been warm and welcoming all the time and super family friendly. But I do believe this particular staff member could benefit from some additional training in customer interaction and professionalism. Guests should walk away feeling appreciated, not ridiculed, over a simple request but instead walk away with the kind of positive experience that usually makes HomeState such a special place for us.
The ingredients tasted fresh and thoughtfully selected. The chef’s creativity truly shines.
The presentation of the food was beautiful. Each bite was delicious and satisfying.
If you’re from Texas and you’re living in Cali and you miss those really good tacos that are in places like San Antonio, then this place is for you. I was very homesick and the burritos just don’t do it for me. So was so happy to find some tacos like these. Overall, the tacos here are just as good as those back in Texas. They are simply excellent and so tasty. Love this place.
Incredible staff and vibes!! What a treasure to to the community. Generous portions. Delicious and fresh. Had the Emo and Chicano Batman tacos. Fantastico!!!! Mucho Gracias
Not cheap but the tacos are so good if you're looking more for Texmex than Mexican street tacos. The guac was super good, very lime-y. The beef taco was my favorite. The crispy potatoes were fantastic and what I wish all fries were like. Don't sleep on the chocolate chip cookie with salt! The home made sauces are a good addition to the tacos. Everyone that works here is very friendly. The outdoor space is so nice and the staff are super friendly! No line when we came around 6:30 but there was a small line when we left.
Ahhh quesoooo - REAL Texas queso - finally!!! As a native Texan in the LA area for almost 15 years now, I’ve scoured SoCal in search of a decent queso and never really had much luck until my Yelp friends told me about Homestate! The queso is legit - creamy with an excellent balance of cheese and peppers/onions etc and savory smooth flavor! And their breakfast tacos are lovely too. Queso is a big deal in Texas - you’ll find it on every menu in every Mexican restaurant and even in restaurants that don’t serve Mexican food! It’s a heavenly dip made of cheese and peppers and sometimes various meats get thrown in. For Texans, queso is a comfort food. So when I moved to LA, it was definitely one of the (very) few things I missed about Texas bc you just don’t see it on the menus here in LA. After hearing about this cute little spot from several Yelp friends, I finally came in for some breakfast tacos on Mother’s Day and had a great experience! The staff are so friendly and they even gave me a beautiful flower to celebrate the holiday! Excellent service! We tried the Blanco taco and the Trinity taco - both delicious. The Blanco taco is a veggie taco with eggs, cheese and mushrooms. Hubby loved it. My Trinity taco came with eggs, cheese, bacon, and potato. I loved it and would definitely get this again. They serve the tacos with two sauce options in bottles on the table - red and green. The green was fresh and mild and I loved it. The red is spicier and also decent. I especially loved that they discuss the ingredients and farms and suppliers they use on the menu - everything is truly homemade with minimal ingredients- and their homemade flour tortillas are just lovely. The owner is herself from Texas and it shows in her delectable Tex-Mex cuisine and the cozy, country, welcoming vibes! Prices are moderate and pretty standard for the area. They have an inside seating as well as a cute patio and a small parking lot (or free street parking). I’m absolutely thrilled to be able to grab some true Texas comfort food when I need it - I’ll definitely be back for more of that queso!!
You will love this place!! Texas temperature and Mexican flavor combined to create a California dream!! Hand made tortillas!! But the breakfast tacos won me over!! I had the trinity! Bacon, Eggs, Cheddar, and Potatoes with the green sauce!!!! So perfect The hibiscus limeade is a beautiful addition and the tangy aftertaste makes me want to drink more and more!! The service is incredible! Come by and try the other breakfast tacos!!
We went here on a Sunday morning around 9am and was pretty busy in outside seating but we got a spot. We got 7 tacos and a coffee and was almost $50, which we initially thought was pretty expensive but the tacos were pretty large and very filling. The tacos were really good, the salsas were also very tasty!
Great food great tucked away, restaurant that serves tacos, burgers, coffee and drinks and the service is also fantastic in Pasadena. I had a very good experience. The coffee tasted fantastic and the two tacos that I ordered were really tasty. I will definitely go back to eat there not out I found this place. A Big yes to recommending this place.
This is one of my favorite restaurants. Despite being a local chain, it feels like a hometown establishment. They support local issues and are established in the community. I appreciate that. Try the emos taco! It’s so simple, but it’s a special taco.
Homestate is an easy 5/5 for me. They more than deliver on their promise as their tacos are delicious. They are on the pricier side, but for me I find two tacos to be enough to satiate. My favorites so far have been the brisket, chicken, and Tijuana panther tacos. And if the deal couldn’t get any better, the staff are wonderful, with José being a standout star among them.
We stopped here after a visit to the Rose Bowl Flea Market and so glad we did. While we were initially disappointed they don’t serve breakfast burritos, the quality of the food more than made up for it. We started off with the Cookie Milk Cold Brew (OMG so good!) and the Hibiscus Limeade (very delicious). We each got a Guadalupe taco, a Quesadilla w/Organic Chicken (Spicy), Queso, Black Beans and Chips. Everything was outstanding - especially the Guadalupe taco’s - highly recommended. While we don’t get to Pasadena very often, we can’t wait to come back to eat here again. A+.
I went there for breakfast/lunch and the breakfast Trinity taco and Quesadilla. Both were very tasty, nice location too.

This is a great neighborhood spot! Favorite tacos include the Brisket, Trinity and Comal along with the breakfast potatoes and summertime tea. The service was great and the staff very friendly.
Great experience at Home State on Lincoln Ave! Jose and Sandra took great care of us! Very much appreciated the counter service and encouragement to wave us down if you want a second margarita (which I did). Migas with soyriso with flour tortillas is delicious. I can taste cilantro, paprika, and garlic. Tomatillo salsa is perfectly tart and spicy. Margaritas are refreshing and sweet. Thank you for bringing Texas hospitality to LA!
An ideal Mexican breakfast bank! There's all the right stuff here, eggs, seed oil free fries, delightful juices, and fun staff. We seven made a great time with flavor filed tacos and coffee from nextdoor. One easy recommendation, bright and tangy Arnold Palmer, tacos for days!
Tex Mex tacos are DEEEEE. BEEESSSTTT!!! 🌮 My only problem as of lately, noticing more pets , mainly dogs 🐶 on the inside of the dining room. I truly love pets, but not while eating indoors. There is an outdoor seating, which is no problem. Other than that…LOVE LOVE THIS PLACE.
Very tasty Mexican food with a Texan flair for slightly elevated prices. Excellent guacamole and soft brisket tacos. Also serves Mexican Coke.

Delicious Tex-mex at a very favorable price point. Informal with a very casual atmosphere. Limited cocktails and beer. Everything we tried on the menu was delicious and servings are generous. Fairly fast service once you have ordered.
Can't rate the food cause I didn't get any, however I really wanted to try a sandwich that I saw when I open this location on Google, looks like pulled pork but they don't serve sandwiches anymore, but they have tacos if anyone feels like having tacos for dinner, there are about 6 dollars each . I just got 2 cups with coffee for my coworkers, nothing special just plain coffee around 9 dollars both
Good news spot in the area for Tex/Mex style food. Surprising amount of parking. Staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. The brisket had a nice smokey flavor. The green sauce was hot enough for my tastes. The queso was good, but not rave worthy.
Service: 5/5 The guy at the counter was very helpful and asked relevant questions to what I said I wanted. Food: 4/5 I only had the brisket sandwich. It was very good! The bread could have used abit more "toast" to them :) Interior/cleanliness: 4/5 Would recommend! Going there again! Their veggie/vegan options were nice too!
I came North of LA to check out descanso gardens and ended up here on a nice Friday afternoon. I love the decor as you walk in, it feels both inviting and modern with its own unique style added in. Best I can describe it as trendy. I ended up getting a brisket taco and a chicken taco, along with just the small queso and chips on the side. Let me say, some of the best queso I've ever had! It was just enough smokiness with the warmth of the cheese that it paired beautifully with the tortilla chips they had. The tacos were also quite good. I did end up enjoying the chicken a little bit more than the brisket, I think the slaw inside paired better with the meat and it was just cooked slightly nice for the taco itself. I wish they didn't wrap it up in tin foil when delivering to you, as it made the tortilla a little soggy on the edges, but it definitely made me want to eat faster! Overall, fantastic place to hang out (they have cool outdoor seating) or just grab a quick bite while walking the streets.
Good 🥑. Got a little busy/hectic but not too wild. Park on the street because the lot is a tiny nightmare.
They aren’t breakfast burritos but breakfast tacos. They’re definitely not a burrito sized burrito but a taco size. That was a bit confusing but we got it. Some tacos are 3$ and others are more. Obviously the beans are less and the ones with the meat are more. It’s great for a small appetite. I usually share the different type of (baby) burritos they offer. My favorite would have to be the pork - brisket ones. Salsa and chips are pretty authentic. It’s def more Americanized but the food seems legitimately Texan -in other words Mexican and Texas had a baby and named it homestead :) you’re welcome They only have a type of ice coffee Add sugar and almond milk. Love the slushy alcoholic drinks too. Will have to come back and try the bigger dishes.

First off all the tortillas are amazing and to me that is what makes the tacos so good. however, my first experience has mixed reviews, the flavors of the tacos were good. temperature of the food was good but i my personal opinion is that the brisket alone was to fatty. I had the Frio pie with ground beef and it wasn't a hit for me. I wish it had more beef and i also wish it came with some nacho cheese. the quesadias were good. They don't offer any diet drinks beside unsweetened ice tea.
Great flavor and vibes, a little bit expensive but I guess it’s worth it! The salsa is not spicy at all but does have good flavor (They don’t have free chips)
Food was okay ish, the queso was flavorless like maybe needed a little salt and pepper. Tacos were great.
**** Update Though I appreciate the response to my original review, I did exactly as asked and emailed and have not received a response as of yet .... So unfortunate. ************" I struggle to write this review because until today they have been one of my favorite restaurants in Pasadena. The food is really great and I love the atmosphere. Unfortunately they really missed the mark today. We like to go between 5:00 and 5:30 during the week to take advantage of the great happy hour prices on Margaritas. Today it seemed unusually crowded and I guess they had a private party utilizing the patio. So the seating inside is limited but they were continuing to take orders even though there were no seats for people. They literally brought us our food out while we were still standing and waiting with other people ahead of us to have tables. They offered to put it under the heat lamp. No, thank you. And we decided the best thing was to take it to go. They did offer us a cookie. I guess they thought that would make things better. But actually having a plan is what would have made this better. They said it was last minute. Even last minute they should have been paying attention to the number of orders versus the number of seats available inside. That really seems pretty simple to me. It would have made the situation better if they would have just said they didn't have room for us right now or that we had to wait a little bit before we could order. I hope they figure that out for the future...
Friendly service and nice patio area. Casual dining with bench seating. Good, fresh food. The "brisket chili" is shredded brisket. Adult Margarita was premixed and tasted bottom shelf. Parking limited.
HomeState is very popular for brisket tacos and margaritas. The Lincoln Blvd location is no exception in terms of popularity. There might be a line out the door. You might wait 20minutes+ to order at the counter. You might not be able to sit anywhere inside or outside. People might be squatting on tables. Parents love to bring kids here and you might see entire large tables full of clothes with no one sitting there because the kids are playing outside. It can be a little frustrating if you just want to order, sit, and eat. Brisket tacos are a favorite but are expensive at about $8ea. Brisket loaded queso is good but also expensive for the size. Margarita and Paloma are homemade but my favorite is the Hibiscus Limeade (no alcohol) and comes with free refills. Small parking up front, another small lot on the side, but both are normally full. Street parking in the residential area. Tables are very minimalist no padding just metal and wood. Vegan and veggie options available. Homemade tortillas are quite good when warm. Your friends will want to go here for some reason.
I think this restaurant is an excellent addition to the neighborhood. It’s fun and festive. The tacos are delicious, but in the three times I’ve been there so far, they have been served cold. They individually wrapped them in foil and clearly they sit around for a while before they are served. They are also not cheap. But overall it’s a great place for lunch or breakfast.
Friendly staff. Inviting ambiance. Generous portions. But, the parking spaces are limited, and the food is just okay. However, I do like to stop by once in a while and get their refreshing Spicy Paloma, lemonade, and tacos because I enjoy their laid-back environment.

Well, I'm glad I finally tried Home State but I won't go again. I used to come here when it was Lincoln and I've always loved the location. It's still great atmosphere with a nice patio and a good indoor space. The coffee was good. Salsa was tasty. That's honestly all the positives - the tacos were surprisingly boring. Eggs, beans, cheese, meats. No wow in any of the ingredients and they were not exactly assembled in any creative way. We tried 4 kinds of breakfast taco plus their one kind of cookie and it was all kinda - meh. Sad contrast between the great surroundings... and these mediocre breakfast tacos, served fast food style.

The food is mediocre (if you like Texmex), but not good enough to endure the uncomfortable dining area. People seem to like this place, so I think they intentionally make it uncomfortable to encourage table turnover - they want to "feed 'em and street 'em." Minimal seating on hard wood benches. The WORST part of the experience is that they've jumped on this idiotic ideal of "you can't sit down until you've ordered." Someone, somewhere decided this was the most fair way to delineate tables (who decided this? who knows?), but it causes such chaos and stress that the pearl isn't worth the dive. Not to mention the insufficient parking... Not their fault, but it almost seems this place goes out of its way to create an atmosphere of inconvenience for the customer. I don't find the food good enough to deal with the poor dining experience, so our family avoids this place but for the occasional "to go" order.
I'll start of by say I would give it 3 stars because it is a well kept place and the chips and queso are pretty good, but we tried 3 of the tacos. Lack of flavor, texture and size for $5. Definitely can't justify it. If you are hungry, this is definitely not the place to go. You can eat much better food for the price. This is a place to hang out and snack.
Best presentation and atmosphere for the worst brisket you've ever had. I hate to say it but for the price, deserved a post. Queso is fine. Do not order the brisket. Microwaved watery flavorless shredded beef. My god that was too much money to be anything other than annoyed.
Place is honestly such a disappointment. Food is mid. Something that can easily be made at home and the prices are expensive. Go to a street taco vendor or make it at home yourself.
I'm sorry homestate. this food is horrible 53 dollars for 5 tacos 2 sodas and 1 cookie with no flavor 😢
