I had a really cool experience at this bar. It’s predominantly locally brewed beers from Austin or from Texas. They also offer a full menu from The Peached Tortilla just next door. The bar tender was an absolute gem. He was so helpful, happy to answer questions, and willing to let you try samples. If I find myself passing through Austin ever again this will be a regular spot for me. Good beer. Good food. Good company.
Friendliest staff, small selection of Local Brews. Kitchen Next Door is keeping the place alive. Cosy stop before your flight ✈️

We were there at 2pm on Monday, April 7/25. To counter some of the other reviewers, the young man at Hippies and Hops was super friendly and helpful to everyone including me. He saw me waiting next door at Peached Tortilla and asked me if I needed to place an order and he was able to do it for me. He was very helpful at the bar and provided excellent service to all of his patrons. I took off one star because the prices are really too high even for airport prices at $15++
A nice selection of local beers. They are kind of expensive but it’s an airport ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How the hell can you charge $15 for a take away domestic beer, while also charging a service and credit card fee before tip. Airports are a ripoff in general, but this is offensive.

Avoid this bar at all costs. Wine prices are 50% higher than the rest of the airport bars. $22 for 8oz glass of Ecco Domaine which is like an $8 bottle of Pinot Grigio in the stores. Total scam they don’t display prices either so you only find out when you check out.
Ordered the cheapest wine ( menu has no prices so you’re left to guess) and they just rung me up for $17!! The wine they served me is a $6 bottle. While I get that prices are escalated in airports, everyone else seems to be able to do it $3-6 cheaper. Man! I should have shopped around. Never going to any of their establishments. I don’t even want this wine now. And it is confirmed that you can get wine next door for $11. Just ridiculous.

No prices listed, credit card only—and they still charge a fee for using one. I paid nearly $34 for a bad canned cocktail with Tito’s added and a draft beer. The cocktail tasted cheap and unbalanced. No menu prices means you don’t realize how much of a ripoff it is until the check drops. Borderline exploitative. I’m sure they count on people not checking airport bar reviews because of limited options.
This food store is the most ridiculous place I have ever visited. Their customer attendants were super rude and unwelcoming! Above all, they are rejecting cash, a publicly recognized legal tender document duely approved by the United States of America! When has the US declared that cash should be rejected for business transactions? I can understand if large amount is rejected due to change issues. But for this store to reject legal tender, it is another cause for alarm!
$15+ dollar single beer. Absurd even for airport. No listed prices.
The bartender was a complete jerk. One glass of beer was $15. He charged the card before telling my husband the cost. He was not friendly and didn’t even look at him or talk to him. The exchange was less than 30 seconds. When my husband did not give a tip based on lack of service he said “thanks for your generosity”. Then he said it AGAIN when my husband walked by a second time. Unbelievable that people expect a tip when they did nothing and didn’t show basic customer service.
$20 for the signature cocktail, cherry limeade. 3oz of cherry flavored Tito’s and half a can of sparkling water. I pay less for an actual cocktail in NYC. Unless you’ve got a per Diem burning a hole in your pocket, take a pass.
I have never had such a bad customer service experience. We wanted a quick beer and lunch before our flight. We walked up to order and they said we couldn’t order off the breakfast menu. Okay. But then when we asked for an updated menu, they said they couldn’t give us one because they only had one. Obviously they were just being lazy and trying to get us not to order food. They were rude and obviously didn’t want us to be there. Don’t go here if you’re in the main terminal. If you spend your money anywhere else, you’ll probably have a better experience.
The (two) Chinese chicken tacos were mediocre at best, dry meat, the promised avocado absent, and the whole thing presented on stale tortillas in a card board “dine in” container when I specifically requested “to go.” Of course the price of $10 did not reflect the value in the least, but this is the airport and they have a pretty captive audience. The icing on the cake though, was the “bartender” John, who barely doing his job which only involved ringing up the food and handing over a can of beer, had the audacity to chide me for not giving him a tip that he apparently, by some miraculous delusion, believed he deserved just because he breathes. As many others have mentioned before me, this place is sub par, rude and overpriced
Lazy bartender keeps walking off and and checking her phone and when she had to take orders she was unenthusiastic about it. Might be a bad day but some pride in your work will go a long way.
BEWARE: one beer was $15.14. No prices listed. Beer was fine but shady business practice. Poured the beer then was shocked at what I saw on the check. Should have walked away lol
Wouldn't give this any stars if I could. Tried to ask the barman about beer and prices and was totally uninterested and rude to my wife. He was too interested in finding the right channel on the TV than helping us. At $10 to $12 for a pint of beer I expect service. Avoid and go to the second bar and kitchen across the way where you can get a decent beer for $6.50.
A terrible greedy business that cares nothing about customer service. Puts profit FAR over caring for individual needs. You’re not allowed to sit there with any other drink or purchased item from them unless you buy an alcoholic beverage. Adult was disallowed from sitting there bc she is sober and yet a backpack was sitting in that seat 10 minutes later. 😡 A greedy, uncaring, and discriminatory business. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS BUSINESS!
Canned beers in to-go style coolers are priced as if you’re getting it fresh from the tap and sitting at the bar. Beer prices not listed anywhere in cooler. Rip off.
Horrible service, bartender was rude when I asked if I could use the outlet. Said we need to order a drink first. I asked for a drink so we could charge our phones and he told us no. When asked why, he said “because I said so”. No prior exchange of words before I asked. Do not come here
