I'm Visiting my sister and we decided to try this new coffee shop. The food is first class. The coffee is delicious. The seating inside could use some regular tables. Also, the scone I ordered was amazing but needed to be warmed up a lot more. We will definitely be back
Stopped here after taking my dog to the vet next door and ordered a horchata cold brew. Absolutely delicious! I also asked for a pup cup, and the staff accidentally made two and gave me both, which was very appreciated by my dog😆 Staff were all super nice, service was quick, and they told me to bring my dog inside next time so they can see her (dogs are allowed inside the shop). Seems like a nice place to hang out, I didn’t stay but there was ample seating and the high ceilings gave it a spacious feel. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Bagels are DELICIOUS! Seriously, best bagels we've had, and they give you generous portions of butter and cream cheese. Now for the coffee. The drip coffee was perfectly roasted (I got a light roast). My husband has the lavender latte with oat milk, and he thought it tasted watered down. There's a chance he accidentally ordered drip coffee with a little oat milk added instead of a latte. He then tried a pumpkin spice latte, and the spices were just right.
Texas Coffee Works is so well-worth visiting! Do yourself a favor, take a drive to the beautiful Bastrop area and make Texas first Works your first stop. Come hungry, too, because once you step inside, you’ll want to try EVERYTHING, from sandwiches to delectable baked goods. You cannot go wrong with any of the coffee menu creations, too. Now, just know that every single thing is made in-house from scratch. Oh, and do t leave without bringing home one or a couple of their freshly roasted signature coffee blends. If you come on a weekend, there will be live music, too. Texas Coffee Works simply offers one of the best experiences to coffee lovers in the Austin area. Plus, the stuff is incredibly friendly. Oh, and did I mention that they are quite famous? Even peeps in NY know them!
One of the best coffee shops I’ve ever been to! The croissant was so delicious and fresh and flaky, it tasted like it just came out of the oven, the chicken salad was super healthy and hearty, and the watermelon cup was so fresh and delicious. Please stop here if you’re ever on the way from Austin to Houston! Such a gem and such a treat! My one year-old dropped all of the watermelon and they gave him a whole new cup of watermelon for free! Such a gem.
This was a pleasant surprise on my way back to Houston from the wine country! This place did not disappoint. I got a lavender mocha with an add shot, plus a gluten free banana bread. They were so friendly and welcoming! I told him I really don’t like overly sweet coffee and they were able to make it perfectly just from my description. The gluten free banana bread was also very moist and not dry or chalky at all (sometimes it is). Definitely homemade. The shop is also very spacious with great spots for working or studying. I’ll definitely stop again when I’m driving through.
Drove here a long with 2 friends on route to Houston for brunch. Caprese - fresh, flavorful and rich in ingredients. Pesto is extremely creamy and will definitely satisfy the belly. Turkey - generous portions of turkey meat. The turkey was succulent and the flavor blended well with the rest of the ingredients. The multiple flavors did not overpower the overall taste of the sandwich. Coffee was also on point. We love visiting local coffee shops and not the run of the mill Starbucks. Definitely recommend.
High qualiy coffee lives here. Everything is big in texas. I wish they've put a coffee variety on the bag, i guess, my Ethiopia is Guji. P.S. Gentleman with a beard at a counter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.
Update: Christen is quite the pastry chef!!! I had the croissant and the pain au chocolat! Goodness gracious!! Well done!! Oh my gosh!! kouign amann!! What’s a kouign amann you ask? The short answer is head over to Texas Works between Smithville and Bastrop and find out for yourself. The long answer is kouign amann is a rich, buttery, caramelized, heavenly pastry from Brittany France (Bretagne). The dough is layered with sugar as well as butter, then folded and baked until it develops a caramelized, crispy, and golden crust while remaining soft and flaky on the inside. Best kouign amann I have had since France. Head over to Texas Works! From the moment you walk in, the staff greets you with warmth and you feel like family. The intoxicating aroma of ground coffee and fresh pastries enchants you and make you want to stay there forever. Leah knows everything about pastries and Michael makes the best coffee in the world, because they both have something in common: Love. They love what they do and it shows. Great ingredients, great people, that’s the winning recipe.
This place is amazing, definitely stop in here for an amazing cup of coffee or latte. Very reasonably priced bags of coffee that are amazing! Just brewed the Vanilla Crème medium roast at home in my Chemex- WOW. Great swag too with awesome designs on mugs, shirts, and metal can koozies, awesome stickers. I’ll go out of my way to go here again.
Searched for coffee shop on our route and Texas Coffee Works popped up amongst other coffee options. So glad we picked it! The coffee is wonderful and the pastries look stellar. We would have tried one but had just eaten lunch. If the aroma means anything, they must be amazing. They have coffee beans, snacks, super fun swag and enough bean and roast knowledge to make your head spin. Atmosphere…almost forgot. Super comfortable, welcoming and live music in Saturday! Don’t pass it up!
this is one of my favorite lil coffee places!!! They have excellent pastry case selections, and I always love their drip coffee. I travel back and forth between Austin and Smithville a lot and this place stands up to some of my favorites in Austin. Great coffee, great atmosphere and great service. Love it! (Today I got the everything bagel with the garden veggies cream cheese and wow it was so good!!! The cream cheese had actual fresh carrot, celery and dill in it and it was amazing)

Absolutely hands down my favorite place on the wayside to Houston. This place makes their own handmade baked goods, fresh and freshly being made all morning long. Bagels, muffins, unique cookies, amazing!!! Their coffee is their own, absolutely beautifully roasted with their own unique blends full of flavor. The barista/owner made a crafted mocha with raspberry and hazelnut, absolutely delicious!! The ambiance and atmosphere is refreshing, cool and beautiful. If I could come here every day, absolutely would. Go visit NOW!!!! 💜💜💜💜💜
Y’ALL! Not only does TCW have the best coffee in Bastrop by far, but their custom sandwiches are INCREDIBLE! Seriously, try the custom sandwiches they are so dang delicious. we got the roast beef on Rosemary focaccia with provolone, pickled onions, pepperocinis, and Dijon mayo. You will not be disappointed!! PS- shout out to the amazing staff, y’all are great. - Swells
We buy our Regular & Decaf coffees here and we enjoy the freshness. We have had their homemade sandwiches & pastries and they are Wonderful! Service is incredible...you just have to try it. They close early though,so check their hours.
So thankful to have found this hidden gem of a small batch roastery in Bastrop! Love that they roast their beans daily - we really enjoyed the Campground Blend. Delicious sandwiches and a relaxed, chill vibe in the coffee shop. Indoor and outdoor seating available with live music on Saturdays. 10/10 recommend, glad to support a small business!
You can tell that this place values their quality over quantity. I’ve been coming here for a while now and I’m so happy to see how many people have been making this place so busy! Their coffee and pastries are extremely well made and the employees are always super cool. Hope to see their hours expand soon!
First time visiting. Drake & the team were extremely helpful in assisting me with a specific iced coffee I like. The great service continued even after I requested more milk, more caramel. 🙄 I can’t say enough about this small town shop topped off with a whole lot of country charm. If I could give 10 stars, I would! I’ll be back!!

Cute place, very busy so obviously popular. Atmosphere and decor were inviting and the menu is interesting, baked goods looked delicious. Maybe we ordered incorrectly that morning? We had a very hard pretty uneatable cinnamon roll and a stale tasting pumpkin muffin. We asked and were told the rolls were made fresh daily? We'll give it a try another time but this was disappointing.
I'm new to Bastrop and looking for a great coffee place where I can just chill and read. Texas Coffee Works almost achieves that. The design of the place is amazing and welcoming. Their focaccia sandwiches will make you wish you were hungry. The coffee is amazing. And it's a nice local joint. The only thing it's missing is comfy seating. All of the seating is on metal bar stools at bar height tables. I'd love to have a place where I can sit in a comfortable chair, sip on a great coffee, and read. I think they're doing some renovation to the outside space which should be interesting. Hopefully they will eventually add some comfy seating. If they did, it would easily be my #1 recommendation for a coffee spot in Bastrop.

Coffee is solid, though slightly on the acidic side. The food options are just okay, with limited choices for those watching carbs or calories, and the selection feels more lunch-oriented despite being an early-day spot. Some items also didn’t seem especially fresh. I’d love to see a broader menu, particularly with more healthy, breakfast-focused options. The atmosphere is nice.
