⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Must‑Visit Spot for Authentic Chinese Comfort Food! I’ve been to many Chinese restaurants, but this place truly stands out. Their orange chicken is to‑die‑for—crispy, perfectly glazed, and bursting with that sweet‑tangy flavor that keeps you coming back for more. The green beans are equally impressive: fresh, crisp, and tossed in a savory sauce that balances the dish beautifully. Beyond the food, the staff deserve a shout‑out. Everyone is friendly, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about delivering a great dining experience. You can tell they take pride in their work, which adds an extra layer of warmth to the already inviting atmosphere. The vibe feels authentically Chinese, from the subtle décor touches to the background music that transports you straight to a bustling street market. It’s the perfect blend of comfort and authenticity, making it an ideal spot for both quick lunches and relaxed dinner gatherings. If you’re craving top‑notch Chinese cuisine with stellar service and an authentic ambiance, look no further—this restaurant is the real deal!
From the first bite, I thought "Wow this is just like Chinese food used to taste like!" I had the Kung Pao Chicken. It had that classic flavor that many Chinese restaurants seem to no longer have. I was greeted with a smile, served a complementary pot of tea to start with, and the meal came out quickly and cooked perfectly. I was really quite happy with my meal here.
Moon House is INCREDIBLE!! Wow!! Tonight was our first time ordering and omg, the flavors!! 🫠 We had Chicken and Corn Soup, Egg Drop Soup, the Filet Mignon dish, Moo Goo Gai Pan and the Sweet n Sour Chicken. All of them were STELLAR!! We will absolutely order again and now we plan on coming in for an in person visit to try their amazing looking Peeking Duck!! Thanks, guys! Keep up the good work!!
February 2025 We have become regulars since my first review! It has been a few months since my last review so I thought to write one today. We enjoy coming here for simply tasty Chinese food. The lunch menu prices are a good deal. I really enjoy their Singapore Noodles, so I often order this dish and have leftovers at home. The place is tiny. Parking is on the lot, but also narrow, enter through Bentley. This is a one way parking lot. Service is is prompt, but without a smile. Haha! It is fine. Moon House is for a quick bite to eat and to fill your Chinese food cravings. --------- First time for us to try this place! Nothing fancy, just good food! We came here for lunch during the week. It was pretty crowded, but we were seated immediately in a booth. The place is small, but there is a private dining room, separate from the main dining area for large groups. You would need to call ahead and arrange it first. The lunch specials are a great deal. For $15.95 you get a choice of hot and sour soup or egg drop soup, brown or white rice with one of the several Lunch Special items. We ordered the Orange Peel Chicken, Mongolian Beef and Walnut Shrimp! We also got a nice pot of Jasmine hot tea! Each dish was so flavorful and tasty! I mean, spot on tasty!!! Beautifully presented too. Now we have our favorite Chinese restaurant on the Westside! Check in on Yelp ,and you get 20% off your entire bill! Free parking on the property, enter from Bentley.
Awesome Chinese food! I had sweet and sour chicken! Yummy! This place was totally amazing and we really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it. You will not be dissatisfied or disappointed. Excellent old school Chinese not some creepy panda express fast food junk really good stuff.
Delicious Peking duck and congee. Dim sum is acceptable. I think that is the most tasty congee I have tried in over 3 years in North America. The place is not big but good service. And the price is reasonable. There are many different kinds of nice Chinese food, but the dish size is big, so we will try the others next time.
Super delicious food!! My favourites are honey walnut shrimp and the roast duck! Next favourite would be the fish with spicy black bean. But everything is nice!! The hot and sour soup is also the right amount of spicy and sour!!! The beef is also so soft! It's really big portion also!! I tried something similar in oak tree inn but I think this tastes better!! The portions are bigger too!! The shredded pork with garlic szechuan sauce was too salty for me. And the xiaolongbao's skin was a little thick, not the type that I like. Also, the wonton soup had very fresh prawns but the wonton is mostly flour (I realise US wonton are all like that though).
I ordered the Kung Pao chicken. The chicken itself was good, and the sauce was great. It was pretty clear the chicken had been cooked separately earlier, then brought together in the wok at the end. Unfortunately, the vegetables (green onion chunks, regular onions, green peppers, and watercress) were undercooked. They didn’t spend enough time in the wok before being served, so it ended up feeling like Kung Pao chicken with almost raw vegetables. Still good overall, but not quite five-star. My friend ordered the orange chicken and really enjoyed it. He said everything about it was spot-on. Service was polite, but not very attentive. Our waiter was courteous when he first helped us, but once the food arrived, he didn’t check on us at all until the very end of the meal. In a small restaurant like this, it would’ve been nice to be checked on during the meal in case we needed anything.
Upon entering this Chinese restaurant, I found it quite crowded, though most were there to pick up takeout orders. The restaurant offers dine-in, but seating is limited. The environment is reasonably clean, but not particularly pleasant. Lunch options are plentiful, while dinner is slightly more expensive. The sweet shrimp was sweet and very springy, the beef soup was delicious, and the char siu (BBQ Pork) fried noodles weren't too oily, had a slightly sweet flavor, and tasted good. However, the lamb brisket stew was just average and not recommended. While the food quality was good, the wait times were excessively long. We waited a full hour for our food to arrive, during which time many people came to pick up their takeout, and the staff were clearly overwhelmed. While I understand they are busy, making customers sit and wait for so long is undesirable. I hope this can be improved in the future.
Reliable neighborhood Chinese/Cantonese restaurant. The type that is open probably 365 days a year. Whenever I'm feeling unwell, my goto is ordering porridge, some greens dish, and a noodle with protein. They're always pretty consistent and order is ready why I pick up. They wont win any awards, but I'm glad they operate in the neighborhood after all these years
First thing I will say is that the BEST Orange Chicken I have ever eaten, is made here (definitely coming back just for this). Think chicken first, then breading…so you are actually getting served more whole chicken rather than mainly, thick breading/fried fat and sauce. The sauce is plentiful, the flavor is excellent. The shrimp and veggies is very tasty as well.. The shrimp, pork and mushroom Siu Mai (an appetizer) was my second favorite. We also ordered hot and sour soup (which was pretty good). What I thought was pretty cool is They bring you tea and water first thing upon being seated. Reason for a 4 star is simply due to customer service. They never really table touched, but it was extremely busy so it is semi understandable. Also, our appetizers came after the main dishes.
Very good authentic Chinese food for the Westside. No, you can't compare with w Monterey Park, San Gabriel, but for the Westside, it's legit. The 4 of us ordered Moo Shu pork (not pictured (it was devoured before I could take a pic), string beans, salty-spicy pork chop, shrimp fried rice and chicken chow mein (crispy noodles.) All yummy. Good luck with parking during lunchtime. You may have to park on the nearby neighborhood streets.
Stopped in for lunch during the week because I work close by. It was quite busy when I arrived for a 1 PM lunch, but was able to be seated right away. Service took a bit to arrive and be able to place the order, but the food items arrived out fairly quickly. It’s not very large on the inside only a handful of tables and booths available. It’s in a small strip mall just east of the 405 and has a lot of free parking spaces available with its attached parking lot. The menu is fairly large and they do have a lot of great options, and overall the food is good however, not great. Los Angeles has a lot of really great Chinese restaurants and this is definitely a good one, but there are other better ones in town. I ordered an iced tea, but received a hot tea, which was fine, because I can go either way. I started with the Har Gow and it actually arrived after my entrée did, but they were good and larger than I was expecting. For my entrée, I chose the Beef and Broccoli and thought it was pretty good however, a bit more expensive than I was expecting for what you get. One of my favorite Chinese restaurants is Chin Chin in West Hollywood, and they charge only a few dollars more for theirs so I felt the pricing here is a bit too high. Overall, I would recommend for a lunch option, especially if you are in the area. It’s not my favorite, but it’s certainly worth trying.
We tried the Peking Duck, and it was flavorful, especially when wrapped into buns with scallion and hoisin sauce. The presentation was lovely. The Beef with Black Bean & Chili Sauce was another tasty dish. The flank steak was tender, and the black bean sauce added a nice kick to the dish. *One great thing to note, if you're a UCLA student, they offer a discount, which is a nice bonus! Moon House is a solid choice for Chinese cuisine, and I'd recommend trying their Peking Duck for a unique culinary experience.
My confident self waltzes right in thinking I'm going to order three dishes because I was hungry. Boy was I wrong. Got the chow fun beef, and it was a generous portion of beef slices on a mountain of flat rice noodles with sprouts. Very delicious. The egg rolls were really good - fresh and crispy! Quiet restaurant, fast service. I'd come back for more.
I have ordering food & eating food here since I moved to LA. The food is great BUT….the worst customer service I have ever experienced in a restaurant. I had a carryout Sunday. They forgot to give me my egg roll order. I called when I got home and they said a manager would call back. It’s Tuesday, I have called them 11 times simply for a $7.50 credit. Their mailbox is full 24/7 so no messages can be left. Their answering service is very nice but obviously has no success getting in touch with the restaurant management either. For this reason I will not recommend this place. Customer service is important in the service industry!
Have no idea why this place is rated so high.... Orange Chicken is marginal quality slices covered in some generic sauce that tastes nothing like Orange?! And then you have the $17 wonton SOUP or $8 egg roll! Its like Chinese food you may get from Wyoming...dont know how you CA folks put up with these prices and quality.
It was Xmas day and we were grateful to find this place open. As is usual now, 3/4 of the people were here for takeout. We,however, sat down. We had a $25 dollar lunch for $87. Orange chicken, Kung Pao Shrimp and Green Beans with minced pork that arrived as green pea leaves with large pork pieces. The chicken was not good. Soggy and bland. Not up to Panda Inn standards. Kung Pao shrimp was excellent though. The green beans with minced pork that came as pea sprouts and bbq pork was not good. The lunch bill with tip and tax was $87. That's beyond ridiculous. Service was polite and efficient but not for that price.
Delivery. Every time I order, there's some problem. Ordered spinach and button mushroom, & 2nd entry, lunch with rice & soup. The spinach was delicious. The mushrooms were rubbery. Old not fresh mushrooms get rubbery. At these orices. They dlshould know to cook fresh mushrooms. This is not cheap fast food prices. . They can't save money by using old vegetables. Mushrooms have to be fresh. Rubbery mushrooms.
Very disappointed with the service I received on Thursday. The food here is delicious but I can definitely find somewhere else to get overpriced chine food. I should have made this review the day I was eating at the restaurant and a mice ran under my feet but I didn’t. They clearly don’t care about their loyal customers as I have been coming here for over 5 yrs. My order wasn’t ready when promised instead it was ready 30 minutes later when I asked for my order and told them it should have been ready by then the response was “ you can wait or go “ they handed me a wrong order as well but my workers had to eat. So sad but I will no longer be coming here
Our date night at Moon House Chinese Restaurant turned into a disaster because of the male server (the one in the photo). We didn’t understand part of the menu, so I politely asked about the roasted duck. Instead of helping, he actually took out his pen, scratched on the menu, and yelled at us like we were bothering him.
Food is great but I ordered pick up many times and probably won’t anymore. I ordered tonight for pickup and driving to them and getting “Order canceled by the restaurant email”. I checked what’s wrong and Uber Eats app tells restaurant canceled as they are out of ingredient for one of ordered items (specific item was highlighted). So I still want to eat and re-ordered with another item! I continue driving… The minute I arrived I got another cancelation! Now, they claim to be open by 10:30, which is always true, but this day it was like internal staff meeting or so as people inside but doors locked. I knocked and showed them two cancelations emails which specifically state it’s canceled by the restaurant as they are out of some ingredient. They made big eyes and said “no, we prepared both but some other driver picked up both”. I asked how’s that possible as cancelation email only comes if restaurant clicks cancel button (or may be if they ignore order, but in that case missing ingredient won’t be mentioned)! If someone picked up my food restaurant won’t even know that wasn’t me and will consider order fulfilled until I show up and arrive. That’s simple logic, isn’t it? Add to this that those orders were spaces by 15 minutes and I arrived less than 10 minutes after placing second order. So they say someone took one order and mysterious cancellation email came which they didn’t send me and 15 minutes later or so someone took my other order and I got another cancellation email they didn’t send me?! I don’t think that makes any sense. The facts are: they sent cancellation emails with specific missing ingredient mentioned, they were closed earlier than other days and had some meeting. They simply couldn’t or didn’t want to fulfill my order due to some issues and forced me to drive there not making their status “closed” or not updating items available in Uber Eats. That I can understand. But what I won’t tolerate is blunt lies. They telling me they didn’t click cancel button but instead some mysterious driver took two my orders which were spaced in time is absolute LIE and that I disgust. Moon House, you could just honestly tell me there is some issue but you lied and that’s the only reason you just lost loyal customer. Lies are disgusting and I will never trust liars to cook my food or ruin my dinner again. Anything is accepted by people like me - mistakes, mess, whatever, but not disgusting lies.
