Speakeasy a trend. One of the better ones. Namesake 531 cute. No prohibition here. Narrow stairs up, reminiscent of soju house, third floor... nice decor. Silk wallpaper, mirror frames, silhouettes curtains, darkly-lit, individual lighting. Wall of antics, LP, typewriter, etc. We had a bottle of white wine, only option in the menu, Flowers. Very short selection likely intentional. Perhaps good strategy to bias cocktails. Similarly saw bottles of Buffalo Trace. But, when asked, not in the menu despite extensive in Scotch, even Japanese. Cocktails, we tried several. Carrot concoction very well made. Negroni and old fashioned too. Oyster only kumamoto not bad. Sweet potato fries, opposite of shoestring version, nicely done. Delish. Service bit perky. Guests at times may, but servers, no need to be overly assertive. No reservation, so only couple hours. But, asked to leave although several other tables available. No problem. We wrapped up. There are plenty other watering holes in this city that never sleeps.

We found this place close to the hotel we were staying, and decided to try it out. What great finding! Great atmosphere, food is great and the best cocktails we had on our trip to NYC.

Came here on Valentine’s Day with my date, and we left very happy (which honestly says a lot because Valentine’s dinners can be chaotic). I ordered the kimchi fried rice with steak, and WOW — it was straight fire. Perfect flavor, generous portion, no notes. We grabbed seats at the bar, and Marvin took amazing care of us all night. Attentive without being overbearing, great energy, and made the whole experience even better. Great food, great service, great vibes. Would definitely come back.

Amazing spot with a great vibe, excellent cocktails, and delicious food. Everything was beautifully presented and full of flavor. The service was friendly and professional, and the hidden speakeasy upstairs is a really fun touch. Highly recommended — I’ll definitely be back!

delicious signature Korean cocktails that were all uniquely flavored. They also played great hip hop music the whole time and the patrons were young and hip

visited Osamil recently and really enjoyed the experience. The space is beautiful — modern, clean, and thoughtfully designed — which makes it a great place to relax and enjoy a night out. The drinks were well-made and enjoyable, and the food was delicious. Every dish I tried felt fresh and flavorful, showing attention to detail in preparation. Overall, it’s a place that combines good drinks, tasty food, and a welcoming atmosphere. Definitely a spot I’d come back to.

Rerank for visit #2. Food was crazy savory and paired great with drinks. Impressed by the Japchae and Tteokbokki, heavy but delicious. Couldn't stop eating them. Espresso martini was perfect (orange/vanilla hint).

this is the second time visiting Osamil, and the quality of food is top notch. the service was fantastic (we had a reservation), but you could possibly walk in too, and the food comes out super quick. must try the cocktails, bone marrow, braised short rib, lamb chop galbi, and seafood tteokbokki.

We had an amazing meal at Omel NYC — the food was cooked to perfection! The lamb Gobi, sashimi, bone marrow dish, and flank steak fried rice were all outstanding. The service was excellent, and the staff were incredibly honest — they returned my purse after I accidentally left it behind. Highly recommend!

Osamil is a perfect a gem in Korean Town! We had a fresh and deliciously seasoned andiv and Korean pear salad, Fried avocado with crab - which was unique and innovative, octopus which was had a delicious spicy sauce and a beautiful presentation, and one of the best burgers I've had - the cheese was also genius, as it held the entire thing in place. Cocktails were also delicious: we've had Oxaca in the Desert, O Rita, and Soft Touch. My favorite was Oxaca... A must if you're in the area

Definitely one of my go to spots in ktown. Tend to order the soy garlic wings, french fries, braised short rib, and kimchi fried rice. As for drinks cannot go wrong with the oi-rita and espresso martini. This is a popular place on any day of the week so making reservations is an always. The service here is quick with everyone in such close quarters.

After this heavenly experience, fried chicken will never be the same for me. I'm someone who likes her fried chicken in the middle of to buns (don't judge me, I just thought it was better). But after trying this friend chicken by itself, I realized maybe I've never had proper fried chicken. We tried a couple things from the menu and don't get me wrong, they were all delicious, but there's a reason why this place is famous for the full fried chicken they serve. Definitely stop by Osamil if you're in New York and don't think twice before ordering the fried chicken, you'll look back and say: that crazy lady from google maps was right.

Loved the food!!! Everything tasted amazing & the vibe was so chill. I loved the mini octopus dish personally but mostly filled with vegetables. If you like lamb, you must try the galbi dish from the shared menu. The yogurt drink tasted like a lil dessert!

I tried some new dishes for the first time and it turned out to be such a great experience. I always love discovering new flavors, and everything I ordered was not only delicious but also really well-prepared. You can tell a lot of thought goes into the food here. I’m already looking forward to coming back — there’s so much more I want to try. If you enjoy good food and love exploring new tastes like I do, this place won’t disappoint

My first time dining at Osamil and my waiter was very kind and took the time to explain the menu and drinks. The food arrived in a timely manner and was delicious. The atmosphere was perfect for hanging out with friends. Would love to come again next time I'm in New York.

Awesome food, great buzz, and friendly people. This is the place to go if you want to share all kinds of tasty dishes with your friends. The sashimi plate is super fresh, the massive fried chicken is the bomb, and the spicing is perfection. Excellent cocktails too!

Fantastic Korean food and drink experience at this modern and lively gastropub. For 5 years now, it's been one of my go-to restaurants in the city, and honestly, they just nail it every single time. It's that consistent quality in both their food and drinks that really sets them apart, which is quite rare nowadays. You can’t go wrong with the food here! Osamil offers a varied number of dishes - my favorites are shareable - all of which are very tasty and capture the true essence of Korean cuisine perfectly. My recommendations on food further below! As for drinks, the bar offers creative and eclectic cocktails with a Korean twist, complementing the bold flavors of this Asian cuisine perfectly. The open environment is quite lively but rightfully so as it’s quite popular. Despite this, the staff is always friendly and attentive. Expect a busy crowd so reservations are a must if you’re coming in a group. Whether you looking to try some great Korean food or try something new and be daring (why not, if you’re in NYC?) you can’t go wrong with Osamil. My recommendations for food: Korean Market Fried Chicken: An absolute must for sharing as you get the entire chicken. It's got that perfect crispy exterior giving way to incredibly juicy chicken inside, and the seasoning is just right! Pork Shank: Another shareable plate but if you’re like me and can eat a lot, take this on yourself! This is fall off the bone tender and packed with flavor. Comes with lettuce, an apple salad, kimchi, pickled radish and more. Ideal for lettuce wraps!

We stumbled upon this place while waiting to eat somewhere else and ended up canceling our waitlist because the food smelled so good here. We were originally here for drinks, but decided to order food because they got us in so fast despite it being a very busy Saturday night. The drinks were amazing and so was the food. Such a cute place and very affordable. We had wings, steak tartar, shrimp, bulgogi, bread, & 6 drinks (martinis) for $210!!!

The service was phenomenal, our server was attentive and incredibly polite. Overall, most of the food was fresh and flavorful, though on the pricey side. Nearly everything we ordered was enjoyable, with a few notable exceptions. The beef carpaccio missed the mark entirely. Rather than a true carpaccio, it resembled sliced roast beef and a salad was a throwaway because the dressing wasn’t very good- and the dressing makes the salad . While the beef tartare was extremely fresh and delicious, the spicy Korean sauce completely overpowered the meat. Unfortunately, the flavor of the beef was lost, I could have been eating anything and wouldn’t have known it was beef. The cured shrimp was solid, but the uni tasted like it was past its prime, and the quinoa was undetectable. I had expected some crispness for texture, but it fell flat. The squid fries were fried to perfection and very tasty, but the dipping sauce didn’t work for me…and for me, the sauce makes the dish. We also ordered two dozen Kumamoto oysters during happy hour, but they were disappointing. They seemed out of season-dry, lacking liquor, and many were unusually small. I also didn’t enjoy the dipping sauces. Unfortunately, I need some sort of cocktail sauce/horseradish or Mignonette- I prefer it traditional that way. One standout dish of the night was the Johnson Tang. It was my first time trying something like it, and the flavor was exceptional. The depth and complexity were hard to describe, and I was genuinely, pleasantly surprised, which doesn’t happen often.

Went to osamil at opening on a Saturday by myself. I ordered the scallop skewer, the pork belly skewer, the kimchi burger, and a pilsner. The scallop skewer was by far the best thing I tried there. Burger was very dry (ordered medium), but the jalapeno sauce/"ash" (kinda like an aioli) on the side helped mask it. The pickled onions that came with the burger were incredible. I would come back, but I would not get the burger again. The pork belly skewer was fine. Pilsner was tasty and complimented the skewers nicely.

Some of the best kimchi fried rice I’ve had! The kimchi isn’t over plowing, nicely pickled, and has a little heat to it! The pork belly skewers were absolutely killer!! The service was okay- very nice staff but not as attentive. Also pleaseee add a dessert menu! Would definitely come back

I went to Osamil in Korea Town NYC on a Monday night for a birthday dinner right after work. It was a bit slow but to be fair, it was early on a Monday night so I can’t really comment on atmosphere. The host seated us in an intimate cute wooden booth big enough for 3-4 people. The food and service were outstanding. The endive and pear salad was delicious but the chicken wings, short rib skewers and kimchee fried rice are the things that dreams are made of. You will not find an extensive non Korean wine list here. But you will find an array of creative cocktails with a Korean flair. I was a bit disappointed that desserts are not on the menu because we were celebrating a birthday but other than that I would 100% recommend for dinner and drinks. The table seating is limited to 90 minutes but they were not rushing us out the door which I appreciated.

March 2026 update: I’m changing my review after my latest visit. First, if the kitchen closes at 9:30, that should be prominently disclosed in its reservation system for reservations later than 9:30. But worst of the night was that their reservation system messed up and despite my showing all the text messages I got from Resy - the confirmation, re-confirm, reminder.. they kept asking me to show them the actual email which I didn’t bother keeping. Even a confirmation from Resy app itself didn’t seem to satisfy them. Not one apology from the host or wait staff for the inconvenience; finally the manager came out, asked all the same questions and apologized, but all that aggravation was a moot point because the kitchen was closed anyway. I had to scramble to find an alternate post-theatre spot in Ktown that won’t make our clothes smell like kbbq in heavy rain. Review from Feb 2026: A cute little pub in k-town with nice drinks and good food. Gave 4 stars for food for now because I have yet to try that many different things on the menu. Love the vibe. It’s a place for you if you want to actually talk with your friends - not too noisy, not too dark, cozy setting. Hard to get a reservation, so do it in advance.

Solid food. Will give them that. However, the service was really unpleasant. We were advised of a 2 hour limit after we were seated. It’s news to us even though we had a reservation, but still understandable. A couple of our friends were delayed due to the recent snow storm, so we went ahead and ordered food and drinks. However, the server (Elle) just kept pressing us and asking if our friends were coming at each turn, while being very passive aggressive throughout. Nevertheless, we still respected their 2 hour limit. Only to notice the party next to us (same size - seated before us still enjoying their meal, with another person joining them as we were leaving. WELL over 2 hours). It makes one wonder why the arbitrary rule and whether the rule only applies to non-Korean customers. Will not return.
