Nice place to have simple Indian dishes, very economically priced, good quality and taste. It is in a very convenient location too.
I get a Bacon egg and cheese every so often. They're fast and great quality. very clean. Def a good pit stop before work.
OVERALL: GREAT FOOD, REASONABLE PRICES LOCATION: About half a block from Penn Station, it is very accessible from many hotels in the area. FOOD: Very good Latin, Indian, Italian and Halal food (yes all of these types of foods), tasty and there is a variety of options available. SERVICE: Friendly servers, very polite. COMFORT: Enough space in the restaurant; tables are OK.
OMG $14 Halal Steak with fries soda and a salad. I was so skeptical about the place since it didn't look or sound great. But I was craving a steak and they had parking right outside so I went in and oh boy was I glad I did. My wife had a chicken sandwich and she claims it was good as well.
The best $14 steak I've had. I wouldn't get anything else if I came here. My friend got a burger which was not a great choice. Just get the steak and plantains, it's cooked fresh and comes with a salad.
I loved there pizza, it was oily but not too oily and it was crunchy but not too much which made it perfect!
Thanks, Romolo for a great customer service!
The best breakfast! Potatoes are perfect. Fast too for those running to work. Haven't yet tried lunch or dinner but plan to. Smells and looks delicious.
Lamb curry so delicious and mouth lickering. And "Ali" the guy serving food is so customer friendly. My family enjoyed the chicken biriyani and lamb curry.
Had such a pleasant experience eating at Salt and Pepper on West 33rd Street. The food was so incredibly fresh and tasty. The portions were great in relation to the prices charged for their combos. The naan in particular is a must try. Made from scratch right in front of you and served hot and fresh. The employees were so friendly and sweet and made sure to greet and delivered an overall great experience. If your on the hunt for authentic, quality Indian/Pakistani food in the Midtown area please give this place a try.
Good amount of food for decent price. Best of all, everything is halal! The rice + chicken Tikka Masala or lamb curry + any veggie option was my go to for 12 bucks. Sometimes they have chicken biryani for 5 bucks too. But they have like anything and everything on their menu including steak which I never tried
Lots of fast food-pizza, buffet style, etc. Good prices, centrally located 33rdSt (might be off by a street). Liked that everything is behind a screen & they have servers to serve u the food. Had Pizza. Can't really go wrong with that, but other customers had the hot food & seemed satisfied.
I used to eat here at least twice a week when I worked nearby. Good value and good food for the price. The South Asian food was my favorite, but I like that kind of food. Many dishes may have been too spicy for some. The food may not have been the fanciest, but it was authentic and a very good value considering the very expensive location. I would have their other more typical NY dishes from time to time as swell. Great for a fast sit down lunch or to take back to the office.
Very tasty home cooked food. Tasted very authentic. Walk past the pizza counter for the Desi halal options. We had the lamb, chicken rice naan option. All finished and ready for our flight home 👍🏾
I love everything about this restaurant. The service is excellent and the prices are reasonable. The food is delicious and vegetarian friendly. If you're staying close to Madison Square Garden, you should definitely give this place a try. They have middle-eastern type food, and American breakfast items. I ate here, for breakfast, my entire stay in NYC. They're open 24 hours. Service with a smile :)
PROS 1. Chicken Stew is Flavorful. 2. Beef Stew is Tender and Flavorful. 3. Beans are Flavorful. 4. Rice is cooked well. 5. Baked Chicken is Super Flavorful. 6. Curry Chicken is Spicy and Flavorful. 7. Curry Goat is Spicy and Flavorful. 8. Biryani Rice is cooked well. 9. Okra is cooked well. 10. Prices are Reasonable. Indian Delights and Latin Delights. Ugh, I love it! Many Blessings to All.
Everything tasted homemade! Pancakes, Breakfast Omelets, and French toast so delicious! The servers are so polite and attentive! They serve yout typical American food, Indian Food and some Spanish food! Plus, $5 charge for all day to hold luggage!
My husband and I were in New York for two weeks back in September and came across this restaurant! Can't say enough good things about it! One visit, we had burgers, second visit we had wraps, third vist we had pizza and another visit we had the steak dinner! Everything was delicious and great prices!! The staff were very friendly!!
Their $5 chicken Biryani is delicious and enough for a person for lunch or dinner, best in the area for Indian food with options of pizza and mexican food as well.
Very good food! Would come back if I lived here.
We found this restaurant when we were on our way from Penn Station to hotel. Outside it was written Chicken Biryani £5 and it attracted us. We were hungry n ordered chicken curry with naan. It was a huge portion and cost only 14 dollars. Initially we thougt it was an arabic restaurant but there was huge variety of Bar BQ and pakistani and vegetarian dishes. Food was hot n tasty n cheap.
This place is great. It's one of the few venues for reasonably priced, generously portioned, and delicious food. I gave "atmosphere" three stars (which may feel overly-generous,) but it's got a pure, no-frills vibe. I feel like it's a disservice to ding them over something superficial, but this definitely isn't somewhere to dress up for.
It's cheap and so delicious, the people is so kind, very good place to eat for a few bucks, it worth it
A home cooked experience, for sure... hands down, good food. Been coming here for over ten years. To have courteous folks serving your food, is always a winner; that's this place.
You'll notice yourself feeling less stressed while dining here. The food surpassed similar establishments completely. The vibe at Salt & Pepper is modern and the staff is helpful. The employees provide outstanding service. I regret every meal I ate elsewhere instead.
This restaurant holds a special place in my heart. The kitchen incorporated new elements of high standard. Staff members performed excellently. The setting makes dining here special. I'm planning to eat here again.
Hear me out, I know this place advertises themselves as a Spanish spot and serve everything from Smoothies to Burgers and Pizzas to Pakistan Indian food, BUT the only thing you wanna eat here is anything made fresh to order, especially the Chicken Karahi, Naan and Chicken Tandoori!! What an absolute gem of a place if you know what to order, the 60 year old Pakistani Chef makes a BANGING Chicken Karahi FRESH to order. It’s a hidden gem in Manhattan that I don’t wanna gate keep anymore to get them as much business as possible. I called ahead to ask if the Pakistani chef was working and he was happy to make ahead a fresh order of Spicy Chicken Karahi. We got there and this 60 year old uncle greeted us with his bright smile and asked us if we wanted anything else made fresh. The karahi came in the seasoned wok that gives it the special Taste. Truly took me back to the streets of Punjab, happy to say that I will be going here whenever I crave a Karahi bc no one else comes even close to this!
Good prices in all Indian and Spanish dishes. Accesible space to dine in. Near Penn Station and Grelleey Park of trains stations, Hot and Ready food dishes. Personnel from Spanish or Indian food servers. Cash register separate of prepare and. Attendance of serving trays. Take out.
This is the best Indian/Pakistani food restaurant in the New York city, I've had a chance to visit this restaurant multiple times and it never disappointed me and always went beyond expectations. Anybody from Indian subcontinent or indian food lover visiting new york must visit this restaurant and enjoy their cuisine. Owner himself is one of the nicest person. Highly Recommended.
Wendy Williams was talking about lamb chops and I had a taste for grilled lamb chops. It was my first time at Salt and Pepper and I enjoyed my $15 lamb chops meal. I had mashed potatoes and salad, the 3 lamb chops were lightly charred, DELICIOUS on the bone. Now I'm encourage to seek out other lamb chops joints. Free soda with $15 meal. Nice veiw to eat and people watch after shopping. Enjoy!!
Nan was excellent, so was cauliflower shak. The best of all the waitress was very good. Their business is so good and fast moving that everything gets sold out and hence everything is fresh every day. My wife and I loved it.
hit 👍like if u find review helpful 1. food is good 2. serving size is good for one 3. Roti/ Indian bread is very large size but amazing.. so order accordingly 4. cleanliness needs to be looked into immediately... floor needs more frequent mopping hit 👍like if u find review helpful
Good little Desi Food place near 34St Herald Sq, saw the name and came inside. Looks clean and employees are good too. Food tastes good but not a 10/10 maybe 8/10. Overall a good place.
It was nice to find a Halal place where I could sit down and eat. My only takeback was that I was hoping to find the usual chicken over rice or chicken Gyro, but they serve chicken, biryani, and other Indian base Halal foods. That was not an issue as what I ordered tasted very good. I had grilled chicken over salad and my friend had chicken tacos. There was a variety of food choices, so you will definitely find what you like and the food is tasty.
Love this place it's cost effective very clean...n a Friendly environment.... Went there with My Hubby. We spent more money in burger king for 3 whoppers bill was $38 at Salt n Pepper my hubby had a lamb gyro n I had nice beef stew over rice w salad n plantains bill was for both with drinks $34.10 Sincerely; Lisa Romano
Honestly, I'm not sure how to explain this place... it has smoothies, "typical" spanish food, a "steak house", Indian food and a pizza shop... to much going on. I've tried the chicken Tikka, but I'm not sure it was cooked all the way... actually, I am sure it wasn't cooked all the way. Some of the food on the steam table looks amazing, but then you look at the stale and old condition of the rice, and it gets me depressed. No one wants old dry rice... so I just go there for Gyros and fries they have that right!
We stopped in last night after a concert at Madison Sq Garden. It was around 11 PM. The food was still fresh even at that hour. My girlfriend and I had curry chicken. Hers had spinach and rice, I had cauliflower and rice. Both dishes were fresh and very tender.. The decor is tired but it is a cafeteria style place and you are dining there for the food which was excellent
Besides other reviews, breakfast food was good to me. Husband had lunch with plantain he enjoyed. Fresh real fruit smoothies were good. Now let's see if my stomach likes it too. So far so good
Excellent place to eat spanish and indian food. The food had a great taste, really fresh. They have some great combo prices that include sirloin 12 oz steak grilled and salmon grilled with a side order included and a soda for just 13.99. This combo is so big served that is actually for 2 people to eat. Recommend to go.
Mexican (kinda) slash Indian food. If you need a quick bite but want something good and not the usual fried trash, this place knocks it out of the park. I had beans and rice with chicken with a side of okra dashed with raw onions and jalapeños....omg! Perfectly seasoned, this unassuming spot is now going to be heavy in the rotation whenever I roll into Manhattan.
Alhumdullilah everything is halal here. No frills, nothing fancy here whatsoever but the food will hit the spot for many that work or shopping around the area. It's on 33 Street opposite of Macy's and Madison Square Garden. I have been coming here for a very long time even before they switched hands. I still continue to patronage here many years later. It's now the only dine-in halal food place that actually serves Spanish halal food I think as of this review, of the entire Manhattan Island, outside of Mexican Latino halal food that are slowly popping up. The other halal Spanish spot that used to be by Queens Bridge few blocks away from El Ber and who also served halal Jamaican food there too sadly no longer exist and turned into a American halal burger joint before COVID. In addition to their halal Spanish food menu, they also have American fast food and also a surprisingly pretty good Indian food menu there as well. Just advising everyone food definitely better just around lunch time when it's out the kitchen. Later in the evening doesn't look too fresh or appetizing but hey, sometimes I still come around anyway at that time. And every now and then I'll come for breakfast. And that's good too There is plenty of seating too.
Firs of all, I really addicted the quantity. I thinks most of U.S. local foods are super large and tasty even snack and drink! That's why I really love U.S style. I tried "D"(NY sirloin strak and rice with soda), the rice type is not sticky but nice fried. Steak also good but some of part is too gummy. But Mood is little bit noisy so, I cannot concentrated my meal. Service is nice. Cook look cold but when I took picture, he smile and posed. I really thanks you for his attitude. Total: Good!
A wonderful halal eatery perfect for a quick lunch or dinner. They have an interesting range of choices which include American food (burgers, hot dogs, pizza, sandwiches etc) as well as desi Pakistani food and also steaks which really impressed me! I got a chicken burger with fries - all just for 10 dollars. The portion was huge and the chicken was juicy and crisp. I’m looking forward to trying out the other things on the menu. The service was polite and quick. Our server was kind enough to bring the food to our table and also get us condiments and napkins as needed. I appreciated it. Totally going back.
Stop #308 for @pizzas365: Salt & Pepper has an average slice, seemingly secondary to some other food options at the restaurant. The crust is a bit too crunchy, and the cheese it too greasy. But for the price, it's certainly fine. 2.6 Stars.
Food is great. Service is good. Price point is great. Setting is more suited for a quick lunch break. Not really a nice sit down restaurant.
food was alright. i got the onion steak platter and it was not at all what was advertised. everything else was just mediocre. the fries had little to no flavor and the rice was alright. not great, wouldn’t come again.
UPDATE 12/23/2023: Returned after nearly 8 months, disappointed. Quality is down and prices are up, was really looking forward to eating here, don't think I will again. 12/19/2022: Amazing food steak was really good, had chicken kebob and grilled tandoori chicken very authentic Punjabi flavor! Wife had the okra and chicken salan said it was very good. Roti and naans very fresh.
Ordered the breakfast combo. I specifically asked the chef to cook my eggs fried hard on both sides. The egg yolks were runny so I asked the chef to cook them all the way, and he made a big deal out of it. My pancakes had batter inside of them too. First impression sucked and I do not recommend.
Less than mediocre mashed potatoes and steak was overdone despite asking for medium rare. Was cut into strips to make it cook faster. The fries were ok. The only good thing is that it's purportedly halal.
Not a good restaurant. Kishmir 9 is far better which is located on 9th Avenue.
Pak & Indians can skip going to this place. We went there at 9pm knowing that the close time is 10pm. However, the staff must be tired and didn't show any interest and kept on saying that we are closing soon!! Pizza slices looks ok.
I was craving a steak, baked potato and salad. And Voila! I end up at Salt & Pepper. Let me say that my steak was extremely salty and with no pepper ...lol. There were various specials posted on the menu and I chose the $15.99 deal. I also ordered a fresh apple, celery and ginger juice, which was delicious. My steak and baked potato not so much. I rate Salt & Pepper with a ONE out of five stars. The food wasn't very fresh, the salad was wilted and the baked potato old and soggy. Service was okay. Sometimes you find a 'hidden gem', unfortunately this venue is not one.
As my husband was really interested about halal steak, after long search he find out that place. The price was ok on the behalf of the place, because it's in the Manhattan. However,we both got dispointed.Because, steak was so hard, not proper way to cook. Also, service was so bad. They serve salad without dressing and bake potatoes without sour cream. This place not even worth for 1star.Worst service ever.
I bought food from this place today; watching the man making my grilled chicken sandwich already gave me a headache cause his gloves were dirty full of sauce mixed with dust and germs; touching the food and the register; I tried to ignore what I’ve seen because I was so hungry after 3h class; I payed 10$ for that sandwich and I came home; I ate half of it; then after half an hour I started having stomach cramping; and I got sick and throwed-up! I knew this is gonna happen to me; germs were everywhere; I am sorry but no infection control at all. Icrossed this place out and will never eat there again
I would give 0 stars if they allowed it. Worst place I have ever been to. Food was cold and stale, smoothie had chunks of store bought frozen fruit floating in water and the staff was extremely rude and unattentive. As a Pakistani, I feel that the quality of food and service provided by the staff is a misrepresentation of our culture.
Although I was a little hesitant about it, my Friends thought this spot was a good place to eat. We walk in and the food smells great. All I wanted to do was to dig in. A waitress kept coming by our table to check on us and pestering us to hurry up. We’re new so we just wanted to study the menus. We let this go but then we asked the waitress if we could pick out exactly what we wanted on our plates from the wide selection. I don’t think she understood with her lack of English. But of course we let this go because at least she was trying to communicate. She kept us from getting up to get our own plates and brought our dishes to us in order to receive a tip at the end. She brings the wrong meals and on a tray that reeked of dirty laubdry due to apparent improper washing. I was clearly confused but didn’t complain until I saw others pick out what they wanted on their plates. Me being upset and shy, my friend forced me to up there. I go up there and tell a young Hispanic chef that I’ve received the wrong order and he shouts “what am I supposed to do?!” Shakened, I go back to my table. My friend then proceeds to ask another employee of south Asian descent for help. He has been a great help and tells the other employee to fix my order. He takes my plate and instead of fixing my entire order, he throws a different type of wrong meat onto the same plate. My friend says that he at least needs to put the potatoes that I paid for and he shouts “No! You already got your special!” And aggressively gestures us to sit down. I understand there are times where you must empathatize with employees but this is just disappointing especially when you’re the one playing for proper handling of food and service. I have never in my life wrote a bad review for any restaurant. I can ensure all that I will never return here and warn others to stay away from this restaurant as should be!
I really want to give this place zero stars. It was disgusting. The staff kept giving so much attitude, the place was really dirty. The food was over priced and not even good. The cashier didn’t even give me the correct amount of change back and refused to give me my money. The place had water bugs crawling around. I would never recommend this place ever
I'm Asian and my traditional food is biryani. Unfortunately The chicken biriyani at salt and pepper is the worst biriyani ever I have tasted. Poor service. They served the biriyani without even salad. I had to go to counter middle of my meal and had to ask for it. Cashier was not seem to me happy at all. Horrible place for lunch. Totally wasted my time and money.
I had a worst experience at this place . The food was not good and I lost my DSLR also . The staff refused to help me out to find it. I requested them to show me the CCTV footage so that we can know who took the camera but they didn't cooperate at all even after persistent request. Instead of being helpful, they were discouraging us and told I will never get my camera, and said even if I call police they won't show up and even if they do, they wont find my camera. They told me that why I am worrying for a just a $500 camera and I should buy a new one etc.. Finally, I called the cops and lodged a complaint. While I was waiting for the cops to come, they kept on mocking me and made fun of me. It was 1 AM and they just did not cooperate at all. That's worst experience I ever had in the US. Mocking & making fun of me was the worst part while I was waiting for the copse to come. If they couldn't help me, they had no right to mock at me!!
Food is ok, but service is terrible. Our waitress brought us wrong orders and told us we couldn’t change any sides, even though we saw multiple people pick their own sides. The guy behind the counter yelled at us when we asked for our correct orders. First and last time here.
My sister was there today and said the food was blah at best. What I care about is how the BROWN EMPLOYEES treat their BROWN CUSTOMERS. She spent her money just like everyone else and to be treated less than is unexceptionable.
So I go in and order a Philly cheese steak with fries and 16 oz drink (it's a meal item on the menu comes with all of that and specifies on the menu that it comes with a 16 oz drink). So I ask the guy behind the counter (he appears to be a manager) if it's a fountain drink and he goes no it's from the fridge. So I go to the fridge and notice a 16 oz drink that has Vitamin C in it and figure hey this is my lucky day (since I wasn't feeling well and the meal came with a 16oz drink), I was happy. So I get to the counter with the drink and the guy tells me it comes with a can of soda, mind you, the can of soda is only 12 oz not 16 oz. He then gets upset after I tell him that the menu says it comes with a 16 oz drink and the can is only 12 oz and he argued with me about it. Usually, a place that possesses good customer service will proceed to apologise and let the person go with the 16 oz drink since after all it is their mistake for falsely advertising that it comes with a "16 oz drink" rather than a 12 oz can of soda. However, not this guy, he would not let it go and says "do you want the order or not" with a very bad attitude, talking right over my food that was already prepared. (Thankfully, I didn't pay for it yet). I tell him, no thank no longer interested and walk out. Not only was my experience here rude but the customer service was awful and they falsely advertise.
The beef stew and rice & beans had no taste. I dropped my earpods on the floor and although they were mopping the floor they claim they did not see them. I ssn an Indian woman come in before me. Looked at the food and walk out. I should have known then
The food was average quality, 3 stars-ish. But the staff sneakily will tack on a tip that they decide while you're paying at the register without even asking. They probably don't expect you to notice. That kind of shady and greedy practice is why I've rated it 1 star overall.
UNKIND PREPARATION AND WOMEN DISCRIMINATION!!! We (my family and I) got a menu of the "restaurant" on the bottom of the street and thought that it was a very good price performance ratio. So we went there. But then the prices were all at least 2 dollars higher. We still ordered because we showed them the menu and everything was fine. Then when it came to paying my father and my sister already sat on the table. Only me(19) and my mum were there. Suddenly they wanted to get the higher price which was way too much almost 10 $ more. So I told them that we have this menu where the price was cheaper but they didn't want to accept it. I told them that they can't hand out this menu if they don't sell it for this price but they didn't want to hear that. I told them that we want to have it for the other price a lot but he didn't listen and ignored that. But we also saw that he put the menu to all the others to hand them out to other people at the bottom of the street again. Then my father came and I told him what was going on. Then he told them that he wants to have it for the cheaper price and then directly after that we became it for the other price. So they didn't accept it because I'm a woman and they don't respect me. Then we got our food and it was a really unkind preparation and I also got the wrong drink. So all in all NEVER go there!
It may have decent specials but the pizza is bland--- there is nothing NYC about it. How do you mess up on pizza? This place does.
Worst Indian foods experience ever!!! Foods were cold! not fresh! Casher look like you owning him money when you got into the store. When he put the foods into microwave for about 10 minutes, the paper plates MELT to foods!!! I don’t even want to take a picture to prove, it’s so Disgusting!!! foods were still COLD inside even 10 minutes in the microwave!!! The restaurant doesn’t want to spend the money on keeping foods warm. Bad signs! Don’t be fooled by the set price on the menu, you will probably be ripped off by them in the end!!
Me AND my brother got food poisoning from their beans and rice. Would not recommend them.
Disappointed!!! Staff is very rude and disrespectful. This is not the way you run your business. Would not recommend this place. Food is not fresh and they charge you based on whether you are tourist or local.
Look I find that I need to fight just to have you guys follow your own specials to the point where I need to walk outside and take a picture so you can follow through. Horrible experience not going to try this place again.
im sorry but this was the worst pizza i've ever had 🤣 no exaggeration. first bite and i was tempted to throw it away. had my friend try it too & they agreed. the aftertaste was like chemicals. also i got the 2 slices + drink for $3.50 deal only to walk out and see a different sign that offered 1 slice for a $1. wth!! lol i was aggy that i paid $1.50 for a drink that i didnt even really want. what kinda deal is that? 😆
