My sister lives nearby. I love going with her whenever I'm in the area. All the bartenders there are awesome. Each one with their own unique vibes. LONG LIVE THE PINK DADDY! (He knows)
Kind of obsessed w this place. It’s dark. It’s a little dirty. The bar patrons seem to all know the bartender and have been around forever. Free self serve water out of a jug in the back. But they serve food, there are a ton of drink options, and they take Apple Pay! What else can you ask for
My home away (or only a couple of blocks away) from home. Best bar in the neighborhood and my personal favorite in the city. Most of the bartenders are awesome, has a real NY bar feel to it, a cast of regulars and an amazing history (ask about the chain around the bar). Food is good, with a full menu, wish they would have at least some healthy-ish options but it's a bar, after all. Pre-Covid the backroom is always lit with great live music, stand-up comedy and just about anything you can imagine (hope that gets back to normal soon). I'll leave it at that, you have to have the Freddy's experience to fully grasp it. Once you're in there, take in the details. Stop reading this, go have a cold one.
Everything is so enticing and inviting. Food, people, music, comedy- ambiance. All reasonable- welcoming you to comeback. Even the crowd is so cool.
Went to Freddy's and I was able to get 2 IPA'S, burger and tots for $22.The bar was dim and interesting. It was nice to spend time in a bar that had limited gimmicks and a great throw back atmosphere. Hell yeah I will be returning. Well done, old school will always be better...
Legendary. A cheap bar in the South Slope that treats it's customers to exactly what they need. Brilliantly, the live music is in a completely separate room so you can hang out at the bar without being drowned out by bands. And Freddy's always amazing/brain boggling VHS video art is continually playing on at least one screen. Run, don't walk.
Classic spot! They did an amazing job relocating it and it still has a great mix of local neighborhood types with an artsy crowd as well. Some very friendly bartenders as well. Definitely worth a visit.
Unique spot. One of the few places around serving food until 2AM every night, made fresh. Eat here often and haven’t been disappointed. Decor can keep you busy for hours in this place.
Went to see a band in the Back Room. Drinks were good and the tatertots were fantastic.
AMAZING BAR AND SERVICE!!!! Bartenders were very warm and friendly, atmosphere was relaxed, and the tv screens played trippy videos which I thought was awesome. Drinks were cheap, and good, they have some signature cocktails. I tried the Grumpy Old man and 007, which were good and strong. Food was above standard for bar grub. Had a cheeseburger with tots, burger was juicy and tots were crunchy, not those soggy tots you get everywhere else, the chipotle mayo the cook recommended for the tots was delicious! Thanks!
Yeah yeah yeah Freddy's is awesome.. If you're s hípster you can earn your cool kid cred here and get validated by authentic Brooklyn hipsters. It's a very exclusive club. All jokes aside Freddy's is a very cool bar. I once met the devil in their old location. True story bro...
Classic park slope dive bar. Drinks are solid the food is amazing!
We didnt order any food, but the environment was so fun and the bartender was very kind
After a long day in the saddle out on the dusty trail, I like to shuffle on into Freddy's for a sasparilly and a yarn or two from the wise cattlemen lining the bar. Hear you can shake your spurs to a tune on the old gramophone, or sit in reflective silence like a cowboy does after a few too many lonesome nights out yonder and listen to some Jesus music on the piano. There's a place for every cowboy at Freddy's, tie your horse up and come inside!
Love this neighborhood bar! Great beer, great Happy Hour (12-7!), great music, cool movie montages, yummy food, and we really love Ellen! She is quick, helpful and friendly :) Thanks guys!
Freddy's is a cool little bar in Park Slope that has a bar and dining area, with a separate room for all kinds of free performances. The food is pretty good bar food, and they have a good little selection of beer and drinks. The decor here is interesting and eclectic, and only becomes more fun the more you drink. Definitely worth a visit if you're near the Prospect Ave. stop in Brooklyn.
This is still my favorite bar in the neighborhood, but the supposedly "non-smoking" out door spaces are anything but! I love having the option to eat and drink out side, but the smokers are really obnoxious. The $5 draft beer and hotdog happy hour special is great, and everything else on the menu is stellar!
They have the best sound engineer. If you request your vocals to be mixed how you like it, that's no problem. They have an amazing house drum set. The bass drum sounds awesome with a microphone in front. The sound person loved that idea.
Nice vibe. Friendly and responsive staff who made great recommendations. The drinks and food we're solid, especially the fries. The backroom is a nice touch if you're in the mood for live music. My quartet scheduled a performance there, and they were super accommodating. So we all stuck around for a few more hours. It worked out for everybody!
This is one of the best places on 5th Avenue in the South Slope area for live music, food and drinks. Spooky hip kitsch decor. On busy nights, you might not get a seat or table though. Warm weather tables out back. I wish it had an upstairs too.
Edit: Amends were made! So full marks! I’m about to give a completely unfair review of this bar. The food? Great. Good quantity. Good price. Weird payment/order system but it’s manageable. The burlesque shows they put on? Great. Cozy. It’s hard not to be close to the action. Here’s why I can’t in good conscious give this place a great rating: every time I order a Diet Coke, the guy gives it to me in the small glasses. Every time I go here. He gives my friends the large pint glasses of Diet Coke, but not me. Maybe it’s because they are hot babes and I’m a lumpy giant? Idk! I’ve taken to just having my friends order my drinks for me. 💔
Freddy's is an institution for a reason. It's the perfect hangout bar, and they have events almost every night of the week if you want to meet people and get involved. Sublime.
Great bar great service great times
Loved This Place. Had been hearing about, this spot. Finally went for the Birthday Party of regularly featured band player: "Fred". Was overwhelmed by the jam session, dancing & loved shown to me as a "newbie" from the "regulars". They greeted me warmly & even bought me, a drink... Warm Environment. Can't wait, to return.
Great atmosphere. The music is at the perfect level, nice decor, great drinks. Great staff!!! I brought a date with me and at some point a guy was creeping a little close to her. Before I could even say anything to the creep the bartender kicked him right out. I will absolutely be coming back.
I echo the previous reviews that highlight what makes Freddy’s so unique and wonderful- it’s such a gem! When I first moved into the neighborhood, it immediately became apparent that Freddy’s was a place where I could have fun and feel comfortable and safe, even as a newbie. The bartenders (and all the staff) are on point, attentive and good natured, creating a welcoming vibe that is felt when you first walk up to the bar. The music is awesome and the decor is super funky and cool. I’m so glad to have them near!!
Cool place to hang out and very different bar atmosphere then the other bars in the neighborhood. They do a lot of shows, comedy, music etc so you have to check in advance as it can be packed or semi packed. The bar has two sides to hang out in. Food menu is good and they have a cool outdoor garden area.
Freddy's is a fun local watering hole in South Slope, Brooklyn. Nice selection of reasonably priced beers. Bar food is good. The backroom is used for music, comedy, and other shows.
Friendly neighborhood spot with strong drinks and a great lineup of live music. Normally, I don't rave about tater tots, but I gotta say -- these are worthy of mention! Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly fried. Get sauce on the side; they're too pretty to drown. Tots aside, they have an unexpected, thoughtful and delicious menu so get your grub on. Live like a local here.
Like the atmosphere. As well as the look of the bar. Eclectic but also fun. They have a main bar area and a small backroom where they do comedy shows as well screen the games, like the superbowl for the people who want to watch. They also have a small kitchen with a variety of food. The kitchen closes at 2am. Definitely a bar to go try.
Great kitchy neighborhood bar. They have some board games if you want to relax with friends and drink. They always have something going on every night. If you'd like to check out local music and comedy, this place has it. All day happy hour, I don't know why all bars have this, from 12 pm to 7 pm. And so you don't get too wasted during the day, take advantage of the $5 beer and hot dog special. Solid bar food all around. Very popular among locals.
While I have heard it said that this is one of the best dive bars in Brooklyn, and I wouldn't disagree, I think that is selling it short. There are always great acts and events going on in the back room, there is a small patio in the backyard, and there is legitimate video art playing at the bar! Relaxed day drinking or dance party at night, Freddy's is great!
Freddy's is my favorite bar in Brooklyn! Amazing vibe and decor! Great happy hour and bar food with full kitchen. Open patio in the summer, frequent events from films to bands, etc. Incredible art and video collage on display. And the bartenders always have a great playlist. The best!
Had an great experience on Saturday watching the subway series at Freddy's. The bar keeper Angela was awesome. The food was good and the drinks were on point. Will definitely be going back there in the future
Fantastic Brooklyn bar. It has a great atmosphere and is reasonably priced. The bartenders are also extremely chill, friendly, and let u take ur time unlike a lot of NYC bars these days. I would definitely recommend Freddy's.
The most diverse bar I’ve ever been to. You got older folk, younger folk, dating couples, drunk frat boys, cowboys, hipsters, yuppies, LBGTQ, socially awkward people, over-the-top extroverted people, tourists, and local celebrities. The decor is amazing and they have live music (sometimes). Everywhere you look there is some odd anomaly. Which is really entertaining to look at. It’s a struggle for those with ADHD - I have to admit. Prices are great for booze; haven’t tried the food. Recommended for literally any occasion by yourself or with a friend or two. Wish I took some pics but maybe next time.
Favorite spot in the neighborhood hands down. Great events, great vibes, great bartenders, great food. If you've ever felt like a weirdo or outcast, this is your place. BEST TOTS EVER! Killer wings too.
Freddy’s is my FAVORITE bar of all time! The atmosphere is so unique, the food is delicious, and Chris the bartender is the best!! His friendly and personable service is a phenomenal experience. Freddy’s backroom is also a great venue for live music. I love to bring all my friends here!
Freddy’s has changed my life; before I started coming here, I was such a loser. Now that I check out improvised music regularly, I feel like I’m really somebody. My friends are all really cool and they come here a lot. They have cool films on the screen and they also have a fish tank. The food is great and the bartenders are kind. I love Freddy’s and every body should come and enjoy what they have to offer.
Great local watering hole with better than decent bar food and snacks. The performances here are eclectic and highly enjoyable. Definitely recommend some of the jazz nights.
Always a good time. Day or night. Comfortable little nooks to talk with friends plus open friendly crowds. I've never had a bad meal there. Always fresh and clean not greasy fries and tots. As well as the back room always having so kind of free fun entertainment.
Can’t beat an after work gin and tonic at Freddys and then see where the evening takes you as there is always something happening. Music, shows and just a great vibe!
I like to bring the hicks and bumpkins from out of town to Freddy's. " Never seen anything like it!" " Are we really going to eat here?!" " What's playing on that TV over there?" But then the friendly bartender asks what'll you have? Gets you a seat or booth. Put your order in for food. Regular bar menu with good choices, even salads! But what's that chain running completely around the bar? See if an old timer will tell you the story of the chain. Nightly entertainment. Good food, friendly service and a whole lot of atmosphere!
Great south slope institution. Folks behind the taps are awesome people. Nice happy hour and late night.
Chill vibe, good bar food, nice bartender. Not pretentious at all. Just a fun neighborhood bar with cool shows and a good selection of beer.
Spent my birthday party here last Friday nite and we had a blast!! Valerie behind the bar took great care of us, the tater tots were DELICIOUS, the manhattans were very good too, and it’s just a super laid back, fun, kinda divey-but-not-dirty just down home time. Thanks to Matthew and the crew there! Hope to come back soon.
Fun old-timey bar with live music. Their house draft beer is a great deal at $6 and enjoyed the pierogis from the back kitchen
Responding to the review left by Ivon Chaya that they left on Sunday, July 20th. I was there the night this incident happenedwhich was Friday, July 18th, and their review is full of lies! When this group came in, the gentleman came with a pint glass, ( not plastic cup. Etc), full of a liquid that was not issued by any of the bartenders at Freddy's. The bartender that had just got off shift, approached the group and asked about the glass. She then informed them that they were in a place with a full bar and bringing outside drinks was frowned upon. The group then immediately became hostile towards the bartender and caused a scene. The bartender then informed them they could leave if they didn't want to be compliant. Cursing issued from the party. They never sat at the bar but at a table. When they left, because they were informed they wouldn't be served, one of the young ladies in the group decided to record the bartender in question performing her duties outside the bar (throwing out the garbage), and say some nasty things to her. I've been coming here for a bit and never had an issue with ANY of the bartenders or the rules they set in place. True people who respect a bar know you can't bring outside drinks into any establishment. The people here are great and I will not let anyone talk negatively about a place based on lies. Come through and have fun!
Fantastic dark moody bar vibe that is hard to find anymore. Loved the dark wood interior, cool and weird objects that decorate the place. Back room for group events and performances. Angela at the bar was amazing!
Stumbled upon this place by looking up places near to our hotel on 20th street. Classic American dive bar, honest bar food, good beers on tap, a watering hole for the locals as well a few tourist passers by like us. We went back two more times, I liked the place a lot, brought back a lot of college years nostalgia.
This is a really fun bar. The decor is unique and cool. They have an aquarium with an albino frog which was unexpected! The drinks are reasonably priced as well as the food. They also may have the best tater tots I’ve ever had. Stag is so friendly and back room that hosts events is nice. Favorite spot in south slope!
Fanfrickingtastic. Freddy’s is a nice neighborhood bar. Perfect for an after work beer or a place to meet a friend for a drink. Although I didn’t see the entertainment they also have a back room for shows. The bartenders were chatty but professional and sitting at the bar is the place to be. I think my favorite thing was the history and age of the surroundings.
Alright so here’s the thing…. I watched this guy named Joseph play and yea I felt rebirthed so what!? He made me feel whole, he made me feel weak, he made me feel…. Alive… in more ways then one. I loved this place, thanks to Joseph. I felt pretty damn lucky to hear him play I’ll tell you that much! Review kings official score: DAMN HE HOT ON THAY GUITAR!
Great dive bar with funky decor and spectacular staff. Highly recommend checking out their events. Mondays and Wednesdays are comedy nights so if you're in the mood for some free live entertainment, come by and watch some raw stand-up that you can't get anywhere else. Be sure to check their site because the schedule changes occasionally.
Fact: if you don't like Freddy's you have bad taste. Fact: Bob Dylan once didn't play there. Good bar just to hangout and socialize. Amazing intimate performance space - not pretentious, no hipster avant vibes, just regular place for a variety of styles of music where you can really feel the music and the performers energy. Usually a diverse range of performances throughout the week. Probably my favorite venue space in Brooklyn.
It's just a great bar in almost every way. The drinks are strong, the food is good, and they're both cheap. There's free live music every night in the backroom (a performance space that doubles as an art gallery). There's a backyard. The owners & staff are cool as hell, and they discourage people from bringing kids. What more could you want?
Low key lit ambience with edgy decor, including trippy/bizarro video playing on some screens. Went on a weekday and it was the perfect place to relax and converse with friends. Bartender was very friendly and the drinks got the job done 😉 not sure how it is on a weekend night but I'm going to be coming back to find out. Recommended
This is the oldest bar in Brooklyn. It moved here not too long ago. It's got neat nicknacks all over (including a screen that shows a cat lapping up milk on loop--pretty awesome) that give it a comfortable, welcoming feel. The beer selection is good. There's a back, room for music, but I haven't been back there, yet.
Technically this is a local dive but I feel like I appreciate it more as a diner/venue because every time I go, I end up eating taters tots in a booth or watching comedy in the back (with a drink of course). This is a great place to go with friends if you need a chill spot for a drink and tasty food.
We came here on a Saturday around six in the evening. It was a good crowd, and the bartender gave us prompt service and attention. The happy hour was cheap. I didn't pay, but I think the the drinks were around $4 or $5 bucks for happy hour. They have crazy movies playing in the background, and a loop of a cat drinking water. It will trip you out. The bartender told us the name of the cat. The thirst is real. The bathroom was clean, which is a big deal in my book. I didn't eat anything, but they have a full kitchen, if you're up for some pub fare. In the back, they have a cute littel room where you can watch movies or listen to live music. There was a guy playing the guitar and singing the night we went. One of the owners stopped by and was very hands on with the staff, not afraid to go behind the bar and make sure everything is up to par. He even gave them a refresher on stacking the pint classes with ice. When he was done, my friend asked him about it, and he explained the purpose was not only science but also aesthetics. He was really nice and down to earth.
Low-key bar with a unique decor. Although it is quite a distance from Manhattan, it is worth the trip depending on the event they are hosting (live music/DJ). The food was GREAT in quality and price-point as well as the drinks being at a reasonable price.
Long time Brooklyn establishment with a reputation for music. Every night, their back room features a variety of performers. They have a nice beer selection and they offer decent bar food.
The COVID protocols were strong & I felt safe It was just great to be around people again. The bar had a decent selection & some affordable choices. Very close to the train. A good rock n roll bar. The Little ve Room was its own area & with itsown atmosphere as was the back porch. I'll be back!
We were here on a Friday night because my husband was a guest soloist by the band that was having their Monkees commemoration performance night. Inside, I thought it's nice. It's a good size bar with food choices. I had tater tots, some small empanada like food items plus dark beer. Good service. It wasn't that bust but there was a big crowd inside their separate performance space.
Definitely a hole in the wall! Live music and a local favorite. Generous portions but the food was just okay. Highly recommend the chips and guac!
Dim lit. Friendly bartender. $20 minimum for credit cards. Lots of antique decorations. Has a piano (a talented customer hopped on and played some tunes, unexpected but enjoyable) and 2 television. Looks to have a patio but at the moment looks to be closed. Has a kitchen and a backroom away from the bar. It's a comfortable place with affordable prices.
I loved this bar because it had its own personality. It was cool to be able to order your own food and pick it up once it was ready. The second whiskey sour I ordered wasn't so great but I'll definitely give it another try.
A bit dark bit the bartender is really nice. Knows his drinks. Happy hours weekdays for $5 for draft and wells drinks until 7pm. Good atmosphere after 7pm in Fridays.
Ellen was very hospitable, I was able to charge my devices and chit chat. I felt comfortable leaving my phone to the side while having a beer, there was a popular open mic comedy event and the vibes were so positive. Drinks are reasonably priced and the staff are knowledgeable about the area. Apparently they are one of the only places that stay open till 4 am since Covid as well, which makes for an eclectic crowd of local artists, travelers, and service industry folks.
I wanted to grab some food and a few drinks on Thursday so some of my friends suggested Freddy's bar and I have to say I tried their Philly cheesesteak quesadilla and tots it was amazing chef Mo really knows what he's doing in the kitchen. I just had one hiccup with a bartender I didn't catch her name but shes an older lady and has red hair, I'm not sure if she did it on purpose or not but every time I tried to order a drink it's like she looked right past me. After she left the bartender after her was attentive and nice I think his name is Lee he was pretty cool. Burlesque was fun. They also have this secret menu going on I'm definitely going to try it next time I just won't go as early.
Was in Brooklyn/NYC on a sort of vacation and didn't want to sit around bored in my hotel room, so I Googled up this place. Small bar, small venue. Very relaxed and comfortable (and it is a bar, so it's loud). Wish the backroom wasn't as roasting as it was, but outside of that, it was just what the doctor ordered.
vibes: immaculate the tater tots were crispy and fresh, but the chicken tenders were... the chicken itself was flavorful and juicy (maybe a little too heavy with the pepper) but the breading was SO weird. It was like smooth and flaky, instead of crispy. at least we knew that they were made in-house because never in my life have i seen chicken tenders like that anywhere else. i would go back and try a different menu item though, just not chicken based.
Come for the music which I’d give 5 stars to. It’s a decent bar at 3.5-4 stars. But the rating is 2 stars for the food which is basically high school cafeteria grade. I’d give this place 3.5 stars and although I rounded down, on a different day, I might’ve rounded up to 4 stars.
Their burgers & fries are the best + bartender is welcoming & I like the atmosphere. Unfortunately can’t say the same about the Women’s bathroom, should be cleaned/not smell like urine.
Good bar, good food and drinks. But the customer service not that great. Told us we had to leave with in 40 min. We were a big group and consuming drinks. Then the bartender was rude. Hire better customer service people that could represent the pros in the bar.
Been going to this place for 12 years and really enjoyed it for over a decade. The new person that takes your food order is unbelievably rude. If you hate speaking to people and taking orders, consider a different career.
Freddy’s bar seems so racist to me and let me explain the other night. I’m at the bar around 5:30 6 o’clock in the morning. black man got a little too wasted, and I guess the bartender asked him to leave and he refused to seven other white man plus the bartender stood up and getting ready to get physical and try to remove him by force illegal for them to do so instead of calling the cops big commotion happen at the bar Another another black man stood up and said that’s not right for you guys to do it’s doesn’t seems right Val a White Russian bartender that wasn’t on shift that day going to tell that black man that he no longer welcome to the bar now that’s what I mean when I said that bar seems racist. That was very racist of her to tell that black man he can’t come back to the bar after man pay for his tab and tip the bartender now that’s wrong
lol this place is hilariously bad. Fake emo guys at the bar will serve you “Freddy’s lager” that is actually Budweiser (per the bartenders) then laugh at you if you ask to play anything on the stereo. Will never go back ❤️
I went to celebrate my friend’s birthday we sat at the bar, and my friend’s husband had a water cup from another place and was kicked out for that, my friend went up to the lady to ask why was her husband being kicked out from the place and this lady told her do you want to be next? And came to us and grab our drinks it was me and another friend, so rude and disrespectful. My friends husband had no problem with throwing the cup, but she kicked him out didnt even asked. I ve been at this place before and the guy at the bar, the bartender is lovely, but this big woman should not be working here!
The lady working behind the bar there was very rude & nasty. They had 1 person taking orders and he was cooking the food too. They really need someone to help him. He tried his best but it took 2 hours to get me food. Also, they need more lighting in there. It's just too Dark that you cant even read the menu.
