Extremely nice place for any occasion. Easily accommodated our group of 9. The mimosa options were delicious! Everyone in our group said their food was tasty, most ordered the same thing. LOL. Loved the music that was playing throughout, it was my fav genre of music so didn't mind and it was NOT obnoxiously loud where you could hear each other talk.
The Honeydew You Believe It cocktail reminded me of an old fashioned! It was super smooth and not too sweet, which I loved. The french toast is delicious and huge, definitely a good one to share. For appetizers, don’t skip the calamari and popcorn chicken. Both are crispy, well seasoned, and perfect for snacking. It’s a perfect place to celebrate wedding, bday or bridal shower!
Castaway is a staple in it's own Hollywood history. We came for our 4 year anniversary. Castaway is very popular for it's location, City Lights View, interior design and patio seating. We we're seated at a table I really enjoyed with the view of the San Fernando Valley city lights. Castaway sets it's dinner prices so be prepared to spend some money. It does set the high-end feel for a restaurant. Noticed they kind of over book possibly. Between waiting to be seated and waiting for our food, took up some time even with a reservation we had made. Matt did keep us informed about our food and recognized our anniversary with a sweet treat. Waiting is actually not that bad since guests like to walk and look around. Good times at the right time.
Castaway is my family’s go to for celebrations and big groups. The food is always so delicious and the service is unbelievably good! Everyone greets you with a smile and I always feel so welcome. We recently had our Grandma’s 88th birthday there. Cindy helped us organize it and everyone made it so special. The buffet was a selection pastas, sliders, salad, bread, and a prime rib. My favorite part was the array of cute desserts. The staff was so attentive, noticing when we needed help setting extra decor, helping us take pictures, and getting takeout boxes and bags when we finished eating. Overall such a perfect experience. Highly recommend!!
I've been coming to California every year for almost 15 years, and my Californian family has kept this restaurant from me or never mentioned it! A great view and the prices are reasonable! Here, too, you can't get a table without a reservation! The food was fantastic 🤩 I'd love to come back.
My husband and I recently celebrated our 10-year anniversary, and we couldn't have chosen a better place than The Green Room and Castaways for this special occasion. From the moment we arrived, we were enveloped in an atmosphere that was nothing short of magical. The service at both venues was impeccable! Our waiter John at Castaways made us feel like VIPs, attending to our every need with a warm smile and genuine enthusiasm. Meanwhile, Jasmine at The Green Room was equally phenomenal, ensuring our dining experience was seamless and delightful. Their attentiveness and charm truly elevated our evening. The ambiance was stunning—everything from the decor to the lighting created a beautiful backdrop for our celebration. The vibes were absolutely vibin', making it the perfect setting for a romantic night out. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, and we felt transported to a world of elegance and comfort. We left with our hearts full and our spirits lifted, eagerly looking forward to our next visit. If you’re looking for a memorable dining experience with top-notch service and a beautiful atmosphere, look no further than The Green Room and Castaways. Thank you for making our anniversary truly unforgettable!
I went to this restaurant last night with my girlfriends and we had the most amazing experience! Everything was wonderful, but what truly stood out was our server, Teddy. He was an exceptional leader—so attentive, friendly, and genuinely caring. His energy, professionalism, and warmth made our entire night feel special and seamless. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of, and it honestly made all the difference. We will 100% be coming back to this restaurant specifically because of him. Teddy is a true gem—thank you for such an unforgettable evening!
First of all, what a vibe this place is! Views for days. Would be amazing to come for sunset. Very cool setup inside and outside on the patio. Food and cocktails were both great. We were there for brunch. Gin Membership cocktail was just what I was looking for - I don’t like super sweet cocktails, and this was not - it was crisp and refreshing. Food-wise, both things I had were great. Highly recommend the cauliflower and short rib Benedict. The short rib Benedict may be on the pricier side but oh so worth it. Short ribs were super tender and the fact that it was served on a waffle was different and delicious.
Daisy greeted us right away and helped us with our reservation and to our table. And Jesus was phenomenal all night with every that we needed and answered all of the questions we had. 10/10 will be coming back because of them
I’ve dined at Castaway on several occasions, and every visit has been wonderful. Most recently, we brought some in-laws here for their anniversary, and the experience couldn’t have been better. We were initially seated outside, but one of our guests had difficulty with certain types of seating. I went to the host stand to ask if it was possible to move to an indoor booth, and the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. Our server, Echo, was outstanding. He took such great care of us throughout the evening. When it came time for dessert, he went above and beyond by bringing us a platter of sample desserts to try — such a thoughtful touch that really made the night special. The overall experience was fantastic. The staff was friendly, the service was exceptional, the ambiance was beautiful, and the scenery is always stunning. Whether you’re planning a date night, celebrating a birthday, hosting family, or just enjoying dinner with friends, I highly recommend Castaway. They truly treated us like royalty, and it was very much appreciated.
We decided to visit after seeing this on a Wendy Williams Documentary. We thought the view was amazing, so we made reservations since we were coming to California. Everything was ideal. We got the lovely Shaunte! From beginning to end, she made us feel welcomed. Her bubbly personality made this a wonderful encounter. The food, the view, and the entire staff made us want to return.
The overall experience was amazing. I celebrated my one year anniversary with my boyfriend here and it was our first time. The staff was great, the ambience was amazing, and our server Andrew was the best! he had great recommendations and very knowledgeable of the menu. He was very thoughtful and kind to ensure our first time and anniversary was memorable and amazing. We recommend the New York strip steak and dry aged ribeye medium rare for both! Very tender and juicy! Loved every bite!
Jordan was such a great server. He even let us switch to a different table because it has a better view. The food was outstanding. I was worried about the valet issue based on other reviews I read, but the wait actually wasn't so bad. The cost of our meal was definitely on the high end, but I don't go to fancy places so often; so, I didn't mind the cost.
My friend & I came here for lunch and had the best time! She said it was her second time, this was my first. We loved how no one was here and even though it was overcast, the view was still beautiful! Our server was great and so was our food! We started with the calamari and got the squid in pasta and steak, so good! Their cocktails are so cute, must try!!!
I had the pleasure of dining at Castaway this past Saturday, and I must say, it was another exceptional experience. I paid $811.00 for a total of 7 people, and the restaurant went above and beyond to accommodate our group, including fitting an extra guest at the table without issue. The drinks were, as always, outstanding crafted with precision and flavor that only the best establishments deliver. This was my second visit, and I’ve consistently been impressed with both the quality of the food and the attentive service. I make it a point to leave a generous tip, as I believe in recognizing excellence. The staff at Castaway never fail to deliver a memorable dining experience, and their attention to detail, from service to ambiance, is truly unparalleled. Highly recommend, and I look forward to my next visit!
My first time at Castaway, and this venue is phenomenal. The incredible, gorgeous view of the valley, watching the sun set behind the hills, while enjoying a remarkable red wine paired with their top-tier aged steak was truly an amazing experience, one which we definitely will be repeating.
Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming from the valet to the front desk. Our Servers were attentive friendly went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. Excellent Service Thank you Jonah & Teddy amazing. 10stars Food was incredible everything we had was hot fresh and cooked to perfection. The starter tricolor cauliflower was on another level!!!! All around Excellent. ❤
The food was sooo delicious and a stunning view. We ordered the Smoked Tomato Salad and Roasted Half Chicken and not pictured, the Chilled Oysters were so fresh. With the cornbread it was more than enough for my mom and I, still I’m happy with the doggy bag. Slower service even on a Monday night so expect to spend around two hours after being greeted by the host. We took an uber which was easy for drop off and pick up but they provide plenty of parking as well. Overall, our experience was purely delightful.
A Must-Visit Spot for Food Lovers and View Seekers! Castaway truly delivers on both flavor and ambiance. The food selection is outstanding — fresh ingredients, creative plating, and bold flavors that don’t disappoint. Their cocktail and drinks menu is equally impressive, offering something for every palate. What really sets it apart is the breathtaking view — perfect for sunset dinners or a relaxed brunch. The staff was attentive and professional, making the entire experience feel polished yet warm.
This was my first time visiting this incredible restaurant, and it definitely won’t be my last. It’s the perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable date. The atmosphere is amazing, with the option to dine inside or on the patio, both offering breathtaking views of the valley below. The cocktails are expertly crafted, and the food is absolutely top-notch. A truly unforgettable dining experience!
The service was okay – friendly staff and decent pacing, even during a busy time. The food was okay too, with solid flavors and generous portions that hit the spot without any major complaints. Nothing mind-blowing, but reliable and satisfying for what I was craving. The atmosphere was relaxed and the price felt fair for the area. Overall a good experience – I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the neighborhood
Always a great experience at the Castaway whether you are seated inside or on the patio watching the sunset. Was just here to celebrate my birthday and our server, Jesus, was the best! He was so friendly and accommodating and really made the entire experience, from start to finish, so memorable. I had the lobster and shrimp bucatini and it was so good! The Cesar salad is always super delicious too. I loved the fried capers on it. My husband had the wagyu picanha and my mom had the crab cakes. Everything was delicious. We were there on a Wednesday night with a reservation and didn’t wait long for our table or our car at valet when we left. Looking forward to our next meal there so I can try more of the menu.
Five Stars — Beyond Exceptional Service from Jordan at Castaway! From the moment we sat down, Jordan turned what could’ve been just a nice evening into an unforgettable dining experience. His attention to detail, timing, and genuine warmth were unmatched — the kind of service that makes you feel like a VIP without even trying. Jordan didn’t just serve our table — he curated the night. He anticipated what we needed before we asked, offered amazing recommendations that hit the mark perfectly, and somehow managed to make everyone at the table feel like they were his favorite guests of the evening. In a world where good service is rare, Jordan reminded us what great service truly means — thoughtful, effortless, and full of personality. Castaway is already one of the most beautiful spots in LA, but with Jordan as your waiter, it becomes pure magic. If you’re lucky enough to dine here — ask for Jordan. You’ll thank yourself later. 🌟
My friends and I arrived to celebrate our birthdays. We were impressed by the exceptional service we received for both food and drinks. The overall quality of the food was quite satisfying. Although my friend's ribeye was a letdown with its tough texture, the meat sampler we ordered was a highlight thanks to the amazing view, great company, and impeccable service(john). I must admit that the view, company, and service were the true stars of the evening. Of course, the food was delicious as well, definitely worth a return visit.
I’ll never sit with anyone but Jonah again. He made the experience so much better and his energy was phenomenal! He made such great recommendations and I cannot wait to come back again. The service, the ambiance and the whole experience was amazing. Also a big shoutout to Mitch! He, along with Jonah, made sure we were taken care of! 5/5!
My bestie and I came here for Dine LA and a time was had over some delicious food!! We started off with some delicious cornbread and ordered the seafood towers for apps. The shrimp was huge!!!! For the mains, we got the short rib with mashed potatoes and and broccoli. The meat was good and was tender. For dessert, we got the chocolate coffee cake with ice cream. The cake is okay but I would’ve preferred chocolate instead of toffee for the filling. The ice cream was perfection tho!! The speakeasy bar is super cute and I would love to check it out with a date. Claiming it into existence!!!!
Food and drinks were delicious. We had the steak progressive, Caesar salad, and lobster truffle mashed potatoes. Steak was cooked perfectly. Wish the potatoes had a little more truffle but otherwise excellent. Service was very good and I didn't feel rushed. The patio was beautiful and the music wasn't too loud. The tables are a little packed in but no one was tripping over us. Plan for an $11 valet. This was an excellent date night and I would definitely come back.
Just had an amazing dinner at Castaway , and I'm still dreaming about it! I ordered the ribeye steak, and let me tell you, it was cooked to absolute perfection. The ambiance was so lovely, and the staff were super friendly and attentive. I highly recommend checking out this place for a delicious meal and a great time. Definitely a five-star experience!
We loved it!!! The view was gorgeous viewing the whole city and a gorgeous sunset! We ordered the steak and a salad. We got their fries and also some mocktails! Our server Branden N. always was ready and checking in on us and really just made the whole experience amazing. He made our dinner so wonderful and brought us anything we asked for. He knew the menu very well and even recommended us specific meals. Honestly he deserves a raise because he made our whole dinner amazing with small talk and starting a conversation. Totally would recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere and the food because wow I need to come back for both! Everyone was so kind!! <3
Amazing first experience . Our server was JuanCarlos! He was very nice and accommodating. He made our experience a pleasant one . He was timely and attentive. All of the food was amazing . Personally, the salmon was a bit lightly seasoned , however , it was prepared well . The oysters were my favorite. There’s A sauce that comes to with it that’s immaculate. One critique I will give is on consistency. At the start of the meal we ordered Brussels. Toward the middle of the meal we ordered more . The was a difference in the amount of sauce & crispness when comparing first order to second order . We all enjoyed the French fries .
I had an amazing experience and wanted to give a special thank you to Jesus for the outstanding service. From the moment we arrived, he was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made us feel taken care of. His professionalism, great attitude, and attention to detail truly elevated the entire dining experience. Jesus went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, checking in at the right moments and making excellent recommendations. It’s rare to come across service that is both friendly and highly professional, but he delivered exactly that. Because of Jesus, our visit was not only enjoyable but memorable. I’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend asking for him if you want top-tier service. Thank you again for such a great experience! 👏✨
As soon as we walked in, wonderful greeting from Daisy! She led us to our table and was so kind and knowledgeable! Amazing service from Jesus! We enjoyed the New York Strip as well as the oysters and crab cake, amazing food! Came out hot and delicious! This was our first time and we will be back!
I have been trying new steakhouses and I can finally say I found another 5 star, along side boa. This place was incredible. We made a reservation and was seated almost immediately, we had our server Shauntae come to our table within minutes. She took our order and had our food and drinks out to us so quickly, yet so fresh. Normally you go to a restaurant and your server forgets about you or gets too busy with our people, not this time. She was attentive, caring, helpful and most importantly checked on us every so often , we didn’t have to go looking for her because just as our cups were getting empty she was there to fill them, just as we were finishing our appetizers, she was there to gather our plates and have our meals out to us. As we finished our meal she was there asking if we needed boxes. We were seated outside with a beautiful view of the city and sunset. The food was incredible and the service from Shauntea was amazing! I will be recommending this place to everyone!
Ok, let me tell you... this place is ridiculous! I've been there 3 times now and it just gets better each time. I had no idea there was a Speakeasy there till this last visit! Different (but similar) menu. I've been in California for 2 years and I haven't found this combination of food, drinks and the view! Omg the view! I could OMG the food and drinks too! The PAID vacation cocktail is a must! The speakeasy side has a live DJ and is setup as a lounge area with an inside and outside space, with yes... the VIEW! Order any of the steaks and you cant go wrong. Then again, I've loved everything Ive tasted. Finally, the desserts! Heaven and bliss on a amazingly crafted plate! My favorite so far is the Cafe con Leche Lava cake! To die for! A bit of heaven in every bite! You've never tasted something so warm and wet. My friend and I literally savored each bite and the looks on our faces, LOL! Birthdays, anniversaries, special friends and family visiting, this is my go-to!
Had a girls birthday brunch and sat outside with JASON! I would go back especially for him! Very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to help a group of 5 with ease on what to order! Appetizers were a hit, we had the lobster deviled eggs, calamari, tuna tartar and brussel sprouts to start! Delicious espresso martinis from the bartender GRAYSON and then finished with brunch meals. Just a hit and had a blast with a beautiful view! Highly recommended 10 out of 10!
Third time at Castaway. Even with all the LA rain, the view was still spectacular. As some clouds gave way to Glendale and DTLA. Little mishap with my dish. Broccolini was 86, chef decided to use green beans. I was not made aware of the substitution, until my plate arrived. Spoke with my server. About the sudden change. Unbeknownst to me, my server spoke with the attending manager on duty. My dish was taken care of. Beautiful recovery. I’ve worked in customer service, for a combined 20+ years. That is how you recover. I would have returned to Castaway again, regardless. This gesture, makes me want to return even more. Thank you Castaway.
Dylan was amazing! He made us feel so welcomed and educated on everything we ate. This was our second time coming to Castaways, the first was the day of our engagement and here we were two years later, celebrating our soon to be wedding in April and 8 year anniversary. Couldn’t have spent our anniversary a better way, thank you Dylan!
Jonah MADE this experience. He was so kind, helpful and gave the best energy to our experience. I will be coming back just for him! The food however was some of the best steaks I’ve ever had. The Brussels sprouts were enough to end the night on itself, and the bread. Holy smokes, I could come here just for that! Loved the experience and will be back!!
I was not expecting the food to be good because this place clearly has the views and they could just show throw crappy food at me and I'd be like okay. That's fine. At least I can see all these lights. But they didn't. The food was insane. The steak flight was superb. My fish was so light and buttery. The rice was so tasty. We enjoyed our cocktails. We were sat right at the edge of the patio so we had a really nice view and then we saw some people get engaged and that's always fun
Very beautiful place. Went for the first time and it was a great choice. From the moment you get there its very nice. A pond in the front with some koi fish. If your seated inside or outside you get a beautiful view. Our server was very attentive and gave us the best service. Othet staff was friendly. Drinks and food very good. I got the short ribs (delicious) Valet parking only Clean restrooms
This was my second visit, and it was even better than the first. The weather was perfect after yesterday's rain. The air was incredibly fresh, and the view of downtown was crystal clear. The food, as always, was phenomenal. We shared a fresh salad, a delicious pasta, and the salmon dish. Honestly, every plate was perfectly executed. I'm already looking forward to my next time back!
We had a fantastic experience at Castaway! The food and service were both absolutely amazing. I highly recommend the Miso-Marinated Butterfish. The flavors were perfectly balanced and the quality was top-notch. A huge thank you to Karen G. for making our evening so wonderful. Her hospitality truly stood out and made the meal even more memorable. We will definitely be back!
This was our first time visiting Castaway Restaurant, and it was a very special experience because I took my son there for his 16th birthday. From the moment we arrived, everything was amazing. The food was absolutely delicious, and both my son and I enjoyed every bite. Our waiter, Justin, made the night even better. He was friendly, attentive, and made us feel very welcome. He helped make my son’s birthday feel extra special with his great service and positive attitude. Overall, we had a wonderful time and created a great memory together. We truly enjoyed the food, the service, and the atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back and highly recommend Castaway Restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience.
Our family has a great dinner at Castaway. The staff was very friendly and the ambiance was great. The view was spectacular as well. Our server Jonah was wonderful. He was full of energy and very passionate, and he was a joy to have. Jonah was very informative and guided us in the right direction regarding our food choices. The food itself was outrageous. We ordered the Surf & Turf Deviled Eggs which were AH-MAZ-ING. One of the best foods I’ve ever tasted. We ordered the Porterhouse to share and it was cooked perfectly. It sliced easily and tasted like butter. Our mashed potatoes were flawless and melt-in-your-mouth good. The Wild Mushroom Pappardelle Pasta with the fresh whipped truffle ricotta was phenomenal. Overall, an 11/10 experience.
I chose Castaway to celebrate my 21st birthday, and it was an unforgettable experience! It was also me and my girlfriend’s first time here, and she was absolutely blown away by everything from the service to the scenery. The food was spectacular and truly added to the occasion. We highly recommend the Seafood Platter—it was incredibly fresh and a real showstopper. The Lobster Mashed Potatoes were rich and flavorful, and the steak was cooked to perfection. Dining with that breathtaking view of Burbank at night made the milestone feel so much more special. I truly feel like this is a place that will continue to witness the most important milestones of my life. We’ll definitely be back for many more celebrations!
All I have to say is wow! Me and my Husband came here for a much needed date night and it was such a magical evening! He chose Castaway and I'm so glad he did. I feel like they did a remodel or something, because I came here ten years ago and it's much different than the last time I came, even the menu was different. We made reservations and only waited about five minutes when we showed up. There's valet that you need to pay for so keep that in mind. We were seated outside and it was a nice cool night, but they have heaters outside to keep you warm. They have a really delicious cornbread that they serve you right away. I recommend la belle cocktail, it was so delicious and such an awesome presentation. We both ordered steaks and we got mac and cheese and asparagus on the side, We also got the lava cake at the very end. Yes, this was a very pricey date night but overall, it was so worth it. And definitely something we're gonna do every year for our anniversary.
Decided to check out this place while in town to celebrate my birthday. For starters our server Lance was AMAZING!! All of his drink and food recommendations were top notch and did not disappoint! From our drinks to our appetizers, and down to our entrees all of our food was extremely delicious! The ambiance was great inside but we chose outside… that view was stunning. We throughly enjoyed our time at the Castaway! Did I mention how great Lance was? Like seriously a great server truly enhances or diminishes ones dining experience. Keep it up Lance!!
One of the most amazing views you can possibly have while having dinner. Absolutely beautiful place. The entrees and sides are really for 2 people to share. Food was excellent. Drinks were great. Service from the short married woman (sorry can't remember her name) was excellent and probably the best that I could remember. Me and my wife talked about her even after we left. If I'm ever back in the area I would absolutely return. And probably request the same server.😅
had an exceptional dining experience at Castaway. The aged ribeye steak was perfectly prepared—rich, tender, and full of flavor—while the jalapeño cake was truly one of a kind, offering a creative balance of sweetness with a subtle kick. Beyond the food, the atmosphere is unforgettable; the panoramic nighttime views overlooking Burbank are absolutely breathtaking and elevate the entire experience. From the cuisine to the scenery, Castaway delivers a once-in-a-lifetime dining experience and is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking something truly special.
We celebrated my wife’s birthday at Castaway, and it could not have been a better choice. The view was absolutely stunning, setting the perfect atmosphere for such a special night. The food was flavorful and beautifully presented, but what truly made the evening unforgettable was our server, Jonah S. He went above and beyond, was very attentive, thoughtful in his recommendations, and genuinely warm in his approach! His service elevated the entire experience and made us feel truly celebrated. Castaway delivered on every level, and thanks to Jonah, it was a night we’ll always remember. We can’t wait until our next visit!
A truly hidden gem at the peak of Burbank. Castaway also known as Castaway- Burbank is a lavish modern epic den with a beautiful bar, event space, lobby, restaurant, patio, parking and walk up. Photo ops galore, incredible signature cocktails, a versatile menu including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free items. Our server Tyler was/is 10/10 amazing and helped me navigate as a plant-based brunch loving foodie while we celebrated a surprise birthday for my friend Clifford aka Cliff. Enjoying the Crushed Avocado Tartine (Country Toast starter) and sampled a few amazing beverages with our group. The presentation, the layout, the views and the service were all next level. Reservation are strongly recommended as is inquiring about their Speakeasy (the Green Room ;).
My husband and I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while - and he surprised me be taking us for our anniversary! The view is obviously beautiful and the overall vibe is fantastic. Even though it was crazy busy with private parties, a wedding, and tons of guests, it didn’t feel overwhelmingly crowded at all. There was a little bit of a wait even with a reservation - I would suggest getting there earlier than your res time, especially if you are trying to catch the sunset. The hostess was very sweet, but when we were sat at our table we were a little concerned/mildly disappointed. We were sat next to a heavily trafficked staircase, where our chairs were backed up against a wall and a poll. My husband has very long legs, so he had to sit at an angle in order to be moderately comfortable. We also moved the table out from right up against the staircase which also helped. Since it was a special night he was contemplating asking the staff for another table - but I’m SO GLAD he did not. Our server Teddy R., turned it all around as soon as he came up to us to start our dinner service! He was jovial, sweet, and had THE BEST dinner and dessert recommendations all night long. He asked if we were celebrating anything, consistently checked in on us, and made the night feel light and fun! The dinner, drinks, and dessert were of course delicious - but Teddy wrapped it in a bow and put sparklers on it, making our anniversary dinner feel so incredibly special, no matter where we were sitting.
Service and atmosphere are always a hit at Castaway! I just wish they had more options on the menu and that we didn't have to be forced to park valet. Edited on 10.15.2025: I go to Castaway atleast twice a year and went for the second time earlier this month. I was so disappointed by the service. Our waitress was nice, but she was covering us in a different section and was overbooked. We didn't have a drink menu and had to ask for one, then we received the complimentary corn bread and butter and we realized we were given any silverware. Also, when I and left a previous review earlier this year, I had talked about the limited menu options and was told that in June of 2025, their menu was to be updated and it wasn't. The food was alright, it took a long time to come out, almost like they forgot about us. It was disappointing, but atleast the view was incredible. They have space heaters so if its a chilly night it keeps you warm which I appreciate. Parking is valet only as there isn't anywhere to park sicne it's located at the top of the hill.
I've been here a number of times, but this was the first time I went here not for a private event, and the outdoor patio of the restaurant overlooking SFV/LA was actually really beautiful during the golden hour. Service and atmosphere were excellent, and food had some fun twists. My favorite was the fried Sea Bass, mac and cheese and the jalapeno cornbread (but, tbh, I feel like jalapeno cornbread is like, a shoe in with me everywhere, every time). I tried the NY strip and it was good. Oysters were okay. The popcorn chicken was cute looking, but too much weird popcorn ratio to chicken pieces.
Visited Castaway Burbank. The view is definitely one of the highlights of the visit. Perfect spot for a special occasion or just enjoying a great atmosphere. Started with the popcorn chicken, but honestly, I didn’t enjoy it. It was mostly breading and barely any chicken so if you’re looking for solid protein, I’d skip this appetizer. The Parmesan fries were really good, crispy , and flavorful, especially paired with the shallot sauce that comes with the steak. As for the steak, I ordered it medium, but it came out undercooked in the middle and had several chewy pieces. It might’ve been great if it was cooked properly, but unfortunately, this one missed the mark. I’d still consider coming back to try other dishes. The view made it a pretty good overall experience, even though the food was just ok
At the very top at the restaurant, they only have valet parking. So be ready to spend extra money. Lots of spaces but they are not willing to let people park for free. Otherwise be ready to park at the bottom and walk all the way up the hill (this is the reason for not 5 stars) Food and drinks were good. Music was good. The view up there is gorgeous. Highly recommended for a good time and special occasions.
Last night was our second visit to this restaurant. Our 1st was exceptional. Last night, not so much (of course it was very busy for a Wednesday evening). The gorgeous city-lights view and the Starters were exceptional. Then came the mishaps. Our server insisted on pouring my first taste of the wine we brought, which is fine, but then she only made it back 1/2 of the time to pour the rest of our 4 glasses. They forgot to make 1 of our 4 mains. That fish dish came out 15-20 minutes later, so everyone else’s food was cold. 2 of us had the “18oz. Angus, Dry-Aged, Ribeye”, that appeared to be 12 oz. and were slightly overdone. The 2 fish dishes were reported to be great. They do have very good, inexpensive wines. We will try it a 3rd time for a tie-breaker.
Beautiful hilltop restaurant with amazing views of Burbank. This place can accommodate multiple group sizes from a personal brunch to a wedding with all your loved ones. Taking photos with the sunset is a must here. They also have a koi pond that my kids loved. The only reason I took off a star is because the last time I was there, the service wasn’t great. Our group was actually forgotten and weren’t even offered water or anything until one of us raised a concern. Other than that, the food was delicious and would highly recommend.
First time here and loved the beautiful night view. You can see dtla from your seat. Food wise, my opinion, meat fell short of my expectations. Got the steak progressive with 4 different cuts of meat and just was a little chewy and tough. The dirty spinach side is very oniony but order it if you like that taste. Castaway isn't bad just not what I expected. However, I would come back to try some more dishes.
Really fantastic place! Quite the grand entrance to a beautiful layout which overlooks the Valley. We were sat quickly as were the other guests that I could see. My main gripe is the two person seating that overlooks the patio and valley view - it's one long bench that has the amazing view, but then the other seat just looks at the restaurant. It's an awful use of space. If they removed that bench and rotated the tables, both patrons could see the beautiful view. But instead they have opted to squeeze in more tables and only one person with the view.... This also puts the wait staff in precarious locations when taking orders and delivering food. If the tables were rotated, as I've mentioned, the wait staff would have zero issues. Cocktails were spectacular. As was the Malbec. Mac and cheese was delicious. The shrimp was by far the best thing on the plates! The Dry Aged Ribeye was fine. Seasoned well, but too chewy for my taste, I would certainly opt for the Filet next time - and better seats....
We had an overall enjoyable evening at this restaurant, which is definitely positioned in the higher price segment and offers a fantastic location. The view from the terrace is truly a highlight and creates a special atmosphere. A special thank you to Jonah, whose service was outstanding. He was attentive, professional, and genuinely welcoming. You could immediately tell he knows what he’s doing. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff did not quite match his level. As for the food and drinks: the cocktails were excellent. Great taste and beautifully presented, as you can see in the photos. The appetizers and side dishes were on a good level overall. The deviled eggs, fried seafood, fries with dip, and the creamy sides were nicely prepared and well presented. Even the bread to start was very good. Unfortunately, we were disappointed by the restaurant’s supposed highlight, the Tomahawk steak (160 USD). We ordered it raw, and it was served that way. However, it was very cold inside. I understand that achieving the perfect temperature with such a thick cut is challenging, but at this price point I expect flawless execution. On top of that, the steak was sliced along the grain, which made it unnecessarily tough. That simply should not happen at this level. The filet was ordered medium well but arrived medium, which was also disappointing given the restaurant’s positioning. In summary, it was an evening with ups and downs. Excellent drinks, good appetizers, an amazing terrace view, and outstanding service from Jonah. However, the main course, especially the signature Tomahawk steak, left significant room for improvement.
It’s been a long time since I’ve come here. The food and view is still spectacular. Not a fan of how close the tables are to each other. Even sitting outside, it was so loud. Depending on the day and season, they do have self parking. Otherwise, it would be valet only. We were not happy with the valet taking more than 20 minutes to bring our car out.
I have come a few times over the years and the food just somehow still misses the mark. The food should match the views. The drinks are pre-batched so if you like boozy then you will like them. A couple of us enjoyed the look but not the taste. Popcorn chicken was literally just that. An acquired taste. Caviar fries really didn't work and fell short. The cauliflower & brussel sprouts were the biggest hit. Strange how the veggies got the most attention. The tomato salad wasn't flavorful nor did it have many tomatoes in it. The tomahawk was a disappointment! Too fatty and not enough meat for 6 ppl like we were told. We should have gone with the variety meat plate. The pasta was tasty. Dessert was nicely displayed and bday song was nice to hear. Service was extremely on point. Lots of helping hands and nice attitudes.
This is my first time writing a review, and unfortunately it’s because while the food and scenery were beautiful, the service was absolutely terrible. There were four adults and one baby in our group, seated in the outdoor sofa area. From the very beginning, service was extremely slow. Whether it was taking our order or opening a bottle of wine, there were long gaps each time. and most of the time he wasn’t even in our area. We could not get his attention because he was never around. Every single request required us to stop other servers and ask them to track down the person supposedly assigned to our table. The worst part happened at the end of the night during a birthday celebration. We clearly told our server we would be lighting candles on a birthday cake and asked if he could help take photos. He left us a lighter and said yes. After waiting, the cake finally arrived — and he immediately disappeared. He then came back only to take the lighter away, saying he needed it, before we had lit the candles or taken a single photo, and walked off again. I stood there waiting for him to return. He never did. We eventually had to use our own lighter and ask nearby servers to help us take photos. Twenty minutes later, he returned and casually said, “Oh, did you already take the photos?” And He dropped off the check and walked away. Moments later, while we had just started eating the cake, he came back to rush us to pay. This time really fast. When I told him we weren’t finished, he left again — and once more disappeared completely. Later, when we needed to ask for to-go boxes and close out the bill, we had to wait a long time and search for him again.
I have mixed feelings about Castaway I've been there several times w my gf. I'll start with the positives . The ambiance and food is unmatched . The incredible views and ambiance make it a perfect spot for celebrating any kind of event. The wait staff has always been on top of their game and are amazing to talk to . Now the negative. I had a reservation for 2pm on Saturday 2/7. We got there early and still had to wait around until 2:22pm to get seated. The emotionless hostess even asked for my number so they could text me when my table was ready. They did text me around 2:15pm and we still had to wait around a few minutes. I don't understand their system. People that came in after us were seated before us. The hostess appearing indifferent and completely bothered by being at work didn't help the situation. I don’t understand the point of making a reservation just to show up early give my number to the hostess to be contacted when my table is ready then get a text just to wait an extra 10 minutes ! Meanwhile people showing up after us getting seated before us. We were only a party of 2! To summarize making a reservation and dealing with getting seated by a young woman who clearly doesn't want to be there is a 1/5 experience. The wait staff, food , ambiance and views are 5/5 experience Definitely recommend going to Castaway But pack your patience for the seating and reservations aspect of it. It's happened to me several times now. I hope the hostess gets talked to about her attitude
It’s a shame that such an attractive restaurant is not complimented by good food. There are many “rules when you make a reservation here. You can sit at the bar for happy hour but not eat. You can eat at the tables but there is no happy hour. You can pay more for a table of your choice when making a reservation…. Even though the parking is conveniently adjacent to the restaurant you are required to pay $11 for valet parking. The service was satisfactory, no feeling special as did some of the reviews. Drinks were good, presentations clever. Regrettably at the end of dinner we were informed there was no Baileys. What? Really? Perhaps a new beverage manager is needed. That’s pretty basic stuff. Dinner was disappointing. The petite “tower” (a platter) of seafood was frozen, thawed and refrozen, perhaps twice. The crab claws were not edible. With all the choices of fabulous oysters there were Mexican oysters- mushy, small and without character. The lobster had been frozen (I am from Maine, so practiced in fresh seafood). The steaks were okay but the vegetable sides were mushy green beans(canned?) and frozen spinach. The fries were good. The key lime pie for dessert also seems to have come from a freezer- dense, light on the lime, and disappointing. I don’t mind paying over $500 for dinners for 3 if it is worth it. I felt ripped off. If you don’t mind paying dearly for a lovely view and pleasant ambience then this is the place for you. If you want superlative food for the price then shop around. The company was the best thing about the evening.
The only redeeming quality of this restaurant is the wonderful server we had. Every single other person from reception to mangers were unprofessional, underprepared and underwhelming. The whole front of staff made us feel very unwelcome. Please change your reservation slots to not account for the interchange between brunch and dinner if you don’t want guests to come. Do better. Spend your hard earned money somewhere better in Malibu with a better view.
Came here for thr first time for our anniversary dinner. It started out okay, we were seated quickly (at 7:15pm) and the server took our drink order. My wife cant drink as she is pregnant, so we skipped the wine. We asked for still bottled water, sparkling was brought. They did not have bottled water so we settled for the filtered. We placed our order at 7:30pm (filet mignon medium well and salmon with more broccoli and less mashed potatoes), as well as a fresh lemonade. After our order was placed the waiter stopped by our table one time, at around 8pm. The waiter never brought the lemonade. We continue to wait for the food and we see that the tables (4 total), that came 15-20 min after us, received their main dish already. The waiter brought our food at 8:35 pm (1 hr after we placed the order). I was already frustrated at this point but we asked for a couple of pictures which he took. After that we saw him again at 9pm. He never checked on us after the food was served. I had a feeling that the filet was medium rare and it turned out so. I only ate the garlic fries as my dinner. Of course for my wife she received more mashed potatoes than broccoli. I don't generally complain and I am straight forward but this was a complete let down. My suggestion is that if your staff needs training or you are overwhelmed for a Wednesday evening dinner, plan accordingly. I never saw a manager or anyone else stop by and check after I shared my frustration with the waiter. He brought a complementary desert, which I refused. Happy anniversary, what can I say..
I hadn’t been here since my prom in 1983. I had heard that the restaurant had been renovated and wanted to check it out. We dropped in for a drink on a Sunday afternoon about 3:00pm. It looked like the Brunch crowd was leaving when we got there. It took quite a while to be attended to and to be served our drinks at the bar... that should have been our first clue. Yet, we decided to ask for a table. We were given a nice table for 2 with a great view. That was the best part of our visit. We were surrounded by dirty Brunch tables (they sat there for over 40 minutes). The service was bad, everything took way too long. We were served a tepid bottle of white wine. We had to ask 3 separate servers for cloth napkins, water, the umbrella to be adjusted, etc. The Ceasar salad was OK. The swordfish was overcooked and dry. The ahi tuna tartar was nothing special. And the worst part was that everything was overpriced! It was a very unspectacular experience.
Bryan M was an absolute delight to have as our server. It was truly an amazing sight to see how well-oiled the service teams are. Floor managers really put in the effort to be available to take photos for patrons and to make sure things were running smoothly. The reason for the low rating is the food. What a HORRIBLY disappointing way to celebrate a birthday. It’s been a while since we’ve had dinner out in LA, and going in, my expectations of Castaway were pretty high (I was thinking something on par with SW Restaurant at the Wynn or Tom Colicchio's at MGM Grand in Vegas). Charcuterie board ($38): only 2 out of the 3 cheeses made it onto the plate. I’m pretty sure the Rulo was missing. Prosciutto, Tartufo, and Midnight Moon were delicious. Paid Vacation ($22): Fun drink to try while waiting for food to arrive! It comes with a little peppercorn on a stick to enhance the entire experience of the drink. Tomahawk steak ($160): worst cut of meat I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant. 35-40% of it was just pure fat, so it contained a pretty high ratio of inedible food. Asked for it medium rare and it arrived nearly rare. Wagyu Zabuton ($45): decent. It was a little chewy and not as tender as one would expect. Crispy Brussels sprouts ($20): Too oily, salty, and not evenly coated in flavor. At first I thought it was savory, another bite from a different area on the plate was a little sweet. Garlic fries ($13): Zero garlic flavor. Standard fries with ketchup. Lobster & Truffle potato ($29): Good pieces of lobster, but zero truffle flavor and standard tasting mashed butter potatoes. Truffle creamed corn: Basic sweet creamed corn with zero truffle flavor. The restaurant really shouldn’t market black truffle items if diners aren’t going to be able to taste it. The bottled water was great, but $11/bottle. We all agreed we should’ve just gone to Mastro’s. Guess I can finally say that I’ve been here, done that. Won’t be back.
I came to Castaway having heard great things and expecting a solid Valentine’s Day brunch experience. Unfortunately, what we got instead was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had in a long time. Right off the bat, we were forced into valet parking — something that was not required on previous visits. The parking lot was nearly empty, yet guests were still pushed into paid valet for no apparent reason. Annoying, but fine — we moved on. Once seated, things quickly went downhill. We were told the brunch menu was “ending immediately” and that we had a minute or two to decide if we wanted to order from it. That’s never a good sign — no one wants rushed, end-of-the-line food. When we asked about the dinner menu, we were told we’d have to wait… except it was only 2:00 PM and dinner wasn’t available until 3:00 PM. So our options were: rush an order or sit and wait an hour. We ordered appetizers. • The wedge salad was decent, but shockingly bare for the price — barely any toppings at all. • The popcorn chicken was outright bad. Limp, not crispy, poorly seasoned, and honestly hard to finish. At 3:00 PM, the dinner menu time came and went. No check-in. No update. No server. By 3:30 PM, I had to get up myself and go to the bathroom, where I happened to see our server. He said he’d come back to take our order. I told him my wife was ready. He walked away anyway — and didn’t return. Another 20 minutes passed. Still nothing. At 4:00 PM, after flagging him down again, we were finally able to place our order. At 4:45 PM, nearly three hours after arriving, our food came out. • A $70 steak arrived burnt. • The finishing sauce was wrong — and cold. Throughout the entire meal, the server never proactively checked on us. Every interaction required us hunting someone down. To make matters worse, we were asked if we wanted “still water,” then charged for a bottle of water we never explicitly ordered. When we were finally done, I once again had to track down the server just to get the bill — which took another 10 minutes to arrive. This place is overpriced, poorly managed, and shockingly inattentive, especially for a restaurant positioning itself as upscale. The only redeeming quality is the view — and that alone doesn’t justify the prices or the frustration. This was supposed to be a Valentine’s Day brunch. Instead, it was a drawn-out, expensive disappointment. Horrible service. Bad food. Long waits. Zero accountability. There are far too many good restaurants in LA to ever return here.
I am appalled by our server! The food, drinks, setting, and views were amazing, but the server gave us a sour night. My husband asked if she can add “Congratulations” on our dessert and the server agreed to. When he ordered the dessert he had reminded her about adding it, however, she did not. When leaving a tip she hovered over him as he was pressing the option for “no tip” (we were leaving a cash tip) Before he could get the cash she asked if we were dissatisfied with the service. My husband proceeded to get the cash and the server had the audacity to count it and push it back to us. Essentially she declined the tip. We still left our tip on the table and left. I don’t think this server should feel entitled to act this way in-front of customers that is shameful behavior at a high class restaurant. The bartenders were absolutely nice and quick. This female needs to get better training as this behavior will repel guest.
To keep a long story short: the waiter was amazing. My complaint is about the managers. First, when we asked to be seated together at a table that had more convenient seating, they told us that the table was for four people, and because we were a party of six, they couldn’t reserve it for us. But after just five minutes, another party with the exact same number of people as us was seated there. How unprofessional do you have to be to do something like that? Then, after 2 hours and 20 minutes, they asked us to leave because another party was waiting to be seated. The only word that comes to mind is garbage.
We ordered three steaks, each one a different cut, all were tough. The filet mignon pictured below was so full of fat and fibers it was inedible. I asked for it to be medium well and it was rare. Mac and cheese came out cold. Overall, the food for the prices is not worth it. The view though, if you can get an outdoor table, is amazing. We also lost our waiters for a period of 20 minutes.
The service is terrible. From the moment you walk in and being told your table isn’t ready yet anlt you have a reservation. Everything takes forever. Lots of items on the menu are out of stock, and you don’t know about it until later. If you are coming to look at fish outside in a pound while you waiting for 30 mins for your table that was reserved ahead, and don’t have other plans for the day then sure, it’s ok. .But If you are looking for a pleasant overall experience and celebration of a special occasion look elsewhere, won’t get it here. The orders will get mixed up, the wait will be very long, and although they would comp you for some items it’s still not what we were looking for. We just wanted to have a nice brunch experience. Kids meals portions size are sad. Lots of broccoli instead of the sides that we ordered that they were out of, but barely any fish. Never again.
Unfortunately it was a very bad experience on new year’s eve!!!!! Food was unbelievable bad ! Both Taste and amount of the dishes! Main dishes was the meat that it was obviously very old and dry meat !!!! Music bad ! Atmosphere!!!! Price !!!!!!!!!! Not expected really!!!!!! Nothing like New Year’s Eve!!!!
