Wonderful service! We had a excellent meal, everything was clean and we can't wait to come back! Thanks for an amazing moment!
The old fashioned style and friendly service of Black Bear never dissapppints. A mocha shake and a stack of hot pancakes or a plate of steak and eggs is a real feast after my morning soccer matches. The servers are prompt and helpful, the food is fresh and quality, and the atmosphere is just casual enough to be comfortable. Black Bear is a top choice to stop for lunch or dinner with a friend or family if you want to get stuffed and feel great about it.
Food was good, we had a fairly large group, no issues at all. The waiter was on it, he split bill without confusion, you can tell he works his butt off and keeps a good attitude, don't forget to tip guys😉 P.S. Biscuit and gravy are large and fluffy and yummy. Servings are good size.
Wonderful experience! Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful. I had the cheeseburger basket and it was delicious. Hot cocoa warmed me right up. So delicious. Left with a peppermint chocolate pie for later tonight. Delicious, reasonable pricing and excellent service. Can't ask for anything better.
My good friends & I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at this excellent restaurant. Location, ambiance & food were great! A special shout out to our Server/Host Aiden. He was absolutely attentive, personable & delightful in providing us with outstanding customer service during our recent dinner at Black Bear Diner. In these challenging economic times throughout the food service industry, I truly hope the restaurant management recognizes what a solid asset Aiden brings to the entire Black Bear Diner team and overall customer dining experience.
The moment we sat down, we were greeted by our server Omar. He was awesome and went above and beyond by his suggestions. I love those huge pancakes that you guys had and will definitely be back. He was so attentive, honestly one of the best experiences I’ve had in a diner for a while. Give this man a raise.
We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and found a waiting area with plenty of people. The hostess told me it’d be only a ten minute wait and it really was. Our waiter , Laurence, was running around with his head cut off. He thanked us for our patience as he took our orders, explaining that a couple of people called out. I tell you, for being short of staff, management should be proud of this well oiled machine of workers. They helped each other pulling orders off the hot window and serving customers, whether it was their table or not. Team work put to the test and it passed the test. Very good crew. The food was perfect. The chicken fried steak was perfectly crunchy with a well expected taste. He gravy was flavorful with a good thickness, not watery. The mashed potatoes were thick and danced a jig on my taste buds. I would definitely visit this location again. Black Bear Diner has been a lint tone favorite no matter what town we visit them in.
Exceptional Service from Ashley at Black Bear Diner! I wanted to take a moment to highly commend our server, Ashley, for the truly exceptional service we received today at the Black Bear Diner. From the moment we sat down, Ashley was incredibly attentive and welcomed us with a genuine, warm smile. She was clearly efficient, taking our complex order and ensuring that everything arrived exactly as requested and promptly. She checked back frequently—never hovering, but always there when we needed a refill or had a quick question. What truly set Ashley apart was her positive and friendly personality. She was engaging, handled a special request with grace, and made our whole dining experience significantly more enjoyable. She embodies what great hospitality should be. Thank you, Ashley, for going the extra mile and making our meal so wonderful. We hope to sit in your section again soon!
I just have to say what a lovely experience I had at Black Bear Diner today. Our server, Omar, was absolutely wonderful! He greeted us with such good manners and a pleasant smile, which is something you don’t always see these days. He gave us some great suggestions, and I’m so glad we listened. The waffles were just perfect – light, crisp, and so flavorful. And the Red, White, and Blue French Toast? Oh my, it was amazing! Fresh berries, the perfect amount of sweetness… truly a treat. I had originally ordered the Red, White, and Blue Pancakes, but when I saw the French Toast, I changed my mind. Omar was so kind and didn’t make a fuss about the switch at all. He traded them out for me with a smile, which I appreciated more than I can say. He also made us strawberry and banana smoothies, and let me tell you, they were fantastic – so fresh and creamy. It’s rare to get service that feels so genuine and food that tastes this good all in one place. Thank you, Omar, for making our meal so pleasant. I’ll be telling all my friends to ask for you when they come in!

This was my first time at a black bear diner and I had one of their most talked about dinner options the Bigfoot Chicken Fried Steak and to be honest it wasn't huge and it seemed prefabbed as far as the steak the gravy seemed like the gallon cans from the restaurant supply, the rest was mashed potatoes and broccoli and they were fine other that the broccoli was likely boiled in salt laden water before hitting my plate and I wish I would've taste before shaked.
I stopped at Black Bear Diner for breakfast on my way to a mid-morning appointment. I had the Volcano (a Clasic Black Bear breakfast combination). 2 eggs over medium, 2 strips of thick cut bacon, two sausage links, over three fluffy pancakes, accompanied by a cup of coffee. Omar my waiter was attentive, considering there was a group meeting of Toast Masters while I was there and he was the only server! So this venue can serve larger groups. Access is flat and is wheel chair and stroller compatable. Plenty of free parking. My breakfast was huge. You will not leave hungary. Two people.could split this breakfast. I noticed something special about fluffy Black Bear pancakes... While most pancakes get gummy and elastic after butter and syrup, these pancakes seemed to crumble (like cake). My server gave me two pats of butter for three giant pancakes, and I had to ask for more. * Check out the photos
Had great food that came fast, our server seemed tired and irritated to be there which made the experience not as great, but overall, food and comfort made this well worth the stop. My husband's chicken fried steak was amazing and the biscuits that came with his meal were almost the size of my head, it was pretty insane.
Been here the past 2 days food was good service was good. I would say the downside about it when the all you can eat fish on Friday and Saturday after 4pm..I ask for that they said no and it was after 4pm on Saturday. So all in all good food okay service not as packed here like the one in fresno. I also want to add that their red potato mash was the the best I had from any restaurants hands down the best mash out of all the black bear diner I've been in.
Black Bear Diner is always busy on the weekends, you cannot get a table without waiting for at least 15-20 minutes. We went there on a weekday morning, Tuesday to be exact. Coffee was good, water was added to go with it. We ordered breakfast- the Volcano and the California omelette. Both entrees were tasty. The sourdough toast needed a little less butter and the home style potatoes needed to be cooked a little bit longer- they were soft but needed to be more well done. The service was good and the check out process was easy. Nice breakfast place to walk to on the weekends.
Great server and far cheaper than Milpitas.. my wife get her free bfast it was her bday.
Black Bear is usually pretty great for big and cheap breakfasts and this location didn't disappoint! Precious visit I ordered a couple burgers and while they were decent quality they were very dry.
I wanted a late night breakfast meal and black bear came to mind. It was pretty late so the restaurant was not busy at all. I ordered the breakfast combo that came with French toast. Eggs, but I substituted country, potatoes and 2 slices of bacon. Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed by the food. The french toast was dry and bland the potatoes had clearly been sitting there for hours, and they just reheated them on the grill. They were oily and tasted old.I did ask for them to remake them which they did. The only bright spot was My server aiden! He was absolutely fantastic, though he was pleasant kind and provided great service!
Had a nice breakfast with the grandkids. Our server was great with the kids and that is always a spectacular feeling. I think they eat better. Hahaha. Ordered the spinkle pancakes 🥞 always a favorite. I ordered the chicken club. My favorite. Clean and not to busy at the time . So we were in and out in a timely manner.
We waited for our order for more than 20 minutes. People at the next table also waited for a long time and told the waiter about it. The pancakes were brought cold. It looks like the dish was cooked right away and was waiting for everything else to be cooked. In other similar places, they always brought ready-made dishes quickly. The food is delicious.

Menu prices and receipt prices are different higher. Says orange juice is fresh squeezed, but it is being dispensed out of a minute maid dispenser.
Came for breakfast. Ordered steak and eggs medium. Got well done. Sent it back for medium and got rare. This location never gets it right. Only got half our breakfast and when done got the other half.

Id love to say I had the best meal and best time but sadly my disabled mother and I stood in the lobby for about 10 minutes (it wasnt busy) waiting to even be acknowledged. Forget a seat , not even a hello. Then someone comes out to say they are only cashing the people paying with card and left this elderly couple standing there for idk how long because by that point, I was over it and went somewhere they actually care about their service.
A full restaurant and only two staff working Wow I feel so bad for my server sunshine. You can tell she is trying her best can’t see how she is smiling right now cause I would be stressing out. They have a big party and almost every table is full with a wait at the door. The owners need to start caring more about their employees. I would give zero stars if I could for overall experience but 5 stars to the two servers keeping it together. The other server is the guy with the long pony tail
I have learned that on special occasions ie: Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc. that Black Bear Diner may have special hours. So be sure to check before you go. They might be closing early. It's always been a great place to eat. But I guess I was butt hurt because they wouldn't let me eat alone on Thanksgiving. Thats an old school term for "frustrated" 😁👍
What a disappointment. We ordered Thanksgiving to go, when we got home half of our order was missing. The prime rib wasn't edible, very grisly. Did not get our sides and tried calling 4 times to resolve. Spoke with Sunshine who was no help. I understand they were busy, but when you spend $100 for 3 dinners, you should get what you ordered and it should be edible.
Made the mistake of heading into Black Bear Diner for a Saturday dinner. We knew something was amiss when we had to wait for an excessive amount of time to be seated in an empty dining room. Appeared staffing for the evening consisted of two cooks overwhelmed with to-go orders, a buss boy and two waitresses. Took over seven minutes to get drinks, salad was beyond cheap lunchroom fair, and my meatloaf entree was disgusting. Entire plate was cold because it sat in the window for 8-10 minutes The “meatloaf” was thin, dry, and past its expiration. Cheap package gravy had a skin forming similar to jello. The beans were cold and tasted cheaper than standard canned fare. I mean come on don’t by truck “Sysco” beans. In fact it all tasted like cheap Sysco truck garbage. Other plates at our table included fried fish with a stale bread dough coating, more truck meat?. A prime rib that was so thin it looked like carne asada! Truck meat anyone? Only high point was our waitress truly wanted to do anything to turn it around, and she was amazing for the amount of work she had. The manager of this location needs an immediate demotion, and retraining on quality control and staffing centered around guest experience over corporate profits. If all your fare is cheap corporate truck food, good luck to you. I’ll never know because my return seems damn near impossible at this point.
We ordered from the light breakfast menu. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy with bacon. I ordered 1 egg, bacon, red potatoes and toast. The service was very slow because they had health inspectors there. We saw our food waiting to come out on the counter. I practically had to beg another waiter to get our food for us because our waitress was too busy with the inspectors. When we finally got the food it was cold, my potatoes were not fully cooked, I never received my bacon and the toast was not toasted. The only thing cooked was the egg. I told the waitress I was not paying for this and she did comp the meal which I never ate. We walked out. I keep getting notices that your lowering the cost, but if the food isn't worth eating and the service is bad, who cares. I don't mind paying for good food and good service. I usually tip well when the service is worth tipping for. We quit going to Roseville Black Bear for the same reason.
