All I have to say is "wow"! I was super impressed with this little hidden gem. The food was awesome, some of the best TexMex I've had in a while. Service was great, or waitress was very nice and checked in on us regularly. The drinks were reasonably priced for top shelf, and had a ton of cocktail options including infused tequilas. I can't wait to go back!
Great drinks. (5 out of 5) I was really impressed with their tequilas. Food was good but not amazing (4 out of 5). Service was top notch (5 out of 5). We had a really large party and our server killed it. Over all it was a great experience.
Shrimp tacos was great. The classic molcajete was special. Never have seen this dish before but it was the hit of the evening. Also the blue spider bite swirl was very tasty. Good bar scene, lots of margaritas. Hot sauce was hot.
We live right behind Milpa and decided to walk over for dinner tonight. We ordered a sampler and everything was fresh and very tasty. It was after 10 so only the bar was open with self serve chips and salsa. Chips were crisp and and the salsa was fresh. Food came out quick and hot. We’ll definitely be back!
Every time I've been here the service is always amazing. The wait staff are always very attentive and friendly. The food is made from scratch, and it shows. They even make their tortillas in-house! My favorite dish is the chipotle cheese beef fajitas. So tasty! The margaritas can be hit or miss depending on which flavors you like. Most items on the menu are very reasonably priced. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great food I enjoyed the conversation with the waiter and bar staff. I am a very picky meat eater and I tried chicken, brisket, and asada tacos they were all very good but the brisket was amazing. I will try the corn tortilla brisket tacos next time. Very yummy.
Been here twice now. Highly recommend. Amazing food - really high quality, authentic cuisine. Great service too. We only came here because my mom is vegan, and they have some vegan options. But, as a big carnivore, I can assure you that the meat here is great. The alambre skillet is amazing - steak, chicken, onion, and pepper sauteed and covered in cheese and topped with two bacon-wrapped shrimp. The molcajete is great too.
We had a great time with several friends. They were quick to seat our party of 8. Drinks came quickly and our orders were taken.. The tortilla chips and salsas were very good. They also served a white cheese dip that was delicious. All of our meals arrived quickly despite the size of our party and fact that they were busy, our service was very good. We enjoyed our meals. I heard no complaints from anyone. We really enjoyed our visit and dinner. The staff was great. I enjoyed each of the staff that provided our dinner. We recommend Milpa Mexican Restaurant.
My wife and I have been coming here since they opened back in 2008! We thought it was great then, but it's just gotten better and better with each passing year! Their chips and salsa are some of the best! The staff are always accommodating. The manager has been the same guy these past 8 years and he's so nice! You can tell he just wants his customers to eat good food and have a good time.
We hosted a wedding shower here yesterday and had a wonderful experience! Everything was exemplary from the space allowed (half the restaurant), to the food, atmosphere, and service. We had plenty of time before the restaurant opened to set up and if we needed anything the restaurant staff was willing to help with a smile. We were offered something to drink while we worked as well. The mimosas are delicious! The owner and his team are amazing. Always available, friendly, prompt, and flexible. One guest ordered an item that he had an allergy to. The manager was friendly, understanding, non judgemental, and that guests food was brought out promptly afterwards. The food was plated nicely and tasted delicious. The cups were never empty. At the end of the day, all the guest were happy and the bride and groom were all smiles. The owner and his team helped make this experience one to remember.
Absolutely love it here! The people who own this place work so hard and you can tell from the environment provided to the food brought to the table! They have also been so clean and friendly during this whole pandemic to ensure they keep their customers and employees were safe! Thank you for that. Drinks: 10/10 they have such a huge menu of different margaritas and drinks, which seems daunting but they are all quality Food: definitely a huge fan of eating in! They have top choices and fan favorites plus a vegan menu as well! Apps: DON’T MISS ON THE ASADA FRIES!!!
Awesome food and phenomenal service. This was our fourth time dining here, and can say that we are 4 for 4 on great dining experiences. The margarita menu is more than extensive (in a good way), and their daily specials/happy hour serve as the perfect cherry on top.
This place has an amazing menu, both for drinks and food. They have a 100 margarita menu so they have options for whatever kind of drink you're in the mood for! They also have a great vegan menu with 5+ different entree options and they even have vegan queso (which is EXCELLENT) and desserts! I've been here 3 times and have loved the food every time. They serve you chips and salsa to start off with while you browse the menu and the salsa has a very fresh taste. All the servers and I've had here were very friendly. I would highly recommend Milpa to anyone! I try to make a trip here once a week for the amazing food and drinks.
Greatest margarita list ever! They have more than 100 types of margaritas and I have never had one that I did not like. Plus the food is delicious! It is kind of off-putting that it is right off the interstate and connected to a weird hotel but don't let that fool you. The atmosphere, food, and drinks are fantastic!
La Milpa was pretty good. They have Tex Mex, or your favorite Mexican dishes. They have a fabulous margarita menu, and if that’s what you go for, I recommend trying the Pineapple Margarita. It’s great! Sometimes Pricey, but portion and quality is good!
Where do I begin... 100 Margarita Menu... excellent enchiladas... vegan options... and the desserts are TO DIE FOR. I HIGHLY recommend the Sopapillas, the flan, and the cake!!! Ever since our first time coming here I have always felt welcome here! Ana is amazing and super friendly. If you are looking for a family owned authentic Mexican restaurant with a modern flair this is the place. It may be a bit of a wait but it is worth it.
Came in and dined with my five kids and husband. Our first time here and our server, Libby, was extremely attentive and answered any questions we had. She gave us great recommendations and even when one of our entrees were incorrect, she made sure to correct it immediately and checked in frequently. Margarita flights were amazing and so was the mangonada margarita. Food was delicious as well. I will definitely be back.
Highly recommend for all of your party needs. Ordered the Fiesta Sampler Platter for our July 4th party. It was amazing. Our guests are still talking about how yummy it was and such a generous portion size too. The restaurant wasn’t open on July 4th, however they came in on their day off to fill my catering order. I am so glad to have found this gem. Amazing customer service, super close and convenient as well. I will definitely be using them again.
Great food and service. We made reservations for a large group without ever having even seen the restaurant. Upon arrival we were a little nervous as the building looked run down. But to our surprise the interior was better and the server was wonderful. She waited on our large group and even divided up the checks with no issues. Our drinks were refilled promptly and the food was great, especially the fajitas. Definitely recommend.
Great Mexican food option! Their salsa is yummy. They have an awesome variety of margaritas to choose from (seriously, so many)! We recently took my sister and she was thrilled to find empanadas on the menu. The only thing I would improve is their attentiveness to seating people in a timely manner. But the food and drinks are spot on.
I love this place! I've been going since the first year they were in business, and over 10 years later, they do not fail to impress. Try their brisket tacos: the meat is always tender and delicious! And their margaritas are also on point (pomegranate, pineapple, and sangria swirl are some of my faves). My husband and I enjoy this restaurant so much, we had them cater our wedding, and it was fantastic! Jorge and his crew did an amazing job! Definitely recommend this family owned business!
Great Mexican food. One of the best places in town. They have excellent food and great cocktails. They have 100 different margaritas and quite possible the best margaritas in town. The only thing that isn't so great is the atmosphere. It is basically one big room but it is decorated nicely
Quality, authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex dishes. The diabla sauce sat my mouth on fire with just a few drops. The Salmon Mexicano was seared to perfection, accompanied by white rice and steamed, mixed vegetables. Friendly and attentive service. 100 flavor-infused margaritas that are all house-made.
Milpa is my our "go to" place for excellent Mexican food served in a friendly, comfortable environment. The Landeros family knows how to combine all of the elements into a wonderful experience. I would especially suggest the Salmon Al Ajo. At most Mexican places, the salsa seems to be an afterthought, but the Salsa Verde here is spicy with incredible flavor. Lastly, you cannot find better prices. They are one of the things that bring us here at least twice a week.
Pleasantly surprised. We were looking to cater some food for an event we are hosting and, by happy coincidence, found this fabulous restaurant. Here’s the thing, I don’t mind paying a premium for food if it’s great. The food here did NOT disappoint. The portion size is excellent and the food is great quality. We ordered the Quesadilla Asada and the Flautas. My favorite plate was the Quesadillas. The steak had so much flavor and they were generous with the meat. I really wish I would’ve taken pictures… next time. The service was great. However, we were 1 out of 3 families in there. So, today was probably not a good baseline to measure service quality. Overall, 10/10. Based on today alone, I’m going back, and we decided we will be using their catering service. 😊 Hope you have the same experience! Edit: adding pictures of the food ordered on our second visit.
The food was absolutely fantastic! Did a Google search of Mexican restaurants near me and this was on the recommendation list. I had the classic mochajajete. It was GREAT. It had steak, chicken, sausage and shrimp with avocado and green pepper in a hot stone bowl. My wife had asada tacos. My nephew had steak enchiladas. The presentation was great on all the food. Next time I will order the steak medium rare as the bowl continues to cook the meats. Overall the food was great! We had margaritas which were great as well. Very smooth, great flavor. House margs. Chips and salsa, good also. The overall experience was great. Our server was very attentive and was very helpful with the menu. We were talking about how good the food was today, so it definitely left an impression. We will be back for sure. I would highly recommend. I will be going back and trying the rest of the menu. Very good atmosphere.
• 2nd time visiting here!! the prices are a bit on the higher side, but the portions & flavor is always worth a visit & the cost!!💛🌮 • i ordered the quesa-birria tacos, and it was actually my first time ever trying these kinda tacos & i was just amazed cause they were so delicious!! (flavor wise: 100% tasty) • i also had their signature piña agua fresca!!! always satisfied with it!!!😋🍍 • overall love the place, very spacious. love the calm family time vibe, the artsy aesthetic & food!!!🤩🇲🇽🤎👏🏼🌮
Even though the restaurant is no longer a dine in location and is takeout only now (which I didn’t realize before driving 45min), I had such an amazing experience that I had to leave a review. I went in hoping to buy a gift card for my child’s teacher and was initially disappointed to learn they no longer have dine-in. However, Jorge was incredibly kind and helpful. He explained that they have a sister restaurant nearby with the same staff and chefs and offered to issue the gift certificate for that location instead. Since that restaurant didn’t open until 5 PM, he went above and beyond by printing a paper gift certificate on the spot so my trip wouldn’t be wasted. His kindness, professionalism, and willingness to accommodate truly stood out. Customer service like this is rare, and it speaks volumes about the people behind this business. Highly recommend supporting them!
I’ve been here two times now and have never been disappointed. It may look like they have a small food menu but they definitely have all the staples and something for everyone. They do also have two vegan options on the menu as well. Aside from the food, their cocktails are so GOOD! They offer a variety of margaritas (frozen or on the rocks) and have one of the best palomas! My waitress said the Paloma was her favorite and she was not wrong! Speaking of the waitress, the service was great and she checked on us frequently which I appreciate. I would like to mention that I rated this in the $20-30 price range per person because if you’re looking at getting an entree and a drink from the bar, that is what you should expect to spend. An entree alone is around $15. Can’t complain though!
Adorable place, felt like Mexico. They sat us down quick, the place has plenty of seating, it is clean and quiet. The server was excellent in everything and very sweet. The food came out fast and everything was fresh and delicious, authentic Mexican for sure which is the best! I loved my drinks, they were delish and they had happy hour, so even better!
Food was very good. Loved their salsa. They had several large groups which slowed the food coming out, but it was understandable. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and our drinks and salsa were refilled regularly. Overall a good experience and we will definitely come back.
I went to La Milpa for the first time to enjoy Taco Day. There is ample seating, great for children, and group parties. I really didn't check out any of the regular menu items, but the menu is vast - definitely something for everyone. Their prices are pretty par for the course - main dishes ranging from about $8 up, so not necessarily cheap but affordable. They make really good Margaritas, so if you're feeling indulgent definitely try one! The service wasn't great, which for me removes a star. However the Servers are friendly. The ambience is a little rough around the edges in the main dining area, but a little cozier in the bar area to the right.
We have been here twice. For a graduation, they have a private party room and were able to accommodate our large party. More recently for Mother’s Day they provided a free mimosa/margarita or dessert for moms.
Food, drink and service was excellent. Spicy cucumber margarita was refreshing with a bite - loved it. Shrimp tacos also great. So why 4 stars? It was so loud! The concrete floors and walls made the sound overwhelming. Need to add some tapestries or something to absorb some of the sound.
Food is great! They have items on the menu that you can't find at other Mexican restaurants. Price is fair although I was a little disappointed in paying $8 for a cup of brisket queso. They should also have benches at the entrance for people waiting on a table. Wait was 10 min longer than what they originally said. And it was unusually hot in the entire restaurant. Made the wait extra unbearable for us. They have happy hour 4 to 6 on weekdays which I am looking forward to trying.
Great and authentic Mexican cuisine. Delicious birria and asada tacos. Inconvenient to share a kitchen with a vegan restaurant though, have to specify from which restaurants' menu you want. Also, if the kitchen crew from the vegan restaurant is present then the food quality goes down a peg.
Came in for brunch on Sunday. Food was delicious and really plentiful for the price. Had enough for leftovers! The waitress was very attentive and quick to help us even though they were clearly understaffed for servers and had 2 large parties. One note of annoyance is we came in maybe 5 minutes after they opened and the hostess had us wait 10 minutes to be seated because they were short staffed on servers. That was weird. Just put us at a table to wait. It's better than hanging around in the entry.
Our food was great. Wife got the pulled pork tacos and they were great. The pickled onions were amazing. I got the asada de rojo which tasted great. Margaritas were on point (frozen swirl and pineapple jalapeño). Service was quick and attentive. Highly recommend coming to check this out for yourself.
The food was wonderful. It's a bit pricey, but well worth it. I recommend the horchatarita, it packs a hell of a punch! The patio is dog friendly, however if you sit on the patio, be prepared to serve yourself. Apparently there is no outside service and if you want to order your drinks and food, you'll have to go to the bar - there is no service outside. I would absolutely eat there again, but I might choose to sit inside next time! Photo: Hibiscus Prickly Pear Margarita
My husband has been raving about this place ever since one of his co-workers brought him a few months back and since he knows I love Mexican food, he wanted me to try it. We were greeted right away and drink orders requested. I asked about specials and was given a 2-sided paper with 100 options! I tried the raspberry margarita on the rocks and the husband had the sangria swirl. They didn't disappoint. He ordered the brisket flautas, the baby the chicken fajita quesadillas on corn (since he has a wheat allergy), and me the chicken fajita enchiladas with queso blanco. The enchiladas were yummy, with the exception of they weren't hot, just warm, and the cheese overpowered. They'd have been better with a drizzle of cheese. The rice was the best I've ever had! The service was awesome! They messed up my husband's flautas and put cheese in them and got the correct, fresh order right back out with a minimal wait. The baby tore up the quesadilla! There was none for him to take home. The tortiallas appear to be homemade, as they are the thicker ones.
Been wanting to try out Milpa's vegan selection for quite some time now. We started with the nachos, they were really delicious, definitely 5 star nachos. Next we ordered the vegan enchiladas and quesadillas. The biggest negative for us is that we do not like Daiya cheeze. Also, was not a fan of the enchilada sauce. The beans and rice were really good.
The food was pretty good. I had the quesa-Birria tacos with the consume. It had a lot of great flavor. We had to wait a bit for a host to seat us, she was nowhere around, so we had to let the bartender know we were there to be seated. Our server had a great personality and was very bubbly. The salsa also packed a good flavor, especially if you like cilantro. The queso with brisket had great flavor as well, but the brisket was just a chunk thrown in there rather than cut up. Overall it was a good experience!
I came here a few years ago and the food was good, but it had a very nice atmosphere with a large bar, and and you could have drinks while you're waiting for a table. Now the atmosphere is kind of weird, they took the bar away, asked if I can get a drink while I was waiting for a table and they said that is is not allowed, and the restaurant is half full. I don't see why there's a wait. But the food is better than it was last time but they lost her atmosphere. Update, I just had their Taco Tuesday tacos, and they are fantastic! It's hard to find tacos that good in the USA, and the other day I tried there. Caliente enchiladas, and the green sauce was amazing.
The service was the only thing not done well. We waited for a very long time and nobody showed up to seat us. I had to go in and get the bartender to help us. The food was good and the special chicken enchiladas were tasty but not over the top. Tacos were good also with plenty of meat. We had an appetizer of white caso with brisket. The Caso was good however the brisket should have been cut up. It was just a large piece of brisket thrown in with the caso? I say give this place a try. If you're a chip and salsa fan you will love the salsa here.
Pretty decent Mexican place in an easy to get to spot. The food was just alright. The salsa is amazing though! We also got the yellow queso which was pretty good. Everyone at my table got the combos and I ate the beef tacos from them. The tacos were pretty good! The rice needed more flavor. The beans were good! My husband and I ate for a little over $30 so it’s not too bad at all for prices. The atmosphere is also SUPER CUTE!!!!
Arrived and there was no disabled parking. Then there was a fifteen minutes wait for the staff to prepare the dining room. After we were seated, at a dirty table, we were brought salsa and chips, with two appetizer plates, one clean and one dirty. Thirty minutes later we were finally served. The food was wonderful! Very authentic Mexican food, prepared fresh, and still steaming. Service staff was good, not great, at refills and other needs. And the flies enjoyed their flight through the dining area. We have eaten here in the past and things were much better. The owners are trying to upgrade the facilities, and are showing great progress. Strongly suggest that the restaurant needs sound dampening. The noise level sounded like a train station at rush hour.
Went to Milpa for the fist time. Margaritas were good. But the atmosphere was off. It was so cold they never turned the heat on (it was 38 degrees outside). The bar didn’t feel like a bar, maybe they are remodeling I’m not sure. Asked the waitress for a menu and after a while she came back and told me they didn’t have any and for me to look on the website. Just had nachos to eat and they were to salty to my taste. Will try to give them another chance in the near future.
In the past, I’ve really loved Milpa. I enjoyed their nice patio, well-crafted menu, drinks, and especially the easy pick-up and delivery options during the lockdown times and beyond. Recently, I had some family drive to Denton for a celebration here. I was somewhat embarrassed because I felt like I oversold it in terms of food, ambience, and service, and maybe let down the guest of honor. They recently changed their menu, paring it down to mostly Tex Mex standards and drinks, though a few of the more interesting items remain. Everything was good, but not great. There were some gaps in service and communication too that kind of surprised me. I’ll come back but not for something special.
The pineapple margarita was delicious, the queso with ground beef was good, the cheese enchiladas were good, the rice was bland, the ground beef tacos were bland and soggy, the kids burger was burnt and tiny, fries were not cooked all the way and the floors were super sticky from the front door to the table we were seated at.
I really miss the old Milpa, the food I got from the ghost kitchen was very subpar and belongs in the fast food category. The flautas tasted suspiciously like other Mexican food places. Beans from a can and flavorless. Really annoyed that Denton only has three good restaurant options at this point.
Updated October 2023: Service was terrible, with us waiting about ten minutes to even be acknowledged. My date ordered fajitas, and I ordered the alambre skillet. Both were very greasy, but his was chewy and didn't have a ton of flavor. The white queso was very subpar- runny and bland (white Velveeta is better). This is the third or fourth time I've eaten here, and each subsequent visit seems to have gotten worse. I won't be coming back. It's not worth it for the price. Fortunately, its sister restaurant Wild Cactus is still good. I'll still give them my business. ********** I ate here with a friend for happy hour and, out of habit, scanned the QR code on the table and looked at the HH menu (the same they'd had online), and ordered from that. My friend and I were told the menu was no longer current, and the table menu was current. Unfortunately, the prices were substantially higher than those they'd posted online. The food was pretty good, but the queso was subpar. The berry margarita flight was tasty. I would be back more frequently at the old prices!
Good interior with nice ambiance and bar. Nice and friendly servers. Issue is with the food itself, not flavorful even the salsa was not good enough, strictly just good. May be good texmex. Quality of food : 7 Taste and essence : 5 Presentation : 8 Hospitality & Environment : 9 Price-value : 7 Cleanliness : 8 Red’s Final Rating : 7.34/10
First I want to say the old Milpa location off I-35E was our favorite Mexican restaurant in Denton! The best food and we loved the margaritas too. We didn’t realize that the relocation was also a conversion to a virtual restaurant-meaning that there is no place to dine in! It’s pretty much a ghost kitchen for Uber Eats/Door Dash etc orders. There is a little tiny counter in a hallway that you can order at. The employee who took our order was super nice and explained the changes to us very politely as we were confused when we got there that this was no longer a restaurant. The food was good, but it was not the old Milpa’s quality food. I ordered the same thing that I used to order at the old restaurant (carne asada tacos) and it was good-just not the same. The chips included with the orders were stale, and the salsa portion was very small. I’m sure we will still order Milpa’s to go occasionally, but I can’t say it’ll be our first Mexican food choice anymore. I’m sad to see the changes here!
Milpa has been around a while, and I feel bad posting this. The food is just ok- certainly nothing I would crave or yearn for. The specialty drinks and flavored margs all seem good- no one in my party complained. However, I have 2 glaring issues- 1- low stock. No modelo. No bud. No miller lite. No blue moon. No xx draft. This was on a tuesday at 4 pm during happy hour. They are closed Mondays so low or missing inventory is inexcusable. No watermelon for watermelon margs 2- our table and menu were literally disgusting. The table was sticky- not syrupy sticky or spilled food sticky. It was sticky from varnish and years of using incorrect cleaners which have damaged the finish. Napkins were sticking. Plates. Phones. It was nasty. The menus were sticky and readable or cleanish but the words were rubbed off from wiping. It was honestly hard to believe how poor the first things we saw were at Milpa. No- I did not ask to speak to a manager about my concerns. These are systemic issues. A manager either knows and does nothing or should know and is inept.
I was really torn on sharing this review as I really like this place. Service was good, food was VERY good and the massive margarita menu is awe inspiring. Sadly I’ve only been twice and both times struck with food poisoning not an hour later, one of the times my companion eating with me also contacted it. I think such a thing just happens once in a great while even with careful food perpetration and is forgivable, but twice in a row is extremely suspect. It is possibly a coincidence but I find it doubtful. Cannot recommend.
I visted this place at 1900 and they had half the dining room closed because "they only open it on the weekend" so we were told it would be a 10 min wait. Doesn't make sense, but fine. So we waited... staring at a completely empty dining area on one side and several open tables on the "open" area. I asked the hostess if we could be sat at one of the open tables on the open side and she said no without an explanation. After waiting 15 min we were taken to the exact table I asked about. Seriously?
I tried going here because it looked like a nice casual place for lunch. It's nothing like the photos or descriptions. It's now a pickup-only virtual kitchen. With what appears to be other restaurants' options also? I needed somewhere to go eat and I didn't have the option here. The description needs to be changed on Google.
I've had positive experiences with La Milpa in the past but something must have changed since the last time we were here. There was a 20 minute wait while half the restaurant was empty. It must have had something to do with being understaffed, because when we were seated, we barely saw our waitress for the two hours we were there. Our water glasses were refilled once. The food took forever to come out and when it did it was cold. We paid $16.50 each for extremely syrupy margaritas that were so sweet I got nauseous. I liked my food but it was cold and by the time it came out I was not hungry anymore. I will say our waitress was sweet and apologetic about the wait. Which I appreciate. Management needs to do better.
This is only take out place and that's not mentioned anywhere and you won't know it until you drive up and try to get in. The pictures are all from past and I wonder why they keep it still this way.
Was hoping for better. Happy hour taco board took a long time to arrive. Had to request plates. Limes on the board were rotted. Only a third of the tacos were actually warm. They added their credit card user fee to our bill !!!!!! Never seen that before. Some of the ceiling air vents were beyond dirty......yuck. Margarita was good.
Sat at the Bar by myself for a quiet meal. There were four others sitting at the bar and Friends was on the TV. I ordered the Carne Asada with Enchiladas which came with Charro Beans and said the Steak was cooked to a perfect Medium. They ran out of Charro Beans and felt Refried was suitable as a replacement, and nothing they could really do about being out of Charro. The Steak was Cooked to a Beyond Well done, it was served with butter on top that didn't melt because the steak was not warm enough to melt the butter. Steak was tough, not marinated, and was over seasoned with Salt and Salt and maybe Seasoned Salt. I tell the barmaid as I didn't finish my meal my complaints and She nodded like She may have heard this before. Then asks should She get a Manager. Well if something isn't right You should not ask, just go get Your Manager and Chef. I've had Hamburger Steaks with better flavor and less cooked! I won't return, and with the nearby options I recommend You try another spot! Oh and there is No Signage on the building, thought I was walking into a hotel.
They use to be a wonderful restaurant with a great menu and good service. Now they moved they don’t have dine in. I ordered take out and not only was the menu way smaller, I arrived 15 minutes late only to be told they didn’t start my order until I got there. So I waited another 20 minutes for the food.
Really liked this spot a year ago. It was a spacious restaurant with decent food and service, great prices, easy to get to location. It was located inside a motel which, granted, I probably wouldn't have dared stay in, but being there for a meal was fine. The interior was decorated well. Tried to go with a friend today and they have changed locations. We finally get to it which isn't in a very convenient spot and has almost no parking, only to find that there's no dine in and this is now a virtual kitchen set up. No, thank you. I wouldn't order this just carry out, I'd rather go to a food truck and get some really good Mexican food instead of pretty decent.
Pros: beautiful interior, good customer service, relaxed atmospher' food presentation is pretty. Cons: Not authentic mexican food, "Portions for 2" are really for 1, food prices are outrageous. I ordered the mexican volanco and it was upward of $32. Ive had the same thing in various other places with better quality and a more robust serving for around $18-$22. Would recommend if you don't mind the things listed above and would not recommend if you do mind. I personally will go elswhere. Also, the pictures are of the plates we ordered pre eating.
My best friend’s family and I came here for her birthday tonight (a FRIDAY night). After our long wait, we were seated. They did not tell us they were short on staff. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order, but I had to get up and ask someone for a server. They, then, came over 5 minutes later and took our drink order. Once our appetizers were brought out, we did not have any silverware, napkins or plates. Before sitting down and eating at this restaurant, I suggest asking how long you’ll be here:)
I tried so hard to find a way to email this instead of posting on line but I couldn’t find it. Last night (Sunday) we went in to dine for my mom and a friends birthday. I was the one that suggested Milpa since in my opinion you had the best Mexican food in Denton. It started with us sitting at the table for about 10 minutes before we were greeted ( we were the only ones on that side of the restaurant ). Once the waitress finally got our drink orders it took a basket of chips and 2 salsa dips later before we received them. We ordered waters and a soda for everyone at the table as well as multiple bar orders. The bar drinks arrived to the table before we received our waters. One guest asked about their drink and the waitress snarled and said well I am waiting for the bartender to make it.. we finally received our waters and they were all but slammed on the table. The attitude on the waitress was unbelievable. Not one of us treated her with the disrespect as she gave us, we were all trying to be as polite as can be. We received our food, half the table enjoyed their meal the other half was inedible. When asked one guest even asked to talk to the manager and no one ever showed up to the table. When it came time for the cake they did gather the whole staff to sing happy birthday to the 2 birthdays girls which I thought was sweet! It came time to pay the bill and it took over 15 minutes to receive our bills and pay them out. I hardly ever write bad reviews. I usually just brush them off and move on, but I have been to this establishment numerous of times and recommend you to multiple people and was extremely disappointed. The service was the worst I have ever encountered.
Changed my review. Last year their food was AMAZING. Now all I get is fatty tacos, cold food, & store bought chips. I used to love this place, but after then getting my food wrong multiple times, giving me cold food, and more than half of my birria tacos were fat.. I don’t think I’d return. And the service and refills are so slow! Even my daughter said the chicken tenders and fries were cold. Idk what happened but this place isn’t the same.
Wow! Dissatisfied!! I Ordered take out.. my chips were stale as hell and the chicken flautas were rough in middle and dry hard to even consume... I guess it’s nothing like the dine in order experience smh.. almost 40$ for two flauta plates.. 🙄
Pictures need to be updated this is not a restaurant it is to go only. Very misleading building does not look like in google photos. Just a tiny tiny little shop ,
Use to love this place when it was a full service restaurant. Ordered the food to go expecting the same quality. Absolutely not. Salty burnt fajitas. Terrible rice, pieces are burn and hard and greasy refried beans...looks like out of a can. Do not recommend.
Each time I drive by, I cannot tell if they are open, closed, or out of business. There are never any cars in the parking lot. No signs of any lights on. I keep waiting to see one of those big dumpsters that you see when a restaurant has changed owners and is undergoing a redesign.
My partner ordered delivery and I ordered a vegan entree and I was given what looks like charro beans (w bacon or pork) instead of the black beans. I get very sick when I eat pork, as many vegetarians do when they are accidentally served meat. Please be careful if you have dietary restrictions as there seems to be a disregard for these things. I also ordered a salad that was extremely small for the price and was missing toppings promised in the description. I sincerely hope this was a bad night because it is usually pretty hard to find truly vegetarian options for Mexican food where my partner would eat as well.
The restaurant itself has a good look/feel and they did a good job remodeling it. But they had fresh stale chips, canned tasting yellow queso, flavorless meat, off brand tasting ranch and tough meats. Based on other reviews, maybe it was just our visit, but we had a terrible experience. The guacamole was good so there’s the one star.
