one of my favorite bbq spots in the area. the portions are generous and the prices are fair. the barbecue sauce is superior and their sides are amazing. my favorites are the green beans and mac and cheese
Great sliced brisket sandwich at a ridiculously low price. Friendly service people. Open on Mondays, unlike most places in this area. Wife loved the chopped brisket sandwich
Stopped in for lunch on a Monday afternoon and had the brisket and ribs plate with Mac and cheese and green beans. Very surprised to get plentiful portions and great sides. The green beans were also some of th best this Inspector has ever tasted.
Just moved from Raleigh, NC... our expectations were low when we pulled in, but boy were we wrong!! Super friendly staff, and food was amazing! I had the Chicken Country Steak, and my hubby had the ribs, and brisket. 3 weeks here, and haven't had a drop of decent SWEET tea, I found it here! Ordered a few gallons to go! I have a decor thing for license plates, and boy did their walls entertain me! This will be a regular joint for us, as it is delicious, and friendly... WITH A DRIVE-THRU!!!
Food was served quickly and the portions were generous, enough for me to bring home. It was so good I ordered another whole meal to take home for my husband. I will return.
I am a wedding planner based out of Austin and have worked with Railroad BBQ for a few weddings and they have always done an amazing job. This last wedding was one for the books. They were hired to serve guests via buffet (it was ready to go 10 minutes early) and they bussed and kept all tables clear of trash all night. They are incredibly affordable and professional! Great option for BBQ at your wedding.
Excellent sausage, fatty brisket. We ll definitely see y’all again soon. Thank y’all 🙋♀️tx
Cutting to the chase, their Brisket is simply as good as it gets period. The staff is friendly, and the place is pleasant. My only suggestion is don't chop the coleslaw so finely, but other than that, I absolutely LOVED the BRISKET!!!!!! Great jobs guys.
Been eating here for 18 years! Everything is delicious! All the meats are tender & great smokey flavors! I will give them extra kuddos for great homemade style potato salad, most restuarants dont bother and buy theirs from a supplier and I can definitely tell the difference! 😋🥰
My boyfriend comes here for lunch often and spoke so highly of the chopped bbq, we came in today and needless to say it DELIVERED. Not even joking I started to feel like I had a migraine and after eating the sandwich and fried okra it was GONE. It’s so good it has healing properties.
I've eaten at a ton of barbecue spots all throughout TX, and I must say....this is easily in my Top 3 now...hands down. The service was prompt, friendly and courteous. The food...WOW. I got the 2 meat plate with brisket and turkey, macaroni and greenbeans. It was all amazingly delicious. Brisket fell apart it was so juicy and tender. The turkey, no words other than amazing. Green beans and mac, some of the best I've ever had. Definitely coming back!
I was really impressed my first time out. The pork ribs were perfectly cooked and came off the bone easily. They maintained a really good smoke taste, not over the top, and not too much in the way of slathered-on crusty sauce. Their house sauce has a nice traditional Texas flavor with just a pinch of heat. The slaw is reminiscent of a slightly more refined KFC taste, something that suits my taste just fine. Some folks might like a pickled slaw, but this one is much more on the creamy sweet side. Lets talk about brisket! The brisket (I prefer mostly lean) was a solid contender against big name central Texas BBQ joints. It had a really nice smoke flavor, very tender, not too greasy. It paired really well against the sauce and pickles. The green beans, and I love me some, were not a big hit. It could have used some sweet onions and bacon to add depth and embellish the brisket. On the other hand, the ranch beans were solid, not the best, but I really appreciated the firmness of the beans. They were not overcooked, and maintained an almost beefy texture, really unique and something I will definitely go at again. Overall I give Railroad Bar-B-Que a 4.6 (that rounds to 5 stars). I've had much more expensive that was just not as tasty or unique, but there's also been a few that changed the game. For Railroad Bar-B-Que, they are solid and reliable; a good hometown BBQ taste that you can definitely enjoy over and over again.
Is this our #1 BBQ joint? No, but that doesn't matter, it's good bbq. It's local ( Dripping Springs), it's convenient for us (closer to Austin) and the price is good for lunch. My wife and I have eaten here several times for our lunch dates and we have brought out of town guests here for lunch as well. Staff has always been friendly and the bbq and sides good.
Tried this place based on word of mouth and it did not disappoint! The brisket is amazing and does not need a drop of sauce... however their BBQ is also incredible, so you cannot go wrong. My favorite was the smoked turkey. It is cooked to perfection. Definitely will come back!
We stopped for lunch on a Monday, and there was plenty of seating. There wasn't a wait to order our food. The food was amazing, and the sauce on the tables is incredible! I believe we used the entire bottle between three people. I highly recommend stopping in!
Railroad BBQ catered my granddaughter's wedding this past Saturday, August 21, 2021. The food was fantastic. Everyone I spoke to there at the wedding told me how good the food was and asked who had catered. I told everyone Railroad BBQ from Dripping Springs. All of the wait staff were super friendly. Thank You so much. I will contract them again if another event comes up. Juan
The food here was absolutely DELICIOUS. The brisket, turkey, macaroni and green beans were some of the best I’ve ever had. I would definitely recommend eating here if you’re in the mood for some good bbq. Honestly 10/10, I loved it. I would definitely recommend the two meat plate because the turkey is to die for. The staff is also super nice and when I come back to Austin I’m definitely coming back here for their bbq. :)
First time and I was pleasantly surprised how good this place is. They have a simple menu with what you expect from any BBQ restaurant. Loved loved the brisket and the sausage. We also tried the chicken. Whichever you choose it's a win win!
We stopped on our way home from Fredericksburg. Was kinda concerned no one was really there but it was late in the afternoon. FANTASTIC BBQ. Really moist great tasting brisket. I had the brisket sandwich and never seen a sandwich so packed with juicy brisket. Fries, of which I am super picky, were very good! Bbq sauce was tasty. We were worried, as it only had 4 stars, but honestly, I highly recommend this place! Super duper good BBQ and you get your $$$ worth! Very pleased.
This place is great, 8$ huge brisket sandwich that taste way better than bucee’s brisket sandwich? Can’t beat that. I stop every time I’m in Dripping Springs. Staff is always really friendly too and the service is fast.
We hired Railroad BBQ in Dripping Springs to cater our daughter's wedding after dropping in a few times to try the food. We couldn't be more pleased. The food was a big hit with our 145 guests and BBQ was the perfect complement to our Hill Country wedding. Several guests mentioned they were delighted we didn't serve the typical dry chicken entree. Gerald was a pleasure to work with and was responsive to calls and emails. He was patient with us as we made changes to our menu and followed up to ensure everything was in order. His team arrived on time, set up promptly and interacted well with our guests. They cleared tables and took care of everything. They exceeded my expectations and their price per person was great!
We came to Railroad BBQ bc the higher-rated place down the road had a line out the door! We were 1 of 2 people there, but slowly more trickled in. Brisket was ON POINT! They gave me burnt ends like I wanted and ribs 😋 My wife had sliced brisket. Sides were delicious - mac&cheese, coleslaw & potato salad. Gotta try the potato salad!!! Service was excellent! Glad the other place was so busy!
This is the best BBQ restaurant in Texas!! Local family owned and family run! Get the fried okra with the house made ranch. Brisket is unreal! Hit up the drive through on the move or go inside to see a ton of friendly locals who agree with me. Awesome job Railroad BBQ!
This place has probably the best bar-b-q I've ever had out of a restaurant. The flavor has Pit Master written all over it. The meat is seasoned perfectly to the point where you can feel the heat but its not too much. Nothing was dry or NEEDED sauce. It was moist and very tender.. Sides were great and the sauce was a perfect complement to the whole meal. I suggest try a bite of everything so you can fully understand what I mean before you slather that sauce all over it. Either way, I can't wait to make the hour plus drive back here.
Railroad BBQ did a fantastic job at our wedding and we highly recommend them! They were so professional and the food was delicious. They showed up in their van to no fanfare and got right to work setting up the serving line. We had 120 people to feed and an hour set aside for dinner. They had everyone through the line within 20 minutes, and everyone we spoke to said they were able to eat to their content before the line closed, so no complaints with their service and efficiency. And the food was fantastic. We have tried most of the BBQ joints around Austin and have pretty high expectations for BBQ. At the tasting we chose the brisket, sausage and turkey, with the latter 2 being the standouts. But the brisket they actually served at the wedding was outstanding, and the sausage and turkey were so moist and tasty, with the sides being just as good. And the added bonus was their price for everything, including their cake cutting service. They were a few grand cheaper than some of the bigger name Austin BBQ joints for, in my opinion, the same quality food and better service. All in all we are giving them 5 stars as they exceeded our expectations in all respects and really helped make our wedding great.
Good mesquite smoked BBQ joint. The brisket was moist and well cooked, the sausage was very good, and the sides were nice. In a state crowded with world class BBQ, Railroad can certainly hold its head high. Best in Dripping Springs by far.
Great BBQ and excellent service... Totally unstuffy and just a great place to enjoy great food... Love the coleslaw too!
This is the best BBQ brisket anywhere on earth. I have tried BBQ across the entire USA and nothing compares to this place. I drove an hour out of my way to come here and took 2 lbs to go because it is so good. Slow smoked, super tender, no fork or knife required, it almost melts in your mouth. Worth the trip every time!
Ordered through the favor app after seeing the great reviews. Spoke with 2 people on the phone and was impressed by their patience and help with my order. Food was great! That and the excellent customer service will keep me coming back. Brisket was awesome!!!
My girlfriend had a doctor's consultation in Dripping Springs, and we needed to stop somewhere to eat afterwards before driving back home. The staff was friendly, the prices were reasonable in relation to the amount of food served, I had the three meat plate with two sides, my girlfriend had the salad and the loaded potato, which she enjoyed. The brisket and and sausage were good, but the barbecue chicken was the best of the three, the best barbecue chicken I've ever had, the barbecue sauce on the table was also the best I've had in a restaurant - not too sweet nor too spicy or tangy - and the sides of potato salad and cole slaw also struck that same balance. We live in northwest Austin so it is unlikely we will come this way again but if we do, this is definitely a candidate for a return visit.
here is what you need to know before coming to this location it's a little tricky because traffic wise you want to be going on the eastbound lane versus the westbound Lane with no middle lane so carefully find a way to get over If you have to into the trailhead entrance to them be able to just get a parking spot in this wide open community center that's mostly got empty spots From there once inside just got to pull at the door really hard The door's like really stubborn going to get past that definitely handicap accessible with separate restrooms for men and women right at the entrance they got to pay attention to the funny chicken rooster cow signs for men and women's restrooms laugh out loud From there ordered slow cooked smoked sliced brisket that was worth every penny and definitely at a more affordable price for this high quality of beef and their barbecue sauce I cannot say enough good things about they only have one kind of barbecue sauce they each table along with napkins and an area for your soda drinks and utensils that found extremely convenient and convenient for the tray as well The time I took the order from a hospitable gentleman at the front to being served almost immediately with pickles and onions that were also fresh and high quality I could definitely say this is a high-end barbecue joint that I would definitely keep in mind that's underrated The barbecue was exactly how I like it coming from West Texas almost melting your mouth Franklin's kind of good with the barbecue sauce and I'm being too strong on the front or back end but just the right amount of sweetness and spice without a whole lot of what tasted like did not taste any corn syrup or modified fructose corn syrup highly recommend this location in the future
Very good! We had the two meet plate it was more food than we had expected! Great price, great people! We'll priced BBQ!
Great food for a good price as well. Had a one meat plateaitj brisket and it was filling. Good sides and a delicious local BBQ joint!
Best BBQ in the area! Everything here is delicious. Brisket is always juicy and tender, ribs fall off the bone good, and the sauce is great too! Love to support a local family owned business. We all grew up here and went to school together. It's a great place!
When it comes to BBQ, I know Texas is King — and trust me, I've tried plenty of spots across the state. Opinions may be like belly buttons (everybody’s got one), but here's mine: Railroad BBQ is solid. The flavors are consistently rich, smoky, and downright satisfying. From brisket to sausage, everything is cooked just right and served up with a side of Texas pride. And let’s talk about the fried okra — hands down the BEST I’ve ever had. Crispy, golden perfection every time. It’s reason enough to swing by, even if you're not in the mood for meat (but why wouldn't you be?). The service here has also been top-notch for years. Friendly faces, fast turnaround, and folks who actually care about getting your order right. Railroad BBQ has earned its stars and then some. Don’t sleep on it.
We were pleasantly surprised by this place. Brisket was moist, ribs are great, sausage was good. Someone mentioned in a review that it was bland, it’s definitely not. It’s just not over seasoned like a lot of places around. But that’s what central TX bbq is about, you let the meat speak for itself. Sides were solid too, except the mac and cheese, which is nothing to write home about. Overall, clean, fast service, food is great!
Very pleasantly surprised! Ate in with my family and we were really happy with all the meats we got. The potato salad and mac and cheese were very tasty. I wasn't a huge fan of the BBQ sauce, but the meats didn't really need them to be honest. Will definitely be back for good BBQ at very reasonable prices.
Was honestly impressed but the food. Had avoided coming here as it didn’t look appealing but finally gave it a try and boy was I wrong. Their brisket was absolutely flavorful and moist. Chicken was chicken and huge portion of it! Beans were decent and the mac & cheese was on point. Sadly they were out of ribs. I’ll try them next time! Came back a week later and the ribs were great, nice and meaty!
Typical BBQ place as far as atmosphere goes. The star of my night was the loaded baked potato with chopped beef. The potato was smokey and well cooked. The beef was tender, smokey, not too much sauce, the sauce wasn't too sweet. I got my meal to go and put it together at home. I will absolutely be back!
Stopped in and had lunch on Friday afternoon. We ordered brisket and ribs, both done to perfection. They serve generous portions of sides as well. Overall, meals were delivered to us quickly and with a smile. The staff was knowledgeable about their product and were very helpful. Would go back there in a heartbeat!
We stopped here on a really nice sunny day and were able to eat outside on their patio and watch the cars go by. It was extremely comfortable and relaxing and were able to let our little dog sit with us. The stuffed baked potato and large brisket sandwich were just amazing and the cold Coke to wash it down made it even better. Their barbacue sauce was homemade and very very good. I highly RECOMMEND this place and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did. So happy trails and dont forget to stop in and eat.
I'm a San Antonio girl so I am a Rudy's girl by heart but this place was good. I had the brisket and it was very tender. It was falling apart in my hands. If I ever get back up there again, I will definitely be going back to Railroad.
BBQ sandwiche was good. Like Grandma used to make. The only issue I had was the bathroom stall has no door. Otherwise prefer to another local BBQ place
We had a loaded potato stuffed with chopped beef, sour cream, butter and cheddar cheese. One would've been enough to share but we valiantly did our best to finish the two we ordered. Yummy. They have crushed fluffy ice, too. Going back next time we are in Dripping Springs and hungry.
Good barbecue and a good price compared to the others I’ve been to. We only chose to have the brisket and the sides we wanted they were out of as it was at the end of the dinner rush probably, next time I want to try their sausage and their green beans and Mac.
6.5/10. Overall very good food. Brisket was well executed, smoked turkey and sausage as well. Sides were generic. Beans overcooked, breaking down almost refry style. Potato salad was good but again, not outstanding. Coleslaw was finely diced, not shredded, sweet, not an acidic vinegar heavy sauce. Would stop again without hesitation. In an area of the country that is saturated with great BBQ, my expectation is that any meat will be good with slight variation in establishment. The sides, for me, show the creativity and care taken in preparation of food overall. If you're a sauce person, their is sweet with a smoky bite, very good.
Good BBQ, fairly priced. Ordered 2 meat plate. Pork ribs and brisket were both very good. Sides of potato salad and beans were good; beans could use more flavor. Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially amidst the Corvid re-opening. Enjoyed it and would go back.
Had the three meat plate. Brisket, jalapeño sausage, pork ribs, along with green beans and Mac n cheese. Everything was great. Brisket was tender and moist. Pork ribs had a great bite to them, yet falling off the bone. Sausage, it's sausage🤷♂️. Not too busy service was great.
The child’s chopped beef on bun was and is always superb. The meat was moist, excellently flavored and generously heaped on that bun. Not one chunk of “fat filler” in my chopped beef today or ever that I can recall. And that makes this Mama happy! The fries were tasty and served hot. I only got about 12 fries today which was about 1/2 the amount I usually receive. Hence my ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Food review. However, I will still return for another chopped beef. The soft drink was good, and I love the crunchable ice. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Atmosphere only because The tv by the serving counter is still not on, and I used to watch it. They still have other working tv’s, Fyi. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Staff review They were prompt, courteous and helpful as always. We like ‘em. 😊
Meats were great. Sides were average. The sauce was very sugary imo. The good news is the meats stood on their own without it. Service is your standard order at the front, and they call you up to pick up your plate style joint. Drinks are self-serve. So, there's not much to it, but everything was fine. Atmosphere is your typical try to make it look like a barn kinda place. There is nothing wrong with it but nothing special. It's clean, smells like BBQ, and has everything you need for a good BBQ experience.
Flavors are great. Service was okay.Potato salad was good. Onion rings tasted good but over fried.they weren’t yellow or just right. All the meats turkey, pork ribs, and brisket were tasteful but dry.It would be great if they were fresh specially because we stopped by around 1pm so we expected fresh tender and juicy meats. Very clean place! Feels good to walk into a clean food establishment and the restrooms were no exception. If the onion rings were fried right and the meats tasted fresh off the pit they would have gotten 6 stars!
Came here for a weeknight dinner, the place was very empty so we were a little hesitant to try at first. The staff was very pleasant and it was quick service! Honestly, the meat was DELICIOUS! We tried brisket, sausage, chicken, ribs and turkey! They were all moist and flavorful and you didn’t need sauce! The sides, however, were mediocre and tasted like store bought. We will definitely most likely order takeout for the meats in the future and make our own sides at home! This place is worth giving it a try, I hope they get busier!
Just did a pick up order but the the food was quite good! The turkey, fries, coleslaw, okra, and baked potato were top notch. The brisket was a bit under seasoned for me so 4 stars on that, but overall, very solid.
Turkey has superb flavor ,was moist and thoroughly smoked. Brisket was lean, somewhat dry and almost tasteless. Used excellent BBQ sauce and ate every slice. Vegetables were well prepared & tasty.
Very average barbecue. Almost exactly like Bill Miller.
I'm quite the expert when it comes to good BBQ. I've been called the Abraham Lincoln of BBQ reviewers. I'll break this down into categories. Food: The "moist" brisket was dry but good, no smoke or special flavor to it. Green beans not seasoned or flavored much. Baked beans were bland but edible. Sweet tea is ON POINT. BBQ sauce was a good consistency with decent flavor. Service: Cashier was very friendly and they got me my food quick. Price was very reasonable. Atmosphere: Typical hill country BBQ dive, country and warm. Has a good smokey smell to it.
Came here for a railing they only make food food was kinda mid
The texture on all the meats was spot on, but that's not the first (and most important) thing I look for in BBQ. The flavor just wasn't there on the ribs or brisket. The Turkey was nice & the sausage had a good spice, but i really had to lay on the sauce to finish my plate. Maybe it was an off day for the pit crew, but there just wasn't much to write home about or remember tomorrow.
Not very impressive. Their jalapeno cheddar sausage was pretty good, but the brisket was dried out and I was told by someone in our group that the chicken tenders tasted like they had been sitting in a freezer for 6 months.
It’s a cool place, but for being in central Texas the food is very mid. Very doubtful that they smoked their own brisket. For the price point, the food should be better or they should drop their prices.
Good BBQ. I had the pork ribs and brisket plate. Ribs were very good and the brisket was average. Brisket was tender but a bit bland and dry... like it was oven roasted rather than wood smoked. Beans were very good but the potato salad was mustard-based and tasted like bulk wholesale product. Anyone who says this is as good as Salt Lick is wrong. It doesn't come close. I recommend this place for good local BBQ, but I will not go out of my way to eat here again.
It's OK. The place is always clean, the service friendly and professional. The food itself is just OK. There seems to be an inconsistency. Sometimes the brisket is dry, sometimes really moist, same with the ribs. I have been eating RR BBQ for the past 18 years since I moved to Kyle TX, and then to Dripping. Would I eat here any day of the week? Sure. Is this my favorite BBQ joint? Nope. They have serious competition down the road, and all around the surrounding counties. Do I have any serious complaints about this place? Nope.
Friendly staff. AMAZING smoked turkey. Great sweet potato fries, good onion rings Brisket meh. My wife and had both the same turkey and brisket plates. But her brisket and mine were so different if I didn't know better I would have said they were from 2 different restaurants. Here's was moist and delicious mine was jerky dry a WAY over peppered, I like some crunch on my ends but not cracking peppercorns with my teeth
3 Stars... They have kids running the restaurant which is never a good thing. The food was good but not "Slap yo Mama" good. Some of the brisket was moist and some dry. But my wife and I had a quite meal due to the place being empty. The kids are always not wearing gloves. I wasn't blown away by the food was decent.
The food gets by on being fairly affordable, if unexciting, BBQ. The brisket, the sauce, and the beans were all fine but uninteresting. Acceptable for a $13 plate, but not really someplace you would stop twice.
So, first I read the Google reviews, then those on Yelp! Vastly different, I walk in @ 3p and the place is empty, I'm thinking, turn around now! But then I said maybe it's lunch and dinner wherw the Googlers reside, take a chance. Had the 1/2 lb of jalapeno and cheese sausage, not bad, wouldn't drive for it, or have it delivered, but not terrible! Bathrooms arw great, clean and spacious. If you're working in Johnson City, all the famous spots and you don't want to drive 30 miles, give it a shot!
Quaint little BBQ spot. Quick and friendly staff. Had the loaded baked potato with brisket. Definitely filling. The potato was perfectly cooked. Came with a ton of cheddar. The group I was dining with had the lunch special it was a brisket sandwich. All enjoyed.
Not bad. To compare this place based off of its location then it was really good as this place was packed and obviously a local spot that families come to enjoy the food and atmosphere, I got chicken fried steak and brisket as well some Mac and cheese with chocolate chip cookies. For it's area as well the cost also the quality good, the menu was simple but to really look into it and compare to other BBQ establishments this one was Mediocre first the brisket had no flavor as it may be tender and fall apart but no seasoning? Even taking the rest home and heating up the next day. No flavors to be found. May have the smell of BBQ and tenderness but not worth a second time, the chicken fried steak even though it was "fresh" the lack of seasoning and the gravy was like was water with some cream mixed in, the fries were just made but no salt. If this was in Austin or any bigger city it would fall with the main issue's I see with this "BBQ". For it's area its good when you want BBQ
So, we stopped by for a bit when passing through. Please don't let the 3 stars turn you away, and read to the end. The brisket and sausage were moist. We had the fresh cut fries and onion rings for sides that were great. One kiddo had the corndog and one kiddo the chicken strips. There was also a kids chopped beef sandwich. The sweet tea was spot on, and the unsweetened was pretty good, maybe a bit over brewed. The staff seemd nice. The bathrooms were clean, but only one person at a time. The place a spacious, and they had outdoor seating if you were worried about being too close to people. So why only 3 stars? The meat was good, but it was borderline 4 stars. Wait, you said the sides were great, so again, why 3 stars. Well, the sandwiches were served on straight up bread. What? Yes, I'm being picky, and I probably would've done 4 stars, but I had to say it. A BBQ sandwich deserves a bun or Texas toast. If I wanted bread, I would ordered the plate. I meant to ask, because they may have been out of buns. Beat me up if you think I'm too rough on my post, but don't hesitate to eat here for some good BBQ. I want to make one more point about the hygiene comment someone else made. If you have an issue with someone meeting your expectations to meet with CDC guidelines at a restaurant, you need to stop eating out. As a person who was in the food industry for almost a decade, you can only really control your staff and your food. If you are concerned, don't slam the owner here. Talk to the owner, but with an open mind on what he or she truly has control over. Also understand that every restaurant has a bad day. If it is routinely bad that shop will disappear based on the clientele choosing other options.
We came based on the 4 star reviews, but were incredibly disappointed with our meal there last night. Staff was friendly, but not great communicators. The food was terrible. Ribs were cold and tough, and the "moist" brisket was dry.
They ran out of Mac and cheese with two hours left until close. They wouldn’t let us substitute fries even though they were out of their most common sides. The meat was tough without much flavor. The jalepenos were cold on the inside, obviously they were microwaved. I did not feel like I was treated like a valuable customer, 2 stars is generous
Not one of best BBQ places I've been to. The environment was nice and the staff friendly, but my chopped beef sandwich was hardly even warm. I had to ask them to heat it up and that helped. We really wanted chicken strips, but they were out. I also got sweet tea that wasn't sweet. They said they hadn't added sugar yet and suggested I get packets of sugar to sweeten it. I did, but it wasn't anything like sweet tea that's been mixed up.
We came in on a Saturday night, 2 hours before close. They were out of Mac and cheese, which is my favorite but that's ok I got sweet potato fries. Then they were out of ice, and sweet tea so I got root beer, which was flat. I ordered a turkey sandwich on a bun and it came on bread, my husband ordered the chopped beef on BREAD and it came on a bun he also ordered no onions and of course, it had onions on it. Overall just not a good experience they were NOT busy either and there were too many mistakes and issues to give this place a good review. Also, the food was not good either it tasted stale/dry. It's only getting 2 stars because the sweet potato fries were delicious.
Meat was way too salty. Meat was way too fatty. It did not come with barbecue beans, came with very sad green beans, mac and cheese was okay, coleslaw was okay, they did not have deviled eggs. It's just mediocre.
Revised from 1 to 2 stars. Sunday Eve driving back to town hungry, decided to give another try due to no other choice. This time staff was friendly, brisket was not dry, potato salad was very different and better. If not for my first experience I would give 3 stars. May try again sometime this year. Not trying. Yet another Dripping Springs eatery that just does not seem to put forth more than the absolute minimal effort. Upon entry, I found no menu posted. The only menu is on the counter where you order. So, each person has the opportunity to hold up the whole line (if there ever is one) while deciding on what to order. When I was ready to order, I was not greeted or asked what I wanted. I placed my order assuming the worker was ready for it, and I was not thanked for my business. Basically the person did not speak except to tell me how much I owed. The brisket sandwich was dry. There were no pickles or onions as mentioned on the menu. The old fashion bread was just ordinary sliced white bread. The potato salad was okay, but had some giant chucks that I had to cut to fit into my big mouth. Seemed like it was prepared in hurry or carelessly. I was very unimpressed by this place and will not return, sad because I drive by it nearly every single day. There is a BBQ food truck just a block or so further down that has excellent BBQ. Sadly, Dairy Queen continues to be one of Dripping's top places to eat.
I came here with a friend on Black Friday, we were traveling to Johnson City and saw that this place had 4 stars (it was empty and not many people working this day, which could have contributed to the blandness of the food). I dislike giving bad reviews, but the only enjoyable thing from my plate was the macaroni and cheese. The sausage was hard and felt like rubber, the brisket not as tender, and my beans were cold. From my picture it looked so good and I had high hopes, but I left almost everything on my plate at the end.
Ugh. Drippin' has awesome donuts, fantastic coffee, but has no BBQ! Tried a healthy helping of brisket, turkey, and ribs. Not a smidgen of smoke flavor, and the consistency was...day-old, at best. I soooo wanted to like this place. Maybe it was an off day? Maybe. But every time I drive by, I don't see smoke coming from the place. A smoke-free BBQ joint? Again, maybe I'm just hitting it at the wrong time....
The name is a complete misnomer. There is no BBQ here and I determined there to be no railroad either. Brisket should be smoked - not boiled as I suspect this BBQ was. I did say boiled. The meat was gray and the flavor totally unremarkable. Many reviews lauded the generous portions here. I am personally not inclined to give a restaurant a pass because they served an awful lot of bad food. Keep driving to Austin - many better options....
One of the worst chopped bbq sandwich I’ve ever had. On par with a convenience store bbq. If not for the fact my family was 10 miles down the road I would have turned around. So much grease had to double on the drop cloth. Ate about a 1/4. Ruined a good pair of shorts due to the grease. On a positive note tea was good as was the fried Okra. Sorry to bother the staff. Not very friendly. Will not stop again.
Give them a rating of a 1. The previous time I ordered 4 large LEAN slice beef sandwiches. I cut enough fat off those, to make a sandwich and a half. This time out of sausage which is understandable. So I ordered a large lean slice beef sandwich ,no pickles or onions. Got to the truck to check it out, bread no bun. Covered in sauce. If I would have known I would have said sauce on the side. They put more sauce on the bread than they do on there buns. Soggy nasty sandwich.
This is now the second time in the past 2 months where we used the drive theough and did not get quality when we got home (15 minute drive). We ordered specifically 1-lb of moist brisket, got home and there were 4 slices that were moist but the over 1/2 remaining pound was dry, burned, too-tough to chew end pieces. Perhaps if the kids working would have stopped screwing around an paid attention, wewould have gotten what we paid for!!! I have pics of what we received but doubt anyone cares by management.
Call ahead if you're going to try and stop here. Apparently their business model is open until the meat runs out. We got there at 4:30pm on a Sunday (closing time on Google says 8pm) and all they had left was jalapeño sausage. We decided to stop here for the overwhelmingly positive reviews. Too bad we weren't one of them. Whataburger down the road saved us from a bad time.
Look elsewhere for catering. We used them for our wedding recently and two weeks after the wedding they emailed us that they need to charge us $800 more. They said that 165 people showed up and they had to get more food, when in fact our guestbook shows 131 people and we paid for 125. We also only had 130 plates and 130 seats in the reception room. And the venue confirmed that there were only about 130. Then Railroad BBQ emails us back saying that they think it was actually 195 people! They went up! And claimed they had to go make several runs for food. But the venue never saw them leave for more and they never mentioned anything at the wedding to our wedding coordinator or parents. We emailed them asking if we could meet in person to discuss this difference of numbers, and their response was "you don't have to meet us in person to pay, you can simply pay online." Unbelievable. This is a disgrace of a business. Do not use them, please consider elsewhere.
The first thingI noticed when I pulled up was the lack of the smell of oak burning in the back. But I easily convinced myself to give it a try anyway this is definitely not central Texas style barbecue. The fat was not rendered down-and I believe the brisket May have been broiled. To each their own but not my idea of Texas barbecue
Ate here on a whim expecting to be wowed. Sorely disappointed and disgusted instead. I ordered the brisket plate and my husband ordered the chicken fried steak. Got our food quick enough. My husband's CFS was piping hot, he took a bite proclaimed it delicious and offered me a bite. I agreed it was good. I took a bite of my brisket and realized it was room temperature, but it had a good flavor so I was willing to forgive that. I took my piece of white bread and set it on the paper on my tray and dug into the meat. I ate all of my brisket, a few bites of the potato salad and coleslaw. Then I reached back for my bread and discovered it had a short straight black hair on it (possibly an eyelash?). Then I looked at the white paper on the tray and saw what looked like a couple of straight, black, hair clippings. I don't like confrontation, so I did not complain to the staff. I REALLY wish I did. They were not busy at all, but seemed like they really didn't care that we were there after we already paid. Save yourself a trip, do not go here! Salt Lick was 100 times better and there was NO hair in my food.
Brisket was the worst I have ever had. For real. I usually eat it without sauce wherever I go but it was so bland. Like really bland. So I put some sause on it and it was so salty I couldn't even finish a bite. $17 For that and 3 pork ribs that seemed like they were reheated from the day before. Super nice people and great service but food was awful. Avoid this place.
A few weeks ago we visited RR BBQ while the BBQ wasn’t the best we’ve had we were hungry and decided to try it out. The reason I’m giving 1 star is because of the Manager and Owner. We left our stroller in the parking lot, accidentally, so obviously our fault. A nice customer brought our stroller in to them to hold. I know this because the great employee who should be the Manager told me it had been sitting in the managers office for days. Then he called me back and said it was gone. I went there and asked to speak with the Manager who wasn’t mean but also wasn’t nice and he told me that it’s the property management who I need to talk to but I told him his employee said the stroller was in his office. He had lied to my face. It was many calls later and many emails to the owner who never emailed me back, that the manger said he threw it in the trash. Who throws a stroller in the trash!? Do they honestly think I believe that? The Manager and the Owner aren’t decent people. I wouldn’t eat there again if my life depended on it.
