It is on the first floor next to Skyview grocery store , very beautiful inside. Food was great.
Good food, busy during rush hour, be ready to wait 10-15min. Soup pork dumplings are good, must try, 5 per order. Beef fried flat noodle is better than most places I have tried in Flushing.
I love this place! My go to dishes are: X. Salt and pepper pork chops. They're crunchy and very generous in portion size, even for take out. X. Flower clams. So saucy and flavorful with undercurrent of spiciness. X. Cabbage in hot chili oil. The sweetness of the cabbage matches well with the chili oil. One day I'll be brave enough to try the actual chili. X. Beef chow fun with sauce. Rather than the dry kind (which they also do well!), this version has the sauce on the side. It's my favorite thing to order here and no place does it better than here. X. Jellyfish appetizer. It's crisp, has acid, has spice, all around, just so delectable. X. Sizzling steak. It smells amazing and tastes the way it smells. Pros. 1. Friendly staff. 2. Humble pricing. 3. Convenient location with indoor parking. 4. Feeling stuffed after eating? Walk around the mall! Or spend a few hours at the upstairs Target. During covid19: Grandmas Dim Sum was shut down for a few months. By chance I called and asked if they would be open during my visit to Flushing. I was overjoyed when they said their first day back was when I would be in town. Completely overjoyed! Rather than going into the mall to pick up my order, I had to call in what I wanted and pick it up at the loading dock on 40th Avenue. It was a minor inconvenience but totally worth it. In fact, I plan on visiting again and ordering from them again. This might change as the laws change around mall openings, indoor dining, etc. Call them and find out.
Many thanks for the service they provided. At times there were mix up that caused the food to come like 2 mins later. But that's because the food and sevice was amazing attracting lots of people.
Very comfort food especially the Grandma's fried rice - tasty. The tea was also nice.
The food is good quality, the portions are great, and everything tastes amazing, especially their fried rice. It’s amongst the best dishes I’ve ever eaten.
Delicious chinese food amazing! Went here with my family and we loved everything we ordered. The restaurant is warm and cozy and the food came out fast, highly recommended!!!
The food here is delicious. The soup dumplings are tasty. The skin is a little thicker than the way I like it, but it was close to the traditional. It still packed the flavor and didn't fall apart. Overall, the whole meal was enjoyable and I would definitely go back again.
Food is delicious 😋. Less a dimsum spot and more Cantonese/HK food. Get the sliced fish with sour veggies on a cold day!
My mom and I have been to this place many years ago for lunch and the food there was so awesome that my mom ordered pork soup dumplings, hot and sour soup, jumbo shrimp with walnuts, mapo tofu, beef with broccoli, and sauteed Chinese yam. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was quiet and with waiters taking the orders.
Such great service. Food was amazing. Definitely coming back here.
Took a look at the menu and instantly knew I wanted the congee even though I've never had it before. From what I saw on other tables, the plates are meant to be shared. When I ordered the congee (beef and bitter melon and it was delicious~) we were brought two bowls to share. The service was good, they took my order, gave me my food and brought the bill. I do plan on going back. Next time, I'll bring a few friends for lunch!
Food is great amazing , almost everything in the menu i taste it all amazing highly recommend…
Just went in and ordered orange beef, fried noodles with chicken and veg, and veggie dumplings in chili oil. Everything was really tasty. I love the orange beef the most, and I don’t eat beef often. It’s really crunchy with a tasty sauce. The veggie dumplings were good too, loved the chili oil. Only recommendation to the restaurant, pls wash the tea pot lol. But the tea was a nice touch.
Food was delicious definitely will be coming back again.
Great little spot at SkyView Mall. My girlfriend and I had the pan fried noodles with shredded chicken and it was delicious 👌. The dumplings were really great as well as Grandma's Pumpkin Mochi pie as dessert. Food came in a timely manner and the staff was nice. I would definitely go again!
The food there is very good. It's kind of surprising honestly because it's located in a mall next to a Chinese supermarket. I did not expect the food has this much level of flavor. Their curry is the best I tasted so far. I also ordered some other vegan dishes and they are also over the par. The ambiance is great and I like the decor. However, the place do get busy sometimes and the waitresses do need a bit more training and attention to the surroundings. The price is a bit unfriendly but it I guess it is fair with the taste. Overall I've enjoyed the place.
My mom and I have been to this place and ordered soup dumplings, shredded potato, orange chicken and many others. The food and service were tasty and wonderful. The atmosphere was that there were people there eating, talking, ordering, the waiters were cleaning the table and taking the bills.
I don’t understand why we’re always served our entrees before our appetizers. The service is fast and we enjoy their delicious food, so we don’t ask why we’re eating our lunch backwards.
Great place. Love the soup dumplings. They were very fresh. and the place was quiet which led to a peaceful dining experience
Great soup dumplings and big serving portions. Chinese resto inside the mall. Price is average. Service is okay. Cleanliness could be better.
Food is amazing. The prices are not bad. Food portion was more than we asked for. The only thing I would improve is staff. They are a bit rude and underwhelming.
Nice place... I'm very adventurous when it comes to food. I think the menu should be more English friendly... the few things that I ordered were pretty good. And I like the pot of tea....😉
Food is excellent. Fried rice is actually fried rice! Lol Great service, great staff, great food. Definitely going back for the 8th time! Lololol
Best deep fried salt pepper squid and Hot and Sour soup here. Bit rough around the edges but you won’t be disappointed with the food here.
Foods are good above average. Fast and ok services. Prices are reasonable in this neighborhood. A small place with limited seats. Always a wait. Revisited Nov 2017, restaurant remains clean and prices are reasonable in expensive Flushing areas. It would be a great choice if you visit those stores in the skymall.
The food is fine but the soup dumpling (xiao long bao) is not that great. The dumpling dough is too thick. Once you walk in, the receptionist doesn't take your name or give you a number for the table. She only memorize who walk in first for the table and this should be improved. Service is fast and efficient.
The food was standard Chinese but the soup dumplings had less soup. Just need to improve on the level of service and cleaning. This restaurant is in the mall so it's a great place to dine for lunch or dinner.
I've had the soup dumplings, curry fishballs and shrimp dim sum multiple times. The curry fishballs have a unique taste I've never encountered before, and the soup dumplings and shrimp dim sum are average. The service has always been efficient and friendly, and the prices reasonable considering the high rents in the Skyview mall.
When you walk in it's absolutely beautiful and for a place inside of a mall it was quiet the one male waitress he seems like he didn't really want to do his job but the other male and the other female were pretty cool I tried to soup dumpling was pretty good they're spicy pepper chicken was really good their version of General Tao's chicken was amazing and the broccoli was so green and so fresh and the tea I recommend it and when it gave me my diet soda with my lemon in it it was sliced very thin and done very well so I recommend this place 100%
The soup dumplings were bland. The Singapore Rice Noodles was really good. There are also no more dim sum at this restaurant.
Been here twice, and food was still good. Fried rice did not get any worse, and the dumplings from last time were fine. Has pork chop this time, and the sauce really impressed me. Cost 20 dollars, but portion size look like it was for two people, so if you want to go alone, you better be starving unless you want to pack the leftovers. Atmosphere was also really nice, as I liked the green tea and the hues of brown and gold were quite homely.
small place and the food is good traditional chinese food. They have way more than Dim Sum and the food and dumplings are very good. My friends are especially in love with the soup dumplings there. They have a lot of different flavors of soup dumplings unlike other places. The price was not expensive so I would recommend it especially if you are the mall and don't want to have to go out.
It's the best Chinese food I've ever had. It's a little pricey, but the flavor and quality is worth it. I did find one small black hair in my general tso's chicken, but I'd like to think it's a figment of my imagination. It better be in the fridge when I wake up tomorrow morning.
This place is nice. It feels like your home and the meals are fulfilling. In a shopping mall, it's good to get in early or else you'll be waiting a while. Go for the dumplings or congee. They are amazing. I truly enjoyed it and the staff was on point. The bathrooms are clean and so is the kitchen, surprisingly, for a mall based restaurant. I recommend this place.
I ordered the soup dumplings with the crab and pork the entertaining part was when you go to cut into the dumpling and it spits at you the down side is the dumpling sauce could have been a little better. My husb and got the fried pork and shrimp dumplings I enjoyed them. The entrees were as they were ordered no extras for instance I ordered the sliced beef with Chinese BBQ sauce for that it should have came with a side of white rice because those dishes are never balanced where there would be more meat then vegetable because they always put more vegetables then the meat. The dishes none the less was yummy. I feel that I didn't have to be charged regular price when I was told it was $1.90 for what is white rice but they charged regular price for the beef fried rice I ordered. The price should have been at least 10 something not 17 and change.I'm not mad it's that kinda place.
After visiting a few trendy Chinese places around all of NYC, I was worried that I might not be impressed by more traditional restaurants any longer. But there's a reason they consider dim sum & congee to be comfort food! Fine stuff, made even better w/ a small splash of soy sauce per serving.
Chanced upon this place as we were super hungry and didn’t want to venture out of the mall, the place was clean n hygienic. We were seated immediately and served piping hot tea which was very refreshing. The sauce that came with the spicy cucumber was extremely delicious, the mango salad was a let down, had only 6-8 thin slices of mango and more greens, was pretty pricy for that. The dumplings were pretty good. Quick service.
I came here with a craving for some comforting food like congee. They had a great choice of congee on the menu. I had the clam seafood congee, it was good, satisfying my cravings. I also ordered a dish of Chinese yam stir fry (山藥小炒)it had the lotus roots, celery, carrots, black woodear and obvious the Chinese yam. Unfortunately, it was a little more bland than expected. Nonetheless, I still enjoyed it.
The restaurant name is Grandma's dim sum. There is a very very small variety of dim sum. If you are looking for dim sum I would suggest else where. If you are looking for a decent lunch this is an okay place to go. I wont be returning for dim sum though. The staff is reasonable not the greatest nor is it the worse. I gave it 3 stars because I went for dim sum not noodle soup.
A little below average. We tried the seafood fired rice noodle, but it's cold outside when it came to serve, only the middle of it was warm... Very disappointed. The filling of soup dumpling tasted fine, but the outer layer(skin) was too thick. It's not as good as it sounds like. 😞 disappointed.
Beef noodles is ok Shrimp with eggs: the eggs are overcooked steam fish: fresh enough but too expensive which cost almost $70
The food is OK, though portions are smaller than most Chinese restaurants in Flushing. They call themselves a dim sum restaurant but only have but a small selection, so I was not impressed. Lastly...for dim sum, it was very expensive. Close to $80 (including tip) for 2 orders of soup dumplings, 1 order of fried dumplings, 1 order of siu mai, and an order of Seafood w/pan fried noodles. If you go to any Chinese restaurant in Flushing, you can eat like a king for that amount! Will avoid in the future unless I happen to be at the mall and I'm starving!
Food is ok and doesn't really stand out from any other Chinese restaurant. Service was good and the atmosphere was above average.
The name is deceiving where they don't serve dim sum. Food tastes good but overpriced. Unless you're meeting someone in the mall needing a quiet place I suggest you go across the street from the mall where there are plenty of options with good food.
The main takeaway was that the food was extremely overpriced. This restaurant is inside the mall so they are able to charge absurd prices like $1.50 for a tiny bowl of rice (that's typically not included in your orders). The atmosphere also wasn't very inviting. Everything is very open and there isn't a lot of privacy. The service was okay, but what threw me off was the servers literally asking for tips.
A mixture of different Chinese cuisines. The problem becomes where the focus can be to better serve customers. The soup dumplings weren't soupy and the skin was really thick which absorbed all of the juices. The only thing we enjoyed was the noodle dish that happened to be a special for that day. The restaurant was definitely busy with the tables full and we waited a few minutes before we were seated. Overall, may need to try again the other menu items to compare taste.
Oh man, I tried to give Grandma's the benefit of the doubt when I saw their low rating on Yelp...but I wasn't very pleased. First, I was surprised by the emptiness in the restaurant on a Friday afternoon. Usually dim sum places are packed on the weekends. To my realization, this wasn't a real "dim sum" place because their dim sum menu only had like 6-7 items to offer. The rest of the menu was regular Chinese dishes. My mother ordered their egg rolls off of the dim sum menu... It was literally those frozen egg rolls you get from a wholesale place... It didn't taste very good. My mother also ordered their chicken congee. This was okay was not the best I've had... Very mediocre. I ordered their beef noodle soup. The noodles were a bit undercooked and I wish I got more veggies. The beef had a lot of flavor though! The restaurant is small and located inside the Skyview Mall in Flushing. They take credit and their service was good. But I hope they up their game with the food because I wasn't too impressed. :(
went to eat there years ago when it opened, service was slow and food was just ok, not worth going back again
Would not go again! Even though it was a better restaurant conveniently located in the mall compared to the bakeries next door. Cantonese-speaking female server giving attitude on Chinese New Year’s Eve, despite that fact that the restaurant was not even half-full at the time and we ordered definitely more food than we could finish - Dimsum, 2 entrées, dish and dessert all at one go. Sent the wrong dish that contained pork when we clarified that we do not eat pork upon ordering. Fake shrimp in shrimp dumplings. Oily vegetables while fried rice too dried.
It's not dim sum. I don't know why they call themselves dim sum. The dishes are Ok but the serving size was kind of small. We ordered pork chop with taro. More than half of the pork was fat. Dumpling was OK, not the best. We had fried beef udon that was good.
Not the best but not bad either. The prices are relatively expensive for the portion size. The pan fried rice noodles were a bit too oily but I loved the preserved vegetables in there! The peking duck was pretty good but they recently changed the wraps from baos to thin pancakes wraps - personally I prefer the baos. The soup dumplings tasted like that of the frozen soup dumplings they sell in Chinese supermarkets. I don’t really have anything to say about the walnut shrimp and pan fried squid since it didn’t leave much of an impression. [food insta: @strwbrrryboba for more food :)]
Food - 4 stars Service - 2 stars Price - 3 stars Food is standard Chinese food, with good portions. Didn’t like the boil dumplings in soup as the skin came apart from the filling before I even ate. Service can be improved. Staff seated us in front of the door, then made us move tables. Cleanliness of the store also needs to be improved as there were rubbish on the floor and my table was sticky.
Very pricey and don’t taste good at all!! Maybe for business purposes only If you ever want to get a good Chinese meal, I’ll suggest you to go across the street of skyview to New York food court, tons of choices
Hair was in the rice but the restaurant looks fancy I like the design but the food is mid fr fr
"We were a group of 10 at the restaurant. The tables were simple, without tablecloths, and looked cheap as they had just pushed a few tables together. There was no table service; we had to ask for water refills for the teapot each time. The duck was passable, but it seemed like it was just a premade supermarket dish. The fish was tiny yet surprisingly expensive. The eggplant dish was the least enjoyable. Overall, we won't be returning to this place."
Not sure if this is a trend. But there was a roach on my table as I was eating. I did warn the staff. Not sure if this will be taken care of. I squashed the baby roach. So difficult to see on napkin. I did how ever showed them the napkin.
The food at this place is fine because the give large good poetions. . However the food is alottle bland or not enough flavor. Also, the prices are not worth it since the price is alittle to high for the quality. In other words the prices do not match the quality of the food.
I came here at the recommendation of a friend. First of all, the service was not great. Orders kept getting messed up and drinks were not refilled. Honestly, the only time we ever saw the server was when he took our orders and when he gave us the bill. Second of all, food was very average. When it comes to flavor and variety, it doesn't stand out too much compared to other dining options in Flushing. Additionally, the price is probably a little higher than what you would expect from a dim sum place. The atmosphere was okay, and the decor was pleasing to the eye. Unfortunately, It suffers from a lot of the same faults that Flushing restaurants tend to have in common, which is that it's extremely crowded on the weekends so be prepared for a long wait if you come around the afternoon times. Of course, that's not the fault of the restaurant, but if you're looking for more peaceful and quiet place to hang out, this is not the place. Overall, it's not the worst place I've been to but I don't think I'll be coming back here again.
After a long day of business, some friends and myself came in for dinner -- we honestly thought this place was all about Dim Sum, but not apparently during the late dinner hours. This came as a major disappointment to me because of the misleading restaurant name. At a point after ignoring the misleading name, I had come to realise that they were unable to grace my table with 乾炒牛河, which is a culinary test to a chef's skill in a globally-revered level. Therefore, I had to go with their apparent house special. To no surprise did I find it to be mediocre, but the effort in having some taste was acceptable -- it just wasn't exactly the dish to satisfy the demanding palate. Of course, when I saw it, I immediately ordered some 小籠包. However, for any true fan of the delectable soupy pork dumplings, it is with heavy sadness that I ask that those who wish to retain respect and the ability to still accept the dish as foodstuff to avoid ordering it here. For one, the soup was dried up by the time it was being served. The time it took to prepare and serve it was already a big red flag, but having that... dry with thick wrapping... was of great displeasure. You may thank me later for trying it so you don't have to ー it was a culinary disgrace. For those who don't know, 小籠包 is not supposed to have a thick wrapping, the soup is supposed to have a savoury embodiment that isn't dried out to the rest of the dumpling or, in this case, evaporated overall ー I nearly wanted to pray for this restaurant that someone help them right this wrong, but I'm afraid it was too late. Also, this goes without saying -- If you are even thinking of going after reading this review of the food, do not go after the main mall shops close because if the food is of low quality, you won't want to see the service around that time either.
Came in as a group of 4. The servers were kind and we were quickly seated down with no wait. It was our first time here too and didn't feel like venturing outside the mall for food so we settled here. At first glance, the menu looked pretty expensive but that's to be expected in flushing and we were hungry so we went ahead and ordered a few things. As for the food, it was underwhelming overall. I've had a fair share of chinese fare and though this isn't the worst I've had, it wasn't great either compared to other restaurants outside skyview. Portion sizes were quite shallow for it's price too, especially the walnut shrimps. They were just okay, not worth $19.95 for the measly amount of shrimp given. The parsley beef soup was pretty bland. Wasn't impressed. Tasted like water. Even the free jasmine tea had more flavor than the soup. On a positive note, I enjoyed the chestnut chicken. It had a flavorful aroma to it, albeit not much chestnut. Everything else was disappointing. In the end, I left feeling hungry and unsatisfied. Head outside of skyview and you'll come across dozens of better restaurants.
The waiter is really rude. Had some bad attitude all the time. The food is okay at best. The potato slices are almost as thick as French fries!
You have to ask, otherwise they wont give you water, you have to ask, otherwise they wont give you utensil, we have been seating there over 40 mins for our food, we have asked the waitress 4 times, and the manager told me they are completely forgot our orders… and they said its “normal” to forgot….
Food was good. Over priced. My main complaint is the service and the fact that they automatically include the tip in the overall price of the meal. Tipping is at the discretion of the customer, it shouldn’t be automatically included, it’s based on service, which the service was lacking. Before I could decided if I wanted to tip or not they already went ahead and added a tip in the overall price, that’s rather presumptuous of them
I was left standing there waiting at the door while servers went past me and no one bothered to seat me for 5 mins. It was not a full dinning room. I don’t know if there was a host that was suppose to seat me or not. Sat there with no menus after being seated and another 10 for someone to actually notice to take our orders. No one gave us our checks until I got up then was told to sit back down. On top of that I got in digestion. Never going here again. Would recommend going next door to get subways instead of coming here.
As a Chinese, I say don’t come here unless you have to. Dishes are terrible among restaurants in flushing. Besides they are way overpriced. But tbh, most of those who come here are not Chinese. You get the idea.
Always come in 1 thing and always stop to ask for tips. The service is not even good
I have no idea why I see 5-star reviews here. The food quality is mediocre, small portion and over-priced. The service is nah. No need to make a particular trip here and I will not return. One star is for the bus boy.
Please save your money and time, go to a foodcourt and get GOOD FOOD instead of this miserable and REALLY OVERPRICED food. Not a good place to eat. These prices do not fit the place, the food and the attention. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place please.
horrible services & kiddos unfriendly! My husband brings our three years old daughter alone to order food here, because I was sick today, the little girl want to use restroom. The man who is wearing glasses, he was REFUSING TO USE RESTROOM. My husband have to take a girl to go the MAN RESTROOM which was extremely inconvenient and dirty. At this situation, my husband was trying to get Plan B, so he was going to target which is located at 6 floor, and the key is MAN restroom is temporarily closed, but he can’t take a girl to go female restroom. Oh my gosh, little girl was crying and want to her mother’s help. So hopelessly!
They overcharged almost $10 to switch from chicken to beef in 1 dish. In the menu they have ‘chicken teriyaki’ for $18.95. However, I wanted ‘beef teriyaki’. First answer from the waitress was ‘no’, I explained that I had that dish before, so the waitress asked someone else and I got my beef teriyaki. What I wasn’t told until I saw the bill was that the price would jump almost $10 up. They charged $28.95.- for my beef teriyaki. I would expect a little higher price, but it is too much. Obviously, no tip was added. Please look at the bill we received and the menu they have with the chicken teriyaki price on it. Price of Beef teriyaki is not posted at the restaurant or online. Shame on you guys. We used to go there periodically, not anymore.
We drove to flushing and parked at Skymall. As previously we passed through this restaurant all the time, never tried their food, so we decided to eat there. What a mistake?! We would never do it again. First of all the prices are high for Flushing standards and then we ordered basic food, like mushrooms with green veggies; xao long buns; seafood fried noodles…my goodness! Xao long buns came 5-6 pieces, I don’t remember, but we left 1, couldn’t eat it because it was tasteless, same with mushrooms/veggies and seafood noodles. It must be frozen seafood, chewy and very salty, we had to split them out. At end we paid over $60, still hungry. The waiter asked if we wanted to take to go, we said, no! Do not waste your money there! Flushing has so many delicious and reasonably priced places. We will not make this mistake again. We are sure rent in the mall is expensive, so menu prices high are okay, as long as the restaurant invested good chef!
I went here with my girlfriend and her sister the food they served are basic and the portion size is tiny. The chicken curry is about $15 and it is mostly vegetables. We requested for 3 cups of ice and we were given one. The attitude of the workers here are disgusting they slam your food as they serve it, if you are not chinese do not go here. Along with the bad service, they also forced 15% tip. The lady who gave our bill didn’t even let us know about the tip until she charged our card. As servers, they shouldn’t be allowed to demand tip especially with the bad service they give. DO NOT EVER EAT HERE!
My family is pure vegetarian and I asked the waitress hundred times not to put meat or egg. We ordered Veggie fried rice, Mapo Tofu, String Beans and Chowfun. When we got our food, Veggie fried rice had scrambled eggs and I ask them to change it but waitress was not happy and we argued. Then we ask for Hot sauce, in turn they gave us Shrimp sauce and waitress ran away after throwing it. I called her and she said sorry and took it away, looks like it that they did purposely. Really hate their service and food quality as well. Never recommend anyone to visit there. They don’t treat people in a good manner.
we ordered the beef soup and the corn soup came out looking like vomit, we asked the waiter to take it away and he got mad at us $34 wasted, total bill for 2 soups, chicken wings and dumplings $85 . very disappointed.
Stopped here with my wife for lunch before shopping at BJs. This place no longer serves dim sum. The portions are now smaller. They only give you 5 soup dumplings where other establishments in Flushing gives 6. The food was not up to par with all the competition in Flushing and the pricing in comparison is slightly higher. My wife and I didn't finish the food we ordered because one of the dishes wasn't fully cooked.
Food tastes just ok but service totally suck and rude
This is Disgusting! I ordered takeout from this restaurant and I found a clam full of sand in my soup! I called restaurant, the women who answered was yelling at me, saying that “you don’t run a restaurant you don’t know how hard to make food!” “There’s only one clam that’s full of sand in the soup which is FINE” “bring back the soup I can change it for you, no refund” Fine, if you don’t think you are doing wrong, and you don’t want to refund, god bless you Btw, why you call your restaurant grandma dimsum? If I ate that soup I probably go see my dear god sooner than my grandma!
Awful food. Nothing authentic. Below is what they called “鱼香茄子”,it's awful. And the waiter tried to argue with me with really mean manner. She asked "Do you think this dish has fish in it?(你以为鱼香茄子有鱼吗?)" Of course I know there's no fish. I also know what's authentic and this is absolutely disgusting. I'm Chinese!!!! Born and bred!!!! The food is disgusting. The service is awful. This place deserves negative stars if I can give them. No sane person should ever come here for food. The the place is so loud.
