At the very beginning: this place is takeout only. Very kind and friendly staff, and at-home atmosphere. Good portion and taste of food. Would recommend roasted duck and chicken, both of which come with homemade sauces, especially the roasted duck sauce with nice meat fragrance. The roasted port is pretty good too. It’s just my personal preference of poultry. The ingredients have good quality without too much fat, so you wouldn’t feel greasy when eating, which is the main reason I prefer here to Ranch 99 diary. And the price tends to be cheaper when you choose the whole duck/chicken, in which case you get a full box of treasure! I have had enjoyable meals since the first time. Would definitely come back and try other dishes😋

Some of the best “mom and pop” dim sum and Chinese bbq I’ve had in the bay. Everything came in gigantic portions and was amazing. The value was there. We were able to spread out a single meal of about $30 into 3-4 different meals. What we ordered: - roast pork and duck bbq with fried rice - (2) shumai - (1) crazy shrimp (baseball sized shrimp balls) - (1) shrimp rice roll.

Definitely will be back again. Price may be a little bit high normally we go to Chinatown in Oakland usually we get a little bit more for the same amount that I pay very busy here that's good you see a lot of Asian people here coming in that means the food is really good. I understand what they speak. Been in the restaurant business 50 years. Cantonese style. But since Oakland Chinatown going down bad from all the crime no one wants to go there now, Oakland is getting really ruin down city mayor and our governor is destroying it, people leaving the area!

Delicious dim sum for to-go only. As an old customer, I really hope they could raise the price. You feel like it’s year 2017 here. I recommend any steam cooked dim sum, two BBQ bento box ( upgrade to Fried rice noodles, trust me, worth it). And yes, they accept credit cards!

Hands down the best Cantonese style BBQ I have been to in the Bay area. We usually come here to get their famous roasted duck, but this time we ordered a medium whole pig for our new year dinner. The pig was cooked perfectly with a crispy skin and tender meat inside. This pig can easily feed 20 or more people and we had great compliments from our guests. The pig was $320+tax and you have to order ahead of time instore, but it was worth every penny of it. I highly recommend this place!

Amazing staff, super friendly people!! The meat was super authentic, and fresh. Tasted exactly like Hong Kong food. Was so happy to try this restaurant. The prices are super affordable as well, we loved everything.

Bring cash!! Everything is delicious and dimsum at any time?! Yes, please!! People come here for the BBQ but I come for the dumplings and such. Delicious but it can get crowded 😋

Fantastic spot for some fresh dim sum! Their portion sizes are huge especially when considering how low their prices are. The aunties at the counter are very friendly and service is quite fast since the dim sum is ready to go from the steaming pots.

Today, I had the pleasure of visiting this takeout-only restaurant for the first time. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by two ladies with warmth and hospitality. We didn’t know what to order at first, and they didn’t make us feel rushed at all. In fact, they were very kind and attentive. They even offered us a free sample of one of their specialties. It’s clear that they genuinely care about their customers. And their food truly tastes like something from your favorite aunties kitchen!! My boyfriend was a regular here before we started dating, but four years later, it was my first time going with him! It’s truly a gem. They pack the food to the brim, and it's enough to feed us for about four meals tbh. We got two lunch plates with Vegetarian Chow Mein, Fried Rice, Sesame Chicken (perfect chicken to breading ratio, and the sauce is addicting), Tofu and Eggplant (sooo flavorful), Roast Duck (my boyfriend's favorite) and cabbage, and an ice cold soda! They even added forks and napkins which a lot of other places forget to do. If you’re looking for a lunch place that will satisfy both your appetite and your eyes, don’t hesitate to go here. The portions are generous, the flavors are authentic, and the service is nothing short of wonderful. Food 5/5, Service 5/5, Portions 10/5

I've been going here for well over 10 years! The women are always really nice. Huge great portions! They have the best roast pork in the area, better than 99 Ranch! The dim sum isn't bad if you're really craving quick dim sum and they have a pretty good variety... But I ALWAYS get my fix of roast pork from them!

I came late not knowing they were closing but they still serviced what they had and it was very good like your friend invited you over for dinner and their mom and aunt been making this for hours

Food/Taste/Flavor: 3/5 - Daily special with fried rice, BBQ pork, broccoli beef, and kung pao chicken. The fried rice was simple but good. The BBQ pork that was freshly cut was pretty dry and the sauce added seemed to soak into the rice itself rather than stay with the protein. The broccoli beef was nicely cooked with the broccoli being tender and the beef with a slight bite still. The kung pao chicken was EXTREMELY salty Shu mai was decent. While it's only 3 pieces, they are pretty big pieces Ambience: 2/5 - there was water dripping in the middle of the store with a bucket to catch with dirty footprints everywhere. Definitely older store and it feels like it could use a deep clean Service: 5/5 - lady was really nice and friendly. The pricing was a bit confusing since there's extra charges for certain meats and slightly different prices based on which menu you look at Value for price: 4/5 - decent price even with the extra charge for BBQ pork. We did go closer to the end of the day so it does seem some of the items have been sitting there longer which may have affected the taste/texture of some of the items

This is a mixed review. Some of their Chinese BBQ is great but other foods not so much. Most of their hot dishes are precooked sitting on a steam table rather than being prepared to order which degrades the quality, particularly fried items such as orange chicken. The steam buns I purchased were a big disappointment as while large in size and priced accordingly, most of the buns were steamed risen dough with around a large teaspoon of filling. Cutting off the dough to around a ¼ inch around the filling cut the size of the bun in half and I was left with a pile of dough equal to a slice of bread. The filling, vegetable and pork, was poorly seasoned. As such I cannot recommend their buns and find frozen ones or the ones at a Chinese BBQ site in the Lyon shopping center in Newark much better. I did like the Chinese BBQ pork and they do have roasted duck and pot stickers that looked ok. Given that they have been in existence and at the same site for many years they must be doing some things right.

I used to love eating here. Unfortunately now they give you very little and the cost has gone up. The food is still delicious but the amount and price are imbalanced. I recommend going someplace else where the price and amount is fair. Plenty of Chinese options with cheaper prices for the food you are given.

I love championing small businesses but man, this place has some work to do. Both times I've came here the staff is rude. For the portion size.. I think prices are fair but food is mediocre. It's definitely better than fast Chinese food like Panda but the food overall is okay. Don't think I'll be going back.

The food tasted old. The steam pork tasted like they have been cooked while back and reheated. It had a fermenting smell to it. The place while not kept well. Service items all over the place. Rice in lotus leaf tasted old as well. Fried taro dumpling looked good but felt sick from all the lard taste and the smell of old cooking oil. The only thing decent was the shuimai. To top it off the lady overcharged me by 4 dollars. Will not be returning to this place!

My experience at Tai Pan BBQ Express Dim Sum was nothing short of a complete and utter disappointment. The rudeness and arrogance displayed by the customer service staff were absolutely unacceptable, tarnishing what could have been an enjoyable dining experience. From the moment I entered the establishment, I was met with condescending glares and dismissive attitudes from the staff. It was evident that they had little regard for providing courteous and attentive service to their customers. My simple inquiries were met with eye-rolls and sighs, making me feel like an inconvenience rather than a paying customer. The lack of professionalism extended to the quality of the food and service itself. The dim sum I ordered was overcooked and cold, showing a blatant disregard for culinary standards. When I brought up my concerns to the staff, they were defensive and refused to acknowledge any fault, further cementing their arrogance and lack of accountability. Furthermore, the cleanliness of the restaurant left much to be desired. The tables were sticky, and the floors were littered with food scraps, giving the impression of a poorly maintained and unhygienic establishment. What truly appalled me was the complete lack of respect shown to other patrons as well. I witnessed the staff arguing with customers and making snide remarks, displaying a complete disregard for basic customer service etiquette. In conclusion, Tai Pan BBQ Express Dim Sum falls short in every aspect, from its rude and arrogant customer service to its mediocre food and unclean environment. I strongly advise against visiting this establishment, as it fails to deliver on even the most basic standards of dining experience. There are plenty of other dim sum restaurants in the area that provide not only better food but also a welcoming and respectful atmosphere for their customers. Save yourself the disappointment and frustration by choosing a different dining option.
