The Golden Rule is a Georgetown gem with a vibrant atmosphere, delicious appetizers, and phenomenal service, especially from Bri and Jackson. The Wagyu Beef Stroganoff and burgers are popular. Some found the steak overcooked and noted issues with flies.

Always a great place to get a cocktail! Food was FANTASTIC! Ordered the pork tenderloin and it was done perfect! Baby carrots were a little overdone, but other than that, a very good meal. Great atmosphere and our server Jet was AWESOME!
This place!! You must go!! Every bite was so darn good. The service was wonderful. Their bourbon selection was amazing (with the most amazing pricing). Must try: Waygu stroganoff and Brussels sprouts are highly recommended.
It is not the most mind blowing food I have ever had. But, for the price you are paying, it is a pretty great elevation in the quality of cuisine. The service was phenomenal, especially considering that we were sat about as far from other people as possible. Waitress was perfectly attendant and very friendly. Atmosphere was great. The place is welcoming and well kept, but not *too* fancy so you can come as your authentic self. Tons of intimate seating and private booths. The mafia would love the layout. If you are looking for a culinary experience that is more fancy, but not too expensive, is delicious, and intimate. This is a great option!
Food was amazing! Atmosphere was amazing! Music was amazing! Drinks, okay, but after the second couple of drinks they became amazing! Underrated gem, is Georgetown. We tracked here from Dallas and places like this make us wish we lived out here. Truly amazing!
9/5/2025 5pm We were at the Sq in Georgetown for the 1st Friday “concert on the lawn”. Had a glass of wine at Georgetown Winery and the folks there recommended the Golden Rule, right off the square, as a great place for appetizers and dinner. Weather was mild so we chose to eat outside. We were greeted by our waitress Val, who has a smile bigger than Dallas. Val recommended a couple of excellent appetizers and we decided to split a double patty smash burger. The food was delicious. The atmosphere was awesome. All and all, a wonderful evening ! Ask for Val, a Great waitress leads to a Great Experience!
We had our rehearsal dinner at Golden rule, and they were absolutely amazing from the staff, to the food, to the atmosphere it was absolutely beautiful and we could not have asked for better. We booked the private event, space, and they gave us the entire day to decorate because there wasn’t another event. that was beyond helpful, and they provided table cloths and napkins, and honestly everything we needed. The food came out so swiftly, and when we needed it, and staff was consistently walking around getting any extra plates, and just being amazing for the event. The bartenders were absolutely awesome, and the drinks were quick, delicious, and exactly what we wanted. I absolutely loved their death by 1000 berries mocktail, but people could not get over how awesome the Lavender Haze was 10/10 recommend. We will absolutely be returning again, and highly recommend anybody in Georgetown to come by or host a gathering, reception, rehearsal dinner, etc. The prices are great, it’s definitely a Georgetown staple!!
From the beginning our hostess, Bri, was very accommodating. Things happened that were beyond her control however she gave us updates and made sure we were comfortable going as far to secure us private seating next to the bar while we waited for our table. Our Waiter Jackson was equally as amazing. Very personable and hella funny. There is a bit of a wait for drinks and food. However I had to remind myself that everything is made fresh and quality takes time. If you are wanting a quick drop in dinner this might not be the place for you however if you are wanting excellent food made with quality ingredients provided by personable staff this is a place for you. With prices of everything going up it matters how and where we spend our dollars. I suggest coming and enjoying the atmosphere but not when you have a strict timeline you need to stick to because it’s worth the wait.
Ended up getting their burger after my buddy swore it was his absolute favorite and the best he has ever had so I had some high hopes. Honestly it was a damn good burger. Only critique is it was smaller than I expected for the price but the flavor made up for it. Super juicy and the pepper jam or sauce they put on it was phenomenal. Had a nice little kick that worked perfectly with the cheese and elk meat. Fries were solid too — crispy shoe strings with that perfect crunch. We also grabbed a couple appetizers. The brussels sprouts were perfectly crispy with a nice sweet glaze and the shishito peppers had great crunch and just the right amount of heat with a chipotle sauce that tied it together. Cool little spot with a laid back vibe that’s perfect for a low key lunch with the bros.
This place is the best!!! I had the Life’s a Peach, it was perfect. For dinner I had the Wagyu Beef Stroganoff. The pasta was home made in Texas somewhere, very good. We brought our giant dog who was allowed outside. My boyfriend had a steak with seasoned butter. It was all terrific. Highly recommend.
We celebrated our son's birthday here, I reserved a table in advanced. The place and the ambiance of this restaurant is unique and we loved it! Food is quite nice but for me who loves to eat out and cook, I'm expecting more flavors. I hope they will add more food selections for dinner. In addition, the customer service is great. It was a pleasant experience hoping to go back with more food choices. 😊
I was so impressed by The Golden Rule. From the decor to the atmosphere to the menu and creative bar offerings - this spot definitely takes it to the next level as far as dining in Georgetown goes. Everything on the appetizer menu was delicious - loved the deviled eggs and the steak against the grain. I really wish they offered the craft cocktail flight during dinner service as it looked really fun to try. I would absolutely recommend making a reservation to make sure you get a table. The only downside was the service could have been a little better. Several items that we ordered were forgotten and our waitress was not very friendly. However, overall I really enjoyed coming here and would love to come back to try brunch. Definitely a great option if you're looking to eat somewhere on the square.
Well, the deviled eggs are amazing. Let me just start there. I'm a foody. The new york strip was absolutely perfect, even the next day as warmed up left overs. Very tender. The green beans, meh. Very disappointed that they don't serve boneless rib eyes though.??? Even though the menu online says it does. The ice tea was weak. I like it strong. However the real reason for the low food score. The nasty mac and cheese. What on earth and to charge 12 for a tiny bowl of yuck. I couldn't even tell you for a million dollars what kind of noodles that was. Sauce tasted like milk. No salt and pepper on the table. Would come back. Maybe one more time. Maybe. The server was excellent.
We've probably eaten at the Golden Rule a dozen times over the last five years. The time before last I called on a Friday to ask the hours for happy hour. Unfortunately, the information provided failed to mention that they don't have happy hour on Fridays. We were told this when were seated and asked about the specials. I was disappointed that no offer was made to discount anything (appetizer, draft beer, house wine) since we were misinformed. Our most recent visit for happy hour was on a Wednesday and we were pleased with the specials. I usually get the grilled redfish trying to be a bit healthier and it's always delicious. The rice, though, seemed much more buttery and rich than usual which would be good were I not trying to eat a bit cleaner. Also, I love the al dente broccolini, but the serving was very small and I never understood why you're not provided with a knife for your meal. My husband had the turkey sandwich which he enjoyed, and was able to change the side to a small salad for no charge.
I think I ate at Golden Rule the week it opened years ago but I never went back. No specific reason, I just prefer going out in Austin when I’m in town. But I’ve recently been back on several occasions. It’s 5 stars for atmosphere. The ambiance couldn’t be better. Really cute place, great bar, very inviting. The food is more like 4 stars. Seems to be inconsistent. Sometimes too salty. Recently raised their prices on the entrees which I believe to be way too much for what it is. The service is generally good, however, sitting at the bar, the service is also inconsistent. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not. Regardless of improvements needed, if you’re looking for a hang out spot in GTown with decent food and fun, eclectic atmosphere, I would suggest Golden Rule.
The atmosphere was both vibrant and eclectic, creating a lively dining experience. Our server was not only joyful but also energetic, making our first visit memorable with her excellent recommendations. We began with the whipped honey goat cheese, which was absolutely phenomenal. My wife’s salmon was cooked to perfection—flaky and flavorful. To top it all off, we indulged in the Bourbon Blondie for dessert, and it was pure sweet delight. This place is truly a gem, and I can't recommend it highly enough!
This was a very cute place! The mussels and entrées were delicious! I especially loved the beef stroganoff, which is served with the pasta on the side and the steak cooked to your liking—absolutely phenomenal! I do have some suggestions: I recommend removing the spicy mayo from the short ribs, as it overpowered the amazing flavor of the meat. I ordered an espresso martini, but it tasted more like a regular latte with alcohol. On the other hand, the other drinks were amazing! Lastly, I think there could be a bit more effort put into the dessert dishes. The cobbler seemed a bit lazy, served on a disposable dish, and the cheesecake tasted stale; you could even taste the plastic wrap it had been prepped in. We also asked if they had fresh fruit as a dessert option, and for a restaurant of this caliber, that should definitely be on the menu. Overall, I would come back!
Our party of four met here for dinner on a Wednesday evening recently. I guess our expectations were set too high because we were all underwhelmed with the food and service. We started with Spicy Pimento Cheese appetizer only because they didn't have any Salt and Pepper Calamari. It was tasty but not really memorable. I had the Elk Burger and fries. Both were okay but nothing special. The fries were soggy. My wife had the Cowboy Tenderloin that was cooked perfectly, but somewhat overpowered with the coffee ancho rub, sided with goat cheese mashed potatoes and baby carrots. The mashed potatoes stole the show on that plate. Our guests also had an Elk Burger and Candied Pecan Fried Chicken which also earned high marks. We all felt the portion sizes were on the small side compared to other similar restaurants in Georgetown and while our server was friendly, she could have been more attentive to keeping the small water glasses filled. All in all it was a pleasant experience but not worth a return trip anytime soon.
Good drinks and a nice patio restaurant/bar. The service was the highlight here- we loved our waiter Lynden. I'd give five stars+ hands down to him and his service! The drinks were decent, nothing stood out as amazing. Now the food. This is where I debated either 3 or 4 stars. Chips and cheese- decent. Cheese was ok. Deviled eggs were ok too- tasted like those hardboiled eggs you get in a twin pack from a store. Weird texture. The Pimento cheese was probably the best thing, however the bread chips were not my favorite. Super hard and crispy. When talking with our friends about this place it was "Their smash elk burger OMG". First the fries were good. The burger--well--For $3 at Burger King- get a double cheeseburger, they taste exactly the same. Overcooked- covered and I mean covered in mustard. Now I love mustard, however It was so blah. Sorry!
Got sat outside with my family. Waited over 30 minutes for a server to even greet us after checking with the hostess. Poor interaction with the server and no apology for the wait and very few other customers outside. Food and drinks are not worth the wait with no explanation or interaction. Also received dirty glassware when we finally got our drinks
Wanted to eat downtown. Very lively area. This spot looked promising. I was very disappointed. Was initially seated inside and it was dreary. There were people at the bar but there were zero televisions and very low music. I quickly changed my mind and decided to sit outside. There were people with dogs and there was a hint of some pretty good music (ie. Fiona apple). Thats a good vibe but that’s about all I got here. Service was painfully slow. The server was inattentive and forgot to bring staples such as water and neglected to check in after food arrived. I’m not looking for a doting waiter but how about some basic service? Appetizer was okay. Drinks were interesting but just okay. I ordered a turkey club which came in around $17. It was toast with lettuce, tomato, bacon (tasty) and processed turkey. I could have made this at home for much less. Come on man! Plus they were stingy in the turkey. It was a sad sandwich. The inattentive waiter was quick to bring the bill and ask for an undeserved tip. Not coming back here. Lots of potential but lots of pretentiousness as well.
