As a doctor with a strong interest in nutrition and public health, I came here with a big group of people and we all loved the food and the educational events organized here. I'm traveling, but if I lived in DC, this would be my go to place! The food was absolutely amazing and healthy! I felt really good after eating here. This place is one of the best places to eat in DC. 10/10, highly recommended!
A dear friend recommended this restaurant, and I’m so glad I took her advice. Although I’m not a vegetarian, I’ve always been curious about jackfruit, so I ordered the Jackfruit Barbeque Sandwich, while my friend chose the Organic Fall Paella. Wow!!! The sandwich was amazing—rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying—and the side salad and fries were just as impressive. I also sampled my friend’s paella, which was equally delicious and beautifully balanced. What really sets this place apart is the quality of the ingredients. Unlike many restaurants that rely on a single, often mediocre supplier due to supply-chain pressures, Greenfare clearly prioritizes fresh, high-quality produce. I was genuinely surprised by how vibrant and flavorful even the side salad was. I completely forgot to take a photo of the Organic Red Bean Lava Cake, but it deserves special mention. It was absolutely sublime—warm, comforting, and perfectly sweet without being overwhelming. An ideal dessert for a cold day, and one I highly recommend. To top it all off, the service matched the quality of the food. We were welcomed warmly, like guests in someone’s home, and never felt rushed. It was a relaxed, genuinely pleasant experience from start to finish. I’ll definitely be returning.
I had the pleasure of dining at this fantastic vegan, plant-based restaurant, and I’m so glad I did! From start to finish, everything exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed, creating a perfect setting to enjoy a meal. The menu is both innovative and diverse, offering a variety of mouthwatering options that go beyond the usual plant-based fare. The dishes are packed with fresh, wholesome ingredients, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every recipe. I had the pleasure of trying several items, and each one was bursting with flavor and creativity. It’s rare to find a place where you can truly taste the quality of the ingredients and the passion of the chefs. Additionally, the restaurant features a curated selection of ‘Food as Medicine’ books, which is a great touch for anyone curious about the health benefits of plant-based eating. It’s clear this place is not only focused on great food but also on promoting overall well-being. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to explore or enjoy plant-based meals that are both nourishing and delicious. Can’t wait to come back!
Fantastic food with enormous portions. Not a quick dining experience, which is fine given the quality. It’s so hard to find vegan food which isn’t greasy, highlights veggies, and fills you up. This is my go-to whenever in town! A delightful bonus to also find gluten free desserts made without cane sugar :)
I left the airport hungry and in search of a healthy vegan lunch. Within 20 minutes, I arrived at GreenFare. Upon walking in I saw the books and bakery items at the counter. I was intrigued. Then I sat down and started to order. There was a great variety of selections from apps to entrees and desserts. The food was incredibly well made with great care. You can taste it in the butternut squash soup topped with its roasted seeds. Also, in the mushroom enchiladas with its flavors and what seemed delicate yet quite filling. The chocolate mousse was the perfect end. My eyes lit up. Truly the best.
Found the restaurant on a whim; we were visiting from Rhode Island for a couple of days. So happy we did. Having such excellent food with no added oils/salt is a rare find. Having those same foods be better than places that use all the unneeded additions is just mind blowing! We enjoyed the fried quinoa and tofu dish and the ginger stir fry bowl. We couldn't decide for dessert and we were treated to a little sampler of the chocolate mousse and the pumpkin bar. The service was attentive and genuine. The location itself is surrounded by literature for living a clean eating life but nothing is being pushed on you if you're just looking for a good meal. If GreenFare was in New England it'd be my go to place to eat.
I love this restaurant. Organic. Whole plant foods. SOS-free (no salt, oil/fats or sugar) w/many gluten-free options. I could eat here day and night. Great prepped foods for takeout. Yummy desserts.
So, I'm far from vegetarian or concerned with organic products. We wanted to try something different today and decided to make the drive to this place. Well, very pleasantly surprised. The food was very tasty, all of it. We had the lentil loaf and the jack fruit bbq sandwich dishes. Both accompanied by a very tasty salad. The dishes were hearty and, also surprising, very filling. No room left for dessert. We will visit this place again and will recommend it.
Enjoyed an incredible meal without feeling guilty about what I ate. I love how each dish has so many wonderful ingredients in it. Make sure to order the lava cake for dessert made with red beans and dates. It’s better than the unhealthy ones and you won’t be able to tell the difference.
I had a great experience here tonight during "Pizza Night" where for $25/person, you get all-you-can-eat salad, pizza slices (three different kinds), and kombucha (three different flavors). The staff was very friendly, especially the owner Gwyn, and all the food was very fresh and tasty. I even ordered a carrot cake to go even though I was very full -- I just couldn't resist. If I lived in town, I would definitely be visiting this place often and become more involved in their events. For context, this place is more than just a restaurant -- they host meet-ups, movie nights, and educational classes all centered around nutrition and, more specifically, a whole food plant based diet. They also have a kick start program where people are introduced to this healthy way of eating, including daily meals for 21 days. One thing to note, as another reviewer mentioned, is I don't think they have dinner setup each night and I'm not quite sure if they have lunch everyday either. I believe I just got lucky with them hosting a pizza night while I was in town. If you are interested in coming for a meal or just to learn more about eating healthier, I would recommend calling ahead to understand the schedule and available menu. Gwyn and staff -- thank you for your hospitality and an amazing dinner!
My server was excellent! It is so rare and wonderful when employees exude the values that a business stands for. The food was good, definitely the freshest food I've had at a restaurant that wasn't raw. To be clear, I dislike lava cake in general, but when I saw that the one sold here was a red bean lava cake, I had to try it just to see what it could possibly taste like. It caused a foodgasm of epic proportions! This cake is worth the wait. It takes a while to prepare, so if you're thinking of trying it out, let your server know asap. I wish I could give this business more than 5 stars. Not only does it offer delicious, healthy meals, but it teaches you how to make them yourself, how to change your life for the better. "If you teach a man to fish..." I'm already looking forward to my next trip to the area so that I can come back to this wonderful, wonderful place.
I was visiting town on business and decided to stop in and check this place out. Very friendly staff. They took the time to ask if I was new to plant based/vegan eating and asked questions about my tastes to make recommendations. In the end I couldn't decide because I wanted to try so many different things so I asked them to just surprise me and ended up with a fantastic meal.
SO much I can say but I will say this, I thought I'd experienced good organic/vegetarian places to eat until having lunch at Greenfare. A lot of places have menus with good options but still have a fast food atmosphere? You know? Lunch at Greenfare turned into an experience. The food was AMAZING. The service was friendly and transparent. Thank you Jen! AND I was able to get some info on sound therapy services in the area. Lunch turned into a confirmation so I'm grateful. A must if your in the area.
Healthy food that checks all the boxes for health advice and tastes good. I got the muffin, enchiladas and carrot cake and was stuffed. The daughter got the sweet potato fries, which were delicious and well liked.
We ordred beetroot burger and quinoa bowl both tastes soo good.. we liked their moto and love for organic vegan food. Being vegetarian I feel we need more places like this. 🙂
Carefully and excellently prepared and served tasteful dishes (I had a soup+salad+sampled a friend’s muffin). I definitely want to return for more! The Thai quinoa bowl is on my short list as well as the sweet potato lasagna. The restaurant is also a healthy-nutriton springboard with a fascinating collection of books to browse or purchase as well as periodic lectures by impressive resources and there are classes available too. Plant-based recipes at their best—truly unique among restaurant finds!
Really glad I stumbled across this restaurant. The sweet potato enchilada was fantastic. If you want to try great vegan food, go here.
Great restaurant with healthiest tasty choices ever. Clean bathrooms, knowledgeable and friendly staff make this a great stop for plant based and other customers alike to get good food.
Absolutely stunning healthy and quantity food that will save your life! A place to eat everyday!
Great organic, plant-based food. The menu items are varied and include gluten-free and dessert options. They also offer classes to help you transition to a plant based diet.
Great food. When I went with my husband to eat there was only 1 server but she was very sweet and attentive.
Great food that is good for you! The portion size is large. The Latin loaf was amazing.
Hundred percent organic restaurant with a hundred percent organic food all vegan many books. Excellent.
Great food with a great mission. The food is all plant based, all organic and all fresh. It's simple food; that is to say that the ingredients themselves are the highlight of the dishes, as it should be. There are many options, including desserts that you won't believe are not packed with sugar. The wait staff was super knowledgeable. The owner came over and introduced herself. The portion sizes are huge. You might balk a bit at the prices, but you're getting great food and the entrees are two meals on their own. I paid $18 for a dish that will last me two days. That's a good deal. They've put a lot of thought into what they're doing; they aren't in it to get rich. Just from one experience I can tell they genuinely believe in their mission. We will be making this a regular visit.
Delicious!!!!! My whole family loves the meals and muffins they make here. Some of their products contain soy (which unfortunately I can’t eat) but I love their gluten free vegan muffins! And they have lots of options for gluten free, vegan, etc. highly recommend grabbing a few things from here to give it a try! As a previous nutrition major, I love the ingredients they choose for many of their dishes, especially their baked goods. It looks as though many items are sweetened with dates rather than sugar (but they don’t taste like it!). If you’re looking for a healthy and delicious meal, stop by here.
Great little spot with innovative dishes and good information available too. I love the pure ingredients and seasonal menu. We just went for dessert this time ~ our favorite was the red bean lava cake! An odd but very satisfying dessert.
I have several health issues and I need to eat a sugar free and low salt diet. Finding this restaurant had been a life saver! As I cannot cook every single meal at home, having an organic restaurant near my home that I can actually trust and know they use the best quality makes me feel happy and with hope!!! Finally, I am relieved that NOT all vegan/plant based restaurants serve unhealthy and fried food. I will gladly continue paying any price for the quality they are providing. Thank you for being a business that cares!
Delicious food, lots of variety on the menu, and amazing service. I stumbled on this place and was excited to try it because everything on the menu sounded great. The pumpkin soup was incredible and the lasagna was delicious. Even the vegan carrot cake was wonderful. I can't wait to go back!
I ordered the portobello stir-fry and it was delicious! The portobello gave me that "meaty/beefy" texture and taste I was hoping for (I'm new at eating vegetarian). I also brought home their refrigerated Thai Kale Quinoa salad to have the next day and I enjoyed that as well I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you try their food. Very good. Even my husband (a meat and potatoes guy) liked the stir-fry!
I have enjoyed numerous dining experiences at GreenFare. During each of my visits, the food has been exceptional, fresh, and delicious. This restaurant is one of only about a half dozen that have been officially certified as organic by the USDA. All of the food they serve is the healthiest possible, and is made from scratch as whole food, plant-based dishes prepared without oil or salt. The staff and management are wonderful, and treat the food they serve as a labor of love. The master chef has designed all dishes from scratch and has mastery knowledge of flavoring with organic herb and spice combinations. I have traveled and dined all over the United States and worldwide, and genuinely believe GreenFare is presently one of the top ten vegan restaurants on Earth. You are truly missing a world-class experience if you don't give them a try.
I have had numerous dishes at this restaurant over a period of years and they have all been delicious. Their head chef, Pericles, does an amazing job composing healthy and delicious meals using organic, whole plant ingredients. During my recent visit to the area, I tried the bbq jackfruit sandwich plate and it was delicious. I recently participated in the restaurant's 21 day kickstart program, where we were able to sample 42 different meals. They were all excellent, and they weigh 1 pound each so they are very filling. I had many favorites--too many to list-- but among my top choices were the fettuccine Alfredo, the Indonesian collards, the mushroom risotto, the Thai quinoa, and the tuna-less casserole. I enjoyed them so much that I ordered several meal plans to take home with me when I left the area. If you're driving to Herndon, I highly recommend you throw a cooler into the car so you can take home a batch of these when you leave. If you live within an easy drive of Herndon, Virginia – – lucky you!
Green Fare is a casual spot with a focus on healthy, creative dishes. No matter what I order for my meal, I always make sure to get their muffins—they’re absolutely delicious. The portions are generous, leaving you satisfied but never weighed down. We also take advantage of their meal plan so we can enjoy their food at home. Since the menu is free of salt, oil, and sugar, the flavors may take a little adjustment if you’re used to heavier, less healthy foods, but the freshness and quality make it well worth
I have never felt so welcomed in a restaurant. The aura, the people, and the food are all so wonderful. I can feel the love they put into their food and THAT is REAL food. Food should be nourishing and enjoyable. I cannot believe most people live their entire lives not questioning what they put in their bodies and how it impacts their health. I'm glad to find a place that not only cares and loves animals, but also loves to promote health in humans (because processed vegan food is not good for you). The owner is one of my favorite people to talk to there! P.S. If you're looking to try anything for the first time. I recommend the BBQ Jackfruit burger with fries. My husband really liked the mac and cheese. We LOVED the butternut squash soup! I am looking forward to trying more food.
I was in town for one day and decided to spend the morning at the Reston Farmer’s Market. I came across GreenFare’s booth and had such a wonderful interaction with the owner. I bought a banana nut chocolate muffin which was both healthy and tasty! He even gifted me a strawberry rhubarb muffin which was so sweet! I highly recommend supporting this business
Quite an EDUCATIONAL place! No added Sodium Oil or Refined sugar, has great authors, one of 5 Certified Organic USDA Certified Restaurants!
Delicious healthy vegan food! Something you should really appreciate while traveling and have junk all day. The owner was lovely and we ended up taking so much more food to go. Very close to the airport which was the reason we found the spot. Anyway, delicious, healthy and plant based. ❤️
We had an amazing and unbelievably healthy Whole Food Plant-based No oil meal here in August 2024. They have a varied menu and a very impressive selection of 'Food as Medicine' books for sale. We had a delicious sweet potato kale lasagna and mushroom quesadilla followed by scrumptious mini muffins and a lemon blueberry square. They also run a 21 day Kickstart program to help people transition to a healthier and more plant-based diet. The staff are amazing and clearly believe in their mission to help others and make it a better world. It doesn't get healthier than this !
Good but expensive vegan food (for multiple trips). Great for special occasions. They are certified organic which is always good. There ingredients were fresh and delicious. They also have a rotating seasonal menu, i love that aspect.
Overall a great experience. Service was friendly and informative, since I’m new to a PBD diet, but it took a while to get my food. Probably a result of everything being from scratch, so that made it just fine. I had to add salt here and there, also fine, since my body is still craving salty things. Decor wise, place felt a little coffee shop-y and could have made it more intimate for dinner. Good prices. Didn’t try dessert, which also seemed a bit pricey ($8-10). Entrees in the $12-18 range. Would come again.
Really enjoyed the unique tasty flavors/dishes, good service and rustic atmosphere.
I'd give 4 stars for effort - they have a loyal advocate in a gentleman named John manning a stall/table at a farmers market at Lake Anne shopping center swearing by their organic food. According to John he is just a customer who has been one for many years. He had their delicious mini muffins - I love their ginger one, naturally sweetened. So much so that I had to drop by Greenfare after I left the market and on my drive back to VA Beach. There were a couple of tables outside, where people were being served. Inside, it reminds me more of an apothecary haven - health books, healthy menu items, very zen ambiance. I love the story behind the motivation to eat healthy, to heal ourselves with what we eat. I love their mini muffins!!
Have eaten here a few times and have enjoyed the food each time. I love that this cafe serves certified-organic meals without salt and oil. It's so hard to find vegan cafes and restaurants that aren't junk food and because some people turn to a plant-based lifestyle for health reasons, it's great to have this cafe as an option. Service has always been great too. I do wish the cafe itself was a little more modern and bright and the meals are quite expensive so it's not somewhere I could choose on a regular basis, but overall it's a great choice for good-quality plant-based meals.
Everything here is vegan, organic, and doesn't contain added sugars, oils, or salt. I admit I was skeptical -- I'm a vegetarian and I enjoy dairy and eggs-- but I thought the food was tasty and the servings generous. I did find myself adding salt to most of what I tried, but I imagine those who need to follow a low-sodium diet will appreciate this approach. Credit to the chef that I didn't miss the added oils or sugar at all. The service was attentive and I enjoyed the eclectic ambiance. My only concern is that it is fairly pricey, so not a place I could afford to eat regularly.
I loved their pineapple upside down muffins. Clean, healthy, low in calories and delicious. I would love to try the rest of their baked foods! Only downside is we didn’t enjoy our mains as much and it’s honestly no one’s fault. Clean food is not meant to be finger licking good. Thank you for the idea behind the restaurant and the motive! I’ll be back for your baked goods soon. P.s there are some real good tasting wfpb Indian recipes that the restaurant can try. Just a recommendation ❤️
In terms of this eatery, I think for what they are trying to achieve this is a great place, but if you have a tree nut allergy it may not be the best place for your needs. I brought my friend here a while back who was vegetarian since they specialize in plant-based food options that’s aren’t highly processed. Like many foods in this category, they use different types of nuts as proteins. They also use a few mushrooms in other dishes so they have a few (at the time only 3 options that could accommodate this dietary restriction.) I think the food was fine as they don’t add any salt as well for heath related reasons, but would have preferred more diverse mushrooms in some of their dishes. For example beefsteak or chicken of the woods would have fit better in their enchiladas than button or white as these already have a meater texture. If these are hard to obtain, oyster mushrooms and enoki can also be prepared in certain methods to give a meater texture when roasted. However the key is making sure to get all the water out first so the mushroom doesn’t retain as much water. I was also mildly disappointed that all desert options had a tree nut in them. My suggestion might be a simple fruit salad since this can easily be prepared with their guidelines using lemon juice as a seasoning and fresh mint instead of processed sugars., Overall though, I was happy my friend had more options than not as he’s mentioned before only having two options mostly high in carbs or not so robust dishes to choose from.
Love that this place is vegan and only serves whole foods! The food definitely tastes like it has nothing "bad" in it though. As a junk food vegan, the BBQ jackfruit burger and sweet potato fries did not satisfy me. The peanut butter mousse cake was pretty good though!
As a mostly salt and oil free vegan, I really wanted to like this place but it was not good. I ordered takeout and to my surprise they charge a mandatory 20% gratuity fee on all orders and then still ask for a tip on top of that. The total without an additional tip was over $40 for an appetizer and entree. The cauliflower bites were extremely dry and hard. They were way overcooked and I had to pick off the burnt ends. The enchiladas were not good either. It was a tasteless wet slop and had so many olives which were the only source of flavor. Not a fan of olives and don’t think they belong on the dish. Unfortunately this place is not for me. Hope they can make some changes in the kitchen and be transparent about their pricing before ordering.
Stopped by while passing through the area. Overall the meal was overpriced and underwhelming. The jackfruit sandwich was tender and had a decent flavor, but it still felt lacking for the price, especially given the dry sandwich bun. The sweet potato fries were flavorless and unseasoned. They didn't pair well with the ketchup, which tasted like tomato sauce from a can. Pictured is the tofu side which was undercooked; the starch coating was still mushy. Two stars because the restaurant is solely plant-based and the actual jackfruit was flavorful.
I am ALL about organic and vegan and I could literally go omnivore and inorganic after trying this "restaurant". Expensive, cold, undercooked and burnt, unsalted and bad taste all together. I truly dont remember the last time I hated something I ate this much. STAY AWAY
I came in yesterday for there “Reversing Diabetes in 28 Days” Event from 5-7 pm. Once I checked in with a gentleman at the counter, I was told to sit at a table of my choosing. I was offered a drink by the man who I checked in with and chose a glass of water. I sat and sat and sat without anyone ever coming to my table again. There were 4 others in the restaurant and two employees. As I understand from the description of the event on Eventbrite, dinner was from 5-6. The gentleman who checked me in was tinkering around the cash register and front counter the entire time. I certainly didn’t understand the format. I read their menu provided at the table.Nearly every dish was prepared with tree nuts or peanuts. After 1/2 hr of sitting and not understanding how the dinner portion of the event or the event in general worked, I finally went up to the man tinkering at the counter and explained my allergy to tree nuts and peanuts. He pointed out two menu items without nuts. I mentioned my concerns for cross contamination and he was noncommittal about the possibility. He obviously didn’t care one way or the other. I decided for my own safety to exit. Interestingly enough, I didn’t smell any food being prepared at all. I overheard the other employee mentioning to a patron, something about their 28 day meal plan?!. Perhaps the event was to market their meal kits?! What bothered me the most is that the “host(s)” never attempted to explain a format for the event, whether we were expected to order and then pay for items off of their menu? Was there a cooking demonstration involved? Was it an interactive event? Was a Registered Dietitian or Medical Professional conducting training? No introductions were made at all. It was all baffling and very strange. A waste of an evening.
