I adore good Mexican food, so I have a handful of real favorites in my neighborhood. Tonight I was at a concert outside of my neighborhood and when it was over, I was craving Mexican food. So I did a search for Mexican near me and came up with La Machaka Tex Mex. Man was I happy I went there! First off they had Barbacoa, which many restaurants do not have, and I love enchiladas so I order enchiladas and a Barbacoa taco on the side. The rice was outstanding, the cheese enchilada ( the best I’ve had in awhile) the refried beans were really good, and the barbacoa taco was to die for! The marg was quite good, as well! Hope you’ll try it.
this is my 3rd time here, and every time has been great! this place is consistently producing good food at a reasonable price in an area where everything seems to keep going up in cost. the staff is always attentive , and the food is flavorful (they don’t cut corners on the sides i.e. rice & beans) so it makes it feel like the value of the plate is really worth it. margs were also good imo. not too syrupy- or limey - just the right balance. (i also like to order 50/50 rocks/frozen and they always accommodate🩷) they had the astros game on, which was appreciated and i really don’t know why this place isn’t busier when i go in! it’s great and probably will be our new go-to spot.
Stopped in for a couple of bar drinks and had a great experience. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere was relaxed. Everything was good.
Excellent experience. Fajitas were a nice thick cut with a wonderful flavor. I particularly enjoyed the red salsa, reminded me of my childhood in San Antonio. Staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. The fact that they also are doing a Spirit night for Leonard Elementary was a big plus. I hope more people will support a local business that chooses to give back to the community. Thank you so much for all you do!
Food was amazing I got the California burrito and it didn’t disappoint. The service was on point really nice and the restroom was super clean ! Definitely worth the visit.
My wife and I love Tex-Mex and would always venture down to Montrose to grab our favorite El Tiempo. We decided to stay closer to Katy and found this place. The food and the service was top notch. Would highly recommend to anyone to check this place out. We’re definitely coming back and super stoked to found a restaurant closer to home
Honestly, the only Mexican food restaurant worth having in this area. Absolutely amazing service. They even recognize us and always seem happy to have us. Never have any complaints after visiting and always leave full and happy. Nothing on the menu is bad, and there are tons of options, so everyone should be able to find something they like. They also have the best margaritas I've had in a long time. 20/10 do recommend
Just a small mom and pop restaurant that seems to be doing it right. The salsas are good but could have a little more spice. All the food was good and the fajitas were tender. Overall very happy with the good and service. The waitress was very polite and if she didn't know the answer she was fast to find it out for us. I'm giving 5 stars because it's better than 4 stars, I wish they had a 4.5 option.
The place is nice, clean, a good range of options in the menu and friendly staff. I order the "Juanita plate" and the soup was delicious. The flight of margaritas was actually really good, my favorite was the cucumber flavor.
Our first visit and an awesome experience! The food and service were excellent! The Stuffed Avocado was huge, and the flameado is the best in Katy. Great flavors! We will be regulars for sure!

Warm slightly spicy red salsa, and delicious cool green avocado cream salsas arrived at the table shortly after we did. Queso, rice, and beans got two thumbs up from my 6 year old, and the house margaritas were tasty and well dressesd 💃 Everything I tasted was fresh, flavorful, and affordable, from what seems to be a locally, family owned restaurant. We will definitely be back!

Have you ever been to a restaurant and wondered if a grandma was back there cooking? That’s exactly how I felt at La Machaka! From the homemade flour tortillas — probably the best I've ever had, second only to my good buddy's grandma’s — to the delicious Molcajete I couldn’t get enough of, this place is definitely worth a visit. I love spicy foods and tried all three salsas, and I was pleasantly surprised—they didn’t hold back! If you enjoy some heat, go for La Toxica! No, not your old ex, but a salsa packed with flavor and just the right amount of spice—not enough to require a waiver or anything. We ordered the enchiladas verdes, Molcajete, and beef fajitas, and all of them were fantastic. Like I said, this place feels and tastes like grandma's kitchen — a cozy spot where your tummy can get some loving.
You NEED to try this place! My girlfriend and I visited this place last week as we were in the mood to explore different Mexican food options in the area and we are very happy we landed on La Machaka! I forget the gentleman's name but our server was very nice and attentive. We liked the painted indoor wall and they have a lovely little patio for outdoor sitting that looks comfy. Food wise, you can definitely tell it is authentic and all made in-house. Tortillas are freshly made (not store-bought), and all the sauces are as well. My girlfriend got the Mole enchiladas and you could immediately tell upon first bite that it was made in-house. Even the sides like the rice was fresh, fluff and seasoned. They also have very well & reasonably priced happy-hour and even-regular hour alcoholic beverage options. Overall, a great find with great food and we will definitely be back!

The food was pretty. The flavor was kind of bland. Our server was great. It was four of us, they gave us one salsa. Asked for more and received an additional ONE. No complaints, I don't think I'd go back. Oh yeah, the margarita was good.
The food was delightful; it had been ages since I indulged in Tex-Mex cuisine, and it did not disappoint. Each dish was flavorful and expertly prepared, providing the perfect balance of spices. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the service was impressively swift, making the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. The portions were just right—not too large, yet satisfying—and everything tasted remarkably fresh. The salsas were particularly outstanding, bursting with vibrant flavors that complemented the meal perfectly. The only downside was that the floor felt a bit slippery, but aside from that minor issue, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, enhancing the overall experience.
Very friendly staff and clean restaurant. The queso was really good but we were not a big fan of the fire roasted salsa. My hard tacos were seasoned well and enjoyed them. My wife had the street tacos and didn't like them so much. They did bring a green hot sauce with the street tacos that was really spicy and flavorful, yum. My daughter and her friend enjoyed their food. Will be back to try something different.
The ONLY reason I didn’t give it the 5th star is because I just can’t understand why most Tex-Mex restaurants hardly give you pico, sour cream and guacamole. When we arrived at 8:15pm, there was one lady inside eating and when we were half way through our meal a couple arrived. So service was nice because it was dead slow My husband and I ordered the Beef & Chicken Fajitas for 2. The meat was so very tender and juicy!! Absolutely delicious!! The tortilla I feel were house made and so warm and soft I could have just ate them alone!!! The charro beans were ok. I’m not a bean person but I ate these a little. My 10 year old daughter ordered the Chicken Ranchero Enchiladas. The kids menu only comes with one so she got the adult menu. She loved them. She only ate 2, so dad ate the last one and he even complimented them. We also got a small queso with our chips and it was good. The chip were very good and they are served with green salsa, and a red tomato salsa. We were very pleased. We will be back to visit for sure!

Pretty good place to eat. Fajitas needed a little more flavor but the sauce was good. The red sauce for the chips is delicious! Went during their happy hour, and their margarita flight was delicious!

Very good spot! Mole plate was bomb! Definitely get that again! Their $10 shot on top margarita was on point!! Got 2 of them! Service was very professional and friendly. Shout out to Cirilo C. He did a wonderful job as the server! Atmosphere vibe was clean and chill. Will definitely come back! Music can be a little bit louder!

Recently opened restaurant. Small but convenient for the area. Everyone was nice. Waiter got my order wrong bt other staff quickly corrected. Chicken fajita meat was ok I personally would like it cooked longer and more (melted) cheese on the quesadillas mine fell apart. Beans and rice were bland.

Its not bad… The cheese dip sucks dont even bother ordering. Its legit velvetta cheese the green sauce was pretty good. The chips are homemade. The restaurant decor is bland and the furniture toward the back makes it look tacky. The waiter is a hit and miss. He was nice but not attentive. Green chicken enchiladas were good. Rice amazing. But the red. Was disgusting. Would i eat here again. I mean. If i had to .. its like mcdonalds u dont eat it unless ur starving. Get better service better cheese and work out the kinks for the food. Work on the decor paint the white stained walls mexican flag or something and take off the magazine covers on the wall.

me and my family visit this place this afternoon and safe to say we won’t be going back. food had NO flavor and chicken looked undercooked, i sent it back and was asked if i wanted anything else and i said no, i could already tell the food was awful. when we arrived it was only one other party (that should tell you something about a restaurant) so i automatically knew it was not going to be good. so since it was super slow i thought the service would’ve been better but it lacked that too.
