This was a great place to stop and warm up while out Christmas shopping. I got the Tsunami ramen and takoyaki. The broth of the ramen was so rich and flavorful, it instantly lifted my spirits. The spice level was well balanced and the other ingredients were perfectly cooked. I look forward to making this a regular stop while in Frederick.
I have been here several times now. As with every other time, the food was exceptional, the service was fantastic, and the atmosphere was peaceful. 1000% will visit again and continue to point everyone interested to this establishment.
My wife and I had a fantastic meal at Tsunami. We both ordered Ramen dishes which were delicious. Great portions and just as delicious for lunch the next day. The highlight of the meal was their special appetizer Ahi Tuna Nachos. One of the most flavorful dishes I’ve had in a long time and it should be a regular in the menu. The only reason the atmosphere was 4 stars is that it was quite dark. A small candle or illumination on each table would make the dinning room perfect.
This is a winter staple for me! Went last week and got the special - curry chicken karrage ramen. Very good but very heavy! Should have shared or opted for something not coconut milk based. The shrimp appetizer is *chefs kiss*
The ramen is rich and delicious and service is fast. The cocktails and appetizers are simple and light and are perfect for sharing with friends or a date. Highly recommend. ✨ During our most recent visit, the power on the whole block went out due to an accident down the street. Our waitress Shiloh was incredibly accommodating, friendly, and kind. She made sure we had candles, full drinks, and ensured payment was easy and secure despite the circumstances. Huge shoutout to her for their amazing service: we will be coming back.
We just walked into this place as we walked Frederick and we were not disappointed!! Started our night with Forever Beer and Oceans 11 drinks and dumplings and spring rolls. I could have made either my meal. Delicious!!! The main courses were fantastic as well. Spicy Miso Sapporo, Tonkotsu Ramen, Spicy Bulgogi Ramen…..ALL of them were incredible!!! Plan a trip, spontaneously pop in……either way, stop here and eat a meal!!
Absolutely delicious! Our party of 6 enjoyed amazing items such as the tsunami mami drink, mandu dumpling, tuna tartare, veggie spring roll, veggie ramen bowl & shrimp tacos. Cute ambiance, centrally located in downtown Frederick. Matt our server was attentive & friendly. Would definitely return & highly recommend!
I couldn't wait to write the review. I am currently sitting at the table stuffed and slightly tipsy. The appetizers were fantastic, the drinks are strong and the ramen is beyond fantastic. The service is spectacular and I can't say enough about the staff being nice and friendly. If you are in the area I highly recommend.
Went to Tsunami last night for the first time and I must say...it was AH-MAZING! We wanted to eat outside, but that wait was long so we ventured inside. Glad we did! The atmosphere was great, the people were even better. Now let’s talk food! Ok, the Bang Bang Shrimp was so good that I ate the greens after the shrimp was gone. I never do that. It was light and not drenched in sauce. I ordered the Red Curry Ramen. OMG!! Everything about it was PERFECT. The egg was cooked just right. I will not even discuss the croissant bread pudding...just go and try it! I will definitely be back!!
I've never had ramen that wasn't from a package at home, so I definitely wanted to try this place. I was not disappointed! I ordered the Chicken Karaage Ramen and it was delicious. My server was attentive and polite. I went at lunchtime so it wasn't crowded at all. If you're looking to try REAL ramen, try Tsunami!
I ordered curbside pickup for lunch today. Staff were kind enough to run the food out to my car in the alley up the street a bit (thanks Shawn, or Sean?) I got the Tuna Tartare to start and the Red Curry for my main. Delicious! My only critique is I wanted just one more slice of chashu pork with my curry. Not a big deal, because the dish made up for it in a big way with the medium spice broth and a perfect poached egg. I look forward to my next meal from Tsunami!
One of the most delicious vegetarian ramens I have ever had! It had everything I love in a bowl of ramen. Great service too
I don't think I've had a bad experience here, been probably a dozen times. Unique atmosphere with cool lighting. Friendly staff, dope ramen options. Taco options low key slap. Service varies but mostly A tier, great addition downtown
My family and I visited and had an absolutely delicious meal. The shrimp cakes were outstanding and the bowls were delicious. I do wish there were more gluten free options for my husband but he made do. We had an issue with the service we received and the manager was thoughtful and made sure we had a resolve that would make us happy. We’ll definitely be back!
Really nice place. We were looking for a lunch place during the Frederick Art Fair, an annual thing we do with friends. Tsunami is one of the very few places that took reservations. Only 2-3 blocks from the main area. The food is very good. We got a bunch of Bento Boxes. It was all amazing. The waitstaff was attentive and popped by regularly to be sure all was well. This may be our new annual lunch place. Definitely recommend!!!
Every visit is a great experience. I love to eat here with friends and family. The service and food is always phenomenal.
Really good food ate here during a busy pre holiday weekend and was well taken care of! Also ordered for delivery another time and the spicy tonkatsu Ramen was really good! Recommend it!
Best ramen in the town. Amazing food with nice ambience. We started with Takoyaki, Shanghai Dumpling and Korean Shrimp Pancake as appetizer. The pancake was kind of fritters, it tastes delicious. For the entrees ordered Tsunami Ramen, Chicken Karage Ramen and Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen. Tsunami ramen was was so good, specially the slice of pork in it. Highly recommend this place for dine in.
This is one of the best (if not the best) ramen places around Frederick. The server was very nice and despite there being quite a crowd on the weekend, still made an effort to check on us. We got tuna spicy tuna bite appetizer, a taro milk tea, Tsunami ramen, and bulgogi tacos. Again, the ramen was fantastic! It got the right amount of spice...maybe a little heavy on the butter but my husband wasn't complaining. XD The milk tea was a bit heavy on the brown sugar but still tasty and the rest of the food were good. Definitely would visit again!
Great ramen experience downtown Frederick. The restaurant is quaint and has a great selection of dishes. We loved the tuna nachos and our ramens. The staff was super attentive and friendly and helped when we had questions about some of the food and drinks. Great unique cocktail list too!
I’ve given a review of Tsunami once before but it needs a little updating. Service, Food, Atmosphere, simply amazing. The servers were so helpful with their recommendations and were also extremely attentive when needed. In terms of food, the Ramen and appetizers were second to none in Frederick. I didn’t get the change to eat the Tacos but I heard they are also fantastic. Great job Tsunami. Leave a like if this helped you!
It's our second time here at Tsunami, since it's getting colder a good ramen it's a great choice, we order the shoyu ramen and the tempura ramen, takoyaki and the satay tacos everything was delicious, since it was not that crowded the service was fast. My visit was on Sunday but in case you decide to come during the week there is happy hour from 4 to 6pm.
The Taunami ramen I had was very delicious! Full of flavor, perfectly cooked egg and pork… It’s my new favorite spot!
Had the Tantanmen Ramen and Croissant Pudding and I don't think I've ever had such a delicious meal in such a long time. The ramen was plentiful and very spicy just the way I wanted it, and the Croissant Pudding was a perfect blend of toasty bread and cold ice cream. Want to come back for more!
The red curry ramen is honestly one of my 3 favorite meals in Frederick. It is the perfect portion size and spice. I think about it often.
This new Ramen Restaurant is absolutely amazing! The inside is decorated with some of the most beautiful asian art you will see in downtown Frederick. The servers and cook's were very friendly, kind and welcoming. If you like sweet thai tea's I recommend getting one from here, for me it was a little to sweet but if you got that sweet tooth, it's perfect for you. The appetizers we had were the chicken Karage (amazing and the sauce was fresh) SeaWeed Salad (Fresh and full of flavor) and the braised short ribs (which was the definition of mouth watery). For the main dish we both had the Tonkatsu bowl. The noodles you can tell were very fresh, the soup broth was delicious and full of flavor. The only thing I would say is, however which way they cooked their meat, left it just a little bit dry for my taste. But besides that, all around wonderful, great, experience and I would highly recommend anyone reading this to go check them out!
We were looking at all of the tapas places in Fredrick and decided to give this one a try! And let me tell you, we were not disappointed! All of our plates were delicious and the atmosphere was very chic. My favorite thing was probably the chashu pork belly tapas, pan roasted chicken tapas (with the best Brussels sprouts I have ever had in my entire life!) and taro bubble tea.
Every thing was excellent.. First time dining here..Party of 6 we tried a wide variety of appetizers and meals.. Wait staff was very attentive. too full for dessert.. Will definitely be back
Came in for dinner with my girlfriend. We started with the gyoza. Great pan, fried dumplings, and a good price on happy hour. We both got the chicken karagage Ramen. Ramen itself was delicious. Broth was very flavorful. Could have used some more chicken in my opinion. Service was incredible. Food came out insanely fast. Good stop for some Ramen.
I love this place the food is healing and healthy. The spicy miso ramen and bang bang shrimp with rice added are my go to dishes. The happy hour is also nice time of day with a good crowd.
Went there for the first time. Because of the season made reservations ahead. It was crowded, but not wall to wall packed. Table spacing is great and roomy. Service was outstanding, friendly and attentive. The food was great. The bulgogi Bento Box was very good.
We generally go to Moco for ethnic food but recently ran into some people who work here and decided to try it. I’m so upset with myself for not coming here sooner. My Vietnamese husband is very very particular about Asian food and we were blown away. He got Special, spicy beef bulgogi Ramen and ate it all! He was thrilled, I got the Tantanmen and it was the perfect spice and so flavorful. Our server Shell was so attentive, kind and gave thoughtful suggestions. We will be back!! Special shout out to Shell for dealing with the winey people next to us who didn’t really what ramen, I think they just wanted grilled chicken with no flavor. It was entertaining listening to them try to change everything to the bland way they wanted it to be. She handled it with kindness and grace.
Went a little over a week ago for my birthday. Got sat in a beautifully lit corner by the window. The food was excellent. The drinks were delicious and creative. Our whole experience was made perfect by our waiter Emerson. He was super kind and engaging. Definitely made the whole experience feel very comfortable and welcoming.
Went for Ramen but listened to other reviewers and went for the bang bang shrimp. The plate was lined with spinach and other greens and a delicate dresssing. Saw some beautiful looking cocktails and heard a lot of omg…so good comments from others. Delish! Try it. You won’t be sorry.
Excellent spot right in downtown Frederick, perfect for right before going to a show at the MET. I really love the red curry ramen. Great flavor, great noodle texture, perfectly cooked ramen eggs, and the bamboo shoots (menma) are flavorful and tender and better here than anywhere else I've had them.
I am so glad my ex-husband was in the 1st restaurant that I walked into for lunch…because girl!!! Omg!! The food was so good! I was beyond full but couldn’t stop! Didn’t even take a breath between bites. My tsunami drink was really good too! I can’t say enough great things. The food and service were amazing!! Thank you so much!
Tsunami Ramen is hands-down one of my favorite spots! The food is always fresh, flavorful, and full of life. Every visit feels like a treat. The spicy miso ramen is my go-to. Rich, bold, and packed with just the right amount of heat. The broth has so much depth, and the noodles are always perfectly cooked. And don’t even get me started on the Bang Bang Shrimp; crispy, tender, and tossed in that addictive sauce that keeps you coming back for more. It’s the perfect appetizer before diving into a hot bowl of ramen. The staff is super friendly, the atmosphere is chill, and the food never disappoints. I also love how welcoming they are. If you love ramen (or just great food in general), Tsunami Ramen is a must-try! It’s my go-to place when I’m in Frederick, MD.
I’ve been going to Tsunami since 2021, and not once has the food disappointed. Whether I’ve gone solo or with friends, it’s always a hit—everyone loves it. Their Bang Bang Shrimp is hands-down the best I’ve ever had—no other place even comes close. The ramen broth is incredibly rich and flavorful. If you haven’t been yet, you’re seriously missing out. I highly recommend this place!
Pretty cool little restaurant in downtown Frederick that is close to the parking garage. The staff here is very friendly. If you like spicy food you will have to check out this place. The food here is very fast served. You might have some wait times to get in. Overall, it’s worth the wait and experience.
Uncomfortable chairs & loud music are ploys to turn tables faster. Otherwise, it's great ramen.
Everything was really great. The takoyaki was cooked perfectly. The chashu pork un the ramen melted in your mouth. The ramen was loaded with toppings rather than too much broth. The only negative I can realy give is the spoons they provide are ladles. My hand on the end of the spoon was above my head when I tried to eat the broth. Other than that small issue, great new place in downtown!
Service was above and beyond. Their Happy Hour deals were great! The menu was well curated. We enjoyed the ambiance: it was cozy, urban, and perfect level of hustle & bustle. We loved the Shrimp Pancakes the best. The rest of the food was not anything to write home about but, also not really any complaints. It also threw me off that an Asian fusion restaurant didn’t have carafes of soy sauce but rather served individual packets. With that said, I’m intrigued by dishes I didn’t get to order and would eat at Tsunami again. Would recommend making reservations!
Ramen soup was fine but the pork belly in it was bland. Chicken karaage bowl and dumplings were really good.
Really flavorful dishes. Service is always good. Restaurant is clean. The red curry ramen is crazy good. The small plates are all 2-4 dollars too expensive in my opinion and the happy hour deals are not very good. But the entrees are a better value and unique in downtown frederick.
Food. Was. Delicious! But I don't know if I got my money's worth completely. On eof our bowls Of Ramen seemed a little light on noodles. But the taste was fantastic! Service was excellent. Food came Quickly. I would happily go back.
Cozy little place, great for when it's cold out! I had the chicken Ramen, the chicken was fried and came in a separate fry basket. My daughter got the spicy pork, both were good. Service was good, parking is on the street with meters or in the parking garage, not sure of the cost. Our soups were $13.00 & $14.00 each. They serve alcohol, however, I didn't have any. Tables are small, very cozy place.
Went on a Sunday. The restaurant fill up quickly within the first 30 minutes. Food came out quickly. Nice interior design. Ordered the Chicken Karaage, Chashu Roll, Tonkatsu Ramen, Spicy Miso Sapporo Ramen, and Red Curry Ramen. Red curry was very similar to a laksa base but much sweeter. The noodles were on the softer side, not al dente. Would go back to try more of the appetizers and other dishes such as the donburi bowls.
This is my first visit to this ramen restaurant. I ordered the takoyaki (octopus ball) and Korean shrimp pancake as the starters and beef bulgogi ramen from the "special" menu, plus chicken karaage ramen. The takoyaki and shrimp pancake are both well cook and taste good. The beef bulgogi ramen is spicy and taste good also. The major thing to complain is the portion of ramen is small. Of course you can choose to pay $4 more for extra ramen. Besides the meal, I also ordered the taro bubble tea. The drink itself is ok but the boba is a bit too hard.
A Japanese restaurant known for their ramen, which is quickly prepared and tastes delicious. The amount of food provided satisfies one's hunger without feeling overly full. I would recommend just coming for their ramen. All the options are good, but note that their spicy is on the spicier side. Definitely tolerable for someone who's not too experienced, but it can be a lot. Even though they are supposedly known for their "tapas", their tapas are on the pricier side and not true tapas as they aren't enough of an entree for one person. The appetizers are good, but once again on the pricier side for the amount. Overall, I really loved the decorations, especially around Halloween time, and the staff are incredibly kind and friendly.
For this small town, this ramen is lit! The broth is rich and the noodles were ideal for the type of ramen. The takoyaki is good too with a chunk of octopus, feels like this one they made it in house. The service was nice, attentive and they easily handle the number of customers with breeze. Parking might be tricky, street parking or garage parking is available nearby.
Overall good and would consider returning. Hostess originally placed us in one of the wings by the entrance which wasn't great (stuffy, too bright, and couldn't see interior), but our server moved us when we asked. Ramen was good except for the fridge-cold eggs (would have preferred at least room temp), and server put the chili oil on the side which was nice. Server was friendly and helpful. They had a food delivery come through the dining room which was odd.
Craving ramen, Yelp directed me to Tsunami close to our Airbnb in downtown Frederick. Top-rated, I went in hopeful. Walking in around noon for lunch on an April Friday, I got a seat at the bar easily. Staff were friendly, attentive, and my food came out quickly (as did the check). Great service! Enjoying ramen around the world in my travels, I was disappointed in my ramen. The red curry ramen comes with pork, but the egg wasn't properly cooked for ramen. (The yolk was overcooked and hard.) The flavors also didn't pop. Everything was muted. The wontons on top add a little crunch, but eat it right away before they get soggy. The milk tea boba came with some syrup inside that took away from the milk tea flavor. It was way too sweet. (I have sweet tooth so if I found it too sweet, it's really too sweet.) It's possible I ordered wrong so I'd love to give it a second chance when I return to Frederick. Also, the staff were excellent and the space is beautiful, decorated with murals everywhere.
Food is flavorless. Somewhat disgusting ramen. Great Service! Wegmans food court food is a 5* restaurant quality comparing to this place.
THIEVES!! They stole my purse and claims that I walked out with it yet when I called to ask if they had it the first thing the host said was “oh the tan bag”!! Before I even described it. This place is absolutely awful. Don’t recommend.
Few days ago, i wanted to have good ramen to remind my old good years when i lived in bangkok, i lived in japanese area where i was lucky to eat authentic food, u dont serve anything else than authenthic to japanese people who lived in this area. Quick review, details follow below the pro : effort in japanese decor, feel in a smart japanese restaurant where u go when u want to be seen nice design of dishes use to serve food service ok The cons : The food !!! in detail what i didnt like: The ramen broth was tasteless... Wich is to me the MOST important thing in a ramen restaurant. I ordered tonkotsu ramen as it supposed to be fat, creamy and tasty. At first sight i already saw the broth was not thick enough and unfortunately tasteless. other fail the egg : it supposed to be marinated in marinade full of 'Umami' and cooked to be egg with runny yolk. What i got was undercooked ( white still liquid) and tasteless. Chicken karaage i got , was served in nice dishes, look like chicken nuggets from Chain food. No crispy and also tasteless. Takoyaki octopus : swimming in their sauce with so poor amount of octopus, one of the four even didnt had any pieces. Far away to even street food vendor takoyaki... egg noodles in my ramen were not fresh homemade noodles ... i will not recomment this restaurant.... Dont bring japanese people to this place !
