Beautiful restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere. Table chips brought to you upon seating and drink orders promptly taken by the respectful and attentive staff. The food is deliscious and the flavors are fragrant and aromatic for your palate. The food is plated beautifully and dipping sauces and other condiments are available for sampling with your dishes. The staff is attentive to your every need and makes dining at Clay Oven a truely transportative experience.
Amazing! We stopped here last minute and had a great experience. This is the best Indian food we’ve ever had! From the service to the atmosphere to the complimentary chips and dipping chutneys/sauces to our entrees, we loved everything. When we first arrived they brought out some chips (not sure what these are called, see picture) and three different dipping chutneys/sauces. The sauces were so good we asked for another basket of chips. 🤤 The atmosphere was great! Very inviting and relaxing. Then we both order beers and cheese pakora to share. The cheese pakora was a fried cheese. The cheese was a little different (it wasn’t stringy) but it still tasted great! Also the beers were chill perfectly and they brought us ice cold glasses. For entrees I ordered the chicken korma and my fiancé ordered the chicken curry. We also ordered cheese naan bread to share with our dinners. Everything was SO good! We’ll definitely be back! ONE SUGGESTION: I would love to see lamb Korma added to the menu. I have had this at other Indian restaurants and loved it. I bet it would be better at this place!
We tried the clay oven last night and the food was phenomenal! We got 2 appetizers (shrimp and chicken), the cheese naan, lamb tikka masala and chicken Curry. The masala was the best we’ve ever had. Not sure what the crackers and dips were they served us at first but they were delicious. Also, the rice pudding- wow! We’re excited to go back and try more of the menu. Will be great when they get their liquor license. The service was a little slow but they just opened and they were SO busy, we didn’t mind waiting! It’s a must try.
Chicken Tikka sauce was bonkers and also the Indian Kulcha. The only thing that would make it 11/10 is if they used chicken thighs but that’s just a personal preference. Also the atmosphere was great with a kind gentle soul who took my order for To-go.
Amazing Indian food, great vibes, tasty food, superb pricing. Can't get any better. Managers and staffs there are of top quality too. Akash thank you for your amazing service the other day.
If I was a death row inmate and had to choose a final meal before I died I would get the Navratan Korma and Saag Paneer with the garlic and the onion naan. It never disappoints. I love this place.
Great price for great food, accompanied by polite/professional staff. If you live in the area you ought to give it a try. The Lamb Curry was amazing and the Chicken Tikka Masala is as good if not better than other places I've been.
One of the best places I have ever visited. It has a varity of most amazing and delicious food. It's a must visit spot if you ever visit Syracuse(US) if you want to eat healthy, delicious and fabulous food. It got that superb goat chicken. Such nice people around all over waiting for you like you are their guest. In my view it's the best place to eat in syracuse
This place is fantastic! All the food we tried was delicious, the best Indian food I’ve ever had. The owner and his family were very friendly and welcoming. The whole experience was wonderful, we will be back!
I went with a friend and had the buffet, and then I brought home chicken korma and chicken tikka masala for my family. The buffet was great. It’s a good opportunity to try a bunch of things that you wouldn’t normally order, and they switch it out so it isn’t the same lineup every week. I tried both of the dishes that I brought home as well and they were great! There was also only one waiter from what I saw who was absolutely killing it between hosting and serving by himself. Thrilled to have found good Indian food in NY, I’ll definitely be back.
First time trying Indian food. We were very skeptical at first but pleasantly surprised upon having no it. We tried the lunch buffet and everything we ate was very good. I can’t even begin to remember what we had, but if you’re looking for something out of your normal food choices definitely give them a try. We absolutely will be going back.
You know you’re in the right place when the aromas coming from the kitchen make you swoon a little bit when you walk in the door. Beautiful restaurant, personable prompt service and incredibly spot on food. Everything was fresh, portions were generous and the seasoning and preparation of every dish was perfection. We had lamb chop appetizer, the Clay oven special soup, Tandoori salmon, and chicken buryani. The sauce for the tandoori was so delicious we got an extra order to take home with our leftovers. Couldn’t be happier with our meal
This was surprisingly great! I really enjoyed my meal and experience. The service was outstanding! We came in with my 2 year old granddaughter and right away he brought her some crayons and rice pudding. He was very attentive to us and helpful. My curry was awesome. Everyone loved their order and the appetizers were excellent. If you like Indian food this is definitely worth the stop!!!!!
Clay Oven is absolutely tantalizing for your taste buds. First visit here and the food was amazing. Every bite was delicious and everything was flavorful and cooked to perfection. From the poppers and dipping sauces to our appetizers of vegetable spring rolls and the dry chicken, to the garlic naan and main dishes of Lamb Bhuna and the Green vegetable diwan. It has immediately risen to the top of favorite Indian food I've ever had. If you like Indian food, get here now! If you don't like it, let them make you a believer!! Loved the energy and Atmosphere, it feels brand new, well spaced and even with a fuller house it never felt loud, while the music fills the space with a fun energy. Now into the interesting problem. The pace of play at arrival, after we first sat and when we were waiting for boxes and then waiting for the check was terribly long. Actually writing this review while in the restaurant, still waiting for my check...hmm. The staff is super nice and was phenomenal and quick after ordering and during our meal. So not sure what the disconnect was here, but hopefully that gets figured out. I hope your experience has all the wonders along with a consistent pace so you can, as always...Enjoy!! Update, went to the lunch buffet. 13 dollars a person and so easily worth it. Go eat here, it really is amazing
I saw them on grub hub and wanted to see and taste this restaurant myself since it was so close to us 😎 What an ambiance they have created, very well managed restaurant with trained employees and superb in taste. Pretty huge menu, loved the chicken Korma, special chicken boneless tikka, Rogni and garlic naan was something, also tried aalo paratha which was mind blowing. We also got to know they do have buffet everyday but only lunch time. So will definitely going to try it soon and bring the whole family. Welcome to neighborhood 🥳 I also got to know they
Restaurant Review This restaurant offers a good variety of vegetarian options, which is a definite plus for Vegetarians. While the taste wasn’t exceptional, it was decent enough for a casual meal. The prices are very reasonable, making it a budget-friendly choice. The ambiance is pleasant and adds to the overall experience. Worth considering if you’re looking for variety and affordability over gourmet flavors.
My time at this restaurant was enjoyable and pleasant! My sister and I got only appetizers and lentil soup to share among the both of us. We got Chili pakoras, potato tikki, potato samosas, and steamed idly. All these things were delicious but our ultimate favorite was the potato tikki. My own slight disappointment was that on their website they advertised having dosas when they actually do not. Besides that this restaurant is amazing! Staff was amazing just like their food! :)
They need to hire more people. There is normally 1-2 people to run the entire front side of the restaurant. First time we ate there, their food was great but to check out took 30 minutes. Second time for take out I waited 20 minutes past the scheduled time for pick up, happens. Just now I walked in there to pick up food I was told they were working on it. After waiting 10 minutes he called out my name and a door-dasher’s orders and handed us food bags that were on the counter the whole time we were there. So waited 10 minutes for nothing, then got home and only got 2/3 of my meals.
I'm giving it 3 stars because I'm hopeful. This was my favorite place to eat, I came here almost weekly with my girlfriend until we went to explore some other places. This is my first time back in a few months and everything has went downhill aside from the flavor of the food. It took us 5 minutes before someone came to greet us and seat us to which he simply pointed to a table. Took even longer for someone to come take our order, we waited 30 minutes for our food and when we got it it was almost room temp. After a few minutes of eating it's cold and normally it comes out steaming hot. I'm currently writing this as I sit here with no one checking on us, no one refilling our drinks, and a line of people not being spoken to that are waiting to be seated. I can understand a rough night and maybe short staffing but the least you can do is check on costumers or be nice to them. I'm not sure if I'll be coming again which makes me incredibly sad.
Very nice ambiance..excellent service. The various meats are simply not tender. I have eaten Indian food for many years all over the country and am very familiar with the appropriate preparation. Wish it wasn't so. It's one of my favorite cuisines.
I just ate here on a recommendation. It's the worst Indian restaurant I've ever been in: When we entered we were in a large space that was empty, apart from a bar on the right hand side. It wasn't clear what it was we were supposed to do: wait for a seater, or go further in past the bar and through the opening on our right. There was no one there to greet us. We decided to proceed past the bar, and a waiter (wearing a baseball cap) showed us to our seats, and gave us the menus. I picked up my very distressed-looking fork, and scraped a flake of something off its handle. Each of the two of us had a glass of warm water waiting on the table for us. We were left longer than necessary for two people to decide, and there were no poppadoms. We ordered dal tadka, green vegetable diwani handi, and a wholewheat tandoori roti. I checked with the waiter (the same fellow that had seated us) that the food would be vegan, and he said it would. Typically at an Indian restaurant you will be asked the level of heat that you want. That didn't happen. The food was quite mildly hot, so fair enough for me, but too hot for my friend. The food came - a plate of rice with a serving spoon, and the two other dishes in bowls with no serving spoons. No dinner plates were brought - we had to serve with our own spoons onto the appetizer plates, which I noticed had a kind of greasy coating on them. The very small, white-looking roti had oil on it. I asked if it was ghee, and was told that it was butter (not vegan). Indian culture has a very strong vegetarian/pure veg (vegan to us) content. I was surprised to have got the butter. The green vegetable dish was a slimy-looking, unappetizing concoction, with a whitish tinge that straight away said cream/dairy to me. A few bites in I encountered a piece of what seemed like paneer (cheese). I politely asked the waiter (a different one) if it was paneer, and he summoned the baseball cap waiter, who told me that the green vegetable dish does contain paneer, but that he would replace it. Now I was concerned that I had misread the menu - I wouldn't want any restaurant to replace any dish that I had mistakenly ordered, so I asked for the menu so that I could check the description of the dish. The waiter ignored my request, and kept saying that the dish did contain cheese. After asking three times, he brought me the menu, and cheese wasn't listed as an ingredient. Another bowl of the green vegetable dish was brought (in reasonable time), which looked exactly like the first bowl (creamy). I ate a forkful, and it was the same stuff - I'm sure that it was the same preparation with the pieces of paneer fished out. We finished the rice from the plate. No more rice was offered. We asked for the check and a box for my friend to take the green vegetables home. The box was brought, and the waiter also had a pitcher, which, as we were about to leave, he used to replenish, for the first time, our glasses with warm water. As we left through the strange, undefined space in the front part, the baseball cap waiter was there, occupied with a task, from which he didn't raise himself to wish us goodnight, or thank us. My friend said "goodnight" to him, and he didn't respond. During the meal there was a South Asian-looking couple next to us, but they were the only ones. None of the other customers appeared Desi. The dal tadka was OK, but very salty, and thin. That's the best I can do.
We have been at this restaurant many times but our last two visits were not so good. The staff and their service is not like before. They increased the price of their buffet but the taste of the food is okay. Before it was good, I don't know why they keep changing their staff everytime. I am not gonna come to this restaurant again.
My experience at Clay Oven Restaurant was honestly one of the worst I’ve had in a long time. The daal makhni was completely flavorless — watery, bland, and nothing like authentic daal makhni. It tasted as if it had been sitting out for hours. The saag was even worse: the texture was mushy, the taste was dull, and it did not feel fresh at all. The buffet was a total disappointment. Most of the dishes were cold, poorly prepared, and lacked any real taste. The variety was minimal, and the food that was available felt old and reheated. For the price they charge, the quality was absolutely unacceptable. Service was slow and unprofessional. Staff seemed uninterested, and cleanliness was clearly not a priority — several tables were dirty, and the utensils didn’t feel properly washed.
