We went to Panxa Cocina to try out the happy hour menu. I remember this place when it used to be Christie's. Most of the drinks are discounted for happy hour and we're delicious. As for snacks we ordered the Asada fries and some soft tacos. Both were delicious. I would have liked a bit more meat in my taco but otherwise it was fine. This place has such a cool vibe and is popular with the locals. I like it especially since I can walk there and enjoy some drinks without having to drive. Parking is limited so be prepared to walk. Overall, a great place to have some after work drinks and a nice date night for dinner. Highly recommend!
1. Get the cornbread 2. Get the fry bread Just landed from out if town and I forget how spoiled LA/SOCal folks are for Mexican food. Can’t wait to try the cocktails- I honestly might only eat here all weekend!
I had originally called the restaurant making a reservation for 11 on a Saturday morning which ended up dwindling down to a party of 6 with no issues. The restaurant was extremely accommodating and happy to serve us no matter how large or small our party ended up being. The food was delicious however some of the portions did seem rather small for the cost. The staff was friendly and very attentive. The cocktails were great and I’m bummed I didn’t get a picture. Overall great choice, would be back if I’m in the area
Some of the tastiest and most unique food! The margaritas (flaquita, and watermelon basil) were fresh and delicious. We ordered a a variety of dishes and everything was on point. The standout dish was the Duck Carnitas. Service was also exceptional. Amanda was as knowledgeable as she was kind and efficient. Save room for dessert!!
I want to start off by thanking my server Christina. A true professional, she knew the menu front to back , she new all the ingredients and she made my wife and fell at home, thank you Christina. I’m giving 5 stars for the overall hospitality and food quality and uniqueness, I did have some minor issues with two of my dishes , but it was all cancelled out by the others. I had such a great time and I can’t wait to return. This is what I ordered : Chips and dips - $12 – Comes with hatch green chile salsa, Guacamole, black bean puree, and House chips. Nice starter, really gets you in the mood for south western adventure your mouth is about to take. Duck Carnitas - $16 – Duck leg slow cooked to perfection might have been braised, not sure but the meat just fell off the bone, salsa macha, chimayo chilaquiles, and pickled onions. This was hands down my favorite dish of the night. Everything went together so well, and the chiaquiles weren’t soggy !! that’s a big deal for me. Green Chile Cornbread - $12 – Made with Hatch chile, and topped with whipped honey butter and honey. This was good but you need to eat it right away, which I did not do, by the time I got to it was hard as a rock. I did still eat it and it was great. I really loved the charred edges the most. Charred Purple Cabbage - $15 – Made with mixed greens, oregano vinaigrette, roasted tomato, goat cheese, apples and topped with a quarter cut of charred purple cabbage. So many amazing flavors, my only problem with this dish was that it was very hard to eat, I tried to cut the charred cabbage and proceeded to flick salad all over the table. But overall a very good salad. Caramelized Corn - $9 – Corn, Morita Aioli, lime, Cotija, Paprika . Classic and creamy, spicy and sweet. Mushroom Mole Enchiladas - $18 – Grilled garlic mushrooms, Queso Qaxaca, mole, Sesame Seeds, Radish. Very smooth and rich flavor from the mole, I always love a good mole. And lastly I got the dinner special, braised lamb shank in a birria consommé with rice to sop up all that tangy, smoky, juice, A true treat. I’m sure I am missing a bunch of ingredients and my description does not do this dish justice.
What a tasty experience. As someone who loves Mexican and Mexican American food, I thoroughly enjoyed Panxa's take on the cuisine. Everything was really balanced and we tried new flavor combos. The mole was on point. Sweet and spicy. The pork chop and corn was to die for. And the ceviche was topnotch and different. The real test were those beans, and they knocked it out of the park. Thanks for such a fun experience.
Easily one of the best local restaurants in Los Angeles. This is high quality southwestern-style cuisine, and they have it figured out! I always get the blue corn pancakes. They are the best pancakes I've ever had anywhere. Today I tried the stacked enchiladas with short rib and egg on top, on the recommendation of our waiter, and wow. The meat is tender, the green chili sauce is incredibly flavorful with just a bit of spice, and the corn tortillas have that perfect texture and soft corn flavor. This is a frequent spot for me. Highly recommended.
This restaurant is located in a terrific old building. Very interesting. There is outdoor dining, as well as variety of settings indoors. Large bar well stocked. Menu offers brunch, lunch and dinner. Many dishes with a Spanish influence. The stacked short rib enchilada, and the roasted chicken and corn waffles with syrup we're all extremely good. Somewhat unusual menu with a good payoff.
A gem in the Long Beach area for Latin inspired food. My favorites were the shrimp clam and pasta and the ceviche. Lots of flavors and fresh quality seafood. Full bar with mixologist creating delish cocktail drinks. Entrees presented well. We were really impressed and told Kima the manager to have the owner open a location in Orange County to find out that the owners intend is to expand. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable when we asked questions about the menu. Shelby was not only an amazing bartender but also a good host providing excellent service. I appreciate Kima the manager giving us an excellent experience to dine in for the 1st time through their PR person.
When I found this restaurant it seemed too good to be true. But you know what, it was just too good. Of course atmosphere and staff was awesome but the food is what sealed the deal. From our Mango margaritas to our donuts this place was phenomenal. I had the most beautiful plate of scallops I've ever eaten. The posole was excellent with broth so good I didn't even care about the short ribs in it. And the stacked enchiladas with the hatch Chile Verde sauce is for true spice lords. I normally don't like most Mexican restaurants. I feel they're over priced for what you get and stick to taco stands instead. This place changed my opinion, I'd go to more Mexican restaurants if they were all like this. I highly recommend this place if you're in Long Beach.
Love this restaurant! The braised short rib dinner is life. Free ceviche with Yelp check-in. Happy Hour on Wednesdays from 3pm-10pm. They have margarita pitchers available in different flavors like mango, guava, strawberry, and hibiscus. Parking is limited at the restaurant but available in the local neighborhood streets.
This place is really cool, trendy and friendly. The customer service is top notch and the food is to die for. We started off with the Ceviche, which was fresh and flavorful. My friend ordered a chicken salad that was good and healthy. Me on the other hand, ordered the stacked short rib enchiladas with the Christmas salsa (mixed red and green). The enchiladas were exquisite, full of flavor, and spicy but not too spicy. I accompanied my dish with a mango margarita. The perfect combo. Definitely a cool place to bring your date, friends for happy hour (bar area) or a dinner out with the family.
Duck carnitas were pretty good for a small plate. The soggy tortillas as the bed/side for the duck leg was …. A choice. Was so hungry we ate all of it but was arguably not great. Stacked enchiladas are actually super tiny for $20! Short rib was good protein choice tho. Added an egg, at least it came out perfectly over medium, still some runny yolk. For $3 for one egg at least it was executed well lol. Boyfriend got the burrata pork. For being the first name of the dish, the burrata portion was so small!! Like I was trying a bite and I felt bad taking any away because there was so little. Otherwise a fairly large portioned dish. Drinks were good, had the watermelon basil margarita, basil could’ve come thru a bit more. Ordered a mojito and that was great. Good service. Probably would only come back for the happy hour.
Charred queso Oaxaca with short ribs, and the New Mexican Pizza & the Nicholas Sage. The corn bread was amazing, hot, delicious and so buttery. The Charred queso with short ribs was good, definitely more filling than I expected. However, the new Mexican Pizza was not for me. It was very oily & heavy, I don't know how to describe it but I only had 1 piece and couldn't finish it (which is rare, I don't have issues with greasy food). The Nicholas sage was delicious! It tasted very much like bourbon but it was good, had a hard kick (I usually don't have bourbon). Out waiter was awesome, friendly and helpful. It's slightly pricey and there's a small parking lot or street parking. Plenty of seating inside , at the bar or also outside.
Went for NYE, food and drinks were amazing. Vibe was chill but a little lively. No pressure. Service was god until we wrapped up, but then it was the holiday so it's cool. They charge for water though. House chips are also not free which is a bummer but get the borracho beans if you're gonna pay anyway!
Great selection of tequila and other liquors. Menu is okay too. Has happy hour 3-7 pm everyday and all day on Wednesdays. Minus one star for having 6 employees at 3:30 PM and 1 girl tending the bar. I waited 8 mins before being offered a drink and another 10 minutes before my order for food was taken. At least the food came out fast
Food was pretty outstanding. The pancakes are on the top of the list! So is the burrata burrito with pork. The only reason why I didn't give it 5 Stars was because the wait staff was a little weird. When we asked what she would recommend she seemed hurried. When we saw dish that we like to go by, we asked her and she said I don't know. I get it we all have rough days. I think from that point on I just disengaged. I saw this place on the thrillist and it's on there because of its food. But the wait staff was a little disappointing. I might have preferred to be ignored rather than to be dismissed. But I would definitely go for the food.
Unfortunately had a really poor experience at Panxa and can’t recommend going. We visited on a Saturday evening and although it was busy, only half of the tables were full. We proceeded to wait 45 minutes for our drinks and I had to flag down a waiter so that we could order food. Our server never returned after we ordered our drinks, she flitted around the dining room but avoided our table. The GM finally had to come and take our order.. which then came an hour and 40 minutes AFTER we were seated. They didn’t refill our waters and the best they offered was a shared “free dessert” for 5 people to apologize for wasting our entire evening sitting there waiting for food. Our waitress didn’t even try to apologize after our food was delivered. She stopped by a few more times and gladly collected our checks. We spent $350 for dinner for 5 including two overpriced margarita pitchers that were mostly ice. I don’t know what’s going on with their wait staff but they need better training or management. I was so disappointed in the service and general neglect of our table. Other tables were seated and out the door before we were.
