Absolutely love the vibe this restaurant gives! Beautifully decorated, plenty of seating and tables are not closely crowded together. Seated quickly, waitress was friendly, prompt to take our order and our glasses were always full. Our favorite item on the menu was the sweet potato fries! Also highly recommend the nacho appetizer. Enough food to be split with a few friends!

Gorgeous place, the servers very nice and the food came out fast. I got the brisket quesadilla and was fantastic, with burnt ends, ufff, delicious. Prices were very decent too.For dessert the brownie 🤤

Great meal! Stopped in after the card show. WOW was it great! Got the meat sampler and will be coming back!

We were honestly a bit surprised - it was really tasty, solid food. You never know when you're basically in a hotel parking lot next to a convention center!!! The green pork chili was fantastic- honestly, better than a lot that I've had in Denver (the land of awesome green chilis!). The tortillas with it tasted homemade and authentic, (not like smashed white bread). The brisket (in a quesadilla) was also quite good. Dining area is pretty industrial and open. Nice big bar in the center. Great service.

First time here (they've been here almost 35 years but I'm not from Madison). Had the BBQ pork sandwich with a side of slaw and an IPA on tap. Everything was great, the service was good and the atmosphere is perfect. Highly recommend.

The experience here is lovely. They have a fireplace and American themes in the menu. I got a fire trail drink and you could taste the smoky flavors to the whiskey. Matched it with Boston cod and chips. The fish was way more than I was expecting and delighted my palette. Great place to host event also, look for specials, and the place fills in fast.

Good atmosphere, delicious food. Burger was great, their house chips were delicious, and their fries were also good.

Excellent food and service 💕. Great atmosphere at this place. The bartender is awesome. Shrimp Po Boy, Smoked Chicken Wrap, Tavern Tots, Firecracker Shrimp. The food tasted awesome. The Tavern Tots was like hash browns really good. Had a old fashioned Brandy and Strawberry blond drink. That tastes like strawberry ice cream.

WOW! The brisket is amazing. We ordered the pound, and split it between 2 people. Still had leftovers. It comes with 2 sides of your choice. Add a couple of beers from their wide selection, and we were happy. I'm definitely going back to try more options.

Such a wonderful experience. The food was phenomenal and the staff was amazing. Very welcoming and had such knowledge about everything on their menu. Very fast service and expertise! It was a random stop on my way home and it was worth the detour!

We came here on a Thursday night before the Nate Bargatze show. Good thing we had a reservation cause this place was busy! It was our first time coming here and it did not disappoint! We started off with the loaded brisket fries. All I have to say is wow. These were SO good. For the meal itself, my husband and I split the sampler platter. We chose Mac and cheese and the baked beans for the sides. Those baked beans were so so good! They weren’t too sweet, they were perfect. But also different and had a unique twist. The Mac and cheese- delicious. For the platter itself, it was enough food for two people. The ribs were spectacular. It also came with brisket, pulled pork, corn bread muffin and cole slaw. Honestly the cornbread muffin wasn’t my favorite, but everything else was amazing. Overall, it was delicious. We will definitely be back! And I wish I remembered our servers name but she was delightful and so knowledgeable.

Note: contrary to other reviews, they no longer have fried chicken. I came in at 8, they close at 9. Asked for a table for 1, but they only offered the bar. I found that weird since the place was empty . I ended up sitting by the fireplace in the bar. It was unique. I had the French dip. Was excellent. Table server was excellent. Good meat. Interesting flavoring on fries. I'll definitely return.

I was very pleased with the food and service from here. I got the full rack of ribs and they were massive, but I would 100% recommend the brisket quesadilla.

Food was excellent. Huge portions. My daughter and I split a brisket sandwich and a grilled cheese and brisket. Tomato soup was thick. Fries were ok but spicy. Cole slaw very good and not soupy.

Stopped at Liberty Station for lunch as we were passing through the area. Decor was nice and the service was good. What impressed me most as a bourbon fan was their selection of high end bourbons available to sample. I ordered the brisket for lunch and it was very good! Mac and cheese has a little spice so if you don’t like heat I’d avoid it. Will stop again when I’m in the area!

Flipping delicious!! Very good service. Got food and drinks quickly. Smoked wings and the brisket fries were so good we barely had room for our entree's. Each of us had something different and everybody enjoyed it all. Definitely would go back if in the area.

This BBQ joint was top notch! They give you so much food for the price, and everything tasted exquisite! Our waiter was super nice and on top of his game, and there were so many places to choose from for sitting. Definitely recommended and Definitely coming back!

Such a cool location. Food, drinks, and service were amazing!! Party got the salmon, tavern burger, and Texas brisket for our entrees and the Brussel sprouts and cheese curds for apps. So tasty! Also HIGHLY recommend the Front Porch Sipper old fashioned. Great people, quick and friendly service. Traveling for football and will definitely eat here again when the opportunity arises!

Great first experience tonight! The patio seating tonight was a great vibe & the patio server took great care of us. It was busy due to Shania, so things were a little slower BUT everything came out hot and so good, definitely recommend the burnt ends quesadilla!

Excellent happy hour for cheap drinks and good apps. The green pork stew, BBQ Tacos were good but the highlight was the smoked wings. Crispy with perfect smoke flavor.

Everything was absolutely delicious! Our waiter was fun and funny, but didn’t hover unnecessarily. We were able to sit here long after we were done e eating to talk and catch up with each other. Everything and everywhere was super clean, including the bathroom. They were even cleaning the windows while we were there. I think this is the second time I’ve been here and both times were top-notch!!

In town on business. GREAT Happy Hour deals, plenty of TV's for the games. Good conversation with the bar staff. Decent food. If local I'd return again and again.

Stopped in for an early dinner. Food was awesome. Prices were about what I expected. We had cheese curds, each of the soups and smokey chicken wrap and the pulled chicken sandwich. 8 highly recommend the brisket chili.

Service and atmosphere are wonderful. The food itself depends on what you get. I would generally rank it as slightly above average. Certainly better than most, but I also have had better, so four stars on the food, five on everything else. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area for something.

J
Joe

The only reason I have 4 star for atmosphere is it get loud in there and its hard to hear people talking at your table. Otherwise this place has great food, great drinks, service is always friendly and fast.

Short hours today due to a snow storm, but web information was current. A very big plus. Food, drinks, and coffee were excellent. I enjoyed the brisket chili and roasted brussel sprouts. My wife, the shrimp, though a bit doughy tonight.

C

Atmosphere was cool. Nice decor and good beer selection. Staff was nice. Brussel sprouts were not hitting. They were pretty bland and did not taste any horse radish. Shrimp app was good. BBQ plate was ok. Good beans and mac n cheese.

Pictured left to right are the BBQ dusted house chips, Carolina Pork, Baked Beans plate. We had a group of 4 with one ♿ included. We made an advanced reservation as it was a Friday and I'm we did as it is popular on that day here. They placed us in a perfect spot too. We all different plates and we shared cheese curds which were delightful! I'm very specific about cheese and deep fried cheese curds so not my all time favs but still highly on my list with their tangy spicey flavor dipping sauce. Extra sauces available but I'm a fan of smoked foods too and this pork is an excellent representation of what Madison BBQ should be! I'd do a sample platter of all their smoked food if I thought I could eat it all in 1 sitting. That being said I very happy with the portion and every detail of the smooth flavors, tender texture and competition quality and plated visual too. These folks are doing everything right on a Friday service.

This is the second time coming here and the first time I got the chicken wrap and fries and it was delicious. This time I order the fish and chips and the fish was good and well cooked but the fries tasted freezer burnt and I didn’t want to eat the rest. If they served their regular fries with the fish it would’ve been worth it. But overall the atmosphere is cozy and the service was great, just wasn’t expecting frozen fries with my fish.

I'm visiting Madison for work this week, so I decided to take a walk for lunch and ended up here. The smoked chicken wrap was very flavorful, nice heat! The fries were served in a bucket and thinly cut with some sort of dry bbq dusting on them that was also delicious. EDIT: I came back for more. This time with some colleagues. We all shared appetizers and got our own entrees as well. Way too much food, but everything was delicious.

The food at Liberty Station is usually amazing. I always recommend the brisket, chili, and any of the desserts. Tonight's meal was not up to the normal standards that I have become used to at Liberty Station, the Brisket was very dry (almost like it was yesterday's Brisket warmed up) , and it was a quite disappointing. When I brought it up to the waiter, he dismissed it. The rest of the table enjoyed their meals and everything else looked great. My side of brussel sprouts was amazing. Took some time to get the bill, no adjustments, and no additional follow up on my meal. I had a good laugh, and we left with a full to go box. Liberty Station is normally a fantastic place to have dinner with amazing staff, but tonight was a miss.

We went for restaurant week. The cheese curds tasted good, and the potato balls were delicious too. The fried cod was pretty good. It was a huge serving as well. The French fries were good. The chips have a weird aftertaste. Brisket was good too. S'mores tart was too sweet. Fried cornbread tasted good.

Go for the brisket, stay for the cocktails! A very nice option in this part of town and conveniently right off the beltline. Portions are very generous so order carefully or go hungry. Nice professional service.

An honest 4-star review. The food has always been fantastic. The service is usually phenomenal. The atmosphere is very loud though, especially in the room to the left as you enter. One other table in that room can make or break the experience. The food is always served remarkably fast. The drinks have always been fantastic, from margarita to beer. I highly recommend the brisket fries, as those could be a meal by themselves.

Food was pretty good and came out quickly. I enjoyed my pulled pork tacos. We really enjoyed the outdoor patio. Service wasn't terrible but left more to be desired. Overall, I would recommend.

We had the fish fry and the brisket chili it was really good! This is kind of a funny story, but we were actually told that this place wasn’t that good and we still wanted to give it a try. And we are very glad that we did. The service is really good and the food was excellent!

Awesome food with a great drink list. Brisket hit the spot and I even used the bbq sauce which I normally don't, but it was so good. Mac and cheese had a nice jalapeños flavor to it. Chive better went well with the cornbread. Drinks were a little expensive, but not outrageous. Menu is just big enough to have enough options for everyone to find something to enjoy. Can't wait to go back!

Food was delicious though a bit spendy, and indoor atmosphere was loud/echo-y but cozy; we requested to sit on the patio outside, but it was understandably full on such a nice evening. The staff was really on the ball with providing water pitchers and cleaning tables off quickly--kudos to them! My dining partner and I shared a smoked prime rib dip (which was the star--loved the slight horseradish bite to it) and a brisket sandwich (also good but a bit too salty). For our sides we had fries which had a zesty seasoning that tasted slightly of bbq sauce (very yummy) and an order of the tavern tots, which was an upcharge but worth it. Our beers were cold, and they had a wide variety of selections. I'd give it another whirl at some point soon!

Good brisket. Love their barbecue sauce. Best to have a reservation. It would be nice to have some vegetarian options. I do realize it is a smokehouse😊. Recently we had a vegetarian in our group. Probably would not choose this place again for them.

A slow, snowy Tuesday night and service was attentive and expedient! The fries and cheese curds were phenomenal- my French dip was disappointing... Maybe 2 oz of tough meat on a very sad/stale bread and not enough au jus to compensate. A shmear of horseradish and not quite melted sharp cheddar did little to honor the mouth watering description but hey, it was a Tuesday and I used to own a place and it's not fair to review after one meal, I'd definitely go back! My only other gripe is the acoustics in the room we were in- one other table was seated and three men talking at a volume that made it difficult to hear my companions.

Food was very good, beer was cold. Portion size was very good. Service was excellent! Quality utensils and cloth napkins. I would go back

Fun place. Service was a bit slow. Tempura shrimp (tacos or bowl) were a bit too oily for us. Other food options were really good. Good drinks

G

Had a group of 8. Got seated right away. The Atmosphere was really nice, plenty of parking and a good beer selection. I got the wings and the Carolina pork sandwich. The wings were very rubbery and not very good. I love wings and eat them regularly but would not get these again. The Carolina pork sandwich was ahh so so. Doubt we go back here since we are here with the hockey team.

The food here was absolutely incredible, I've been here 3 times and every time I've gotten some form of smoked meat; it was exceptional every time!! However, be aware that the service leaves much to be desired. While the waiters are polite and do their best to be prompt, every time I've come here the Sunday brunch has been messed up, with portions of food being left out or substituted without our knowledge until it arrived, and overall lack of communication from the servers. If this would improve, this place would be an absolute hit with me! Gorgeous atmosphere, incredible food, just lackluster service I wish would be improved.

Beware of the drink prices!! I ordered a double tall Hendricks and tonic. It was easily and by far the most expensive drink I've ever ordered.....anywhere! $26!! In their defence, the bartender said it's 2 full drinks in 1 glass, so you pay for 2 full drinks. Ok, I can buy that. But even at that, $13 for a Hendricks and tonic seems steep. Hendricks is just a mid level gin (in my opinion). Sad part is, I didn't even drink half of the drink. It was burnt. Gin and tonic isn't a drink that's good with a strong pour. Flip side.....they definitely didn't cheat me on the pour. That said, the grilled salmon was very very good. I sat outside. The atmosphere was very nice. Service was kinda slow at first, but in their defence I arrived 20 minutes before the kitchen closed. I think the server just didn't notice me. After that he did fine. My conclusion. I'd absolutely eat there again. But I'd be more prepared with the drink prices!

We're new to the area and are always on the lookout for good restaurants. Liberty Station came up in some reviews so we decided to try them out for lunch. My wife had the brisket grilled cheese with tomato bisque soup and I had the pulled pork sandwich and fries. The hostess and our server were both very friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was definitely on the noisy side, but decor and seating were friendly. Unfortunately, the food was just "meh". My fries were luke warm at best and on the soggy side and they really were rather tasteless, even with the rub. The pulled pork was similar with the only real taste to the sandwich being from the cold slaw. My wife said that her soup was okay, but nothing special and that the sandwich was decent. She shared a bite of the brisket which was nice and tender and notably more tasty than the pulled pork. Prices were okay, with specials like the ribs and brisket demanding significant premiums. Bottom line, the food was nothing special at all. Given our experience with the basics, I'm glad that we didn't spend the extra for anything special.

It felt like they were trying to make each item better with some unique flavors, but it just didn't taste right in my opinion. Also 4.25 for soda is crazy

Good place for drinks i guess,bc the food was a no. BBQ pulled pork,no flavor,& food was cold,BBQ sauce tastes like cinnamon & vinegar, try it tho.

I had high hopes for Liberty Station, but unfortunately, our experience was anything but enjoyable. I ordered the Texas brisket and specifically asked for half lean and half fatty. What I received was literally just that—half the plate was dry lean brisket, and the other half was nothing but pure fat trimmings, not the flavorful brisket point that any BBQ spot worth its salt would know to serve. I politely let the server know, clarifying that by "fatty," I meant the point cut of the brisket. He took the plate back and returned with more lean brisket—just as dry as the first round. No flavor, no moisture, just a pile of disappointing meat. The rest of our $190 meal didn’t fare any better. The brisket grilled cheese was dry. The smoked prime rib dip? Also dry. Even the burger, ordered well done, came out so over-charred it tasted bitter and burnt. To make matters worse, our server stood over my shoulder at the end of the meal, clearly waiting to see how much of a tip I was going to leave. That kind of pressure and awkwardness is unacceptable, especially after such a lackluster experience. This was our first time trying Liberty Station, and unfortunately, it will be our last. There are far better BBQ and smokehouse options in town.
