Ordered 3 heroes with the works over the phone they told us 30 minutes. Got there paid and waited another 10 minutes for our sandwiches. Definitely worth the wait, the sandwiches are much better and bigger then most sandwiches places, give them a try.

I've been coming here since 1996 and will keep coming as long as they're open! Great sandwiches/subs and service! I get the chicken club consistently, but the Champ is another favorite. Pick up your meal and head to a park, beach, or back to work. Not much of a dine in place because there's usually a line wrapping around the place, but there are a few tables around.

I love this place, people there and the owner with the glasses is the nicest guy always accommodating, to his customers the food is so so good! No matter what sandwich you get trust me it’s going to be good! For some reason they have the magic touch lol I used to travel from Howard beach to him all the time (yes it’s that good till I moved to LI… Thank you again guys for making my liife so much better ❤️ Highly recommend !!

Heroes are amazing. But two weeks ago we ordered and got to say sandwiches were a little on the thin side for $12 and up u would think it would be thicker . But iv been coming here for years and had to give it a chance so this weekend we ordered again the same as last weekend. And are Heroes were amazing 👏 ❤️ guess it depends are who made it that day. Hopefully we will continue to get the best Heroes around 🙏. With prices rising you still want to get your money worth. More money does not mean less product

my family has gone here for years and just went again with new owners and STILL AWESOME!!!!!!!! Nothing has changed i hope it stays that way. They are always super busy but its worth it, just wish they would accept cards, cash only is a pain, not everyone carries cash I hope they change that. Also you can now park in Carvel which is a HUGE plus!!!!

My favorite deli when I'm in town. You haven't had a hero until you've had a my hero hero. They're bread is my favorite hero bread anywhere and everywhere! This place is a no frills place. They seem like a old hole in a wall place, but it's part of their charm. Their menu is small but big on quality. The chicken club is the best on the island, hands down! So simple but the best flavor, best quality on the best bread. Second favorite is the champ! And they make their heroes so that nothing ends up being soggy...well unless you get one with gravy...but that's expected. They are quick to get your orders out. It is a cash establishment. But they do have an atm. They have picnic tables outside and very limited seating inside. You can park in the back or on the street. And recently they got access for customers to park in the carvel parking lot!! That huge! If you've been a long time patron, like me, then you know what a years long battle that has been haha

From the day I moved 1/2 mile away from My Hero in 1974 on Jerusalem Avenue to the present day of 2019... My Hero has always had a extremely wonderful consistency in flavor of all the heroes with one of my favorites... " The Champ " with the Works of course...!!! Well now it's May of 2024 I've been eating at My Hero for over 50 years.... the consistency is the best, as the first time I had My Hero... My buddy Nick told me to try this place today . Me and wife went there, I walked in dressed as a dinosaur. I ordered a meatball hero and two chicken cutlet Heroes to try after eating the meatball hero it was incredible . We went back in and ordered two more meatball hero and a shrimp parmesan hero it was probably some of the best hot heroes I've ever eaten. there was only one problem it doesn't say on the menu that the shrimp is coconut shrimp and my wife is highly allergic to coconut. Thank God for epipens, but that will not stop us from going back there eating other food from there. I highly recommend everybody go there and try their food you will not be disappointed! it's phenomenal, the meatballs, the chicken and the sausage and peppers are incredible it's it's like a having a religious experience eating there. and the people that work there are super nice, super helpful. I am happy my friend sent me there and Yes I'm going to eat there every day if I can. PS the owner son is incredible nicest guy, knowledgeable about his products. Wow. Enjoy a delicious Italian hero or roast beef and get it with the works and you will not be disappointed. Try their thin cut chicken cutlet hero , it's breaded to perfection and always fresh and delicious. The line may look long but it goes quick and worth the wait. Great to even grab a hero or two before heading to the beach. Try it, you will be back.

It's a great place to go get a great sandwich. The place is nice and clean, the owners are very welcoming. I feel like all the people that give them bad reviews are jealous competitors.

I ordered from My Hero multiple times. Every time the food was great. I order through a delivery service and it is always packed great . The portion is big and it is exactly as described. I ask for certain changes and they always accommodate me. This is definitely the go to spot for great food. I hop to make it there in person.

I don't really know why you are wasting your time reading this review, you should be on your way to My Hero right now! The food prepared here is top notch. Everything they make is delicious and fresh. I'm a big fan of their bread too. I always have to get 2 hero's because the first one I eat on the drive home and I'm getting crumbs and seeds all over my car but I don't care because it's that good. I may have ruined a couple of shirts because my clothes know how well the food taste and they can't help but want to try some. Pro Tip: Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, proscuitto, balsamic glaze on the top of the bread and oil and vinegar on the bottom. Just don't blame me when you make a mess of yourself.

I stopped in on Sunday 2/2/25 I have not been there since 1987 . I got Ham , Swiss , Mayo lettuce, and tomato hero It was awesome ! Also got roast beef , American cheese , lettuce , tomato, and mayo . It, too, was awesome ! Two full-size heroes for $20 . And I will have the other halfs for lunch tomorrow. One of these sandwiches at Jersey's Mike's would be more than $18. I'm very impressed with the taste and quality . WELL DONE ! Came here tonight for the first time in a while with my dad. Have been coming here my whole life , walked here from as young as I could remember and I’m happy to say that the new ownership has maintained the same quality food and environment. Place was packed when we got there but they have it down to a science. Ordered right away and my sandwich came very quickly. Got the roasted port with broccoli rabbe and mozzarella. Absolutely delicious. Everyone talks about this place and I can see why. It’s old school when quality mattered.

They always do a good job here. They're quick and everything is fresh. Their large sammys are good for two meals. I can't finish it in one go like when I was younger. Yeah they've come up in price but I doubt they're more than a buck above the abominations of presliced garbage at a chain shop.

Great portions. Fantastic food. Owners are extremely friendly. A new must try is the "Disco Chicken" sandwich. Coming out tomorrow, there were samples to try. All I can say is WOW! Fried chicken with waffle fries, melted mozzarella cheese, and topped with brown gravy. This tasted amazing. It is a must try. Trust me.

I’ve been coming to My Hero Deli for years and was a huge fan of the previous owners, Dominic and Anthony. They created something really special, and I’m happy to say the new owners, Chris and his partner, have totally kept that spirit alive. They’re super hands-on and really care about the place. The food is just as amazing as ever actually, maybe even better. Everything is super fresh, the sandwiches are massive, and the prices are still really fair. The staff is great too, especially seeing familiar faces from back in the day who still know exactly how to make everything the way we all remember. The place has had a nice update, and the new kitchen setup is awesome. I think the old owners would definitely be proud of the improvements. Also love that they’re open seven days a week now no more showing up on a Monday and being disappointed. This place has always been a favorite, and I’m so glad it’s in such good hands.

I've been wanting to try this place out for a very long time as former WWE star Matt Cardona/Zack Ryder has given them the nod of approval on social media over the years. Finally got the chance to stop by and without a doubt this place has the best sandwiches I've ever had. Will definitely be back when in the area. The seeded bread was a hit as was the unbelievable honey turkey. Chicken cutlets were also top notch. Wow.

Had the fan favorite club sandwich with the works and WOW was it one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve eaten! Chicken was cooked perfectly and nice and think and all the toppings went well together and a great bread they use! I see they now carry semolina and I need to try a sandwich on that as well and I love the old school feel to the place great potato salad as well prices I feel are very fare Cash only and cash only places are some of the best! Can’t wait to try different sandwiches and I’m excited they will be open on Sundays soon so I could visit more!!

I've been going here for over a decade and a half. I love the food and prices but the service and ease of acquiring the food leaves much to be desired. I feel like especially in 2021 they could easily make ordering and getting food a lot better than what it is. If I could, I'd give it 3.5 stars because of that but dang those sandwiches are too good to give it just a 3.

We just picked up a few sandwiches after a year's absence.... Did the bread change? The bread was more akin to what you get at subway, soft mushy and a bit under baked, not the crusty delight that I remembered. I can't figure out, did it change, or did we? Still, we all felt it was kind of ordinary, not bad, but not special as we recalled. Lost a star. Old review ........... Old style delis have disappeared in the onslaught of Subway. Fortunately, this one survives and even thrives. A real local "joint" run by warm and friendly people. The food is great, the staff is great and the place is 70's LI forever! Real bread with good texture, not that super soft "fresh baked" substitute. The $7.50 (average price) sub is a way better value than any $5 footlong. My biggest regret? I've lived in Merrick for over 15 years and it took me that long to "discover" My Hero. Though I had head of it before, it took the enthusiastic recommendation of an All Island cab driver taking us home from LaGuardia Airport to get us to go there. Thank You!!!

I know the new owners keep saying the bread is the same, and it very well might be, but the size of a large hero is definitely much smaller than it used to be . The new owners keep insisting it’s the same size, but anybody who’s been going there for many years, all say the hero is smaller. There’s no reason your loyal customers would all feel that way. This message is for the owner of My Hero. On 3/3/2026 at around 1:00 PM, I went into your store. A gentleman was there, and I told him I had a pickup for “C.” The whole exchange took less than a minute. """"""""He told me the total was $33"""""""", so I gave him $40 and got $7 back.After returning to my car, I spoke with my wife. She told me she had ordered two small sandwiches over the phone, priced at $11 each. I went back inside to confirm the size of the sandwiches I had just picked up, and the gentleman said they were small—$11 each. I explained that I had paid $40, and he immediately said “Oh, right,” and gave me another $10 back.I’d like to ask about the remaining $1. Since two small sandwiches at $11 each total $22, it seems there might be $1 unaccounted for. Was that for tax? I just want to make sure everything adds up correctly.

Chicken parm hero is gooood. One of my favorite parms. Strange, the chicken club always has less meat than the chicken parm. I've gotten the chicken club twice too. I'd go for chicken parm and skip the club. Cutlet itself does not have much flavor.

This place is a classic. My favorite is the chicken supreme which consists of Chicken cutlet, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers and the works. But any chicken cutlet sandwich from this place is great. Idk why other places dont do this but these guys pound the chicken nice and thin and fry it so well. The chicken cutlet is very juicy and flavorful. The hero rolls from this place need to be toasted otherwise you are wasting your time. What can I say they make a great sandwich. The only problem with this place is that people behind the counter don't really seem like they want to speak with you. They just want you to spit out your order asap so you can get out of their face. Or that the vibe I get anyway. It's kind of annoying. Other than that this place makes a good product so I would recommend it.

The quality has dropped significantly recently in terms of sandwiches and the prices have skyrocketed - paid damn near $80 for 5 sandwiches w barely any meat or character! Not a good trade off! A previous review said it best, Seems like overconfidence has gotten the best of here recently, listen guys you have been hometown HEROES, My Hero has been a Bellmore staple for DECADES but it’s starting to slip up, it takes work to get to the top of the game and STAY there I’ll be back in a couple of months to see if they’ve returned to their 10/10 quality sandwiches and prices, really hoping for a great comeback story here

The customer service was excellent!!! I ordered a chicken parm hero, and a chicken Supreme. The Supreme was very good. The chicken parm didn't taste like it was done very rubbery. I couldn't eat the Parm. Money down the drain. I'm happy with my Breast Cancer T-Shirt.

Used to go here often. Food was always great and sandwiches large. Just went back, yes they've raised prices a bit but with crazy inflation, i expected that and it's okay. Sandwiches still pretty good but wow! They are so skinny now. A large is maybe 30% smaller than it used to be. And it wasn't a fluke since I ordered 6 larges.

Something has changed. Mac salad is different and the hero’s are not the same. Mayo isn’t the same either. Shame that the original style is not carried over with new ownership. It was briefly. I’m sure cost savings for new owners is a factor. Lost its special taste. Large hero’s are like torpedo size wrapped tight. It used to be a challenge for them to wrap the sandwiches in past the way the bread was made. Sad day for a 15yr plus customer.

After hearing how great this place is I was disappointed after finally getting there. Ordered the all American w/ mayo. Why the would put oil and vinegar and mayo on the same sandwich is beside me. Roast beef in the sandwich was totally lacking any flavor. Also I don’t want to hear about how iceberg lettuce is $76 a case when a gentleman asked for a side of mustard and you were charging him $1 for it. 1 and done.

I was one of 3 people in the line and my order was quickly taken. However, my want time to finally get my order was 30 min for 2 small chicken clubs. What I noticed was a lot of talking behind the line. The other thing I noticed was the focus was on orders coming from the phone and the automatic system they have set up. I fell that the in person placing of orders was not as important as the phone orders. Also if less talking behind the line was taking place by the person making my order I would have been in and out within 10 min not 30 min. They should be more attentive to the people who walk in.

Review has been updated. I have been a customer of My Hero for at least 15 years. During that timeframe I have ordered many heroes, plus their hot and cold catering. It has always been great quality and plentiful. About 2 weeks ago I ordered my favorite hero, a large chicken parm. I would honestly say that around 40% of the chicken that I used to get was missing. The hero was rolled up tight in paper like a wrap, also very little cheese. The sandwich that i used to get would not fit in the new skinny bags they are using. I asked for a side of sauce and was charged One Dollar, that was insulting to me and seemed like an inconvenienc!e to the store. I am updating this review to answer the owner. My complaint and the reason for the poor review is not about you charging for the sauce. FYI, every pizza store that I know will give a free side of sauce when you purchase any type of roll or calzone. Even if you purchase an order of 6 garlic knots the sauce is free. I guess buying a $14.00 hero does not qualify. The reason for the poor review is very simple, the hero has 30 to 40% less chicken. You have made a lot of statements about quality, which I did not question. Why won't you answer why there is a lot less chicken in the hero.

There's a reason they have so many bad reviews since the new ownership took over. And instead of the owners asking what they can do better, they have snarky responses to all the bad reviews. I think most people still go there because of the history and trying to hold onto what once was. The food has clearly taken a hit, as well as the customer service. It's very hard to pinpoint why it's not as good, but the sandwiches lack flavor as do the side salads like the cole slaw and mac. Maybe it's old ingredients or maybe it's the way they are prepared. Either way, everyone in Bellmore knows it has gotten worse. Maybe the owners will finally look in the mirror and change their ways but we're not holding our breath. Again, look at their responses to people on here that dare give a bad review, it shows their true colors.

Moved away, came back in for my favorite sandwich I have been getting for 15 years. Found easier parking (finally), and other updates in the Deli which was nice. Sadly the quality isn't what I came back for. You can taste and tell that corners have been cut with the food, and that makes it no different than every other Deli around that comes and goes in 3-5 years. How depressing, oh well.

first time back here in about two years Ordered Chicken Supreme with grilled chicken with the works Presentation looks great after taking my first bite of the sandwich, it was OK. The only thing that stood out that I did not like. the roasted peppers are extremely sweet almost as if they were in sugar syrup. It’s not a good combination with the sandwich. I ate about a quarter of the sandwich and could not finish because of how sweet it was.

Not what it was. I have yet to enjoy a chicken sandwich ever since the new ownership. But hey service still moves at a snails pace just like the old owners

Never thought the day would come where I would be leaving a negative review for My Hero but, sadly it is not the same anymore. They changed their bread to a low quality almost hoagie like roll which ruins the hero in it’s entirety and the works is not the same. I got a sandwich with no oil and vinegar in the works, no oregano, nothing. The bread and the works are what make the sandwich. I grew up with My Hero and raved about it forever but sadly I will not be going back again. So disappointing and kind of a disgrace to the original owners who made My Hero what it was. Nothing special here. You are served by a woman, who clearly does not want to be there. You wait forever for your order. People that ordered after you, are getting their food and leaving. When I asked about my order, God forbid. I got a nasty look, only to find out that they overlooked it. Sorry loyal people of Bellmore, you have other options. Jersey Mike's, Salpino's even Super Hero's. Super Hero by the way, very happy to serve you. This place, not so much, and what they have is very mediocre.

At one point in time this was the gold standard for the top quality and fairly priced hero bar none. The portion sizes have completely diminished and the staff is so condescending now. I called in an order and was YELLED at that there is no pickup line (as there had ALWAYS been) and now everyone must wait in one enormously long line. What is the point of even calling in to order? It’s an extremely sad state of affairs, particularly over the last several months I have noticed a STEEP decline and I’m almost positive they aren’t making the chicken and tuna salads fresh as the last couple times I ordered those it was extremely underwhelming. Really upset what has happened here and after the rude guy at the counter I will never be back and will tell everyone i encounter about the once great civilization of sandwiches known as My Hero!

I ordered a sandwich for delivery and was extremely disappointed. I was recommended this place by a coworker but they didn’t know the owners changed so the quality of the food was terrible. I got a chicken parm sandwich and the chicken was so dry and it didn’t have enough sauce on the sandwich. I’d recommend spending your money elsewhere cause the sandwiches aren’t cheap.

Wanted to give the new ownership a shot since the old my hero was the greatest sandwich of all time. The only thing that sucks worse than their new sandwiches is the owner himself. Terrible service terrible food. Their new bread and chicken cutlets are horrendous i dont know who told this guy they were good but i wouldnt serve that to my dog. Stay far away from this place. Its a shame this guy had to come in and ruin the best sandwhich spot ever.

My Hero. A Champ no more. This was a staple in my family growing up for over 30 years. I moved and came back in the area. This was the first time I've eaten there food since the new ownership. It was extremely disappointing. This is the first time in 25 years I had stale bread. The cole slaw used to be something that was in my last meal on death row. Its putrid. I've seen the snarky comments by the owner and it just adds to the sadness that this place once was. Terrible customer service. Terrible food. Clearly cost cutting where they can. Unfortunately while I've told people my whole life to go here it WAS the best deli on long island. I will no longer tell anyone to go. Stay away. If you've never been go ahead and try. If you're someone who's been there before, don't go back. So sad.

I have to say I have ordered from this place before and my heroes were delicious this past Sunday I ordered an Italian American hero. It was covered in what appeared to be a homemade dressing with very little meat. I was so disappointed it was falling apart. I also ordered a chicken cutlet with fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers. The chicken cutlets were hard, but at least that one was a little better than the other one I was so disappointed in the salads they sent a potato salad with eggs not what I asked for. Overall, I have never experienced this with My Hero. Unfortunately this will be the last time that I order from them. I was truly disappointedin my order. The quantity of meat was off, and it was falling apart. I was honestly embarrassed.

I know you think that people are working for someone or something but I have been coming here for many years and the new owners are definitely not keeping up with the quality of the sandwich. It has way less meat less flavor bread seems different but maybe it’s just because it’s all bread and little meat. There’s definitely 💯 less meat. i used to love this place and it’s less than average today. hero’s are to much money as well which i would be ok with if you didn’t get so stingy with the meat. sorry guys. maybe it’s time to make some changes. just being honest.

This used to be my absolute favorite place to eat. They did every meal insanely well and had the best heroes on Long Island bar none. Over the last few months I’ve noticed a steep decline in not only the quality of food, but the customer service is downright rude and unwelcoming. In turn the prices have increased for inferior product and service. Save yourself the aggravation and head over to Salpinos instead. Better food, nicer people and competitive pricing definitely will save you a few bucks for a far better experience.

Definitely a shadow of it’s former self. Ever since the new owners took over the food is inconsistent- at best. Much smaller / lighter sandwiches. Go down the block to stop and shop and they can make a better sandwich…… or the bodega on newbridge. Sad. This place was good at one time.

Employees refused to serve us when we walked in at 9:53 and they didn't open for 7 minutes. Why turn away any customer because of just a few minutes? Just seems like bad business.

My go to is Large Roast beef melt with melted mozzarella on a garlic bread hero with extra meat and extra garlic I promise you that you won't be disappointed by this or any other sandwiches in this joint!, New update July 22, After ordering lg. Champ(Italian sub) with extra meat now $13+$2em, and getting home to find not only no extra meat that I was charged for their was no procuittini, now I was not only disappointed with this order for the increases in prices, but previous order lg. roast beef melt not only didn't have extra meat$15 like I ordered it also was as dry as death valley and the only thing making palatable was the butter in the garlic bread! Done, after 18 years of going here, will buy my own cold cuts and make my own sandwiches, see ya❗️❗️❗️

hates me to do this but the change in ownership shows. been going to My Hero for 20+ years been super friendly with the old owner Anthony (great guy). Been multiple times with new owners and every time it was a miss. The hero bread is not good, they basically squeeze the sandwich down to a round circle. Chicken cutlets are chewy, you some bites you have to rip hard. chicken club no tomatoes extra mayo, every time its wrong and given to me with tomatoes and tiny bit of mayo. with 8 guys behind the counter making sandwiches its not that hard to notice how the customer wants their food. i wish them the best but i will not be returning anymore. $10 for a subpar chicken club.

very rude people! the staff has a very bad attitude and they were extremely rude when i asked for my order. i couldn’t believe it. Not family friendly at all and i will never be going back there. very very terrible experience for me!

Well I used to come here 2/3 times a week and now no more besides it’s over priced and always getting my orders wrong WE HAD A Catastrophic experience with my wife and our sandwiches yesterday for us and the kids. Never in my life have I seen a bug that big walking on the deli meat! We had to be polite and then leave and go to rvc for lunch! Never will be back again as a regular super dissapointed with the way things have gone these past months . Many praise this place , I thought it was OK at first kind of like a step up from a subway or Quiznos - But now it’s off my list and friends and families also, do not recommend, never know how Old the food is your eating or what’s crawled on it

This place is sexist. I ordered 1 Sandwich and waited 30 minutes. Every man who came in after me, with some ordering multiple sandwiches at a time, left with their sandwiches in hand well before me. This place is a disgrace. They really need to figure out their ordering system and prioritize orders that are placed first. I will not be back to this boys club.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED I’ve been using My Hero Deli to cater my parties for over 20 years, and up until recently, they were the go-to place for great heroes and friendly, accommodating service. Sadly, since the new ownership took over, the experience has gone completely downhill. The staff is now rude and dismissive. One of the biggest issues? Without them mentioning that they don‘t provide basic condiments like mayonnaise or oil and vinegar on the side unless you request it, they apparently just throw on whatever they decide without giving the customer a choice. I also ordered a fresh vegetable hero with simple specific ingredients: lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, onions, and banana pepper rings. When I called to confirm the details, the man I spoke to was unnecessarily rude and said, “You don’t need to confirm,” and when I politely emphasized that the vegetables should be fresh and not cooked, he snapped, “We don’t cook our vegetables.” Needles to say the hero came with cooked peppers, no cucumbers, brown lettuce and charged me $25.00 a foot. The attitude was completely uncalled for especially if I’m spending over $350.00. After two decades of loyalty. I will never order from My Hero again, and I’ll make sure my family and friends know how much the service and quality have declined. Very disappointing!

***EDITING*** to include a pic after the owners insane response lol here is the TINY size - smaller than a can of seltzer which I’ve also included as a reference. Yes, my friends and I used to be able to order a small and half of it would be more than enough for one sitting. And yes, I post pics in my reviews when it’s great AND when it’s bad. So what?! Why are you lurking in my reviews now? 🤣 What an INSANE response. Do better. How unprofessional. Not sure when you guys started using different bread, but that used to be the best part of the sandwich. It’s so different now and a fraction of the size. The small I got today was a little bigger than a hot dog bun. It used to be enough to have half for lunch and the other half for dinner. Disappointed. Place has definitely changed
