I would consider this to be a “Hole In the Wall” “Diamond in the Rough” place. The food is delicious! I want to know what the tartar sauce is made up of. Very unique!

Food was crazy amazing and fresh. Food was not prepared in old grease like some places will give you. Food was delicious too and cooked all the way through.

My first time at this place and wasn't disappointed by the least. Got the #28 and red beans & rice. 2 fillets with 6 shrimp with there 2 house made tartar, Outstanding! If you like catfish baskets and in the area give this a try. I'll definitely be back.

The food was AMAZING it was made to order I over ordered on the catfish fillets assuming this restaurant was like every other where the fillets are cut in half and is deemed as two boy was I wrong. The kool-aid was a bit too sweet to my liking but adding a little water to the cup aint' never hurt nobody. The bacon cheese burgers are really big and juicy and the cakeeee I got the banana pecan slice and it was so moist and flavorful I will be back

I actually saw another guide's post so I decided to check this place out based on that review. And OMG! What a wonderful experience! The food was awesome! The service was great! And I loved the clean and professional atmosphere that manages to capture the "coming home" feel as well. I've tried the catfish nuggets, the whole catfish and the pork chop sandwich. Everything was wonderful including the fries, coleslaw and beans and rice, also they make a very unique tartar sauce that comes in either regular or spicy both are good just depends on what your taste buds are calling for. The prices are good comparatively and the portions are generous. This place is absolutely wonderful! Can't wait to take visiting friends and family there.

Man when I tell you this chicken wing basket was on point!!! Someone from my job chose this place and I didn’t think it was going to be very good.. I thought the reviews were fake lol This is my very first time visiting and OMG! The food was hot and fresh and seasoned to the T! Keep in mind the quantity of food because you get your moneys worth! I had a 6 wing basket and fish nugget basket( so much food I couldn’t eat it lol) and I will definitely be back to try different things on the menu!

I can not stop wanting to eat here. The fish is absolutely the bomb and worth the drive. Had pork chop sandwich so good! Kool aid pickles all of the delicious. I have one request/advice, if you open one in Richardson/Plano you Will triple what you make here. The filets were fullsize not cut in half and charge full price like most of these restaurants are doing. You gotta go!

Sunday Morning Cafe has quickly become my go-to spot in Mesquite! Lately, every visit has been a hit—especially the fish baskets, which are always fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The customer service is friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. Even when there’s a bit of a wait, it’s always worth it. Hands down, my favorite restaurant in Mesquite!

The customer service was as amazing as the food. I found this gem searching for fried catfish but that all went out the window when we walked in and saw the 2nd Sunday menu. It has a very nice set up inside and the sweet potatoes were perfect! We’ll definitely stop by again when we’re in town.

Great Sunday Dinner I've been to this location several several times for the last couple of years. I can honestly say it was the best place I've ever eaten catfish. When I went the other day I could tell that the fish was totally different. It was much much thicker chunks the style of the fish was not the same! Had the fish with sides of fried okra, it was just right, not over cooked, I like my fish crunchy so it was very good. Very quiet spot to relax at and have conversations. I only speak for my experience when I was there at Sunday Morning. To each own experiences, but for me it was peaceful.

Me and my family went here on a Friday night and had a blast. We did karaoke, had some drinks, took a few shots and ate some good food. The guy doing the karaoke is amazing and not to mention the staff. Everyone always has good energy.

I had a turkey wing dinner with mixed greens and dressing..It was delicious! The turkey was tender and flavourful and the dressing was moist and good.. Yesterday 9/17/2020 was my first time eating here. My order was hot and fresh. Well seasoned, and the tarter sauce was delicious. Wait time was minimum. Down side is I felt like they could have given me more fries.

I'm new to the Texas and the Mesquite area. I was taken back that you can only get soul food on Sundays which is a bummer. I have lived in Boston, Atl, Miss, Tennessee and now here and i never experienced such a thing lol. Sunday Morning Catfish is a good spot I dp enjoy the soul food Sundays They have a list for the month of what will ne served on a regular day you can get anything from fried fish and chicken to gizzards and link sandwiches. The customer service has always been good especially from the lady on Sunday one Sunday it was supposed to snow and they were about to closes bt she still took out order and gave us something extra. It was very very nice of her. I would recommend trying them!

The food was pretty decent the service was horrible. The young lady at the front who took my order was really rude. Not to mention I had to go back to the counter for my missing peppers in my basket (which is no biggie). However, the Young lady made air quotes talking to cook indirectly insinuated I was lying about hot peppers missing. 🤦🏾‍♀️ Then Mike the cook tells me if I want extra peppers it’s $.50 lol mind you I’m telling them they’re missing and I can bring my box to show. I ordered kool aide she handed me my cup I asked for the straw which is literally right by the kool aide & she pointed. Lol so apparently straws were asking for too much as well. So I had to walk around the counter just to grab the straws. It makes you nervous asking for basic service because you’re made to feel like you’re doing too much. And mind you I dined in. Not a good look.

Trying to eat more local and tried this place. Got whole cat and 2 filets. They were good. Fresh. Tarter sauces were Unique and we liked both. Red beans and rice were basic. Original Review: Cons: 1st visit my catfish nuggets were over fried, french fries soggy and not seasoned. Bread soggy from pickle and jalapeno juice. The employee asked me several times how I was paying and confused on what I ordered then left the lid open on my food. Pros: 2nd visit complementary order: African American small business owned. Large quantity, catfish nuggets are cooked fresh and not over cooked this time.The owner Chris was very sweet, personable and went over and beyond to satisfy me and put a smile on my face. She put my pickles and jalapenos in a separate container along with my bread.The tarter sauce is unique and they provide complementary Non GMO ketchup.

The food is quality, fresh, seasoned, large portions and Outstanding Sunday dinners. I frequently visit this restaurant and they are consistent with the taste of their food. If there is wait, because they cook your food to order. NO old food is served ONLY FRESH! Try for yourself, you will be satisfied.

Of course this place used to be known as Howard’s... I’m assuming it’s under the same management but different name. Overall lunch special is off the charts, 6.99 for catfish and fries. You can’t beat that!! I know back in the day they use to literally give you catfish nuggets but this time it was Basa catfish nuggets, which was fine because I hate the black stuff on catfish nuggets. OMG this food was so good to me. We went on this past Sunday. My family and I will most definitely be back. That Banana Pudding tho! 😋 Kool -Aid pickles! I had the Watermelon 🍉. It is worth every bite as you can see in the photos below. Nice family place to eat at when you get out of church or to chill with good vibes. After driving by this place for years, Hubby and I dropped by for lunch to finally try it. It's in an older building which doesn't do much for the eyes, but they maintain a clean facility. I actually thought they were closed. It is a family owned business, he states they've been serving the community for 5 yrs. We both ordered the 2 filet fish basket, which comes with (fries, toast, pickles & jalapenos)and a small Kool aid. The Kool aid came with a warning ⚠️😂 Becareful because it's sweet. We decided to try our luck with the Kool aid, so we ordered the small to be on the safe side. The gentleman who took our order was very welcoming and helpful. He said they drop the orders as they go, so our meal will only take a few minutes and they make their own tartar sauce (regular/spicy). The dining area is open, so we decided to dine in and he brought our food out to us when it was ready. OMG 😳 both hubby and I were pleasantly surprised by how well seasoned everything was, the portion size, and it was straight outta the fryer hot. ⚠️🔥 The Kool aid was sweet/amazing (tropical & blue raspberry). It was a time machine to my childhood that made me want more. Dang I should have got the large 😁 Everything was delicious 😋 I'm glad we finally stopped by and we will definitely be back to try more and for their Sunday menu, which according to the gentleman is always different. What once seems to be an old Dairy Queen location ,I passed and wondered this for many years. My cousin,mother,and I visited this place and gave it a try. They renovated the former Dairy Queen site but if you're familiar with Dairy Queen's typical Floorplan of the past 40 years,there's room for more improvements! The floor was uneven so watch your step if you're handicapped like me. I like soda but I didn't like that there was no fountain drinks machine, just a broken vending machine...... The catfish nuggets were good and I'm glad I didn't experience any digestive issues later on!

Crazy busy I mean crazy so wait was a little long you know it's family run when Howard himself is taking orders working the drive through checking on orders etc I was exhausted just watching him run around.. I have mixed emotions about this place. Ive done take out here a few times and its a hit or miss. But first i will start with the customer service.. when the older ladies are at the window they are very nice and welcoming. But the last 2 times i went they had a girl at the window (i assume she is a teenager) she was VERY rude. Couldn't put her phone down to take my order correctly. As i was telling her what i wanted she kept getting an attitude with me because she didnt know the numbers on the menu. When ordering the FILLETS you have to be specific because they have Catfish & Tilapia. i dont eat Tilapia. She still got my order wrong. Now with the food.. the fried food is delicious and the shrimp comes with their homemade tartar sauce that i LOVE! BUT the burgers are TRASH.... The patty was HUGE like a Mondo burger and bland as ever. The place has alot of potential tho. Oh and call ahead or you will be waiting a hour to get your food.

To place an order on the phone service is rude do not give a wait time or cost of your food. I had to call back and to get to get estimate time to be ready customer service is still at a low zero. Second time going and still customer service is still low zero. Food tasted good but I think I will make this my last time eating there.

Fish was ok, however the problem was the service. Person behind the counter seems she did not want to be there. I had to asked for plastic ware, napkins. Although it wasn't her fault that my order was wrong. But the service was bad enough we won't be back.

Fish was fried to perfection and fresh. The wings were very salty. I spent $78. It took over an hour to get the food. I called in my order and still had to wait for my food. I stood at the register for 5 minutes and was not acknowledged by an employee. There were 5 visible employees behind the counter and I had to stop one of them to get acknowledged. It was very disorganized. With better organization and customer service skills this restaurant can definitely thrive .

This was my first time here and I would consider revisiting if I don’t have to encounter the lady who took my order. Her demeanor and energy was unpleasant. I ordered the catfish and shrimp basket but it didn’t taste like catfish. I’m not sure that it was. I eat enough of it to know. Catfish has a certain texture and taste. I did like that it was made to order and hot. I also like the pool table and DJ was great.

Seems like they don’t know how to be anything but rude..it’s a shame because their food is pretty good. However, every time I go there the lady (I assume the owner) is already in a bad mood and very short with me..However, I believe that is partially due to me and my wife not matching. I usually overlook the attitude, but today I rang the bell 3 times at the drive up window and sat there 13 minutes without an acknowledgment. Several people looked at me and kept walking by without even a finger up to say 1 minute. I try not to write negative reviews, but today got under my skin.

I believe my experience with this restaurant would have been much better if the attitude of great customer service and going the extra mile for your customers if necessary was there, but it's not. Customer service needs improvement.

I ordered a 4 piece catfish basket last Saturday and that was not catfish. The fish was terrible and felt like rubber, more like swai or talapia. Customer service was great but fish and spicy tarter was horrible.

The wings and catfish nuggets are good but the personality of these people and the owner is poor, no customer service skills at all. I ordered catfish nuggets and when I got home the fish was really thin & it wasn’t even catfish it was Swai fish. I called about it they said to bring it back and I got a burger instead my burger was good but they didn’t give me the same fries I had at first there was no seasoning on the fries & they fried them hard. When I tried to tell the older lady thank you I didn’t even get the chance because she slammed the door and walked off. So 1/10 I’ll never be returning here again I don’t know what happen to the good fish they had & good customer service.

I guess for the location it’s ok. But my expectations were higher than what was given. The wait time even with you staring right at the food was very long. And then when you get it, it’s not fresh. In fact my food was cold and dry. I ordered a kool aid and it tasted more like that syrup for a snow cone it was so sweet. The salt on my greens had me seeing double. I brought it home to amp up all of those canned greens, and sweet potatoes and tried to make it work. My suggestion to this restaurant is to actually taste what you serve.

Ordered catfish nuggets and asked for my fries extra crispy. My fries were soggy. Also they gave me 2 sliced peppers for the whole basket. I called them to ask about it and the lady was rude. When I walked inside of the establishment it reminded me of a warehouse. Don’t expect your food to be done how you asked and don’t expect enough peppers for 12 nuggets. Don’t expect to eat inside either. It’s not a vibe.

First let me start by saying. The food was wonderful. My issue is this this place is they MAKE no mistakes. I ordered two fish dinners with fries. I got one tartar for two fish dinner with a side of fries. I asked for regular tartar sauce and a spicy for each dinner. I asked if correct before I left. Also, I ordered a side of hush puppies and okra. I did not get the additional side of okra as they replaced it with my side of fries. Even though I questioned my order they assured me it was double checked and accurate. The staff here seem to have an attitude. Fish is not good if you get home and find out you are missing something and have to go back.. Again, the food was great, but I was overcharged and the extras were NOT included in my order. Check your order. Staff is very rude and have an attitude if you question them. CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE. Love the food just hate the staff!!!!

Waited over an hour for my meal. I had ordered a fish nugget salad and never even received it. I had to drive back up there because for 1) they didn’t answer their phone and 2) they gave me a wrong order. When it was all said and done, I was more irritated than hungry!!! My family has ordered food from this establishment several times. Today I called in an order the individual who answered the phone was very rude (I should have then decided not to place an order). Once I arrived for my food the individual rushed my food out the window and when I asked if she could ensure everything was correct she rudely stated yes and closed the window. WhenI arrived home I noticed the order was incorrect. I called to justify the the matter and again was met with unprofessional attitudes. The lady then gave the phone to the manager who after being told the issue was more worried about getting her food back instead of correcting the issue. She stated that she was one of the owners and could do nothing besides refund $13 for one of the meals although 3 meals were messed up totalling 39.00. I will not be going to this establishment again ans not because of the money wasted but bedside of how the situation was handled.

My family places orders at Sunday Morning frequently. We love the food and service. Unfortunately, tonight was not a regular visit. I placed an order this evening and was told to come pick it up in 15 minutes. I arrived and was told that I did not place an order and that they were closed. Also, I was told that I could not have placed an order because the phone was shut off at the time I ordered. Not possible. I spoke to someone and had my order confirmed over the phone. Just call back, apologize, and tell me that unfortunately my order is cancelled instead of having drive to the location and lie about my placing an order.

I truly hate to write this review about a black owned business but they should let their customers know what they are paying for. This place is VERY misleading. They sale swai which a cheap China catfish. However they still price it like it's traditional catfish. Close to $17 for a 3 piece basket which should sell for more like $10 to $12. Buyer beware!! Swai vs. Catfish (Google search) While both are considered catfish, "swai" is a specific type of catfish from Southeast Asia, typically with a milder, cleaner taste and a softer texture compared to the more commonly known North American catfish, which can have a stronger "fishy" flavor and a slightly firmer texture; essentially, swai is often seen as a milder, less "muddy" option, and is usually cheaper than traditional catfish due to its farming practices.

I should have known to just walk back out the door once I seen the inside of the establishment as well as the young lady behind the counter wearing her sleeping bonnet while taking orders. Ordered four catfish meals, the fish was soggy and tasteless, some of my fries were still hard, as In not cooked all the way! Ordered an order of hush puppies which they charge 3 dollars for 5, ended up with 3 guess someone figured we didn’t need the 5 we paid for! My first and definitely the last time I would frequent this establishment. To say I’m disappointed in an understatement.

When I called back she was still rude and did not apologize. I really try to support my local black businesses, but this is why it’s difficult for us to stay in business. I was very disappointed with the service and food. I do not recommend eating and supporting this business. I’m a business owner in Mesquite Texas myself for the last 20 yrs., and this is unacceptable. I hope the owners find this review and let the young lady know it’s not right to treat customers that way, after all one customer pays one hour of her pay. So disheartening to see another business go down.

07/10/25 I ordered 2 piece catfish filets with shrimp. Wow was I disappointed. First I waited at the drive thru window for 4 minutes until she came to take my order. Then waited another 9 minutes to get my food. The food was horrible. Yes I mean horrible. This was supposed to be catfish. It was not real catfish. They are advertising catfish and it should be real catfish. I’m about to sue this restaurant for false advertising for sure. The worst part of this is I paid $25 dollars for that BS. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HORRIBLE RESTAURANT. THE OWN SHOULD BE CLOSED DOWN. I will never eat here again.

Went through the drive through tonight the wait was long the shrimp were disgusting didn’t even taste like shrimp super tough The fried pickles were soo greasy they leaked through the bag on to my seat A LOT it was just horrible for $33

I went here to order a link basket and got some Oscar Myers. Then the owner or the cook tried to tell me she only buy Earl Campbell links. I will let you all be the judge from the picture I'm about to post. Lol ridiculous

I just left this establishment. I order the catfish basket, and a side of fried pickles. The fish was not catfish. The fries and fried pickles tasted like old old grease. The bag was literally drenched in grease. The only good thing was the lady that took our order was sweet as pie.

I have always recommended Sunday Morning for great catfish, but after my recent experience, I will no longer do so. I called on a Saturday afternoon to place an order, but the young lady who answered the phone rudely cut me off before I could finish asking a question and hung up. I called back, reintroduced myself, and asked my question, only to receive a dismissive "yes" and "ok, 20 minutes." When I arrived to pick up my order within the stated time frame, the same young lady slid the window open, said "name," gave me the total, handed me the food, and shut the window—all with a condescending tone and no courtesy. The entire interaction, from the phone call to the pickup, was unprofessional and lacked the warm, welcoming vibe this place once had. Sunday Morning needs to improve its customer service, and until they do, I won’t be returning or recommending them to anyone.

Got a bacon cheeseburger like I always do. This time the meal is horrible looking. Forgot to put my lettuce, tomato and mayo on my sandwich. The burger also have no taste. I don't know if they changed but this burger is also dry. On top of that I got two top buns for my cheeseburger. I'm so disappointed waste of my money this time.

The food is normally good but I made the mistake by ordering around closing time. I've ordered wings from here multiple of times and they were always good except tonight. Never had wings so huge and soggy 🤮.

Called to get information before placing an order, the phone connection was horrible on their end and I could barely hear the young man. When he had to repeat himself when I stated that I couldn’t hear him, he became rude. That was enough for me to take my business elsewhere. Just reminded me why I’ve not ever stopped to eat there although I workout next door on a daily basis! I do not recommend! If you are rude over the phone, I can only imagine how you are in person!

Subject: Concern Regarding Recent Visit Dear Owner, My son, my grandchildren, and I visited your establishment on Sunday, 11/9/25, at 3:30 PM. My son ordered the smothered pork chops, and I ordered the fried pork chops with cabbage and black-eyed peas. Unfortunately, my meal was unacceptable—the pork chops appeared to have been fried in old grease, as they were extremely dark, almost black. I make an effort to support Black-owned businesses, but this experience was disappointing and unacceptable. Given the condition of my food, I will not be returning. I would like to start by saying the girl in the window was very nice(Hispanic lady) I ordered a pork chop basket and kool aid. I had to wait 30 minutes for it. The Koolaid was deplorable! Who is drinking that and can live to see another day. It is way too sweet. Taste like syrup. The food is so salty you can barely stand it. I wasted 20$ on food that wasn’t edible. I have tried this place on multiple occasions to see if it would get better and no. Everything doesn’t need a bottle of salt and a bag of sugar! I’m pretty sure the reviews are a bunch of people with high blood pressure, higher cholesterol, diabetes and a plethora of other health problems.

Very disappointed!!! I ordered the catfish nugget basket and the shrimp hoagie. 10 nuggets and they were overcooked and fried too hard. 3 shrimp in the sandwich, and dry!! No mayo, sauce or nothing??? Biting into veggies and bread only and the fries were alittle over seasoned. I wasted my money!! It's nothing like when it was Howard's!!!

Just left here after waiting 1hr and a half. That's okay but my food came out and it was the worst my chicken looks old tast old.....I've been here before and it was good. I guess today they were rushing people received there food way before us and we ordered before way before them, even people at the window received there food before us. So next time I'm ordering through the window if I go back. There's lots of other soul food place that's wonderful and they don't take this long with orders and the presentation of the food is much better,as u can see below my chicken......don't know what to make of it and I only tasted it not like before whats going on today???????? Maybe they didn't like me 😠 😠 😡 Psssss Please review your orders before serving trust me I used to work in food industry and I was taught presentation is everything!! But, I guess not today at Sunday Morning and I've recommend a lot of people here I'm just messed up in my head how can u serve this chicken this way ??????????
