I recently dined at KIMTAR and had an absolutely delightful experience! The highlight of my meal was the incredible tofu and orange chicken. The tofu was perfectly cooked, with a delightful crispy exterior and a tender, flavorful interior. The orange chicken was equally impressive, featuring a perfect balance of tangy, sweet, and savory flavors! The atmosphere at KIMTAR is welcoming and cozy, and the staff were attentive and friendly, ensuring a top-notch dining experience from start to finish. I highly recommend KIMTAR for anyone looking for delicious food and excellent service. Five stars!
If you want authentic Chinese food served the old school and honest way, Kim Tar is your place to go. The dishes are full of flavor you can't find in other establishments especially in LA (well you will but trust you'll pay LA prices for a 1/4 of the portion). Sometimes it's good to step away from all the culinary hype and food PR to enjoy the foundation of where today's new food movement started. The House Special Shrimp was the North Star of the meal. Crunchy, tangy, peppery, ... all of China's flavors packed into every bite. The best part of the meal besides the amazing flavors was observing all the staff members working. Each of the servers and assuming the rest of the BOH staff are around my parents age 55+. Felt good to know that they have a job they enjoy.
Came here for the House Special Lobster and Noodles, loved it..and I’m coming back to try more dishes. Also got the Pork - salt & pepper, really tasty and different from the others we’ve tried elsewhere. Definitely coming again but with more people because the servings are for family style.
Great food with a twist/fusion. Really good! The lady that sat us was very nice and she was not pushy or criticized us for ordering so much food. If anything, she was encouraging and justified the amount we ordered. Will come back again.
Fresh seafood, a great variety of dishes, very clean, and absolutely excellent. Huge portions A place where you will remember the flavors for long time! Merci beaucoup et à bientôt Kim Tar.
My experience here was a piece of heaven everything I ate was exceptionally cooked perfect The atmosphere is beautiful people were happy and nice the waitresses and waiters were excellent. One thing they need a bigger place a much bigger place for as good as this food is I give this place a 200,000% good place to go eat with your family or friends💙💙💙
Great service by Rita, she had good recommendations and very friendly. Plenty of parking, no wait for sitting on a Sunday, they have a daily food menu. We had the house special lobster, clams with red bean sauce,Shrimp and Mongolian beef.
Fast service, only waited less than 15 min to set up table for 7, attentive staff, owner himself clearing tables of scraps and empty plates and checked on our table often about every 15-20 min, that was nice of him. Very good food. Green beans garlic sautéed a must, French style beef, chicken fried rice also a must. Orange chicken a must try. Will be back to take pics and post.
Excellent food, efficient service. The French style beef was the most tender dish I've ever had, a pleasant surprise. Only negative was serve forgot one dish.
The food is delicious is worth it the atmosphere is so peaceful to eat there my first time and to many more to come will recommend to my people the orange chicken is so bomb bomb everything I try I love it it was worth it
This place has been around for as long as I can remember and is a staple in the 626. When folks think of good Asian food in Monterey Park, this place has got to be at the top of the list. My favorite dish is the house special fish filet. My wife and I get it pretty much every time we go. A must try! The hot and sour catfish soup is also really good and I would highly recommend that dish as well. All in all, everything I’ve had here has been solid. The restaurant was renovated recently so it feels nice inside and the service is good.
Love this place! The food is super fresh and flavorful, and the shrimp walnut is amazing—crispy, juicy shrimp with a perfect creamy sauce. Everything we’ve tried has been great, and it always comes out hot. The staff is friendly and quick, and they make you feel right at home. Definitely one of my favorite spots on Garvey.
Delicious food!! We had the Salt & Pepper Shrimp, Shaking Beef, Clams in Black Bean Sauce and Garlic Green Beans. Everything was fresh and flavorful and very high quality. So happy we found this restaurant. The service was excellent too. Our server Rita was really nice and attentive. She made us feel welcomed and at home. Can’t wait to go back and try the Lobster with Garlic Noodles!!
My Wife & I frequent this restaurant often. It's a really family friendly spot. The staff are PHENOMENAL. We know everyone by name. My favorite is my Bro'Ham Andrew. We love him. He takes great care of Us. Then there's Athena who We love as well, but You'll just have to go there and experience Kim Tar's great customer service Yourselves and tag me on who's Your favorite. Rita's really good at helping You pick out good dishes. She explains them really well. Now let's get to the food. This place has seafood with flavors that will tingle Your taste buds. I can assure You will come back for more. Each dish has it's own signature flavor. Our favorite is the, House Special Fish. But there's the Garlic Ginger Lobster is to die for. They bring the live Lobster table side for Your viewing pleasure and to ensure its big enough to Your liking. Then they create a masterpiece with their Kim Tar Signature Ginger Garlic Sauce. It's a delight. Too many to list. Kim Tar's menu is an adventure. All I can say is. "Count The Memories, Not The Calories!" Thank You Kim Tar Family. We Love You All. See You Soon!!!!!!
First time at Kim Tar and it was pretty damn good! Came with my fiancée and friends, and everyone loved it. The food came out fast, everything was hot, fresh, and super flavorful. We tried the french style beef, hot and sour soup, salt and pepper shrimp, green beans, and fried rice. All of it was on point and the portions were generous! Good portions for big parties. The staff were really nice, attentive and welcoming. Definitely coming back soon!
I travel a lot and so therefore, I filled it. This place is a blessing because it’s perfect for somebody who has been working all day. If you wanna try the lunch special be sure to get here before three parking is very plentiful. I was immediately greeted and seated, but if you want fresh seafood right out of the tank? You gotta come here see the crabs and lobster and everything is market price for that day. You can’t beat it but I wanted to try something more simple since I got here before three I had to do the lunch special and I did beef and American broccoli now that seems sacrilegious such a fantastic seafood restaurant but they served other foods. I just had to try. It was delicious. I received it under five minutes because the restaurant wasn’t very packed. The seating was wonderful but the entrée? With the rice was beautifully portioned and incredibly well matched for flavor. I ate it so fast. I almost ate the plate. I recommend coming here for dinner to try the full menu… You get a really good deal here.!!!
Excellent food! #8 House Special Noodle Soup - I ordered one with the thin egg noodles, it is served with sliced pork, shrimp, fish ball, fish cake, ground pork. Soup is light yet savory, has strong scent of garlic and shallots. Good lunch item. There are way more interesting stuff to order than this however if you are not specifically craving noodle soup. #120 French Style Beef with steam rice - this is a popular Vietnamese food offering in SoCal. Their rendition , though beef was very tender was not a version I will call the best I had. It was still quite an enjoyable dish. #123 House Special Pork Chop with rice - It has a slight sweetness to it. I think it is one you should order. #34 House Special Chicken Wings - that is a must order. Sweet savory chicken wings! #L15 - House Special Chicken is $13.50 for lunch with rice. The taste is very buttery. It quite good!! #L33 - Salt and Pepper prawn. That was very crispy and really good for $13.50.
First time trying it out. It was a great place for lunch. Food is delicious. Service is great. Parking my be an issue only because it's on a shared plaza with other businesses but worth checking out.
So good! The beef luc lac was definitely a stand out but everything was really yummy. We also got the steamed chicken, fried pig intenstines, and black bean ho fun noodles - would definitely get all those dishes again!
I saw this place on tays food tours on Instagram, and what he had made me want to come check them OUT!!!! the food and the service was OUTSTANDING......
Wow!! The best in 626!!! :) i really loved their shaken beef, fried rice, wings and green beans!!! so flavorful and did not miss we loved it so much
It was a great experience! They have an extensive menu. My favorite dishes were lobster noodles and Bo luc lac. It's the quintessential Chinese restaurant and brings me comfort and joy dining here. Service was on point, they were so nice and friendly. This was a nice change from your usual hole in the wall spot. Dishes were large and plentiful. Super clean and the bathrooms that were just remodeled were nice too!
Food and service were great. One thing ,They got my order wrong, instead of no shell shrimp they gave us with shell. They took the order out of our table and gave it to other table and said that it’s on the house. Just thinking that he could have just gave it us .
The food here is delicious! The beef plate with rice was delicious. The mango passion fruit drink was tasty. I appreciate the service here 🙏.
The house special lobster with noodles is AMAZING! I know there a few other places that serve this dish but Kim Tar is our favorite. The lobster is cooked perfectly, moist and flavorful and so was the noodles. Their filet mignon was delicious as well. definitely our new favorite spot.
Kim tar change so much... last time I remember the food didn't tasted this good.. im glad that I finally came back here n try it out again, I think it a new owner that's why the food got way better
Hi Everyone, I'm thrilled to share my latest gastronomic adventure with you. This time, I ventured out to the Kim Tar restaurant, ready for something different. Let me begin by giving you the lay of the land. The venue is somewhat tiny, with decor that fits the 'okay' benchmark. Now, I'm not the type to nitpick, but fair warning about the male bathroom—it leaves a lot to be desired. I would've taken photos, but I wasn't in the mood to play detective at that moment. On the brighter side, if you're looking for good food, this place hits the spot. Despite the less-than-ideal customer service, the food was actually pretty good. If I had to rate it, I'd say it's a solid 7 out of 10. My personal standout was the combination fried rice and the lobster house special. These dishes, in particular, packed a punch and would, without a doubt, coax me back for more. Also, on the practical front, parking wasn't a nightmare as it often is in popular spots. In another plus, there's a mall just a five-minute drive from the restaurant. Perfect for those of you who enjoy indulging in a bit of retail therapy or simply walking off the meal after a hearty lunch or dinner! As far as second visits go, I'm still on the fence. That being said, if you enjoy trying out new places and don't mind a bit of rough around the edges, I'd recommend giving Kim Tar a shot. Who knows? You might find it delightful. Look forward to catching up soon for more foodie adventures!

Ok,saw LovelyMiMi tik tok or insta and it showed this place so I came here with hubby and 3 little girls under 8. We were dancing in our seats with the music and singing along so that was a plus. The service was great! All the servers are very attentive. The food was great my kids were licking their fingers. Will definitely be coming back to try more stuff. My girls lived the House special lobster and Honey walnut shrimp.

Excellent food. Good service. Nice atmosphere. Mongolian beef was fantastic. Their fruit drinks were great. Lobster soup was awesome. Beef noodles were a bit bland but everything else more than made up for that. Several tables got the fresh lobster, very popular.

I love this restaurant and strongly recommend it. It was just at the same plaza at my accountant's office which reports my tax every year. Once I go to that office, I will have lunch at this restaurant. That is once a year. This is a Vietnamese Chinese restaurant, mostly Chinese. I like the noodle soup there, so many things inside. Fresh pork kidney, roasted duck pieces, shrimp, fish ball, thin pork slices, grounded pork, and golden deep-fried garlic. The broth is umami and obviously isn't from MSG. The free sweet seaweed and green bean soup is also a very good expierence, I had never image the sweet seaweed before. Most clerks are senior and they don't speak English nor Mandarin, you have to point the menu to order. But doesn't matter, you still get good food and good service.
My stir-fried rice noodle with beef was done in less than 10 minutes while I was waiting outside after order was placed. The taste? Pretty good, I would not complain but would suggest to use a tad more of bean sprouts and a bit more beef at price charged. Overall, a good lunch to satisfy my stomach. Outdoor sitting is available, nowadays a norm for this type of business.
We were seated quickly. Service was quick. Our food came quickly and was delicious. The beef was flavorful and tender. The cow mein was the best I've ever had. The flavor of the Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce was perfectly balanced. The dragon fruit lemonade was refreshing. The only drawback was that the AC wasn't on. It was a very warm day and rushed instead of hanging out. We will definitely come back.
My coworker suggested this spot and it was a good choice for some delicious Chinese food. I just ordered their chow mein Hong Kong crispy noodles and walnut shrimp. Both were good and filled me up for lunch. A solid dining experience overall. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items. Love that it opens early too.
Is it the best Cantonese style Chinese food I’ve had in SGV? No. But is it decent and service is good so I’d go back if I was in there area? Yes. Food took a while to come out after ordering. Again, everything still tasted good, but there’s umami depth missing from the dishes. Like the lobster - cooked well, but the seasoning needed more umph. The fried rice - you definitely feel the egg savings and literally only had 2 shrimps, I did like the Chinese sausage addition though. Pea sprouts could’ve used more garlic. Beef chow fun was delicious. House special pork chops were just okay. Fried tofu was fried nicely, lightweight batter, but the soy sauce was lacking. We also got the salt & pepper shrimp but forgot to take a pic. They lacked the salt and pepper seasoning. Fried well, just literally the slightest hint of salt & pepper seasoning. Their lemon iced tea doesn’t have lemon flavor, just sweet tea flavors. Service was good! They speak English which helped us a lot when ordering. They handle things when asked. It’s a Chinese restaurant, so don’t expect to be checked on and asked if everything is okay. If you need something, just ask politely, and they’ll handle it. Parking - smaller busy free lot. Several other businesses in this plaza so it does get busy. We were all still able to find parking but I did see some people loop around a couple times. But it’s a free lot!
An established restaurant that opened in 1983, known for its reasonably priced lunch specials. Although the portion sizes are relatively small, the taste remains consistently good, offering great value for money.

Food is above mediocre... The beef was so salty After I took the first bite and can't taste out other dish flavors. Lobster was good. Service was great!
Foods were delicious.. but the service was so terrible.. the server never came to us asking how's everything or maybe refill our drinks.. even when we want to check out, they never come, or maybe since we have been seated right inside corner of other rooms.. than We finally had called them to close our check after waiting for 20min after we are all done..
Invited some friends to try it out. We were embarrassed. We order the food including soup as appetizer. 5mins later the soup bowls and spoons came out. That was it. 24mins later no soup no food. We asked the waiter to check on our order. They went to check but never came back. 6mins later ask another waiter. Again never came back. 5mins later one of our entree dish came out. We ask the server how come no soup? They finally informed us that half the kitchen is closed. It would have been nice of them to tell us that they were having kitchen issues. Instead the staff played dumb and had us continue to wait for food. 40mins later the dishes came out one by one. It was a bad experience and im sorry that the kitchen had issues but as a business, it is best to be truthful up front and let the customer decide if they would like to dine and give this place another chance. It has great reviews and im pretty sure this rating will not effect their business. But they no longer have ours.
The service for us was not good. We were a big party of 13 and the customer service was terrible. Waiting 10 minutes for 3 glasses of water when it was not busy. The food is ok, it's not that great. The soup was not good. I also experienced the servers making priority to others and serving them soup from the big soup bowl. We did not have that service. They handed us spoons for our soup bowls and they only checked in on our party once. A restaurant should make everyone welcome and we did not feel it here. We will never return here.
Food is mediocre at best. Only went because I saw a review on tiktok that raved about the food but was disappointed with the quality of the food. The French Style Beef and Mongolian beef were chewy and fatty. The shrimp with mayonnaise was nasty. The house special shrimp was over fried and oily. Orange chicken was all batter so I would call it Orange Batter. The only dishes that were decent were the Chinese Broccoli with oyster sauce and the String beans with garlic. Will not ever return to this place. I will continue to be loyal to Foo Chow in chinatown.
