Excellent ocean view (it’s right on the beach), good service and the food was pretty good too (perhaps not amazing). I’d give them 4.5 stars if it was possible. We walked on the beach after the dinner and it was great.

First time here. I was seated and the server Lynn brought complimentary sparking water and some really yummy complimentary seaweed chips. Husband and I had the leche de Tigre ceviche Was delicious! We had the flank steak with green salad and fries with puree. Our dish was delicious! The view is also awesome! The ambiance is very relaxing and cozy. I had a delicious drink. Would definitely come again.

Amazing dinner. Definitely pricey, but you are getting what you pay for!! Great service, FANTASTIC meals, an ocean view, and plenty of drink options. Our waiter brought us complimentary bread and a complimentary dessert (both tasted wonderful). The atmosphere was comfortable, and we went on a Sunday night so it was nice and peaceful. Would visit again for a special occasion!!

Had a lovely breakfast here with a beautiful view! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the atmosphere was so relaxing — perfect way to start the day. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the view made it all the more special. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a peaceful spot with good vibes and great food!

Had dinner + breakfast here on a recent overnight stay at the hotel and was pleasantly surprised! The staff were all super friendly + attentive, food was tasty (get the bread pudding for dessert if you've saved room!) but the views were definitely the star of the show. Would recommend.

Went for the first time after the remodel. Everything was exquisite - food, service, and atmosphere. Our server Dennis and his backwaiter, Devin were absolutely exceptional. Dennis truly made my birthday dinner special. Highly recommend!

We absolutely loved this restaurant. We love restaurants that let you make reservations. It makes planning for trips so nice. Our food was fantastic as was the nice wine list. Service was great. Beautiful view. We had a bit of a search to find the restaurant within the hotel but will definitely return and likely try to stay at this hotel

An amazing meal. It was perfect! A great meal at sunset with great service! Came up here by chance and ended up being the best meal yet on our trip! The food was cooked to perfection and tasted superb. Service was the best I'd seen in a long time, thanks Dennis and all. Beautiful location and view as the sun went down over Monterey peninsula. Highly recommend. Outstanding for a hotel restaurant.

It seems like a good environment for any quiet occasion. It is a modern place and they serve you very well, I am grateful to Denis for his attention. I really liked the views that this place offers. I will return soon.

I was alittle sceptical to try this restaurant based on the few reviews, but We were staying at the hotel & decided to give it a try .Beginning with the host that sat us to the water view /sunset view from every table & everything we ordered ,It was such a wonderful evening. The waiter was so friendly & always there to check that all was ok.We started with the Gnocchi which was absolutely delicious!!I wish I could have ordered it as an entree! For dinner we had the Black Cod & Crispy Berkshire Pork Loin both extremely good & also beautifully presented .We finished with the most delicious bread pudding I have ever had!It is alittel pricey but in this case I believe it is worth every penny. If you are in the area give this place a try!

I had a wonderful breakfast at The Lantern Room Restaurant this morning. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with plenty of natural light and a cozy, elegant design that made it a perfect spot to start the day. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure everything was just right. My breakfast was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor – you can really tell they use high-quality ingredients. The coffee was rich and smooth, and my meal was served promptly without feeling rushed. Overall, it was a lovely experience – great food, excellent service, and a relaxing ambiance. I’d definitely recommend The Lantern Room to anyone looking for a delicious breakfast in a charming setting!

Very friendly and attentive staff - shout out to Anna (!), made for a special meal for our group. Excellent drinks, good food, perfect views all made for a perfect meal at the end of our trip.

We were made to feel so welcome by everyone as we were celebrating our 30th anniversary! Service was impeccable! The food was good. I’m giving 4 stars because presentation was lovely but the sauce with the seaweed sourdough truly was TOO salty to be palatable. The bread, alone, was lovely. As others have stated, it was quite a pricey octopus tentacle. And $80 for the NY Strip is laughable. But it DID taste okay. We added fries and they were delicious as were the oysters!! Highly recommend both. Overall, not much as much flavor as we would’ve liked for a $200 meal.

Great location Stop by for a wholesome breakfast after a brisk walk on the beach. Just remember their definition of a macchiato is drenched in Carmel. Once I requested espresso with steamed milk it was promptly fixed.

6-2025 Enjoying the menu upgrades! Travelers can enjoy a variety of locally sourced, locally grown, farm-to-table type scrumptious food! This was our first time eating here since the hotel was bought out by Marriott. The food before was pretty good but now it's really good! As always our service was on-point and prompt. The view of the bay is always spectacular too. There's usually ample parking with easy access to elevators. I would recommend The Lantern Room to travelers who utilize wheelchairs or who have mobility issues.

Really enjoyed our dinner here. The view and ambience is great. Our server understood the menu and made great suggestions. The menu did feel a little small, or not much variety. But the food was great.

Food and our server Anna was amazing, beautiful view. Only complaint is rap music was blasting throughout the restaurant. Hardly the sunset ocean view dinner ambiance we were hoping for, definitely did not match the clientele at the restaurant either.

Food is pricey but so good! Server Carlos was very attentive and considerate of my requests. Great ambiance. Deducted one star for gin and tonic being a little weak.

Incredible views and good food. A little expensive but still a good overall experience. Had breakfast, lunch and dinner here and liked it all. Right on the beach! Service was good.

Was here for Valentines Day, it was so busy the service was lacking a bit and wait time was not good. They did accommodate us to a earlier time being from out of town, tks. Food was great, but the medium well steak was more like rare and had to send it back but they reset the whole dish, awesome, tks. Octopus was delish. Cocktails were good but were 3/4 full in a short glass for 20, that is definitely the biggest issue we had here. Sights and sounds were the best.

This restaurant should know that the Christmas dinner was advertised on Open Table at Service at $25 pp which I thought was low considering the Holiday. The bill amounted to over $415.00 for 3 courses and not worthy of that steep a price. It was disappointing that not once did anyone ask how our meals were or if we needed anything. We also had to seek out the server to get our leftovers so we could leave. Otherwise the chef did a good job with the salmon…The beet salad was delicious. The duck was a bit dry and lacked flavor and the prime rib was thin and tasted frozen. Dessert was average at best. I recommend the apple crisp. The Lantern martini 🍸 I do not recommend and would have ordered something different but no one checked. Disappointed in the quality of service and the food was inconsistent. Perhaps they should rethink being open for a major Holiday.

The restaurant is at the Monterey Beach Hotel, which has undergone extensive upgrades, and the aesthetic and atmosphere now complement the dramatic beachfront setting beautifully. The views from the restaurant are fantastic, and we appreciated the abundance of booth seating. However, we opted for a small window table for two to fully enjoy the stunning view up close. It was a quiet Monday night in January, and while the service was attentive, it lacked a sense of refinement. For our first course, we tried the octopus, which featured flavorful sauces and artichokes with just the right amount of heat. Unfortunately, the octopus itself was a bit chewy, and the portion was disappointingly small—just one tentacle, likely no more than 2 ounces. Splitting it was bittersweet; while we each got two small bites, the $28 price tag for such a tiny portion felt unreasonable. (2.5/5) For entrees, my wife ordered the Black Cod, and I chose the Pea Shoot Pasta with Calamari. The Black Cod, though flavorful, was another letdown in terms of portion size—barely 3 ounces. It left us feeling unsatisfied despite the excellent preparation. (3/5) The pasta dish, on the other hand, was the opposite in size—almost too large. While the flavors were robust, the delicate calamari was overpowered by the pesto-like sauce. (3.5/5) The dining room itself was lovely, though the music was a touch loud and upbeat, which distracted from the serene and beautiful view. At $147 before tip, including two glasses of wine, we felt the experience didn’t provide enough value to make a return visit anytime soon.

Read a review of the quality of food, kitchen and chef of this new restaurant after the remodel and decided to try it - since we are local neighbors and love the idea of having a great oceanfront dining experience five minutes from our house. Apart from being pricey, ($89 for a steak?) the food was indeed good. Drinks were ok, guess I expected a little more presentation. Everything else: when we came out of the elevator, there was nobody at the podium unusually situated across from the entrance in the hall. So we stepped inside, and then heard shouting from the hallway. A very officious and extremely condescending host who did not seem happy to see us, btw, would not discuss seating us until we had READ THE MENUS! Mind you, we did not walk in wearing beachwear. My husband asked him why? Did he not think we would like their menu? (We knew exactly what he was implying). It was one of the more bizarre starts to a dining experience ever and I’ve eaten in thousands of restaurants around the world. I asked him if he had a nice oceanfront table for us and he said he wasn’t sure. When we walked in (around 6pm) those tables were maybe 40% occupied! And never did fill up. He did not even know how to lead us to the table properly - wasn’t paying attention and pulled out a chair for me while I was passing behind so that I had to jump out of his way. Honestly, I have never experienced such an awkward and unfriendly seating ever. Then he dumped the aforementioned menus on our place settings. They should be handed to the diner! Come on! Table service was ok, but apart from our surly host seating us at a table that wasn’t also not set properly for two - I don’t love the idea of a server calling himself our “assistant” and taking on the task to put our napkins on our laps. After about seven decades on this earth, we can manage this ourselves. Also, not checking back to see if we needed anything else after food delivered and trying to snatch away our mussel broth while we were clearly still eating it (twice), are basics to do and not to do. At one point I heard a woman (server, manager?) casually but audibly mentioning some kind of issue of wine delivery to another employee - not a customer. It’s like they were unaware people were dining and shouldn’t be subjected to internal restaurant issues that should be discussed out of earshot. I also found the restaurant a bit dark quite gloomy once it got dark and you could no longer see the ocean. Maybe some table lighting? I also recommend tablecloths. But I think next time we will just enjoy the bar.

I’ll give them two stars because my husband At least thought his dish was ok . I had the pasta n clams and squid bucatini and it was literally butter and thick pasta (did not taste like quality grade ) and maybe a small squid chopped up with some tiny clams barely enough seafood. For the price of 36 dollars I would think this would be higher quality

Super expensive for ok food. My kids shrimp Mr.Noodle had more seafood than my $38 clam and squid bucatini - fancy for spaghetti in olive oil with chili flakes. At least it wasn’t cold.

I think the only good things about this restaurant were the view and the host. The host was very welcoming and attentive. The view of the ocean was gorgeous. The bathrooms are the perfect example of a failed design. The crevices in the stall doors are so big that you have no privacy. There are no trashcans in the individual stalls of the women’s bathroom. Also, no changing tables for babies. I ordered the hibiscus spritz. They were out, so then I ordered the passionfruit drink. The server came with a peach drink and said he hoped I’d like it. Never had a server decide for me before. The oysters had a lot to be desired and they weren’t cleaned well. I ordered the Monterey Bay cod. That entree was 70% tasteless rice, 20% bok choy and 10% fish. A very plain dinner, I was disappointed. Overall, I think you’re paying for the view, not the food. Save your money and appetite, and just go to the bar downstairs.

The PreFix menu makes absolutely no sense. Even if you are to pay for the most expensive things on the menu al a carte, it still ads to less than PreFix! In addition, on the pre fix menu it shows al a carte prices. If you wanna scam me and make money off of me for the PreFix menu at least dont show me the al a carte prices 😭😭😭 ofcourse we could have been smarter and added up the prices prior but I'm sure most people won't do that so BEWARE!! Food was ok the mains were lacking in flavor and pizzazz. The truffle risotto had truffle oil at best, but no truffle flavor. Desserts were a surprise and good, but appetizers were mediocre. Service was good but seemed busy and stressed not very welcoming. We only payed for 4 desserts even though we are party of 6 but the management still charged us for more than we ordered. Poor marketing and definitely price gouging, which is understandable cuz its a hotel, but common at least be decent and let us change our bill if you are showing the prices of each individual course that are included in the al a carte!!

Thanksgiving was dissappointing hoped for the best beautiful views got seated late waited forever to place our wine order service last night was so poor no table features just felt blah. its Thanksgiving!!!! big celebration food was good but the amount served was paltry for $90 per person one scallop cut in half for the app yikes! maybe it was a bad night for the house not sure you can’t fix what you dont know or are not aware of so Im here to remind you service is always the key when things are running late start with the wine asap put some snacks out

Nice view, good food, bad service. Had reservations for Monthers Day, server was on top of things at first then, he forgot all about us, almost put in the wrong order, once the food finally ame didnt see him again, had to ask another server for our check twice, we are local and have been here before, don't plan on coming back. BTW I tip good for good service, and tip poorly for poor service, I apologize to the rest of the staff, but my server deserved what I tipped.
