I had about 5 drinks in here whilst on a solo trip from abroad (2024). Bartenders were cool and they had a good selection. Top quality bar I’d do my best to become a regular if I lived nearby
Fun atmosphere not as “Dive” as I thought (from the name) it was actually kind of done up the ceiling and fixtures were really interesting perhaps restored not sure the history of the space but it was more Glam/Dive. I was there for a friend of friends fundraising drag bingo… We got our drinks easily (even though the place was packed to standingroom. staff was friendly.
If I could give this place a 10/10, I absolutely would. Second time here and staff is absolutely friendly. Big shout out to Lenny! Btw ppl plz, remember to tip your bartender properly. Anyways go DIVE 106!!!!
Best Bar in NYC so far. Nice Staff, good beer. I'm really looking forward to go there again.
Two daytime visits. Perfect dive bar atmosphere. The bartenders were very nice and knowledgeable, drink food recommendations were excellent. Their service was fast and friendly. The food here is fantastic bar food. The burgers are excellent. Fries and tots crispy and hot, perfectly seasoned. Grilled chicken sandwich was also delicious. I was very surprised at the quality of the fries and tots. This place is great and will become a staple for my wife and I. Thanks for the great establishment for us to visit!!! Update: still love this place!
Good bar with friendly waitstaff and a good selection of beers and rotating drafts. There is a rather large menu (especially for a bar) and the kitchen is open until 2am. I didn't order any of the food though (dinner plans elsewhere). Will return to try it and enjoy the happy hour specials.
Whether you are a professor, student or not, if you live anywhere near Columbia University, you really need to head over to Dive 106 (located on Amsterdam Ave. at 106th St.) for a great selection of beers on tap, cocktails, whiskeys and wholesome, fresh, and satisfying pub food. In my opinion, they have the best chili dog and wings around!! They also have a very nice Happy Hour and the bartenders are welcoming and cordial!! This is Not your typical dive bar, though. It is actually a beautiful space. The beautiful and decorative tin ceiling is the original ceiling from many many years ago. Rumor has it, the place has been a bar since 1949. The owners of the bar today, restored the ceiling back to its original splendor. And it really makes an impression! Don’t miss out!!
I want the world to know that this is the best matza ball soup you will ever try. My grandmother has been making this soup for me for over 25 years and her recipe is amazing but I have to say after trying this Mexican matza ball soup I was just in heaven. Also the staff is super friendly and the bar is very clean. Music isn’t crazy loud and over all it was a great experience. Thank you Dive 106
This place saved the day after our unpleasant experience literally across the street, and on my birthday celebration with friends. I normally would have looked up reviews of a place first before deciding but we really needed to just go somewhere else. Imagine our surprise when we were welcomed right away and attended to immediately, despite the place being busy. Thank you, Max! :) Upon settling in, we all agreed that we like the place, so out of curiosity, I looked up their reviews, and wow, 5-stars all the way! Living up to people's reviews it seems! Overall, we really loved the vibe of the place and the staff, it just makes you want to stay and enjoy the rest of the night. Fast forward to almost 4 hours later, you can imagine how many more round of drinks we've had, plus we enjoyed their nachos with grilled chicken and yummy fries! The music was great and as the rest of the evening went on, the place became even more packed! Service and staff didn't slow down and we were attended to from start to finish. You just earned 5 new/more customers and regulars, Dive106! We're definitely coming back! =)
I like the Dive bar mini chain - I think there's 3 on the upper west side. That said, it's a bit of confusing Manhattan situation. The place looks like a dive - very divy decor and you can wear anything but it's still Manhattan so the beers are $6-9 - is that a dive price? Well the atmosphere is definitely not pretentious like too many other places...
Ordered a rare burger that came overcooked. Had to ask the bartender for napkins. The first beer that arrived as ordered was an Allagash White. The second beer wasn't the same as the first beer. It could have been a Sam Adams? Who knows. It's a mystery, like the burger. Mystery meat. Amity Hall up the block has much better service with tastier food. Yes, it's a dive bar, but still.
Had been here for drinks and a quick bite. Not many options for cocktails so went for a frozen margarita which was good. We ordered fries which were nice and crispy. However we didn't quite like the chicken tenders in buffalo sauce. The chicken was not fresh, was dry and rubbery. This was recommended by the waitress so I was expecting something good but it wasn't worth one bite.
The cocktails are alcohol with water… but the beer is nice. Don’t take any cocktail. The don’t know about that.
The noise coming from this place is unacceptable. A handful of tables are set up outside in the street on Amsterdam and drunken customers scream their heads off, quite literally at the top of their lungs, until well past 1 AM on week nights. Other bars in the area have similar hours, some even with outdoor seating as well, yet do not contribute anywhere near the same level of noise. The staff and owners should do more to address this issue for the sake of those who live in the surrounding community.
Last week, we were celebrating my friend’s graduation in the area and decided to end the night at that bar, taking a few shots. When we left, my friend’s mom realized she didn’t have her phone. We looked for it at the bar we’d gone to earlier and at this one. The manager—or someone working there—asked if we had a way to track the phone, and we said no. When we asked them to let us know if they found it, they gave us a card and told us to call, but also said we should probably go back to the other bars because they didn’t think the phone was there. We went back to the apartment and luckily were able to activate the phone’s GPS. It showed that the phone was at Dive 106. The graduate’s mom had to go there with someone else to check if the phone was really there. It wasn’t until they showed the staff a screenshot of the phone’s location that the person in charge seemed embarrassed and started looking for it. I had triggered the phone alarm remotely from the computer as soon as we tracked it—and guess what? IT WAS IN THE KITCHEN. We could’ve reported the theft, but we didn’t because it was my friend’s graduation and we were trying not to let it ruin the night. We used to really like this bar—we always ended our nights out there—but now we’re incredibly disappointed.
Ordered a simple soup salad and mac n cheese. What I received was horrible. The soup was super oily and separated. There was no salad and the mac n cheese was just messy. Nothing about this order was appealing and speaking to the management was of no use. I don't know how they received 4.5stars. This was definitely a 1 service.
