They are open again!! Outstanding coffee, excellent service and friendly staff. They also have premixed flour for their vegan banana bread! If you're in the area definitely get your coffee from Gotham Coffee!!
Top 5 best specially coffees in NYC. Great service, coffee and location. No downsides. Prices are OK for NYC
This is legit the best coffee in the city. Confused how this place doesnt have the full 5 stars? Maybe bc of the croissants?
Heavenly drip coffee. I got a small black drip, and it was excellent: it had a deep chocolate base, perfect acidity and a burst of fruit. Don't ruin your coffee with milk and sugar if you're getting it from these folks!
Went in for an afternoon decaf … took a few minutes but worth it. The best, most flavorful decaf americano I’ve had
The coffee was incredible!! They don’t have any flavor syrups and I respect that because their coffee is so good it doesn’t need it.
Parched, the stranger stared blankly at the menu items. Then back to his mule outside drinking from the trough. Then back at the menu. How much for the pumpkin spice latte the stranger asked. We don’t have pumpkin spice lattes here, the barista answered. The stranger asked, well then where am I to find a pumpkin spice latte? The suns growing lower in the sky each day and the breeze from the north is picking up. We have mocha the barista answered. Surely you have vanilla then the stranger asked. The barista shook her head, a kind look on her face. Was the spice trade, colonialism, all those who suffered all for nothing? The stranger considered the mocha, he considered the death of his friend on the way to the coffee shop after catching dysentery in the flooded train system, he considered the storm, the rise and fall of empires, corrupt politicians, that no good sherif, and where the world was headed…. He nodded and thanked her. Much obliged.
I had the best time here! Such a great little place to relax and take in the atmosphere. The employees were very kind and helpful! I came back a few times during my stay! Until next time!
Love this place, amazing coffee and the most welcoming and friendly employees - everyone always has a smile on their face its so great and refreshing :) Always a treat to go there.
Best coffee I ever had. Very nice people, great service, best taste literally deserving more than five stars.⭐️
Delightful latte and able to accommodate when they didn’t have exactly what I normally drink. Barista thought on the fly to make me a great alternate solution. Will definitely be coming back!
I have become friends with the precious Amanda! Not just their coffee is a A+ Also their atmosphere is lovely. 👌🏼 I just wish they would open up earlier 🥴
Amy is the kindest as best barista. Very interesting, too. Plus, the coffee is probably my favorite in the city.
Great coffee and friendly staff. If you don't know what you want they will not let you down with suggestions. I recommend a virgin Irish coffee, it's on the secret menu.
Good coffee and choice of pour over beans with firendly and knowledgeable staff. They have a really nice Ethiopian espresso if your into that as well.
Honestly my favourite coffee place in New York.
Went in for an expresso and tonic water. It was late and they were out of tonic water so the barista gave me a card to redeem for a free coffee the next day. Pretty awesome, thanks!
I ordered an iced latte with almond milk. It was good, no complaints there. It’s a small place so there’s limiting seating inside. And the tables outside are on a slant. It’s a good place to grab a drink on the go.
I had to write this review, considering how awesome the folks are at Gotham Coffee Roasters. We actually received their variety pack as a gift from a friend of ours. Our friend didn't know, however, that as much as I love coffee and have consumed it for many years, I was forced to switch to decaf due to the negative effects caffeine started to have on me. As a result we had 3 bags of what looked to be incredible roasts, but sadly I could not partake in them. My wife (does not drink coffee just me) suggested that we give them a call and see if something could be worked out (we live out of state). Well, as soon as we called it was clear that Gotham Coffee Roasters is 100% focused on taking care of their customers. Speaking with Marcus and then Jagger, they worked out with Andrew to ship me their decaf replacements at no cost. There was no fuss, no hassle just complete consideration and kindness, looking to do whatever they could to make sure I was happy and could enjoy their coffee. I am so appreciative and truly thank Gotham Coffee Roasters for taking care of me - Thank you Andrew, Jagger and Marcus.
I came here just because of the weirdly funny creative previous review. Any coffee shop that inspires a story like that must be pretty good. Did not disappoint! The barista was really nice and the coffee was great! It’s also close to the Union sq farmers market which is a plus. I’ll def come back. :)
Perfect mocha with subtle notes of dark chocolate! Love the ambiance, a little small, but cozy.
Went by today cause a friend said they were good and I’m still newish to NY. Didn’t get catch the employees name but she was so friendly and knowledgeable. I was looking to buy some whole beans as well and she let my taste test my options which was so kind. Coffee was awesome as well, looking forward to heading back to try some more!
Came here after reading that people's experiences were very consistent. Those reviews did not lie. I watched the barista tare out the portafilters, weigh grounds, and consistently tamp both doubles I ordered. The shots were great and had good acidity (got a single origin Ethiopian). Will be back next time I'm in the neighborhood.
The coffee is excellent and the service was very friendly + quick. I did not try any of the food.
The best Iced Mocha I've ever had! Photos don't do justice, you just gotta go and try this place. I've come to the realization that junk coffee establishments will not survive in NYC because the competition is fierce.
This coffee shop is a hidden gem. This place is worth visiting if you need a cozy and comfy ambiance. The coffees and pasties here are of good quality at a very affordable price. It is a lovely place with a warm and welcoming staff around you that are ready to accommodate all your needs. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
Amazing service. They just gave me a free cafe for making a small mistake. I didn’t expected that at all. Very nice cafe crew. Thank you, it was pleasant experience.
I just order the regular, already made coffee and every time without fail it is delicious. Expertly made and full of rich and vibrant flavors. Ok every so often I do order the off-menu flat white and it is one of the best I have had in the city.
After multiple visits I’m pleased to report this is the best and most consistent specialty coffee I’ve found in NYC. Full marks and my thanks to the female staff member who was friendly & engaging. If you’re feeling particularly indulgent, ‘Dough’ doughnuts is diagonally opposite 😈
It's the only Cafe I buy coffee from. Many options in the area but income for a consistent delicious cup of coffee. Not to mention a staff that knows their customers and treats everyone with kindness.
Best coffee in NYC. I drink 5-6 cups a day. Good variety of beans. Goes well with a espresso martini. Or a book before a roaring fire. Thanks team. I miss Pat
Two rarities in NYC - pour over & vegan baked goods. Gotham Coffee Roasters has both! I originally sought out the pour over and was so happy to see vegan bread and cookie options amongst other non-vegan baked goods. Happy to be able to sit and enjoy at one of the handful of tables. I’ll definitely be back. Thank you, Gotham Coffee Roasters!!
Very fresh bakery and tasty coffee, their coffee beans are very high quality which is making their coffee very smooth and tasty.(their prices are very fair to the quality they are providing which is not common to see now days sadly) Will visit soon again! Btw , thanks for making my coffee quickly even it was 4 shots!
Finding good coffee in the city is one of my favorite things to do and after finding this place on Instagram I knew I had to check them out. The interior of the cafe is a bit small but has a very cozy atmosphere. The baristas were nice and not too busy. I asked for a pour over and was expecting a cup but was given a carafe which allowed me to enjoy the coffee more. The single origin Colombian coffee was delicious and very clear. Overall a great coffee roaster from New York. Colombia Pour Over served in a Hario carafe
Delicious coffee, and very kind team — highly recommend stopping by. Thank you! ☕️
I’ve come here several times after running errands in the neighborhood over the last two years. Sometimes I think cafes are good, but it’s actually just that one barista. I can confirm today that all the baristas are excellent, meaning this place has a legit coffee program. Not once have I received a burnt espresso, or the feeling I can make this better at home. A1 to this team!
Basic coffee shop. They've got a very standard menu espresso menu, but have no syrups or flavoring for their drinks other than simple syrup or honey. Still, the latte with simple syrup was very good and the place is a good spot to sit and read a book. Edit: Went back and tried their matcha. Good stuff!
Gotham’s known for having darker roasts than what’s trendy among the “third wave cafes”. Dark roasts often destroy the beans’ character. Here the pourover tasted clean and complex with notes of tobacco and herbs. My initial thought was “this would pair wonderfully with a cigarette” even though I quit smoking years back.
Hands down the best coffee in all of New York! Gotham Coffee Roasters is a must visit for all real coffee drinkers. You will not be disappointed! I order all of my coffee beans for home from their website. It gets delivered directly to my door freshly roasted and unlike anything else I can find. So when I’m visiting New York I have to stop by their cafe. The space is small but mighty. If there is a line, it never lasts long as the baristas move quickly. There are only a handful of tables, but I always seem to find a seat to enjoy my coffee. Gotham Coffee is know for their high quality coffee beans from all over the world, perfectly roasted, and you can taste the difference. They have beans from Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Ecuador. They have bags of whole beans available for purchase at the cafe as well. The staff are super knowledgeable and friendly as well. They also serve multiple milk alternatives which is nice. 5/5 stars, Gotham Coffee Roasters is true NYC coffee experience.
The service is good, the spot is clean and the cinnamon babka is AMAZING. My daughter and I came here because of the name (nananananananana Batman) and we’ll be back for another coffee date. Highly recommend. My daughter gave the chocolate croissant a 👌🏻and the cappuccino was “mid” My mocha was good, but I think if used a different milk it would have been better.
The perfect 4 shot iced latte is found here. The aftertaste of this coffee is the best. Come here only if you love coffee 💖 The service was quick and pleasant. The outdoor seating was nice to people watch and relax. We will be back 🙏🏼 (Only had coffee so can’t comment on the tasty looking pastries offered as we grabbed doughnuts across the street.)
GCR offers a small, clean space with friendly staff and solid menu offerings. From interesting single-origin roasts, to specialty drinks like "the snakebite," there are both reliable and delightful options for the palette. Bespoke coffee, indeed.
Pros: Great coffee. There is seating to hang and do some work. Nice staff. Cons: Space is not huge. A bit pricey.
Small place but really good coffee. I got a bag of Brooklyn Blend and it’s one of my favorite blend to date.
Solid iced coffee. Space is small, as expected, but cozy. It was filled with people at 825am and I was in and out in only a few minutes. Asked for cold brew after not seeing it on the printed menu, and the barista didn't bat an eye. Called it an iced coffee when placing the finished product on the counter for me to claim it. I drink my coffee black and this one has got a little coffee bite...borders on how I like my cold brew. The large thankfully comes in what I think may be a 20oz cup. Whatever it is, it's more product than most of the other shops in NYC offer as a large. Pricing is good when this is considered. $4.50 before tip. Competitive. I'll definitely stop in in the future to dabble in something else or just to grab another iced coffee. Bonus - some of their specialty menu items sound enticing - snake bite is espresso poured over dark chocolate. YUM.
Super friendly girl took and made my order. Small (cozy?) place. 4 small round tables; sits 8, 10 would be pushing max. 4 outlets and 4 USB plugs, though I'm not sure about wifi. The place is fairly new and still looks it. Been back a few times. Staff is always nice. Cold brew is good. Espresso drinks are good. Never fond of how much places charge for non dairy milks. Just fyi: it's 50 cents for Pacific soy or unsweetened Almond Breeze almond; $1 for Califia barista almond.
Coffee was great, without doubt. I appreciate their professions and offering different kinds of beans to make drinks. But same as some comments I found here, some staff were cool with their professionalism to talk to costumers. My ☕️🥛✨cappuccino was really creamy, balanced. Nothing to complain. Also my first time trying polenta cake which was an item they got from bakery outside. It was too dry for me so I won’t recommend.
I stumbled upon this incredible spot a few months ago and now I go as often as I can. They make a reliably strong, well-poured, and flavorful latte. The friendliness of employees can be hit or miss but today they were wonderful! The only cons: no bathroom and no wifi. I love you guys!
Good cappuccino. I wouldn't recommend getting pastries though, especially in warmer weather - there was an explosion of bugs when the barista picked up the pastry
I ordered cappuccino/oat milk. It was not special but not bad. Little bit strong. That’s good for morning. They has few tables and chairs inside and outside. You can stay relaxed but I think no wifi.
The service was great, however we were a bit disappointed with the end result. My partner cafe au lait was not really like a latte, and it was quite watery. I personally enjoyed my oat milk cafe, but it had a bitter after taste.
Vibe was very nice, latte art on point. Matcha was what was needed to keep us going, and they knocked it out of the park. Coffee was a little over-priced, but it's in the flatiron district so we get it.
Mocha tastes like watered down hot cocoa - worth a skip
It is not a friendly place to sit. The coffee quality is great but that's it. Pastries look great but cannot heat them, there is no toilet for clients.
After reading all the positive reviews I was surprised to encounter an unprofessional barista with attitude. Very average coffee. I assume positive reviews are on a different barista.
Very unfriendly barista unfortunately because drinks were good - xenophobic because a tourist was trying to order something and struggling with language
I went there to have an espresso after lunch and unfortunately the espresso was quite disappointing. It was very bitter and even sour. My guest's lips were puckering. I'm not sure that the baristas are tasting their product. I would recommend going to Pasta Eater a block away for a better shot of espresso instead (they're Italian).
No wifi no bathroom decent latte but overpriced for the area
Nice shop mid block but watch out they charged me for a large and game me a small. as I was sitting outside I heard someone else complain about the same thing $7.50 for a small later plus tip.
The As a reviewer in the top 10% of all coffee contributors on this platform, I rarely have to write a review of this nature, but the experience I had today was fundamentally unacceptable for a specialty roastery of this caliber. I visited Gotham Coffee Roasters on February 15th and placed an order between 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM. I was specifically looking forward to a Brazilian pour-over and requested it for "here." When I ordered, the barista explicitly told me it would be about a 10-minute wait. I told her that was "no problem" and sat down to catch up on emails. I then sat there for 30 minutes. It eventually became clear that the staff—two employees who seemed completely absent-minded—had simply never placed the order into the system. Despite being "in process" with other tasks, they completely forgot my existence. After waiting three times the estimated duration, I had to ask for a refund, which was processed on-site. For the owner/manager: You can easily track this incident in your POS system for Feb 15th between 1:00 PM – 1:30 PM; you will see the specific transaction and the subsequent refund. I value the craft of specialty coffee, and Gotham usually has a reputation for quality. However, as a high-level reviewer, I have to be honest: you have one job in a service environment, and failing to even input an order while a customer sits in plain sight for half an hour is a major breakdown in basic operations. I hope this serves as a necessary coaching moment for the team on shift.
I heard really good things and the coffee was the best, I got an ice latte, and it was one of the best I had in all of nyc, but my service was not great unfortunately, the cashier was lovely but the young lady who prepared my drink was kind of rude unnecessarily. The 2 customers before me she gave them their drink, smiled, told them to have a good day and when it was time for me to get mine, I asked her how her day was and was ignored, she put my drink down and didn’t say what it was, I had to ask her was that mine drink as it was other people in the store so I was unaware, I told her thank you and have a good day and was responded with a subtle hand wave.
I would avoid this place. In the half-hour that I was there I witnessed such chaos. After placing my order, I noticed there were two other customers waiting for their order. It appeared that they ordered the same drink, since the barista made the same drink twice, but the second customer corrected the barista, she ordered a decaf oat latte, but was almost poisoned with a regular milk latte. Next it was time for my order, but the barista and the cashier were so distracted by the mishap that they forgot about it. About the same time a group of people came and placed their order, when I saw them receive their orders, I knew they forgot about me. When I approached the barista, she didn't apologize, just cursed under her breath, luckily a few people from that group ordered an iced Americano as well, so they gave me one that they were making. The coffee was decent.
