I grew up in a cuban household with an amazing cook for a mom. The food here was as good as I've ever had. The vacation frita was insanely flavorful as was the ropa vieja. The sangria was delicious and my wife enjoyed the arroz con pollo which was also fantastic. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable and quick. Would absolutely recommend
The food was so delicious here my fiancés favorite cuisine of food is Cuban and he said this is one of the best Cuban places he has tried in NYC. We got this dish called Fritas Cubanas and omg we could’ve eaten like 20 of them so good. Octopus was very delicious sauce that came with it was perfect. My fiance fell in love with his Cuban sandwhich he ordered and I was obsessed with the “lechon asado” the pork was so tender and the rice was some of the best beans and rice I’ve had. Their coconut mojito was delicious I had to get 2. Interior design also beautiful inside.
My family and I went to Victor's Cafe for a pre-theater dinner and we were also celebrating my husband's birthday. Unfortunately we were 15 late to the restaurant due to a delay with our Uber and our reservation was no longer available when we arrived. However after speaking to Diego, a manager that truly worked magic and got us seated, served, and out the door by 7pm for our show! Cannot say enough nice things about the food, ambience, and service! Thank you Diego and team for a fantastic experience! We will definitely be back for more memorable experiences!
Went here for pre-theater dinner with not much of high expectations and we were blown away. Service, food quality and attention to detail were noticeably everywhere. I joked that our server was the owner in disguise since his name was also Victor and he wasn’t above and beyond with his service and recommendations as well. I’m Brazilian and you guys have the best flan I’ve ever had in my life! Also the fried cod fish was to died for! Thank you!
I always love to stop in at victors cafe when in NYC. Centrally located and close to Times Square. I love the menu, you can’t go wrong with anything. The vibe is also amazing in the restaurant. Nice music, polite staff, and beautiful decor. Make sure to do a reservation, they can get very busy. Perfect place for a celebration, I went for my recent birthday and received a card from my waiter, Gabriel. He was amazing and very kind.
We had Christmas dinner here and it was amazing. The service was very good and the food very tasty. The live music was nice too. We were a very large group (15 people) yet we all received our food simultaneously so we all are at the same time with no long wait. Very good customer service
We had an absolutely amazing dining experience at Victor's! Their summer special was what we needed to be able to try different dishes in manageable quantities.
Really good food!! Every dish was superbly delicious. We emptied them in no time. Loved the plantains. Waiters were quite friendly and energetic. Restroom was clean. Pricing was fine. Music of moderate volume. Decor was cute
The food and hospitality at Victor’s Cafe is unmatched! I went with friends to celebrate a birthday and I cannot rave enough. The staff is so incredibly nice, the food is phenomenal and their drinks were amazing. We had such an amazing start to my friend’s birthday as we went for brunch. I came here about a year and a half ago, as I live out of town, and could not wait to come back as I am obsessed with their Cuban eggs Benedict. I cannot say enough good things about this establishment!
I am biased because I’ve known Victor’s Cafe for decades. My late Mother loved the restaurant. And we all love Cuban food. The menu has changed over the years but it’s still delicious, based on what my wife and I had this last time. We both enjoyed the palmito salad. She had the salmon ceviche (which was presented more like a tartar), and I had the Pargo en Camisa de Plátano. And delicious café cubano. Excellent service from our server Armando. We also enjoyed the live music.
Cuban food is comfort food to me and Victor’s Cafe did not disappoint. In fact, it was so good that I couldn’t wait to take pictures of the entrees! All the appetizers looked great, but we went with the tostones con masitas de puerco. The sangria was excellent with wonderful fresh fruit. I ordered the ropa vieja and my friend ordered the lechón asado. Both were excellent. The meat was flavorful and tender. The rice was perfect and the beans were delicious (if maybe a tad salty but still great). The portion sizes were perfect and the food arrived hot. There was a mix up with our drink order so it took awhile to get the correct drink and the appetizer. That meant from the time we sat down until we both had our drinks 30 minutes had passed. We had been served water but that’s a long time to wait before you get your cocktail. The interior here is very nice, which each room having a different mood. It definitely feels like more upscale dining but the prices are not that much different than other restaurants that are not as nice. I would definitely go back!
Love this restaurant! Ropa Vieja for me and my wife had Paella, both as good as it gets! We also enjoyed 2 appetizers, Croquetas and Bacalaitos. It just doesn't get an better if your in NYC and want Cuban Cuisine! FYI, ask for Armando as your server, he's fabulous!! They also gave me Guava puffed pastries with a wonderful cream dipping sauce!!
My husband and I have been going to Victor's for about thirty years and would go more often if we lived closer. It never disappoints. Last night we went for an early dinner and ordered our usual: Hemingway daiquiris to start, lechón asado for my husband and my all-time favorite Cuban dish, vaca frita. Everything was delicious. We ended our meals with wonderful desserts and Cuban style coffee. Gabriel, our server, was very efficient and friendly. The host (I didn't get his name) was very welcoming. This is a truly sophisticated, elegant restaurant that is not pretentious. It has a very pleasant atmosphere. I look forward to our next visit.
If you haven’t had much Cuban food like us, Victor’s Cafe is the place to go. For over half a century, it has been a fixture for modern Cuban cuisine in NYC since 1963. We were captivated by the unique dishes that reflect a fusion of Spanish, African, and Caribbean influences. As a family-owned restaurant, you can feel the warmth in both the service and the food. It’s right in the Theater District, making it perfect for grabbing dinner and drinks before or after a Broadway show, with its inviting atmosphere and even live music. *Havana Guac $19 *Croquetas Corral $16 The Havana guac was aesthetically arranged with tropical root chips and queso frito. The chips were light and not greasy, making them a perfect match for the fresh guac. We also enjoyed the croquettes, which were filled with Berkshire ham and served with a tomato dip. *Paella de Mariscos $45 *** We got two of their signature main dishes: paella was my fav while my friend enjoyed vaca frita more. The paella was brimming with shrimps, mussels, squid and clams. I loved how fresh all the seafood tasted. My friend found it too salty while I thought it was perfectly seasoned. *Vaca Frita Al Mojo Agrio $36 * The vaca frita came with a pan of shredded beef, accompanied by a side of rice and black beans. The meat had those crispy edges that added a crunch to every bite. It was a little too dry for my liking but my friend loved it. It was a classic Cuban combo if you wanna try something new! *Tres Leches $14 *** *Flan $11 Pro tip: Save room for dessert. We both agreed the tres leche was the best we’ve ever had. Topped with torched meringue and berries, the sponge soaked in three milks was incredibly moist. The flan was good too with a light caramel syrup. *Cafe Cubano $5 It was rich, aromatic and sweet. I would’ve had more if I went for brunch or lunch :P
Beautiful place, I luv’d it! We were seated right away. Waiters were attentive, courteous & friendly. Food & dessert were delicious. They have great cocktails as well. I enjoyed the cod fish corn fritters as Appetizer, Sooo scrumptious! And I had Salmon as main course with rice n beans sauce and tostones as side. There was a shrimp dinner ordered as well, presentation was impressive. For dessert I highly recommend the guava cobbler with vanilla gelato. Victor’s was a Great Experience, I would absolutely go back.
First time here. The place is very nice the atmosphere is pretty chill. I came during restaurant week and their prefix menu is very limited so keep that in mind. Also be prepared to pay more since you are dining in downtown area. The restaurant is conveniently located near the E-C subway station and also the orange lines on 6th avenue.
Excellent Cuban restaurant especially before going to the Buena vista social club musical. Definitely gets you in the right vibe.
We ended up here by accident. We had tickets to see Jersey Boys and wanted to locate the theater before we grabbed some food. We saw the burgundy awning and headed straight there. There's no where in our hometown of Maui that serves Cuban cuisine so we were excited. ATMOSPHERE: Quaint bistro-style look with a big skylight in the back seating area. Looks like there is a private dining room off to one side. BEVERAGE: Presidente Beer Good tasting. FOOD: Croquetas Corral con Salsa Especial It's similar in texture to a falafel and shaped like Vienna sausages. The mashed up mixture of ham, peppers, and tomatoes is breaded then deep fried. The flavor was mild and was better with the salsa for dipping. Ropa Vieja I got it because it's listed as a specialty and the ingredients sounded yummy. Super tender shredded steak, onions, and green peppers cooked in a tomato broth and scooped into a plantain basket. The taste is exactly like beef & tomato, a staple in Hawaii. On the side was a mound of lightly-salted steamed white rice and a bowl of blackbean soup which I was told to pour over the rice. The soup tasted exactly like pork & beans from the can, which is a good flavor to me so I'm not complaining. Lechón Asado al Estilo del Puerto Boniato con Moros y Cristianos My partner's dish. Simply put, it's roasted & shredded pork with a side of yuca and a scoop of blackbean rice, topped with 2 pieces of deep fried pork skin. Uncannily tastes like kalua pork, another Hawaiian staple, with its mildly salt flavor and similar texture. The yuca is a potato that looks like squash, and tastes like a mixture of the two. The blackbeans are mixed in the rice and has a nice mild salt flavor. SERVICE: We walked in without a reservation at 6pm on a Tuesday night and got seated immediately. The hostess was friendly and our male server was very friendly, professional, and helpful. OVERALL: While the flavors may be new for some, it's very familiar and not unique to me, who was born & raised in Hawaii and grew up with very similar ingredients & spices, so that's the reason for the 3 stars. That said, the food is good, prices are average and the service was great.
The food here is just ok and they are certainly not generous with their portions. The best part of our meal was the guac with chicaron, salsa and fried plantains chips. That started us off on a good note but then it just got kinda boring after that. The lechon (pork dish) was lacking flavor and the baca frita was kind of dry. The drinks were ok and our dessert didn't impress..
Ihave visited this restaurant on couple of occasions. During my initial visit a few years ago, I had a great experience. The quality of the drinks, food, and music was exceptional. However, my most recent visit was quite different. The pricing of the food seemed inflated and did not align with the menu prices. It appeared as though they were setting their own prices. Furthermore, the drink I ordered was diluted, yet it was priced at nearly $20. My recent experience at this restaurant was not up to par with my previous visits.
