So happy we found this place. We had the vegetable spring rolls, vegetable fried rice, chicken black bean style and sesame chicken. Everything was so tasty and they were very generous portions. All of the staff serving were attentive and friendly. We would love to return if we’re ever in the city again!
Food was excellent! We had the mapo tofu and the hot pot with mixed meat. We asked to substitute the ham for the fish fillet, and they did for an extra $5. It was so tasty and worth it!
Mala House on 21st and Broadway is hands-down one of my favorite lunch spots in the city. I come here frequently, and every time, it’s consistently fantastic. The staff is incredibly kind and attentive— Chen and Cliff, especially, always go above and beyond to make every visit feel special. Shout out to both of them! The food is absolutely delicious and the service is lightning fast. Whatever you order, it comes out in no time, fresh and flavorful. I highly recommend their lunch special—it’s an incredible deal where you get a main dish, white or brown rice, and an appetizer. My go-to combo is the hot and sour soup with spring rolls to start (both are SO good), and for the main, the General Tso's chicken or orange chicken—both are packed with flavor and the portions are generous. The ambiance is also worth noting: the music is super relaxing, which makes it a great place to take a breather during a busy workday. I totally, absolutely love everything about this place. Keep it up, Mala House!
Definitely come here for authentic Sichuan cuisine. The dishes we tried were truly flavorful and delicious. I recommend the dry pot beef, spicy chili boiled chicken, and for vegetarians mapo Tofu. Prices are more on the expensive side but this is one of the only Sichuan restaurants in the area.
I really enjoyed this place. The food was really yummy I’m no pro in sichuan cuisine so I can’t tell you if it was authentic but I can tell you it’s been a while since I went here and I’m still thinking about it! Servers were super friendly and helpful when I asked what they recommended. If any of the portions look small it’s because we started eating before I got a picture 🫢
Truly a 10/10 spot hitting every note you could ask for in a dinning experience. The atmosphere is warm and inviting with lots of happy faces and people connecting over great food, friendly service with moderate wait times and dishes that look appealing and taste amazing! Shout out to our waiter Chen, he was very polite and pleasant to talk with. Always on point with keeping waters full and checking in making sure our first bites were up to standard. If you are lucky enough to live in the neighborhood consider yourself lucky, you have a true New York City gem. Chen
It’s not named The Best Sichuan for nothing, even though I’ve never been to China (not yet) it’s the best I’ve ever had 😊😋😋.I ordered the recommended dry pan chicken, delicious 😋 with house special fried rice, now that was some good fried rice,I love the fact that they make it the old school way with egg , it was the best I had in many years .The misses ordered the garlic chicken and was seriously good 😋,and to top it off I ordered the braised beef noodle soup to take home OMG that’s delicious,Soo all in all this is a Highly Recommended place to eat.👍🏽
Most authentic place for Sichuan food we’ve had in NYC! Not only the food but the warmth of the wait staff and eclectic yet elegant atmosphere. Was transported back to China. Pro tip, if you’re into spicy food (or not), be sure to augment the dishes to your desired spice level. Truly the Best Sichuan!
The Best Sichuan truly lives up to its name! We tried the dumplings, dry-style beef and the braised pork — wow, wow, wow! Every bite was packed with flavor and crafted with such attention to detail. Easily the best Sichuan food we’ve ever eaten. A must-visit for authentic lovers of spice and depth! We will be back
Delicious authentic Sichuan food in the heart of NYC! We loved the Spicy Beef Noodle, the Mapo Tofu, the pork dumplings in spicy sauce, and the pea shoots in garlic. Although we didn’t get the Dan Dan noodles, they looked fantastic and I would definitely come back to try it. Highly recommend 🍜
Very nice place, would highly recommend. Big fan of Sichuan food. Kind hosts and big portion. I add pictures for reference. A friend from work recommended this place. His name is Henning. I will try to make this dish myself at home in Belgium, and think of this place every day. My boyfriend will be very pleased with this effort, he is very jealous of me going here with my friend. My tummy is full and satisfied.
What a hidden gem in NYC! We just arrived after a long drive from DC and were craving Chinese food — The Best Sichuan on 21st popped up, and wow, what a great find. We ordered takeout, and before placing our order online, I spoke with Elaine, who was incredibly pleasant — a rare and refreshing interaction these days! When we arrived, the restaurant was bustling and had such a cozy, inviting vibe. We ordered the vegetable spring rolls, broccoli with chicken in brown sauce, and General Tso’s chicken — everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we were hoping for. Thank you Elaine & Chen — keep up the amazing work! We’ll definitely be back.
Excellent service and excellent food. We came here for lunch on Memorial Day and it was peaceful and fairly clear. My group of two ordered Pork Belly with Garlic Sauce, Wonton soup, Dry Pot Chicken, and Hot Sauce Marbled Beef with the intention of bringing some back home and boy, did we. The portions here are very generous for the price, and the quality is very high as well! Everything was great, but I think the Dry Pot stood out. Would happily recommend this place to anyone!
Just okay. My guess is that the ratings are as high as they are because they offer a free dessert in exchange for a 5-star review, and really push it. The food was just okay, service was fine, and atmosphere was, in my opinion, lackluster. I was really looking forward to being wow'd based on the volume of 5-star reviews, but it sort of felt like a scam to me. I definitely didn't need to have a reservation, there were a lot of empty tables when I was there. I was disappointed, ultimately.
Not the best Sichuan, I wouldn't really even call it that because I want my nose running and there wasn't even a sniffle. Not sure if it's because of what I look like or something, but not good and also really expensive. My husband and I got two entrees an app and tea and it was almost $100.
