Cannot say how great our experience was! Cocktail list was interesting and the drinks were well made. For food- It’s rare that the bread service blows you away. It was soft, crispy-crusted, flavorful, and included a unique and very tasty spread. For appetizers, the broccoli was highly recommended and I now understand why. Tuna was solid and had a unique flavor to it but nothing out of this world. For mains, the lamb rack and duck pasta were spectacular. We sat upstairs and our server, Mike, gave fantastic service. I highly recommend you test this place out and ask for Mike!
Dined at Union Square Cafe and had a really good overall experience. The French toast with the citrus salad was very nice and well balanced not too sweet, and the citrus added a really refreshing contrast. I also had the pasta with clams, which was very flavorful, though definitely heavy on the garlic. If you like bold garlic flavor, this will hit the spot. The fries were another standout very thin, lightly battered, and fried in rosemary oil, which gave them an amazing aroma and crispness. Overall, the food was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. A solid spot that lives up to its reputation.
Did you know that the Restaurant Week special of $45 for two courses from the main menu is held every single day at Union Square Cafe? This was a surprise. Jennifer had always wanted to eat at USC and as Restaurant Week started on January 20th we had lunch on the 23rd. As we entered the room was buzzing with diners. We sat upstairs and perused the menu. Natalie, our server, brought us a plate of the house made bread with a spicy garlic sauce. Each bite of this warm bread smeared with the garlic sauce was ambrosial and is replenished if asked which we did. Jennifer ordered the garlic potato chips, broccoli with candied pecans and pomegranate and the celebrated burger. She washed it all down with a ginger ale. The citrus salad and trout were my choices. The chips were tasty and I noticed other tables had also chosen it. Unfortunately, Jennifer’s burger had cheese on it which she didn’t want but decided not to say anything. We were too full to order desserts but did look at the menu. Service at USC is always impeccable. I have eaten here a few times and for restaurant week. Now we know that we can come here for lunch any day of the week.
Union Square was on my must try list so when I was in town, I had to check it out. Service was outstanding with many suggestions and recommendations. The food was well presented and delicious. I'll be back.
Bread - sourdough’s not my favorite, but they managed to have the bread and crust soft enough. The slightly spicy sauce that came with the bread was intriguing. Caesar salad - Some leaves were on the bitter side. But I absolutely loved the croutons that were shaved throughout the dish. What a great idea. Especially since hard croutons are very abrasive. 19th St burger - Massive dish. The skinny and crispy fries were the best I’ve had in Manhattan, I haven’t found it anywhere else. The beef patty was decent. This restaurant lived up to my expectations. Prices are reasonable for the high quality. I loved the balcony-style multi-level seating. Crowded for a weekday lunch and reservations are recommended.
Everything was phenomenal from start to finish. My only critique is that the stake should’ve been served a little bit warmer. It seems like it was left out. It should’ve came on a hot plate. Just to get a little bit more sizzle or char around the crust of the steak. The complementary focaccia bread with sesame seed and the Calabrian chili butter was a phenomenal way to start the evening. We also paired it with some red wine. no one in the restaurant was pretentious. It was casual and upscale at the same time. One of the standout dishes was the potato puff pastry with crab meat. It was absolutely divine. The richness of the butter was a great contrast. The acidity of the lemon really heightened the dish. And the textural contrast between the soft potatoes, the flaky pastry and the sweet and lumpy crab was amazing The pasta was also phenomenal. It was perfectly cooked and the duck ragu was seasoned and cooked to perfect perfection We did go a little overboard by getting the ribeye steak. Cost about US$170. But it’s enough to feed two people. It also came with two side sides. The sides were OK. They weren’t mind blowing. What really stood out to us was our server Yoshi ! She was patient and understood the menu. She knew exactly what to recommend for first timers. I feel like she went above and beyond that her job. So the service was a 10 out of 10. Like I said overall, it’s a phenomenal place. You are gonna be paying a slight premium. But it’s a great place for a date night. I would just say that they gotta work on serving the stake a little bit warmer.
This restaurant was recommended to us, and I’m genuinely thankful we decided to give it a try. From the moment we sat down, everything just felt right. When I say this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had, I truly mean it. Every dish we ordered was outstanding, from flavor to presentation, and you could tell a lot of care went into each plate. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was calm, warm, and incredibly relaxing, which made the whole experience even better. It’s the kind of place that reminds you how special a really great meal can be. We’ll absolutely be back the next time we’re in the city.
The dishes I tried were absolutely fantastic. Truly fantastic — not just “good” or “very tasty,” but the kind of food that makes you pause and simply enjoy the moment. I want to give special recognition to our server, Paul. Honestly, I have never met anyone like him — you could make a movie about this person. He remembered that two weeks ago my daughter had been here and that she follows a gluten-free diet. Without hesitation, he immediately explained which dishes contained gluten and which did not. The level of attention to detail, care, and genuine friendliness was remarkable. This is not something you can fake or teach — no amount of money could buy this kind of service. It’s a true gift. Thank you to this place for allowing me to spend my birthday here. Have a wonderful year, my friends.
Came here for a special occasion dinner with visiting relatives and it was a wonderful meal and experience. My wife and I got there early so we started with a drink at the bar. The whiskey eggnog was delicious, and the old fashioned was a little unbalanced and needed a drop or two of water, but easy enough to fix. Once we were sat, we had the loveliest server named Sheri (sp?) who was excellent in and out. She recommended our favorite dishes of the night, including the broccoli appetizer and meyer lemon agnolotti. At the beginning of the meal, my aunt mentioned she was from out of town (Texas) and she and Sheri bonded over being from the south. When dessert came, so did a little surprise from the chef: rice pudding creme brulee with "welcome to NYC" written in chocolate on the plate. The thoughtfulness was touching and really impressed us. Overall each dish we ate was delicious, and the service was outstanding. The restaurant is also beautifully decorated for the holidays right now, so the environment was festive and welcoming. I would strongly recommend to folks visiting from out of town to make this your special occasion spot.
The food was outstanding and the service was impeccable!! In a city where there seems to be a new "outstanding" restaurant opening every week, sometimes the ones that have been around for decades get lost in the noise. This place however, does not. You won't find a better classic restaurant in the city to eat at. The food still has the quality that is became famous for and the service was the best in the city.
Came here to celebrate a birthday and I was very impressed. The multiple 5 star reviews are on point. The food was wonderful and good portioned. Zucchini Carpaccio was a great way to start the night. The chicken scarpiello was amazing. Very rich and yet simple. Even the garlic sauce that came with the bread was amazing. The only dish that didn't hit the high marks was the special appetizer, duck confit tater tots with caviar. The tots were overly fried and the breading was the focus. It would be better if lightly fried or a sauce. But it didn't take away from the meal. In addition service was great from begining to end. Our server Jianci gave great recommendations and was the perfect level of attentiveness. We dined outside which was a perfect setting for a cool end of summer day. I highly recommend Union Square Cafe especially for special occasions.
One of the trend setting American restaurants that has been around for forty years is still serving delicious and inspired food. From the delicious bread to the excellent chocolate cake all of the food was flawless. Feels as of the moment as it did in the 1980s. Also a shout out to the the excellent service. Our server was fabulous.
I had an excellent dinner with an old friend recently. My friend lives overseas and came to New York for a work trip, I chose this iconic place to treat her and it did not disappoint. We shared the zucchini to start, it was refreshing and bright, followed by the agnolotti, which was so good I had to ask for more bread just to wipe the plate clean. The tilefish and lamb were both cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Sommelier David helped us pick a half bottle of Burgundy red that paired beautifully with the whole meal, and our server suggested the plum florentine for dessert, which ended things on a high note. Great food, thoughtful service, and a warm atmosphere. I’ll definitely be back soon.
My fiancé and I had a wonderful brunch at Union Square Cafe. The atmosphere is high-end yet with a casual vibe. We sat upstairs overlooking the main level, which was fun. Service was friendly and prompt, and the cocktail and wine list is extensive, all our cocktails were excellent. The food was phenomenal. The mini jelly donuts were delicious, and the shrimp cocktail was fresh. The steak and eggs and burger were fantastic. Both dishes were so flavorful and good size portions. The carrot cake for dessert was also excellent (in-house pastry chef). I recommend for brunch or dinner (we plan to visit soon for dinner).
Union Square, Café had been recommended to me by a bunch of people so I was excited to go for a celebratory brunch. The overall headline is: Really good food, small portions. The Good: (all of it) - 🥩 🍳 that may have been the best steak and eggs I’ve ever had. Delicious mix of flavors on the eggs and the steak was high quality and cooked to perfection. Worth the $40! - we got the lemon pasta too, which was delicious. Amazing balance of flavors beautiful use of a creamy citrus sauce. I wish there was more of it because my girlfriend was still hungry (and it tasted really good) - the rolls were bomb 🍞 💣 - 🍞 French toast was delicious. Soft and fluffy inside that had a great bite. It was pretty sweet in a good way so I think this is a great dish to share with the group! I will definitely try the seafood platter the next time I go. Great food, great service!
We had an amazing brunch at Union Square Cafe. A few of us from work decided to go, and from start to finish, everything was spot on. The coffee was perfectly brewed, clean, smooth, and exactly what we needed to start the day. The burger was absolutely mouthwatering, cooked to perfection. And the French toast was rich and fluffy. The service was outstanding, friendly, professional, and attentive without being intrusive. The ambiance is warm and inviting. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience in NYC.

Fabulous night. Food was sensational. Chowder, pasta, lobster and half chicken were stand outs. Sommelier chose the perfect wine.
I was here for a network dinner upstairs in the backroom for a dedicated event. The food was tasty enough and the mixed drinks were solid. The location is unassuming from the outside but spacious with high ceilings. Close to union Square it's a solid option id recommend for a descent meal and good drinks. Not cheap though.
Spent $140 to have the lasagna delivered to me. What an experience this was! This is easily the best lasagna I’ve had in my life. The pasta is so delicate and perfectly layered with the filling. It’s immaculately put together. The cheese flavor is outstanding, the pork flavor is there and the ground broccoli thrown in is a nice touch. The reason this is getting a 4 and not a 5 is because there is a lack of sauce on it. There is a small amount of sauce on top and not much else. They also give you a cup of cheap grated parmesan to sprinkle on top. Some freshly shredded parmesan, Romano or Asiago would have been better. I ended up grating my own Romano and topping with it. I shared this with my family and sadly my dad said he thought stouffers was better especially considering the price 🤦🏻♂️ To me it was amazing. Doesn’t look like it’s served on the actual menu in the restaurant but if it was I would be ordering it at the restaurant. Purchased via goldbelly. Reviewing here because goldbelly doesn’t allow reviews that are even slightly critical of any product

Absolutely horrid experience. I’ve been coming here for years. Food was decent as usual. They sat us next to their service door where servers entered in and out every 30 seconds. Whenever they opened the door, a cold draft hit my face. Our food got cold within a minute. Cold fries isn’t exactly appealing. I raised the issue multiple times and the staff refused to move us or address the situation in any way. They didn’t warn us or ask us if we were okay with the draft when they seated us (there were many empty tables at this point). Honestly this ruined my day.
