I was feeling homesick and needed something familiar and this place did not disappoint. I sat down at the bar and was served by lovely and attentive bartenders who knew when to chat and when to walk away. (A dying art). The staff looked happy, which is always a good sign. The vibes in here are pristine: Canadiana kitsch museum with a hint of twinkle lights. I will definitely be back.
Love a Canadian bar in NYC. Great service, good vibes, comfy atmosphere. I go every time I'm visiting. I love the bustle and culture of NYC, but sometimes it's nice to take a break and chill among your own kind :)
Adi made me feel right at home while I was visiting the city. He made sure to get my home game on the tv and the cheese steak egg rolls were amazing. Definitely a new must stop shop when I’m there!
Amazing gem of a bar! Love the atmosphere, the drinks, the food! Staff was so nice and accommodating. Our server was from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, she was lovely.
Great bar, great food, came in to watch the islanders game and they were so nice about moving tvs around so we could watch. Michaela was our server and she was amazing!!!
If you love sports this is the place to be. Food is always on point, wings and tenders are a must try, service is friendly and accommodating. Come early if you want to sit for the game. Definitely a vibe 10/10 recommend!
A little piece of Canada in NYC! Went here last night to watch the Jays in the World Series and understandably it was absolutely packed. But the food quality didn’t suffer, the staff were super nice and professional despite the inability to move and they did a really admirable job of serving the masses, even the groups that were standing. It was a complete blast and I will absolutely come here again.
I popped into The Canuck tonight, eh, and it was an absolute beauty of an experience! Right from the get-go, the place had that cozy, friendly vibe we Canadians are so proud of—like stepping into your best buddy’s living room, but with way better drinks. Now, let’s talk about Kevin, the bartender. What a legend, eh? This guy is the Wayne Gretzky of mixing drinks! I ordered a Shirley Temple, and no word of a lie, it was the most perfectly balanced Shirley Temple I’ve ever had. He put so much care into making it, you’d think he was crafting maple syrup in his spare time. What really stood out, though, was Kevin’s top-notch hospitality. He was as friendly as a neighbour shoveling your driveway after a snowstorm, and you could tell he genuinely loves what he does. The attention to detail, the warm smiles, and the “you’re part of the family” energy made the whole visit feel like a true Canadian experience. If you’re looking for a bar that serves up stellar service and good vibes as strong as a double-double, The Canuck is the spot for you. I’ll be back for sure—maybe I’ll even order a Caesar next time, eh? Go Canes!
The Canuck is a gem in Chelsea. Great place for drinks, food, music or a game on the plentiful TVs. The staff is attentive, friendly and keep the fun factor up. Bonus points if you are Canadian and can put a name to the faces on their Wall of Fame. This place rocks. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘 5 out of 5 devil horns.
As a Canadian who visiting the city fur a few days , I felt I needed to check this out. First of all it’s very clean and inviting. The service was amazing. Food and drink prices were fair. Highly recommend checking this place out. Poutine isn’t the best ever but a great alternative in a poutine free city like New York
We visited on Saturday evening. The bar itself looks fantastic: great atmosphere, delicious food, and friendly service. The only downside was that there were hardly any hockey games on. Unfortunately, most of the screens were showing football. I’m not sure if it was a special event or something, but from where we sat at the front, every screen showed football except one with hockey and another one with golf and some interviews you couldn’t even hear. We asked if they could switch one of the channels (the useless golf one), but the staff said the channels sometimes act up and they’d try to fix it. Nothing changed, so we ended up leaving. Still, I’d definitely recommend the bar overall 🏒
9/6/25 back for a late burger at the bar, GF in tow... I convinced her to have a white wine, she liked it. I had the Canuck burger, it was good. Not a fan of the brioche bun, but i ate it. Fries were really good and the beer was cold. Still a cool spot with more character now. First time here 7/2/22. New cool vibe, I used to come here when it was Jake's. I had the shay burger with the Caesar salad. The burger was good and so was the salad! It was a good portion as well. Friendly staff and comfortable bar stools with backs. Hooks for purses and small bags under the bar. Plenty of TVs. I'll be back!
I’m Canadian and came here to expecting to see NHL games on every screen and the jersey of Canadian NHL teams hanging on the walls. Instead US college football was on every screen and only one NHL game on but the sound turned off! The only jersey hanging on the wall was a Rangers jersey!?? Limited seating as well and I had to stand to drink my 2 pints then left because I didn’t want to stand up all night. This seems more like a wannabe Canadian pub and not the real Monty. Worth a visit once but probably wouldn’t come back.
Used to come all the time a couple years ago and had a great time and now every time weve tried to come watch a game, there’s new staff that are clearly overwhelmed and beyond rude— was yelled at by a waitress because I was not okay with their “you get whatever the bartender decides to give you and you pay for it” protocol for seltzers. Too many places in NYC that are nicer, less crowded and more affordable to go back to such a negative atmosphere!
The Canuck seated us on a weekend with their weeknight happy hour menu sitting right on the table. We ordered drinks. We got the bill. We were charged full weekend prices. When we flagged it, the server told us the menu was “incorrect.” Fine — menus get outdated. What’s not fine: they put it on our table, let us order from it, said nothing, and then charged us more. That’s not a mistake. That’s negligence at best, predatory at worst. The kicker? After telling us the menu was wrong, they left it sitting there. Didn’t take it back. Didn’t offer a correction. Just an angry shrug and a full bill. No adjustment. No real apology. Nothing. If your menu is wrong, pull it. If happy hour is over, say so before someone orders. This is not complicated — it’s the bare minimum of running a bar. The Canuck failed it completely. I’ve had bad service. I’ve had bad food. This is something different: it’s a place that will mislead you on price and then look you in the eye and tell you that’s your problem. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere that actually respects its customers. Confirm every price verbally before you order here. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
As lifelong hockey fans, we were very excited to find this place- even making the trip from Jersey as often as once a week just because we loved hockey so much and we wanted to find a true hockey bar- unfortunately this is not it. While there are many TVs- they are not always on and if they are on- they are not playing hockey when hockey is on. You'd think- if you are a hockey bar- and there is an NHL game on- you'd have it on- NOPE. Instead, the TVs in the back room are on the screensaver- so we had to flag down a server and ask to have the game turned on. There have even been times when we have been there when they have had replays of regular season NFL games from several days prior- INSTEAD of hockey- just doesn't make sense for a bar that claims to be a hockey bar. The food is not good. We were having to grab food beforehand from somewhere else or leave to go eat because of how mediocre the food is. The chicken in the wrap was unseasoned and often seemed undercooked and we did not feel same eating it. I ordered the Turkey BLT once and was served a giant hunk of dry Thanksgiving turkey that even my dog wouldn't eat when I brought it home to him. Even something as simple as French Fries just never tasted good. The service was the final straw for us. We have travelled all over the world and been to bars in the City and every city- and never have we had a bartender just shove a seltzer at us and say "you get what you get" when it comes to flavor, "we don't play the flavor game". Excuse me? I am not a child- food/drink service I am paying for should never been a "You get what you get, and you don't get upset" deal. It is rude, demeaning and just unnecessary. They make it feel like they are doing you a favor by giving you a drink and that you should just shut up and be grateful. The bartenders are rude, and even when the bar is not busy- do not want to make drinks or serve beverages. They would rather sit at the end of the bar and talk then serve paying customers. Ultimately, all this is a shame because this place has some much potential. The decor is super cool for a hockey fan like me to look at and appreciate and the city is so in need of a good hockey bar- this place just ain't it.
Being advertised as a Canadian bar, I figured this would be the perfect place to watch the World Series. Watching the Blue Jays play in a Canadian bar didn't sound like bad idea at all at first. When I visit new bars/restaurants, I always like to order 1 small item off the menu and leave the tip section blank. I do this just to test the MORALS, ETHICS, INTEGRITY, and VALUES of the employees to see if they would have the nerve/audacity to give themselves a tip. The employee pictured below in the green shirt DECIDED TO WRITE IN HIS OWN TIP FOR $1.50. THE FIRST EMPLOYEE I MET VISITING THIS BAR DECIDED TO STEAL MY MONEY AND FORGE MY HANDWRITING AFTER GIVING HIM BACK A SIGNED COPY OF THE MERCHNT RECEIPT. MAKE SURE TO A PIC AND DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS AT THHIS PLACE. WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN. The food is good and that's it.
Would be a great vibe for a Canadian sports game but awful staff experience. A member of our party arrived at 5:30, claimed a big table, Stefanie said that was ok if we all came, and he gave his card to her and promised we’d all order drinks. He proceeded to order two buckets of drinks, several dishes, and individual drinks on top of that as the rest of our group arrived. We were a group of 6 by the start of the second inning, with a $200 tab, and the rest of the group still waiting in the line outside. Stefanie came and told us we have to order more or let go of the table — we pushed back because we didn’t want anymore food at the time, which is when she announced that there was a $500 minimum we will need to hit. There was no mention of a minimum, and even less so of a concrete number for it when we grabbed the table, and it seems egregious that she’d be applying pressure to spend more and causing a scene when we’ve spent over $200 before the second inning. While we wanted to enjoy the Jays game, we left with a sour taste of our first Canuck experience. We were also there to celebrate a friend’s birthday and were frustrated to have to leave under such conditions. We were essentially kicked out, as we were getting the cheque, Stephanie tried to charge us regular price for drinks ordered during happy hour. The manager was trying to be cordial and offered us his card, said to email him about the incident, but we did so and it’s been over a week with no reply. Disappointed and will not be going back. The food was fine.
Came here for the the Jays game, came at 5:30 and asked if I could take the 7 seat table. 5 of us were there by 6:30 and the other two were stuck in the line by the start of the game since the venue was at capacity. We had ordered over 200$ in food and drinks by the second inning and the waiter said that we needed to order more food and drinks. She then said that the table minimum was 500$ and she was going to close us out if we couldn’t pay it. We were quite upset and did not want to get charged that so after explaining what had occurred to the manager we left by the second inning. Making up outrageously high table minimums midway through a playoffs game is a deceptive and unethical business practice. We reached out to the manager through the business card we got but did not hear back.
