One of my favorite places…especially on half price wine nights. They have a great bar where you can have a glass of wine and an app with a friend. Or a more formal dining space for family dinners. The tuna/avocado stack is my favorite menu item. And my favorite time to go is when they have a live band playing! Don’t miss that! Great crowd 🧡
My husband and I were in town for vacation and stopped by for dinner. The food was very good (especially the apps!), but even more so we found the staff to be fantastic and really made for a great meal.
Great food and service in this area. Got the Power Bowl and the Coconut Shrimp sushi roll.
Wings were good - little too spicy but the drinks kept it cool .... nice bar by the water ....CT living
Nice place, the old River Cat Grill in nice area along Rowayton shoreline . Tasty, well executed dishes. Server was very good, reasonably priced overall, w decent selection of IPA's (Sip n two juicy ) and wine.Easy parking right next door. Check it out. Pic is the seafood risotto.
Very lively local restaurant with great food!
Not the cheapest for a midweek family dinner, but it’s worth every penny.
Good food. Friendly staff. Tiny TVs - not a sports bar:))
Great burgers. Wonderful hosts. Very clean environment
Great little patio restaurant with good quality sea food.
Ask me on any given night where I want to go to dinner in CT, and it's Sails. I compare it to being the Hillstone of Connecticut. Pretty much no complains from me. The food is solid in a comfortable dining room with very attentive staff.
We ate at Sails for the first time post-pandemic and it was amazing. I had the special scallops over tagliatelle and my wife had the tuna burger. She wants to go back right away...it was that good. We had nice outside seating and the staff was friendly and attentive. A great overall experience.
We LOVE Sails!! My husband and I go for date night and we also go for family night with our 2 kids. They do a great job with kids and family’s as well as making it a great spot for adults to hang out. Great food and the service is excellent!! I highly recommend Sails all the way around!
This place is great. Tell the waiter / waitress you are splitting something on the menu and they will bring it out on smaller dishes. Always loved the food here and the staff is excellent. The burger is top notch!
Sails is a wonderful restaurant. They serve a wide variety of delicious apps & entrees. Friendly and professional staff. Live music in the bar on weekends. Great location just next to 5 Mile River. I recommend Sails
Every time I come home I eat here!!! The sushi and Asian fusion seafood is sooooo good. I love the mahi mahi tacos. Idk why they have 3.8 it def is 5 star!
This is really a nice small town restaurant. I enjoy having a drink/dinner at the bar or coming for Sunday brunch. The food is great! The staff really want to make everyone feel welcome!
Very nice place to catch up with local friends and enjoy conversation. Our waiter had just the right blend of timing and attentiveness.
Thursday nights are the best! Shuck a buck Night! One dollar per oyster. The staff are awesome. It’s like being amongst good friends!
Awh. A real brunch . The food, staff and atmosphere all very nice. Each team member was beyond welcoming. Oh and brunch was fantastic...
Great ambiance, delicious food and nice wine list. Highly recommend the crab cake as an appetizer and the brownie for dessert.
GM Luden & staff are 10/10 and food is fresh and so good!! Fun live events and music
The food was fantastic and service was awesome. The chocolate chip pancakes were absolutely delicious.
We're local and go to Sails weekly and love it. The team is so friendly, the vibe is always great (winter or summer!) and the food is delish. The specials and broad menu give so many options - the sushi is amazing, and some other favorites are the steak, chicken milanese and anything with fish -- the fish and chips especially - but they get the freshest fish! Highly recommend Sails!
Sails is one of our "go to" restaurants ,we've been coming here for years. The menu is huge from burgers , seafood to sushi , theres something there for everyone. We've never had a bad meal here . Portions can be big which I usually take home what I don't eat . It also gets pretty busy so best to make a reservation ahead of time . This restaurant is always a homerun for us if you haven't tried it , I would say what's taking you so long!
We arrived early on a Friday thinking we would avail of happy hour, but there is no happy hour here. We sat out in the patio area, which was nice. We ordered the shrimp gazpacho and the tuna tartare to start. You can rename it the gazpacho with 4 small shrimp…come on a few more shrimp and it was a winner. The tartare was good, not mind blowing but good. We shared a fish and chips and it was lovely. The batter was really light and the fish fresh and cooked perfectly. All in all a good visit…not sure I’ll be running back soon.
Good food, very nice staff. The bartenders are both super friendly and knowledgeable!
Nice seafood restaurant in a beautiful town. Softshell crab was so delicious!
Always fun. The drinks are great every time.
Excellent food, wonderful atmosphere and creative menu. The only room for improvement was the service. There seemed to be confusion as to who was waiting on us, so we waited for a long time to order and receive our food. We were there early too, so there were only a few tables of customers. Even so, I highly recommend this place.
Stopped in for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed it thoroughly. Had the mussels, and the spinach salad, with a nice rose from Provence, recommended by our server. Nice atmosphere on the patio facing relatively quiet street. Would go again.
On Sat night, when the (excellent) bands show up to play, this otherwise civilized bar/restaurant transforms into a rock concert/party packed tight with 50 somethings. Not the time or place for conversation, bring your ear plugs and dance shoes.
Never had a bad meal here. Service is always slow though. Order a bottle of wine too reduce the chances of your glass being empty.
A cute little restaurant in the town market. Overpriced for the quality of the food, but right next to the dining room is a more casual bar vibe that is really fun
Sails has a great atmosphere and friendly service but the food was not a positive experience. Our entrees were wildly over salted and the appetizers were average at best. Especially given that how expensive dinner was, it was not good value for the experience.
Can be VERY LOUD inside dining room. They really need to install some kind of sound absorbing panels for me to go eat inside again. The patio is the better alternative here.
Solid traditional seafood place for guys named Brad and their wives, Jenny. Lots of fleece vests (even though it was 82 deg.) & big talk about boats, Nantucket, and the currency market. Basically a little slice of Edgartown but without the ferry ride.
Nothing about this place excited me. Was also very expensive. I understand it's clientele but no lunch should be $200 for 2 people
Sails is in a great location with a nice bar and lovely terrace. The buzz and the service is hit and miss. Why do they close so early?
I recently went to Sails for brunch and noticed that the Eggs Benedict did not include asparagus, which is the classic recipe.I asked if they could add some and was told that they would for $4.00 up charge (more than the cost of a pound retail)! My eggs Benedict arrived with 4 pieces of asparagus stalks,-the bottoms at that, for $4.00.Ridiculous! Went again last night for dinner.Even worse slow service and ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp. 4 shrip, overcooked, tiny and tasted rotten. Sent it back and got hamburger which was bland, dry and tasted like it was a frozen patty-terrible.
Wasn’t a fan. Drinks and lobster roll were as mediocre as they come. Gave this spot a try because Rowayton Seafood Restaurant down the street was packed. I expected better especially for the prices.
My friends and I had the fish and chips on Sunday. We all have had the worst food poisoning.
Horribly loud. In fact measured decibel at 93 which for extended periods is well over amount to permanently damage hearing. Would not recommend. Spoke to manager about it and he dismissed my complaint. Didn’t seem to care and did nothing about trying to quiet the table down next to us or the restaurant. Bad acoustics and dismissive management. I’d never go there again - ever.
My aunt was celebrating her birthday, November 4th. She called the restaurant early on Friday. Asked about reservations for dinner that evening. She was told , no reservations required by the person answering the phone. She also asked what time the scheduled band ( a long time friend of hers was performing) was supposed to perform. They said 9 p.m. We got dressed up and drove there around 7 40. We walked in the front door and there was a second glass door yo the dining area. Before we reached that door, a short older gentleman was standing looking through the door at us and said to the younger man next to him . " Oh, they don't have a reservation" I found that odd but we proceeded in. I said, " hi , dinner for two" ? The older guy asked if we had reservations. My aunt answered , " no , I called today and they said none needed". He opened both arms and looked around and said " My dining room is full. No reservations, I can't seat you". I said , well we were told none was needed. He shrugged his shoulders again. He never said , like all restaurants do, there is a wait time, or anything. He pointed to the bar area which had no room and was crowded. My aunt mentioned the band that was supposed to perform, and he goes" oh you here for the , band, and looked at the bar area again. " A table might open up near the bar if you want there.. At that point we stepped out the glass door then left. I called the restaurant the next day and the person on the phone said he would have the manager get back to me . Haven't heard a thing. We are both from the Caribbean.
RED FLAGS!!! Don't waste your money or time. This place is unprofessional, I was taken out here for my birthday this past weekend and what a unforgettable experience in a negative way! There drinks are $15 and they are all ice! The food is unacceptable and shouldn't be given for anyone to consume . I ordered a Cesar salad without anchovies! Not only did they put anchovies on it, it was warm! Have you ever had a warm Cesar salad before? Neither have I! I literally almost puked! Initially, the other person in my party who ordered the salad said , "maybe the plate was just out the dish washer and warm" ? Wrong! Yikes! What a catastrophe! The icing on the cake was when we asked to speak to the owner to mention , the weak drinks, he stated he was a "part time employee". My friend who took me out for dinner and is also a business owner said " this place will not be around long" ! Very sad because the location was good. That was the first and last time, I will ever step foot into that place. Not to mention, it didn't look very sanitary, which in the restaurant business is a necessity . I will recommend Madonna in Stamford, great management and the owner is very personable. Do yourself a favor and go there, ask for Amine!
Poor service and overpriced. Both of kids' meals came incorrect (marinara pasta without marinara...). Pasta Bolognese was totally undercooked. Asked for parmesan cheese and ground pepper - by the time it arrived, pasta was already cold. The portion size of that pasta was definitely small - it's not foie gras, there should be enough pasta on the plate. Would not returm
When we arrived there was a nice ambience, as I remembered it from when it was the River Cat Grill. Things went down hill from there. The menu looked interesting and I was drawn to either the Scallop Salad or Cod. Both were $25.00, so it was a toss-up. I asked the server for a recommendation and the scallops were suggested without hesitation. When the three small scallops, along with greens which constituted nothing more than a garnish, arrived, I asked, "Where is the rest of my dinner?". The guy had the temerity to say, "Well, I guess you should have ordered the Cod". Then when the bill arrived I was over charged for the wine that we did order, never mind a comp for the poor direction provided by the server. Never again.
This was the worst Cobb salad I have ever eaten.Wilted lettuce thrown in a bowl, hardly any dressing (which was tasteless in any case), and some bits of cherry tomato and crumbled cheese. No bread, no presentation, no care. For a wilted green salad, 1 glass wine and a coffee with tax and tip-$82.00! Skip it!
Our first visit will also be our last. Unfortunately, almost every part of the experience missed the mark, especially given the prices. Service was slow and inattentive from the start. We waited about 15 minutes without a server before finally flagging someone down. When my wife ordered a bottle of Sancerre, we were surprised to learn that all three of the lower-priced options were sold out, leaving only a bottle well over $100. The food was the biggest disappointment. The French onion gratinée was nearly inedible, the cheese tasted off, and the broth was thin, greasy, and overly sharp, as if the wine hadn’t been properly reduced. The steak was also tough, overcooked, and lacked flavor. For what we ordered, three appetizers, four entrées, a bottle of wine, a pint, two cocktails, and a Pepsi, the bill came to over $500. Charging for fountain refills at that price point felt unnecessarily pretentious and only added to the frustration. Overall, the combination of poor service, disappointing food, and high prices made this an experience we won’t be repeating.
Customer Service & Food Quality Review: We brought our concerns to the staff about a disappointing meal—the lobster ravioli turned out to be plain cheese ravioli, with a few tough, low-quality bits of lobster sprinkled on top. At $37, it was misleading and overpriced. When we politely shared our feedback with the waitstaff, we were simply handed a dessert menu and the check—no acknowledgment and no effort to make things right. Disappointed in both the dish and the lack of response to honest customer feedback.
