Ah, hell...I came to Oaktown for BBQ but my favorite joint was closed for a funeral. There were some others looking to get in too, and I heard them talking about the New Gold Medal Chinese Restaurant and how great the Char Siu Chicken is. They gave a pretty strong reason to go...so I did. I saw many plates as I went to my table and the food looked amazing! But, I came for the Char Siu Chicken and all I can say is...it was Spectacular! 5 stars ☆☆☆☆☆

A local favorite and the morning porridge/congee is quite good. The flat rice noodle/cheong fun was pretty solid as well. There’s usually a line of patrons for take out orders but there are restaurant seating inside. This place maintains hours that allows for breakfast to very late evening dining

ambience is okay. food was great. we ordered the wonton soup, salt and pepper porkchops, beef with scallions, and yang chow fried rice. big servings so definitely worth it.

A straightforward restaurant. Decently priced, no wait, quick and easy. Food is always delicious.

The waiter was very unfriendly until the very end of our dining. Very stern in responses but the food is excellent and very well seasoned. I loved the food.

Late night go to in the late night food desert that is Oakland Chinatown, with roasted meats, and clay pot selections and rice plate combinations . Not the spiffiest ambience, and hasn’t been remodeled since it was Sun Hong Kong but for late nice Chinese food, the food is great and if you arrive late enough, there will be plenty of of street parking . I usually get the roast Peking duck and honey walnut prawns.

This is a locals go-to for decades. From seafood to meat dishes all your traditional Chinese dishes can be found here. Nothing is amaricanized like the panda food. You can’t go wrong with bbq duck, wontons, salt n pepper fried pork chops, chow meins, and even vegetarian options are good here. Lobster and crabs are also delicious. Bring your friends or family here and eat an authentic Chinese meal here. It’s almost a whole in the wall so no need to dressed up. I ordered takeout from New Gold Medal Restaurant and had the Hot & Sour Soup, Baked Pork Chops, and half of a roasted duck. Everything was really tasty. I was surprised by the generous amount of ingredients in the hot and sour soup! The pork chops smelled amazing and tasted even better. The roasted duck was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. They also have a lot of selections on their menu.

Salted fish fried rice - definitely salty and delicious. Whole duck - oily and tasty as it should be. Beef noodles - decent, but was a bit small. Pricing was reasonable. Huge plus that this place is open really late. Would recommend.

They have pretty good food here. They have fairly quick service (or maybe I always go at the right time). They have a downstairs and upstairs. This is the where Sun Hong Kong used to be. Their order of dumplings is very reasonable, and actually the most dumplings I've ever seen in an order. Their BBQ pork isn't overly 'fatty'. Their Singapore noodles is also a decent sized plate.

Nice restaurant in Chinatown Oakland CA, stayed open late, and I had dinner with my family. Ordered several dishes and we all shared. The chow main was good, the general taos chicken was not what I'm used it, the texture was a bit different. The fried rice was good. We got the house special, and the salt fish and chicken fried rice.

In terms of food, it was excellent. I actually burnt my mouth a bit because it was so fresh! However, the waitress seemed very depressed throughout most of the meal. Granted, Oakland Chinatown isn't a particularly happening place (especially at the time I visited) but customer service is something I pay a lot of attention to when going to a restaurant. This sort of thing is really hit or miss with Chinese restaurants in my observation... However, at the end I received a bit more friendly customer service from another waitress before leaving.

The first thing that needs to be said is that Oakland Chinatown is now a dangerous and depressing wasteland, especially after 5 pm when all the sane shopkeepers pull down their graffiti-encrusted metal blinds. Keep this in mind if you are interested in eating here. I have been eating at NGM whenever I have been in the area for about 20 years. I hadn't visited in a while so it was very sad to see the state of the area. There was a specific notice taped above our table warning us to not leave valuables in our car. How's that for ambiance? The food was still very good. That fact accounts for most of this restaurant's three-star score. I ordered Chicken with Black Bean Sauce over rice, my dining companion had Chicken with Salted Fish fried rice. Maybe my expectations were low because of the frightening encounters we had outside, but I was pleasantly surprised by my dish. In my dining companion's words: "It was pretty good. Not the best version of the dish but definitely respectable." Our waitress was glum and largely silent, no doubt wishing she was somewhere else like the rest of us. Didn't see much of her after our food was delivered. My debate over what kind of tip to leave was ended when I noticed a 15% gratuity was automatically added to our tab. Surprise! That pushed our total to $45 for two dishes. All in all, my recent visit was like visiting an old friend who is dying in the hospital. You recognize them and want to remember the good times, but the grim reality of the situation is hard to ignore
