5/5 only because I couldn't give it 6! A place full of history and grace. The best meal we've had in years, perfectly cooked scallops and sea bass, sides of carrots and garlic mashed potatoes were also flawless. Dessert put it over the top, creme brule and cheesecake! Our waiter Gabriel was the best, very knowledgeable, friendly, & an excellent communicator. The whole experience made our anniversary dinner one of the best! It's an expensive night out but they make it worth the trip. Starting with valet parking, a regal host, and a beautiful dining room. Could not recommend it more highly!

This is one of the most classic places you can go to in Palm Springs that has the real Hollywood vibe. The food is good..not 5 star but good. Its more about the atmosphere and location and history. But the service has total attitudes as expected by a place like this...thats just part of it to make sure it feels very exclusive and you cant even be 10 min late for your reservation or they cancel

Historic setting and superior service. The catch of the day was truly awesome (Atlantic Salmon). I had never had beef Wellington. It was good, but not not great - perhaps my mistake. I have had other beef entrees before and was not disappointed. Excellent wine list at reasonable prices and great sides. Exceptional sauces. We had a 4.9 Earthquake about 15 miles away while we were dining. The restaurant shuttered for a few seconds and then everyone went back to eating.

As a Rat Pack / old Hollywood glam fan I was really looking forward to dinner at Melvyn's. We made sure we were dressed per dress code on website. A little disappointed to see people in jeans and shorts. Maybe the dress code was a suggestion. Appreciated the people that put in effort with jackets and beautiful dresses. I was expecting more nostalgia but got the feeling Melvyn's is now Lola the showgirl with faded feathers in her hair at the end of the bar. The service in the dining room was top notch. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and did not hover. I had salmon (meh) and hubby had the pot pie - not to be missed. Agree with another reviewer...a little overpriced.

My friend and I were lucky enough to have Shelley as our server. She definitely made the experience a pleasure. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and was very honest about her likes and dislikes and backed up her opinions. We were both pleasantly surprised she wasn't just trying to down play the cheap stuff and suggest the high priced items. We started in the lounge where they had a very decent jazz quartet playing. Dinner was in the main dining room. It was a little too quiet with the house music never turned back on after the band stopped at 730. Food was decent and Shelley made the Diane sauce table-side to go with the pre-grilled steak. While the presentation was nice the overall dish was bland. I did choose the filet, which is the least flavorful steak, but it was hardly seasoned and needed salt and pepper. Besides that the deviled eggs were quite good as a starter. We also tried the Oysters Rockefeller and enjoyed the classic presentation. Prices were high and we felt that the whole experience was not the greatest value but over all enjoyed the dinner.

Buddy a fabulous bartender and Shelley is an amazing waitress. We sat at the bar for a cocktail and listened to the pianist. He was really good. We really enjoyed that. Then we moved to the dining room. Our steak came out and sat on a cart for a while before the mushrooms and the other part of the steak Diane was cooked at the table. Very interesting. I really enjoyed my meal, but for the amount of money that they charge for the wedge and the steak was ridiculous. Nobody should have to pay $100 for a steak and a salad. This place has a great history But for sure I’m one and done. Even our cocktail was expensive, $19 for a old-fashioned, really, and it was nothing fancy. although, we met some fabulous people that were there having cocktails, over all experience was good, but I just have to say be prepared for what they charge! I WOULD RECOMMEND

Yesterday, my friend and I visited this wonderful restaurant. We were delighted with the food and the waiters who served us. But I am absolutely disappointed and dissatisfied with the hostess, whom I have met for the second time, and she is completely unprofessional and has absolutely no idea how to do her job. We had a large bill for our dinner, and we were not shy about spending money. We arrived at 5:30 pm and the restaurant was practically completely empty. We asked for a table by the window, but they didn't seat us there, but rather, they seated us at an uncomfortable table in the middle. We were with a small child and a stroller, which was uncomfortable at that table. We were there for about an hour and a half, and all the tables by the window remained free, only two tables were occupied when we left. The last time I was there, the situation was similar with this same hostess. Such a wonderful restaurant should monitor its employees and hire professionals like the waiters, who were always there. Special thanks to the waiters in glasses who come from Los Angeles to work at this restaurant. He is professional. Alana Lav

Much like others have noted, the experience was messy from start to finish. To begin with, the bread basket consisted of two end pieces of a sourdough loaf: the heel, no less. Who serves that? Especially when you’re charging for it. Completely unacceptable. On a Saturday evening, they were somehow out of creamed spinach for the steaks, which felt amateur at best. The service didn’t help matters: slow, disorganised, and chaotic. Our drinks were forgotten twice and there was a general sense that no one was really in control. The final straw was the bill, which included a 5% “wellness” charge. Frankly, this is outrageous. You’re being charged for an itemised, fictitious “product,” taxed on it, and then still expected to tip on top. That’s not transparent or fair. Either bake these costs into your menu prices, remove the charge entirely, or reconsider running a business. This practice is unacceptable. That said, credit where it’s due: the steak was genuinely excellent, and the tuna tartare was also delicious. Very high quality ingredients, can't fault it.

I hate writing a negative review but first the good points. The Ingleside Estate is lovely. Quaint cottages and rooms. Melvyns was a hit in its heyday but trading on its bygone era ambiance. It's dark with wood and gold trim..elegant but not fussy. The waiters are wonderful and knowledgeable and can make conversation. The food is a let down. I am European and ordered coq au vin which is a classic french dish that includes red wine, baby onions, burgundy wine, bacon and vegetables. I got basically roast chicken, three pieces of fingerling potato and three pieces of broccolini with a slight red colouring. That and one drink was $80 including tip and a $3.00 health payment ?? Overpriced and underwhelming

In Palm Springs this week attending a conference. Looking forward to an amazing dinner but we we're left disappointed. $80 steak was not worth it. Cosmo Martini tasted like rubbing alcohol. Waited about 20 minutes for cesar salad. We weren't impressed. Hard to find parking. Dining room was very dim.

We recently had dinner at Melvyn’s and I’ll never go back. The service was fine but I’ve never been to an upscale restaurant that did not include any vegetables at all with the entrees. My husband ordered filet mignon which he said was good but it was a small piece of meat on a HUGE dinner plate with no vegetables or potatoes. You have to order them a la cart. My salmon was about 1”wide by 7” long again on a huge plate with nothing else. I inquired what a lion mane steak was. It’s a mushroom!! A $40 mushroom with cauliflower mash and mixed veggies. I inquired if I could have those mixed veggies with my salmon. NO! Now I understand why there are mixed reviews. Add a 5% surcharge for employee health insurance and $10 to valet park. I highly suggest you take your money somewhere else.

We went out for Thanksgiving dinner, which understandably meant a very busy evening. From the time we were seated to receiving our first course, it was about a 40-minute wait — not an issue in itself given the occasion. However, no one from the staff acknowledged the delay or offered a brief apology, which would have gone a long way. The food was average at best, which is fairly typical for fixed-menu, high-volume nights like Thanksgiving. What ultimately brought the experience down to a two-star level was the final interaction. When the bill arrived, our waiter — who had provided minimal service throughout the evening — pointed out that a service charge was already included. This was surprising, especially for a table of two. Having spent over a decade in the restaurant and hotel industry, I found this approach disappointing. In my view, gratuity should reflect the quality of service and food, not be prompted or enforced. Overall, a very unfortunate way to end the evening.

This restaurant is a wanna-be high-end restaurant, but it leaves much to be desired. Although we made reservations in advance, there was no record of it, so we were given seats and ordered in the bar area. There was no complementary bread or anything offered. I ordered the Chicken Kiev which was way overpriced for what I got. After spending over $200 for our group of four, we ended up snacking when we got back to our hotel room because we were still hungry. The flavor of the food was just ok. The menu offered no explanation of each entree, and the waitress couldn't answer my questions about a dish in which I was interested. I was very much underwhelmed. I won't be going back.

What a rip off establishment. Went to enjoy a New Year celebration and they completely dropped the ball. First of all they catered to a loud wedding party and treated our party as second class. The food order was wrong and the food was cold. We asked for the manager four times and no assistance whatsoever. The uber driver did warn us about the incident he had just the week before and that should have deterred us from even going there in the first place. NEVER AGAIN!

What has happened to Melvyn’s? For decades a Palm Springs institution, now a complete mess. It was our go-to place for birthdays, anniversaries - a place to impress our guests. And for us, a New Year’s Eve tradition. This time it made The Poseidon Adventure tidal wave and capsize look like a cake walk. $225 per person for this advertised “celebration” and absolutely no party favors, noise makers, hats - nor anything indicating it was the last night of 2025. No piano music as in the past. We were told that we were not important because a wedding party had been booked. Said wedding reception took over the place with loud, drunken guests and obnoxious DJ music. Apparently $225 is not enough to get a decent meal, either. Cold slop. Slow kitchen even though most of the dining room patrons left in disgust far before midnight. Despite many complaints to the staff, management never appeared. We left in anger and will not return. Beware people! Do not go to Melvyn’s!

Food was ok. Acceptable $125 Christmas menu, but 5oz steak for main felt steep an only steak option available. Too expensive v local competitors. (5% add on for healthcare re staff & 20% auto tip, so 25% on top feels over the top & just ripping people off) 1 person ordered deviled eggs - not good & couldn't eat the main as a result. She went outside not feeling well & shouted at by the valet. Service was fine. They got rid of most of the older / knowledgable waiting staff. They put us in the conservatory - not ideal, nor preferred location. Atmosphere. Ok but very different what it used to be... sad TBH. Small things like always thought sitting next to the piano man was v cool & old school pics were awesome. That's changed a lot. Spent $800+ for 4 people - way too much.. won't do that again. Been going to melvyn's for years but sadly it's changed a lot. I am massively disappointed now :(
