Black Bear Diner in Redding is fantastic!! Super delicious breakfast, friendly and attentive service (Wendalyn) – everything was just perfect! I’ll definitely be coming back.
Glad we made the stop. Fun little place to have breakfast. Service was great food was ok.
Had a great breakfast both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Good coffee, and a chance to visit with a best friend.
This place was freaking awesome! 😎👍 Found out it was the 2nd one to ever open up. The waiter was really fast, friendly, and all around one of the best! If you pass through, stay, or even live here VISIT this place and eat! You will not regret it at all!
If you love American food well prepared and beautifully served, you will like black bear diner. This has been a go-to place for many members of my family for a long time. The atmosphere is homey and family oriented, the menu has a wide selection of delicious food the staff are almost universally cheerful friendly and very helpful. If you haven't tried dining here I recommend you give it a go. You won't be disappointed.
We arrived and were seated right away. Our server was Danielle L. She was very attentive and respectful, she made sure our food came out fast and hot. Having servers like her is definitely what brings customers back.
Amazing service, quick, and a fun atmosphere for my kids. Our waitress was either Danielle or Daniela, I’m sorry I can’t remember. And the hostess was a tall man who was also great. Inviting vibes, fun energy, and GREAT prices for the portions you get.
Black Bear Diner always has great food. It is one of the things I think are important for a restaurant chain. One expects to get the same experience at every restaurant, and when you don't it stands out. While I was sitting at the counter eating, the employees were doing an inventory of items in the refrigerator and freezer near where I was sitting. This chilled my food. The reason for the 2 stars for atmosphere.
Absolutely the BEST!!! We have been coming to this Black Bear Diner for over 9 years… it is always a stop when driving between California and Oregon. The food and service have always been excellent… a reflection of the management and quality of food , service and their goal to always make. Customers feel welcome and leaving looking forward to coming back again. Today Hannah was our server… her service was perfect… friendly, accommodating and always there for refills and special requests. I spoke with Nick, the manager on duty, to compliment his staff and quality of food. He expressed the same level of professionalism but in a very friendly way. This is definitely the best Black Bear diner we have been to and we highly recommend his Redding location!!!
This is a great local place to grab a bite in Redding. We had breakfast here on a Sunday, and were delighted that we chose to came here. The pancakes and the chicken(two different dishes) that we ordered tasted amazing, and the service was polite and prompt as well. There are a lot of parking spaces outside the restaurant, and it’s easy to find parking nearby in case those spaces fill up during busy days. The interior decor was great too, I’ll be back here when I’m in the area.
I always enjoy coming here. The food is phenomenal and the staff are super friendly!
I've been to several black bear diners around California. Great food big portions of Americana diner type foods.
If you get only one thing for breakfast, get a biscuit. They are made with buttermilk and love. Probably the best biscuit I have ever eaten. Breakfast portions are large so come hungry. The omelets are good!
A straight forward meal that was just what we needed. Large portions at a great price. We enjoyed every bite!
The food was top tier, and the portion sizes are causing me to burst at the seams! Our server, Michael, was not only handsome but a phenomenal liaison between menu and stomach. I look forward to dining at Black Bear Diner in the future, with the hopes our server is half the human being Michael was.
When i got breakfast there the chorizo breakfast burrito was good and the country potatoes was also good and the chocolate milk was good and great service
Oh my God i was skeptical, after being spoiled by original Black bear in mount shasta, thought that non would be as good after trying to other in the Bay Area, but wow was i wrong this black bear was on par if not better than the original, I was dumb founded by how amazing this was , absolutely delicious, plus our server Hanna was amazing absolutely amazing service, wow can't say enough good thing wow 😋🫡
Great experience at Black Bear Diner in Redding. The cold and wet weather made me look for a warm, welcoming spot with consistent, good food for dinner. Ordered a breakfast plate - ‘2 Egg Classic Combo,’ eggs scrambled & mild italian sausage patty, biscuit & fruit and decaf coffee. Waitress made a fresh pot of decaf, breakfast arrived hot and well prepared, the butter melted quickly in that fluffy, hot biscuit. Fruit assortment was just right. Waitress was busy but attentive. She and staff were all in a good spirits; nothing fake, glad to see another hungry customer. Recommend Black Bear Diner every time.
I love places that serve 'breakfast' all day! First time in, and it was awesome! Glad to see there is one near me in Washington, can't wait to get home to try it out. If this location is indicative of Black Bear Diner's I'm excited to get home and try the local one.
I arrived around opening time, and the staff was welcoming and attentive during my entire visit. Food and beverages were spot on throughout and I will definitely recommend family and friends to stopby if they get the chance.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Went In as a DoorDasher, Left as a Customer (The Free Kind) This place is a dangerous vortex of deliciousness. I walked in as a DoorDash driver, focused, determined, and on a mission to pick up my customer's order. I lasted approximately three minutes before the staff completely changed my day. They had a massive, unclaimed meal that someone never picked up—and instead of tossing it, they handed the entire glorious plate to me! Five stars, because it's so good it not only compromised my work ethic but also paid me in delicious, free, forfeited meals. Black Bear Diner doesn't just serve food; it serves a lifestyle. A very full, very happy, and slightly less productive lifestyle. I'll be back, probably on my next delivery shift.
I want to thank the crew at Black Bear in Redding, CA who made the experience one I will never forget. Nick (Manager), Meredith (Waitress) and Morgan (Waitress) are the amazing crew that took care of me. Even though I only came in for a short time to place a To-Go order, they made the experience very fun and they listened to everything I had to say. The cooks are great also because the food is ALWAYS on point!!! I highly suggest visiting them, you won't regret it!!!
Been going for 20 + years. Last time for breakfast. Gravy was cold, wife's breakfast was cold. Not normal. Usually very good food. Still 5 stars. We will be back to see if things have changed.
The second Black bear since it started in Shasta. Cozy, spacious and clean interior with cute decorations everywhere creating a very pleasant atmosphere for dining. Fresh and delicious food beyond the quality of other chain diners. The only drawback is the location. Convoluted streets add to the roughness of that area at night.
We walked in almost right at closing time and were so grateful they still welcomed us in! The whole team was super friendly, and the service was surprisingly fast, especially big shoutouts to Michael and Nick for taking such great care of us. They didn’t rush us at all and made us feel completely at home. Truly appreciated the kindness and hospitality. Great food and even better service! We’ll make sure to stop by again 🐻👏
This is the best Black Bear Diner I’ve been to. The staff is very friendly and the manager, Quentin, is very attentive! Guests and staff looked happy in there, which I was not expecting - overall great vibes, food wasn’t greasy, and the bathrooms were clean! Shoutout to their line cooks for making fluffy scrambled eggs and good looking pancakes! 🥞
I was in California to see my brother in the hospital. To say this place has comfort food is an understatement. I need it as much comfort I can find and I found it in the food here for sure and the staff. Everyone is so friendly and the food is so amazing, warm, and huge servings. What is Staple in a community this is.
Hey you! I dare you to try the Chicken Stack! Layers of Deliciousness meets comfort food in this overlooked menu item! Look, we all know that this restaurant is amazing! We all have our favorite go-to items. This is my new favorite ❤️ it was love at first bite 🍴 chicken on top of a generous layer of onion straws, topped with mushrooms and chopped up bacon, topped with an amazing sauce. It is absolutely delicious, Keto friendly, and 100% satisfying! So I dare you all to step out of your comfort zone for One Meal…..try it…..I’m betting that you will be as amazed as I was! #chickenstackchallenge Life is too short not to try new things once in a while . You never know, it may become a new fan favorite 🤩 Also, just so everyone knows, this is the BEST location I have been to- and I travel all over CA. The staff here are incredible, courteous, knowledgeable, and caring. The chefs are awesome! Love you guys!
JAMES H. was our server!! Super funny guy Great job great service!! Foods delivered hot and tasty!! Also offered a 10% military discount which I was not aware BBD offered! Our family loves this chain of restaurants and one of our favorite go to!!
OHY WORD! It was our first time ever going, I was born and raised here and I can't believe I waited that long to go. It was wonderful, huge portions, great atmosphere, feels very "family like. We went for my husband's birthday, and we will 100% be back!
Out of all the Black Bear Diners in the area + the PNW, this is my favorite. I literally stop here every single time I drive to California. A great location, great service and great food. Keep doing what you do, Redding Black Bear Diner.
I LOVE this location! The Chicken Stack is my very favorite item on the menu! It is carnivore and keto friendly, and it is consistently delicious. It might sound strange, but once you try it you will become a true believer. This is carnivore/keto comfort food. The staff here is wonderful! The chefs are outstanding! I usually eat here in the evenings, and just cannot say enough good things about their outstanding Customer Service and delicious Chicken Stack! Please do t ever take it away, encourage people to try it- it is a winner! As a carnivore/keto person it is my go to!
This is a wonderful Mt Shasta local started chain of restaurants that has expanded quite well due to dynamics of family entangling and marriages and everything, but they are a wonderful restaurant. Sadly they used to have the best Bacon of any restaurant ever I think sourcing a very expensive cut from R and R but now they just source a high quality cut from R and R I think in bulk but not the to die for bacon of years ago. Iean years ago as a child I thought it was the best Bacon of my life when I had it. As a site note this is one of the last places in all of Redding to get a malt So if you want a malt you have to come here. I am on the hunt for other places.
I was in Redding, CA for a job interview, but have known that this Black Bear Diner is the ORIGINAL and have been wanting to come for years, so it was no thing at all to drive up the extra hour! The diner itself is cozy, traditional, but has plenty of seating and the service (and food) was excellent, especially since it was around the holidays (12/17) that I visited. My favorite things there are simple: Biscuits and Huckleberry Shake (in spite of the cold weather, haha)! On top of it all, you cant beat the views of Mt Shasta that are right outside the doors! Thank you Black Bear Diner OG, I will be back!
Black Bear Diner is by far the best breakfast restaurant in Redding, California. It feels like a little piece of old-school Americana that I hope always remains. I love Hannah!!! My recommendation: two people should split one ScramBOWL (spelled just like that). Skip the ham and substitute extra crispy bacon—it’s absolutely heavenly. The manager, Jim, is a kind and excellent gentleman. If you order on DoorDash and happen to be out of ketchup at home, he makes sure you get plenty. Austin, the young man who answered the phone, was polite, professional, and a class act as well. Both of them went above and beyond—Redding is lucky to have them. Five stars across the board. And here’s a tip: if you order through DoorDash and spend $20 or more, you get $6 off. Delivered, it can actually cost less than dining in. What a deal!
Awesome! Amazing! Freedom was our waitress and she was THE BEST! We just moved to town and BBD is our fave place for a good affordable meal for our family & Freedom shared all kinds of useful info for us about places to go here and my daughter just adored her! Great dining experience!
Always a fantastic experience here. The food was phenomenal! Cost is perfect for the amount of food received. My server, Freedom " was on point, friendly and absolutely amazing! Thank you Black Bear for another wonderful meal!
All I can say is, I will definitely look forward to trying another plate off their awesome menu. Every plate ive tried thus far, amazing. Great food, great price with a homestyle touch. Highly recommend, order anything on the menu, you will not be disappointed.
We met some longtime friends there for Breakfast and was an amazing experience amazing. We were seated quickly, and the food was great. To complete the wonderful food, was our amazing server, Mark! We live 4 hours away and meet up with our friends 2-3 times a year. Mark was efficient and made our experience fun and enjoyable! We even included him in our traditional photo. The manager was kind enough to come to our table and greet us as well.
It was our first time in a Black Bear Diner and I can say, I’m absolutely in love! Had the Bacon Blue Burger - wow!!! Love the atmosphere there and the food is more than excellent! We were served by Michael and Nick and they were absolutely friendly and welcoming. I can highly recommend this Diner!
Thoroughly enjoyed the $11.99 steak and eggs special this morning. The steak was delicious and seared just right. Service was excellent and very friendly.

Good generous portions just not quite the quality it seems like the taste that I remember in years past!
This is a pretty good Black Bear. We have been to many. Service seemed a little slow and off and we had trouble getting a extra place setting, but the food was good as always. Better than usual bathrooms for a Black Bear as well.
Random decided to treat myself to a turkey dinner last night. I looked up who would have one locally that was still open nearing 9pm on a Monday and decided to try black bear since I had never been to the local one. I was greeted and sat immediately. The entire experiencefollowing was overshadowed by how loud and boisterous the senior server was. She needs training and guidance. The same traits that make her a good waitress and supervisor are the same traits that were entirely unprofessional and created an uncomfortable dining experience where I was forced to hear the conversations between her, the cook and the busser through the entire meal. In hindsight, I should have asked them to be quiet. Friendliness and enthusiasm have a place when directed toward the guest.
I travel for work and because of that I have to eat out a lot. So I try my best to find places that are worthwhile. And let me tell you, Black Bear Diner is worthwhile. Although, it was a slow start getting seated and having my order taken. I wasnt too upset about my waiter, Chuck, taking his time to get back to me because it seemed he was taking on many large tables and handling customers seated at the bar too. It was obvious that Chuck was doing his absolute best and he was all go and no stop. I did not see the man take a break, NOT ONCE! I arrived a little after 5pm and as soon as I got seated the croweds rolled in. So plan on a small wait if you get here a little later. They have to clear tables. That's how busy this place is. The food is wonderful. I'm not a pancake person, per se. And I took a chance on ordering the Mini Volcano (which by the way is still an immense amount of food) and I was beyond impressed by the pancakes. They were soft and sweet, I can't describe the flavor (buttermilk??) But they were so good!! I wish I had room for desserts! I'm actually planning on bringing my co-worker here when she gets into town! I will be back!
I only go on Sundays after church. So they are very busy on this day so 🤷 but food is always good 👍 and they always have bar room if your into that! Recommend to all familys!
Established diner with a small town country vibe. Food is great but my country potatoes were stiff like morning wood!
I was told on the phone they had all you can eat fish and chips when I got there They told me no that's Friday's only. The staff was happy making loud conversation amongst themselves. Other than that it was fine
We came to this location like 4 times in less than a month, while traveling. They have many interesting options that we wanted to try. But the one thing we had to repeat, as you can see, was the tri tip sandwich. It comes with the au jus (broth or gravy made with the meat’s liquids) you can dip your sandwich in. Burgers are great, fries too. The place is very family oriented, we loved taking our son with us and sharing our food. Staff was always helpful and friendly. We didn’t have to wait so long for our order the first times, but on the last night we waited 30’ to get our food, and they ran out of many items on the menu :( I would give them 5 stars, but I think they could improve on cleanliness. Floors and cutlery may have needed cleaning. We hope to go back again when we’re in town. Especially, to try one of their many desserts 🍮
So this is my second time at Black Bear diner in Redding. The first time was a few weeks again had the fish and chips and hot chocolate for dinner and a Bear claw to-go. It was so much food and I was so happy with eveything. Tonight was a little bit different. The waiter was great (James) had hit chocolate within a few minutes I ordered the pot roast, because who has time to make pot roast and I was really looking forward to a big serving. I had the soup (chicken noodle) which was good and a huge corn bread muffin which was awesome. The pot roast I ordered with bacon green beans and sweet potatoes fries. The bacon beans were just ok The sweet potato fries were awesome The pot roast is where it all went wrong. The carrots were hard so had I couldn't use a fork to pick them up. And the pot roast was cold in the middle. Now, I will take it home and eat it after I hear it up more but not quite the level I was expecting since my first time was so great. I'll try something else in a few weeks and do another review. I read the placement says they (PR TEAM ) always reads the reviews I hope you guys can work out the issue with this dish be cause the flavor is great.
Definitely one of the better Black Bear locations. Went with a group of 5, service was great, and food came pretty quickly. Refills came promptly and all special requests were accommodated without issue.
Had a nice Sunday Brunch with the grandkids at Black Bear Dinner in Redding. We were greeted cheerfully and seated pretty quickly (good thing, we arrived around 10AM and by 10:30 there was a line!!!). Long menu - lots of choices. Pretty much diner style - eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, sausage, hash browns - you know. I ordered the Big Bear - 2 eggs (over easy) and my 2 choices - pancakes (of course) and turkey sausage. My wife ordered and omlet with hash browns and a biscuit. Kids had eggs, a mini volcano and waffles. Kids loved it - gobbled it all down. My Big Bear was good. Pancakes good (not great really but good) and the turkey sausage was quite good. My wife’s omlet was very good - and the biscuit - was huge!!!! Overall a good meal. Especially for a good price.
We were seated right away but they were busy, so we didn't get our meals for more than 1/2 hour. (Not a fast food restaurant of course!) The veggie omelet was full of veggies, and the toast was served dry as ordered. The fruit bowl was mostly melon. The over-easy eggs were a bit too easy with runny/ stringy whites, and the well-done bacon that was ordered was partially cooked - the fat was overly plentiful and still floppy/white. The waffle was cute with a bear paw imprint, and was very good.
Stopped by with Mom & Grandma for dinner. I had the Tri Tip dinner plate. Menus were on newspaper. Serving size was plenty. We did have to remind the sever of the cornbread. She said “oh yeah huh” My mom had the Mac and cheese as a side and it was kind of cold in some spots. Most likely microwaved. My baked potato was pretty dry. The steak was cooked and seasoned well. Server took a long time to get us refills of water. It wasn’t too bad or exceptional. 6.5/10.
This was my 2nd or 3rd time at a black bear restaurant and it was excellent service and a really great salad. We were traveling North on Interstate 5 and it was an easy off and easy back on. (Redding, CA) They have a very large menu and I would like to especially Recommend their Crispy Chicken Cobb salad. Service was quick and attentive.
Black Bear Diners are quality fun places to have meals, especially for breakfast, lots of options, big portions and good food. We went on a busy Sunday but didn't have to wait too long for a table. Service was good for it being so busy, not great. Food came quick and didn't feeled rushed to order. All the food was good and you get way more than you pay for! Much better than a Dennys or ihop.
The orange juice, is freshly squeezed! I love how they have their menu's printed out to make it look like a newspaper with community news on the outside and the menu on the inside. It really was cute! The service was just right, not checking on us all the time but also not letting enough time go by that we think we've been forgotten. The food was pretty good. It wasn't a "OMG, I'm definitely coming back" but it definitely wasn't a "yeah, where's my check?". The atmosphere was just right. I went on a Tuesday morning and it wasn't too busy but also wasn't dead.

Busy place. Food is standard cafe food. Food is generally good. wait times can be a little too long. Service time can absolutely too long. Prices in line with similar restaurants.

Pretty average diner. Pie taste like pudding. Ordered a decaf never got it
Very busy mother's Day. We ordered food for pickup and we're directed to wait in the pickup area. I had to look at all of the bags to find mine. Food was comfort food, as usual. Simple, filling, good. Biscuits were very good!
Redding’s Black Bear Diner is less a restaurant and more a roadside institution here in the PNW, equal parts lumberjack fantasy and comfort food chapel. The breakup of the original owners didn’t kill the vibe; the same woodsy, kitschy, log cabin theme still wraps you up like a flannel shirt that smells faintly of syrup and bacon grease. I’d been lured in off the highway by those Grapevine billboards screaming about the “all you can eat fish fry.” The kind of promise that gnaws at your brain for miles. By the time I rolled into the parking lot, stomach tuned like a drum, I was ready to commit. But fate is cruel: the fish fry was sold out, gone, vanished into the bellies of hungrier travelers who got there first. Inside, the place was running lean. Short staffed, with one poor waitress hustling like she needed roller skates just to cover the floor. And yet despite the chaos, despite the missing fish fry I still walked out satisfied. The meal hit that diner sweet spot: hearty, unpretentious, exactly what you want when you’re running on fumes. Black Bear Diner doesn’t need perfection it thrives on atmosphere, kitsch, and the stubborn charm of a place that knows exactly what it is. A roadside altar to the hungry and the weary.
I have gone her frequently it seems that it has gone downhill staff is friendly but the place was filthy. I understand people call out making it difficulton the other staff; you still need to keep your standards at the companies expectations. Ordered a drink but never received it, got my water though😄. Not sure if they have a corporate structure this place could benefit from unexpected visits from who ever over sees the business.
Big portions, cozy atmosphere, not a good place to go if you watching your carbs! Biscuits are the size of a loaf of bread! Definitely comfort food and lots of it!
I ordered the same thing today as yesterday. Club sandwich w/fries. Yesterday it was fantastic. Today, not so fantastic. Fries weren't completely cooked and were dripping grease. They packaged the fries on top of sliced sandwich, for delivery, so the bread was soggy and greasy as well. Bacon was near raw.
Went to this location for dinner while we're in town, we were seated promptly and asked for drinks. The host brought us drinks and told us our server would be over soon. We needed a little time to check out the menu, our waitress came over and introduced herself to us. She was very friendly and polite. The restaurant wasn't too full when we arrived but quite a few more tables were filled while we were there. The restaurant wasnt too loud, we could have a conversation. The restaurant was decorated in many bear themed items. They had a small gift shop near the register. Some of the staff were kind of hanging around betting on who would order what etc. and werent paying attention to the chefs. The cooks had to have the host take items to the tables because of this. Our server was pretty on top of things, got our food out quickly and got our order correctly and checked on us often. Drink refills were a bit behind but she had quite a few tables and it was understandable. Overall it was a decent meal for a decent price.
My first time visiting Black beer diner wasn’t highly impressionable unfortunately. The food was pretty decent but there were moths flying around which doesn’t seem to be the environment most would wanna experience while eating at a restaurant. Service was ok nothing worthy of another star. I’d love to give this chain another chance at some point just not sure it’ll be this location specifically.
When we arrived there was just one other party in front of us. By the time we were seated 30 min later there were about 8 parties waiting. On arrival it was busy but there were a few empty tables. …
It took us twenty minutes to get to order our food. The waitress was very curt asking for our drinks before we sat (and only remembering one of them because she couldn't take a minute to listen to our response) and asking what bread I wanted rather than listing and was rushing our order to the point that I couldn't ask for water before she was off. The bathrooms are not clean AT ALL. We got sandwiches with chili and the food was good. And while I can see not having proper mustard containers on the tables, they must not get that request often because the three packets they gave were very very old and came out weirdly congealed.
To start with the first thing you notice is the smell of wet floors. The second thing was the cold biscuit and gravy. The workers were loud. Over all it was a bad experience.

All my adult life I've cooked my own thanksgiving meals but, this year at 80 years old I just didn't want to do it. I decided to purchase a meal from Black Bear for a little more than their competitors because I thought it would be better. I ordered it for pickup a day ahead as I'm a disabled Marine Corps vet and I just wanted to pick it up and go home. I parked in the pick up zone and called as instructed. I was put on hold and then no one ever came back. I went inside and was told to stand in line which I did even though it became painful. The place was packed. My order was not ready and I had to wait forever. I finally got my order and went home. There were two large slabs of turkey but they were half gristle. I didn't even know that was possible. I wound up giving my much anticipated turkey to the dog. My salad dressing turned out to be horseradish. The pie was good but I don't think it was home made. The crust was limp and soggy. The mashed potatoes, gravy and stuffing were good. No complaints about the workers. They were working at a feverish pitch but still remained courteous. I think if Black Bear is going to continue to offer Thanksgiving meals they should limit the number in order to maintain quality and, for Gpd's sake, buy better turkeys Update…Three days now after I sent them my name, phone number and e-mail and no further response from them. I guess they just posted their response to look like they care. Now they are sending me an ad to order Christmas dinner from them. If I wanted a meal from the rescue mission or a high school cafeteria, I would just go there and save the $30 and get a better meal. 2nd Update… It’s now Dec 8th and they have still not contacted me directly either by phone or email
Ordered here about a week ago, was on a getaway with my lover and they gave us disgusting food , the hashbrowns where not cooked at all , the grits tasted old and they rushed us out since it was late…

Haven't been in for a meal in a year or so, very dirty bathroom, after being seated it was about 10 minutes before we saw a waitress, used to be very nice. Won't be back.

Is Christmas day and it is busy inside the diner, we sat at 12:43pm our food didnʻt come til 2:03pm...I get they are bus but when I asked how much long they expect me to wait for my Country Fried S…
Stopped to eat here and this is the dirtiest Black Bear Diner I've ever been to. It smelt like the bathroom everywhere and the floor had food and trash all over. We left and didn't eat.
One of us ordered the Taco Salad which comes with your choice of ground beef, grilled or fried chicken. They have a fish and chips plate that's all you can eat for $14.99 if you order frozen fish…
Food was disgusting and hash browns were cold. Coffee was nasty. Worst breakfast ever. I ordered the French toast meal. Don't know what the hell the bread was, but it was horrible. I also asked for…
My friend and I went for a quick lunch. They were busy, and that is a welcome sight for sure. We ordered our lunch and our drinks arrived. While sitting and waiting, I watched plates of food being …
Table wasn't clean. Other tables were half-bussed. Dirty rags left on tables. Pet hair all over the floor despite no animals being allowed. The floors looked like they haven't been cleaned in ages. The service was so bad. The person who took our order could barely communicate, and didn't offer all the options for our meal. We couldn't get a refill without getting up and asking for it, despite our waitress seeing empty cups and choosing to chit chat with co-workers. My side's came so late they were cold. 0/10. I will not be going back. It's deeply upsetting because Black Bear Diner has been so good in the past. At least there were no major problems with the food itself, but im paranoid about how it was prepared considering how disgusting the rest of the place was.
The biscuits were rock hard the gravy was cold and the grits were crunchy!! Worst breakfast ever.
I ordered the western burger. Fries were soggy. But the worse was.. I have a severe problem with lettuce. I asked the waitress with sincerity... No lettuce near my plate. Well it came out with lettuce under a lemon as garnish... It was removed. Second bite... A couple pieces of shredded lettuce. As I would expect, most of you would say why not tell the waitress... I would have, you see... If the waitress would have ever come back with my buddy's BBQ sauce and to check on us. But when she did come back our plates were pushed away... She dropped the ticket and the sauce and kept moving
Went in with a friend of mine, no cream for the coffee, no ketchup so friend asked our waiter. Came back with cream and still no ketchup. Friends very tiny glass of OJ was warm. Place was only half filled with people but still had to wait forever for our food. It must have been sitting out forever because finally a waitress from the complete other side of restaurant finally brought it over. French fries, food was cold... Club sandwich did not have a speck of mayo on it, nothing, completely dry. Asked at cashout to see the manager. They said she was out but brought back our waiter who was so lousy. Turns out he is the "Team Leader" Told him what happened and he said we should have said something sooner. How could we? He was blowing us off hardly showing up and waitress who brought our food went back to other side of restaurant. He said "we will try to do better next time" making nothing right. I got a better idea. Stiffing you for a tip was my pleasure. I will give you the one star rating you deserve Mr Team Leader, My friend and I wont ever come back, and as a lifelong resident of Redding spread this story far and wide to friends and family.
I've ordered from this black bear multiple times via door dash. I'd say it's about a 20% chance I receive the side salad that is supposed to come with my order. Everyone else's sides come with their orders, but the success rate on salad? Subpar. My family loves black bear, but this has gotten ridiculous.
