Fabulous evening at the ever so retro Toby Cottage! Visiting local and decided to book! The waiters are so fun and make you feel so looked after (hi Mark!) I had the duck salad and the herb rubbed lamp rump, my husband had the lobster bisque and the ribeye special. We shared baileys cheesecake & a coconut cherry roulade. Loved it!

You might drive passed the unassuming traditional looking Toby Cottage in Ripley, but that would be a mistake! For a touch of nostalgic 'old fashioned' vibes, service and cuisine, look no further! In a time of 'slap dash chuck your plate on the table without so much as a smile let alone eye contact', this place is a breath of fresh air! Service with a smile, conversation, jovial flair and a genuine want to make your experience one worth paying for is what greets you at Toby Cottage. The food was delicious with an excellent wine selection..... And as for that beautiful dessert trolley..... A touch of class! A refreshingly lovely way to spend a Saturday lunchtime! Thank you!

We found this place thanks to Google map reviews so I am returning the favour by adding a review. As others have said, the decor is dated but the food is delicious and the service quality is top notch. I loved the dessert trolley. Our waiter Mark was excellent. I will definitely be returning and will bring friends and family.

I attended the men's fellowship lunch at Toby Cottage organized by Richard Langtry and deputy organiser Brian Manors today

We went for dinner and were very impressed with the experience. The restaurant itself is somewhat dated, but that’s not a criticism, it’s like walking back in time and the level of service reflects that. The waiters and all staff we dealt with were very kind and entertaining. The food, well, the food was sublime! I would recommend to anyone and we will be returning in a few weeks to try some other items on the menu! Fresh bread and butter on arrival was a nice touch, especially because the bread rolls were shaped like tiny loafs which was a nice touch!

Excellent on every level. Food was amazing, the service was fun but unobtrusive and the building is amazing and seems much older than 1890 when it was (apparently built). The Beef Wellington is amazing and my whole group all enjoyed their meals. The price is according to the quality.

Food and service was amazing faultless . Waiters were attentive whity and professional which is very rare to find these days. A tad expensive but the whole evening experience was well worth it . We will be going back for my birthday celebrations again next year .

This restaurant is great - the ingredients are fresh and the dishes are flavourful, so well-done. We were served by Mark, who’s witty and very friendly. We had a very good time here!

An excellent, typical English cuisine with a rich wine list including marvels from Spain such as rare Ribeira del Duero. Ripley is one this charming treasures of the Surrey country side and the Tobby cottage seems to be part of a novel by William Thackeray.

As always we had a wonderful evening at The Toby Cottage celebrating our wedding anniversary. Always a good dining experience. Food and ambience never disappoint. Looking forward to our next visit.

We had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch at Toby Cottage today. We all ate from the set menu, there was an excellent selection to choose from. We all really enjoyed our choices. The sweet trolley was exceptional. The service was above and beyond and everywhere spotlessly clean. There is a very traditional feel to the restaurant. I would highly recommend a visit.

Went to this restaurant as a walk-in on a Tuesday night and was seriously impressed. In contrast to the modern trend in restaurants, the menu is vast and all of it looks very appealing. The chef is excellent and the food is top-notch. The Maitre d' is charming and hospitable and the prices are reasonable. There is a fair bit of competition in Ripley when it comes to restaurants but this place really ought to be a lot busier than it is. Highly recommended.

Excellent birthday party for our family on Sunday. Everything was perfect! Beef wellington was historic but everyone enjoyed their meal.

First time visiting Toby Cottage and can only say that I regret not having discovered it sooner. The food was exceptional, superb quality and generous portions and attention to detail - even down to the side dishes which were all delicious. Loved the pudding trolley as well! Service was fantastic, friendly, attentive, good humour and banter. Will definitely be back and could not recommend highly enough.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Firstly, the service was very quick and the wait staff were really friendly. The main menu is, as expected for this area and quality, a little expensive but the lunch menu is an amazing deal. The food is superb. Even the bread melts in your mouth. The starter was a good size and the main was quite a big portion so you're really getting your moneys worth. I nearly cried with joy when the dessert tray came out because of the beautiful presentation and great amount of choices. I will definitely be coming back. If you're looking for a nice (but not stuffy) place to eat come here!

We tried this restaurant while staying overnight in Ripley and what a find! Lovely atmosphere, generous portions, fabulous, proffessional staff. A group on another table were enjoying a birthday celebration, where the staff joined in and sang Happy Birthday, which was a nice touch and the fact that the desserts are brought round on a trolley was super old fashioned - lovely. The only hiccup was that it seemed rather pricey but a good evening out.

We had the most delicious meal with 30 friends and family to celebrate our wedding. Fabulous food, excellent service from such a friendly team and a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to all at Tony Cottage

Amazing meal which we was made even better by the hilarious and very attentive staff. Have an old fashioned style dessert trolley which almost no where else does anymore.

The restaurant was absolutely fantastic. The food was exceptional—every dish was full of flavor and expertly prepared. The desserts were equally impressive; they were the perfect sweet ending to the meal, with a great balance of textures and flavors. Overall, a wonderful dining experience that I’d definitely recommend!

My partner and I had such a wonderful experience. The food was incredible, extremely accommodating if you need to change something from your choice of food. Service was 10/10 and the waiters have a great sense of humour! Perfect, quaint little spot! We will be returning :)

What a fabulous find this was. We went for Sunday lunch as it was somewhere my mother in law went many years ago with her late husband and she wanted to go back. The food was lovely but what really made it was the staff. Such a fun bunch. There were short staffed and so very busy but still managed to have a great time with all their customers. We will definitely go back.

A table booked for five on a Thursday in August What a pleasure to visit this fabulous restaurant and genuinely feel welcomed by the owner and all the staff. A great selection of Good Honest food cooked to perfection. We all enjoyed our Lunch. Yes it's like stepping back in time at The Toby Cottage. Back to the days when the customer was made to feel special. Top service with a smile by a professional host and waiters . Just amazing a thing that you rarely find these days. It's a pleasure to award this Fine Restaurant Five Stars on Everything. WE WILL BE BACK. ,JUST MAGIC.

Just what we wanted! Sunday lunch. We ate varying starters followed by the standard Sunday roast lunches ; 2 x Beef, 1 x Pork. It was just what we had in mind. We'd certainly go back as the remaining menu items looked really good & we'd like to try different things.

Just excellent my daughter and I had flown on to meet some family and friends at Toby cottage. Just super. Well done everyone. The he'll of the m25 being closed did now spoil our day.

Have visited a few times. Always happy occasions, and with good food and wine, it makes more discussion and memories. Great staff that leave you alone, and when you want, and are right there if you need topping up. I've always liked the food there. The way they make up their steak dishes are awesome. Thoroughly recommended.

Absolutely fantastic experience. The staff are excellent, friendly, polite and funny, in all the right measures. They made my 7 year old son feel a million dollars! It may not be cheap, but the food was worth every penny, very tasty and generous portion size. Not importantly all 5 of us received our food at the same time, so no one was left waiting. It's an old restaurant, with a cozy decor and has more than 40 years of trading, long may it continue.

We celebrated with a party of 15 friends at the Toby Cottage last week. The food was excellent, service fantastic and everyone really enjoyed themselves. We have been coming to the Toby for many years and would highly recommend the restaurant

This a great restaurant. Food is amazing and the service even better. It's an old cottage converted into an old fashioned restaurant, right up my street. I have been here a few times over the years and it is consistently great. The bar is upstairs and the restaurant is always full so always book to avoid disappointment. I have been twice in two weeks with two of my daughters for their respective birthdays this November (different years 😂). Service is wonderful, attentive, caring and fast. They have lots of staff to ensure you have a great experience. I have had melted brie and today the fried calamares as starters. Simply delicious and a very generous portions. I have also tried the fillet steak and the beef wellington and both are just too good. My wife had the Sunday menu and loved it. I strongly recommend it. But book first.

Tony was the perfect host, chatting with with humour. We chose from the summer menu and all dishes were excellent. 3 courses plus drinks and service came out at £45 per head, including drinks, which very reasonable for the quality of food. This was our third visit and it will not be our last

C

Thank you to all the staff at Toby Cottage for your wonderful food and service yesterday for our dear friend's 70'th birthday. You were all outstanding, attentive and all adding a little of your own humour and fun. Such a lovely occasion, thank you.

An absolutely lovely and delightful dinner. The food was excellent with well sourced ingredients, very good wine list. The highlight was definitely the service; Mark does his job like no other, great cocktails & best espresso martini of my life. Absolutely recommend.

Rare to find real local restaurants with pleasant service and excellent menu and specials. Good atmosphere - keep your head down to avoid the beams! Impromtu booking to visit Wisley Glow but will be back.

Sunday lunch with friends. Very good. Starter, roast beef with everything, and dessert from the trolley, Two bottles wine between 6, drinks (G&T) on arrival. £50 a head. Very good value, great service, I've eaten a lot of roast beef (other food available too) dinners and this one is recommended by me for quality and value.

A great little place, good service good food, staff are great very friendly. Will supply glutenfrree food as all cooked fresh.

Great location but restaurant decor looked tired and the environment was like a trip back to the 1980's. Extensive menu which suggested to us that the food was cooked from frozen and not freshly prepared. Meat was tough and vegetables were overcooked. Dessert trolley tray was disappointing, old and really needs a refresh. Not particularly atmospheric. We have had better home cooked food. We definitely would not go back. Far better restaurants in Surrey for quality of food etc, and given this, the prices here were cheeky.

C
Christine Brown

What a pity the owner is uninterested: no wonder it's up for sale. There was an atmosphere which was uncomfortable, and it was obvious he didn't want to be there. The hospitality was non-existent, and the food was disappointing: the soup was just warm, not hot, and the saute potatoes were flabby, not crisp. The owner was constantly hovering and moving furniture round us and we were rushed. After spending over £164, I shall be happy never to step inside again. This is the first time I have ever written a bad review of a restaurant meal. A special occasion completely ruined.

B
Beki Plum

Sadly this was a disappointing experience. Online the menu looked fantastic but the reality was a tired, 70's dining experience (not in a retro way). The food was sub-standard. On a positive note the wine list was comprehensive and catered for all tastes and budgets. The waiter had a great sense of humour but unfortunately these pluses did not make up for the chef's lack of sophistication.

J
James Dennis

Our 3rd visit, previous two times were exceptional. Not sure what was going on today, but nasty atmosphere with one older waiter in particular bring curt, short, disinterested and unwelcoming. And this all started in the car park where he was rebuking customers parking. Hoped the food would make up for it but surprisingly it didn't, it was luke warm to cold, veg all waterlogged and tasteless, no crackling with pork, fish overcooked etc. Puds looked great but the profiteroles had barely any cream filling and we're stale. Completely changed our view of this restaurant.
