Sit at counter every time I go here. Stuff is always super friendly and helpful. Food is always cooked properly, food is always served timely and prices are very reasonable. Keep up the great job. I will continue to bring my business here and start my day with a smile.

The service was fast and courteous. There was a lot of good for the price. I swear I got half a fish which was really good, not a lot of batter just a lot of fish. Unfortunately I started eating before taking a photo.

Love Jay's diner. Been coming here since I was a kid though it's been a while. Reminds me of a 60s diner with the design and juke boxes at the booths. Food was great, service too. We'll be back again.

absolutely adorable diner! came with my neice before heading out on our drive home after visiting the Strong Museum, and we were not disappointed! friendly staff and tons of food options. my neice loved her burger and I got the falafel burger that was on special and it was delicious and huge! also snagged a cinnamon roll from their pastry case, which was just as good as it looked! Will be back the next time I'm in the area!!

Wonderful little diner! Being outside of the US for 7 years made me crave an authentic diner experience during my vacation here, and this place absolutely delivers! Bright & clean restaurant, delicious food, friendly servers- it’s everything I could’ve asked for and more! I highly recommend their breakfast menu, and their milkshakes are to die for 😤🙌

Jays diner is a staple of the area. Came by for lunch and a cheap movie across the street at movies 10. We had fish fry and falafel burger. Both were exactly what you would expect from a classic diner. Delicious! While here, there was a family celebrating a 91st birthday. She had been coming for over 50 years. The patina that may only come with age permeates this diner. Vinyl seats, neon lights, hot coffee bar, nostalgia. Thank you for being here, Jays.

We had a bacon omelette and broccoli & cheese omelette with breakfast potatoes. Food was good, service was fast and friendly. The only note of concern I would give is that you will pay more if you use a credit card for payment, as they have a surcharge they will add on. To save money, either pay cash or try somewhere else that doesn't surcharge for credit cards. The credit card surcharge is 3% or 4%.. somewhere in there I believe. It says on a sign posted on the door on the way in.

Quintessential American diner experience, with a few local specialties besides. Menu has good variety and staff was friendly and attentive; my group was a bit larger and they made it seem effortless to serve us.

This place is like out of the movies set in 60s. Their food is very good. Even at 12.30 after midnight people are here. This is a 24 hours diner. Their Chicken Caesar wrap was very good. Cheese burger is is juice and flavourful.

Stopped for "brunch" just before noon. Must be one of those rare times on the weekend this place has some parking spaces free. The breakfast food was outstanding and good sized portions. The waitress was great, efficient and friendly.

They were very busy. Server did not get our order right twice, so we have up and ate what we had. The cashier was awesome!

Traditional diner down to the garish neon signs, 24 hours operation, and full menu. We stopped for breakfast and were not disappointed by what we got. Prices were moderate, service was very fast, and the coffe flowed freely.

Corned beef hash that looks and tastes like corned beef hash is supposed to. The hash brown patties were underwhelming but everything else was great.

I've been visiting this place for nearly 20 years. Every time I visit family, this is the place to go. The servers are always friendly, the food is hot and delicious, and it's a great 24-hour place for a good chat n' chew. Started with chili (not pictured - my boyfriend couldn't wait) and chicken fingers. Gyro and french fries for me, and he had the roast beef sandwich. We took and piece of carrot cake for later, and it was amazing. Go. To. Jay's.

In all my 50 years, this place has NEVER failed to be the best around. The menu is absolutely huge, so many options! Vrry clean diner, with a retro comfortable atmosphere. Very kind and capable servers, delicious food....all without compromising their quality of food! I highly recommend! 24 hours a day 7days a week....used to be my go to for drunk food nights back in the day, and I absolutely love it the same to this day. Pictured are BLT club with fries, and a Gyro and feta omelet with peppers and onions added.

We went here again when we were in town for a hockey tournament and it did not disappoint again! Good food. Good service! The food was good especially if you like diners. The service was great as they were able to accommodate our 10 year old hockey team and their families 2 times during the President's Day tournament.

we love stopping here whenever we're going to movies 10 since it's across the street! i really enjoyed the falafel burger special & hope they have that back again sometime!! they also had a spanokopita special i'd love to try if i see that one available again. other times i've gotten breakfast, which is great as well! they also really nail the aesthetics!!! a neat vibe in terms of atmosphere for sure

If you're looking for a classic, no-frills diner experience in Rochester, Jay's Diner is worth checking out. The place has plenty of parking, which is a huge plus in a busy area, making it easy to swing by without any hassle. From the outside, it might look a bit run-down and dated, but don't let that fool you—step inside, and you'll be greeted by friendly hosts who provide top-notch service. Everything moves quickly, so whether you're in for a quick bite or a full meal, you won't be waiting around forever. The food is where Jay's really shines. Their omelets are fluffy and packed with flavor, and the pastas are hearty and satisfying—definitely don't disappoint. It's got that nostalgic vibe, like stepping back into a simpler time, perfect for comfort food that hits the spot. It's not fancy, but the delicious eats and efficient service make it a go-to spot for locals and visitors alike. Highly recommend for anyone craving diner classics!

We are here for our daughter having cancer treatments and don't know the area. We passed Jay's and it is pure retro. Been there twice and it was tremendously delicious. Home cooked meals and breakfast all day . Fast service and ask for a box to take home when ordering The portions are huge and delicious. You can get the famous Rochester garbage plate also. No way could you eat a meal that huge. Look at the pictures on line and you'll see. What a fimd find. Not fancy. Just great 👍🏻

I won't lie, I am a little hesitant when it comes to diners. They make their foods a little different. However, when I am out of town, I ALWAYS like to try news places; places I won't find in the Syracuse area. When I walked in, you see Jay's had that oldies diner atmosphere. Which is GREAT! You never see that anymore. I was also welcomed with a huge smile from Amanda V., who later become my server too. Before I looked at the menu, I told Amanda V. I wasn't from the area, and asked her what's something she would recommend. She pointed out 2 things; 1st was something that Rochester was actually known for (the Garbage Plate), and the 2nd was their top seller in the diner itself. Forget the name of the plate, but I remember that the price was mid-priced. I noticed in the past, most places like to point out the most expensive plate offered, and it makes me feel like they are all about the paycheck, and not the actual service itself. However, I ended up not going with either. Ended up going with the Cajun Pasta Prima Vera, and Home Fries. For anyone who can't handle their spice, the Cajun Pasta isn't that spicy, so you have nothing to worry about. The entire meal was delicious too. Had a little spice, so it wasn't the basic Chicken Alfredo. Now for the service itself. Amanda V. was extremely nice and friendly to me. However, as I sat, waiting for my meal to arrive, I noticed she also was the same to everyone else. Had a little laugh, and even had other customer laughing. Shows you she enjoys her job, and she is all about service. When it came to my ending, she asked me about any dessert. Told her meal was a lot bigger than I expected, and I was far too full to get anything else in. Once again, she had that laugh, and stated the Pasta meals usually do have a good amount of pasta. Guess that shows you're definitely not leaving hungry; even though the desserts did look delicious. If I didn't have a 2 hour drive home, I would have gotten something to go 20 October 2025

It’s a classic diner with a fab menu. Exactly what would expect ☺️ Corned beef hash [pictured] was delish and the Peanut Butter pie was light and fluffy. We only visited for breakfast so can’t speak on the lunch menu but it’s an affordable diner, would def recommend!

1950’s style diner. Don’t get out this way much so my first time here. Nostalgic atmosphere, nice and clean. Good breakfast, very reasonable prices, inexpensive by today’s standards. Had the everyday breakfast special, two pancakes, two eggs and bacon or breakfast sausage. Wife thought the pancakes were a little heavy but I liked them, sunny side up eggs were perfect and the sausage was good. Would definitely come back and try other items.

We were in town for my high school reunion and hit a few 'old' favorite spots. We had good service fromour server. The wrong plate of food was delived and quickly replaced with correct order. Just felt that it was a bit pricey for a diner breakfast. Wish I had gotten the hash crisper. Rye toast was just so-so.

J

Good desserts. Unfortunately, mine were a bit past their best time. I want to go back when the desserts are fresher.

Came for their Country Fried Steak and it was very flavorful and had a nice crunchy and juicy texture. It's also nice to have multiple options for toast, I love sourdough toast the best and they have that as well as rye, wheat, and white. Their coffee was good, though I had to pass on the first mug they gave me. I found an empty butter container in the mug, so minus one star, but I've been going for years and this was a first for me!

J

I got waffles and bananas cooked in it, I was surprised they didn’t have many fruit options. The waffles were nice and soft and not too sweet which is perfect. The soda kinda had a metal taste to it but the food was good otherwise. The service was excellent I don’t know the name of my waiter since she didn’t have a name tag but she was kind and gave great recommendations. My brother got chicken tenders and they didn’t taste too great, the fries were good. Our food also came in like 10 minutes the wait was so short.this was a great experience over all totally recommend.

♿️ accessibility throughout. Almost 60 years in business, Jay's reputation for food, prices & selection are worth your stopping in this bustling local fave. Today i sought after their Homemade NE Clam Chowder that I had heard was good & different, was a bit disappointing. Too creamy. Did they blend the potatoes, with the cream? Too smooth, with no chunks of ANY thing other than clam bits. No veg in it. Cream & clam bits. As bland as canned, too. I usually don't mind bland, but its 60 years famous, so maybe it's me? Next time, no clam chowder, but other choices, yes! The service staff is super friendly & efficient!

Nice place to bring a hot rod give you that 1970s vibe a little bit of Rochester history it was a great place to eat great people there love the coffee didn't like the meat choice only serves pork, not a big pork fan but everything else was good. food price was great definitely not a expensive place that’s a plus nowadays.

Nothing special here. I was hoping for a positive experience, my veggie burger was overcooked, to the point that it was very dry. I had been driving for seven hours and didn't want to wait for it to be remade. The strawberry rhubarb pie was just okay, typical food service pie. Nothing special. The restaurant could use a good clean up too, it looks rather worn down.

Food was just average and the service was meh at best. She had 2 ask what my drink was (water with lemon) and offered to refill it 32 before she actually did. Never came to check how the food was. So cute and Retro. Old school diner..omelette was alright, kind bland, veggie omelette.. Could have been more tasty for sure. .coffee was too weak for me to drink, I like my coffee strong..these folks would benefit from considering having more coffee options. Like cold brew..also no milk alternatives like oat or almond milk..but most places in the states dont have milk substitutes. Although it would be greatly appreciated...The servers were all very outspoken and sassy, and it was quite refreshing to experience. Love the New York accents. I love the ambience, vibe of the diner, old 50's/60's diner...that is what I liked the most...but the food not the best...although I did have a piece of pumpkin pie and it was yummy...coffee is awful...not worth drinking if you are a coffee person...get a coffee elsewhere and bring it in with you to have with your meal!!

J

This may have been the spot to be in the past, but on this trip, not so much. Also, the plates need to be replaced since they are cracked and spalled from multiple years of dishwashers, and have seen better days.

A cool looking traditional diner. We went there because if the high ratings of their clan chowder. It was awful. It was an off color thick, congealed mess with not one clam. There were miniscule pieces of something every once in a while in the bowl but not sure if it was clam pieces. Had no taste of clam chowder whatsoever. Not recommended!!!

G
Gabriel Wyrozebski

Food was decent. We got the steak on French bread and the Philly cheese steak. The steak on French bread wasn't great. It lacked a lot of flavor and was overcooked. The Philly cheese steak on the other hand was great. It was well seasoned and delicious. The vibe of this diner was wonderful. The 50's vibe was there with all the neon light and aesthetics. Lovely place with lots of options to chose from. Our waitress was awesome. She had a great sense of humor and made our visit even better. I would recommend this place if you'd like you get some good diner food.

As walking in there is a pleasant garbage or rotten food smell. The music box was very difficult to operate. The desert was ok. I could have done without it. The waitress was very polite and attentive. She checked in on us 3 times. The people behind me was banging on my chair. The mashed potatoes were like something from a foreign planet. They had a bounce to it like it was spring loaded. The roast beef was cooked very well done like shoe leather. Shoe leather surprise indigestion flip flop sandwich The French fries were beer battered and I don’t like that but I ate all of them. Good pickles! Scary bathrooms. A perfect dingy diner.

We love to come for lunch/dinner, the food is always good and reasonably priced. We came for breakfast today. The food was expensive, the options for breakfast were quite limited compared to other diners. We were disappointed that the “butter” served with the pancakes was actually a 51% vegetable oil “buttery spread” that left a noticeable aftertaste. The pancakes were not great themselves. The service was wonderful as always, food came out quick, and our waters and coffee were never empty. We will stick to lunch and dinner.

Went here for breakfast as suggested by my husband because it’s raved about all over websites in Rochester. First impression was ok it’s a diner so it’s going to be a little run down looking inside and out. The food was terrible! I ordered biscuits and gravy because It’s my favorite breakfast to make at home. I was expecting something amazing and ended up getting gravy that is clearly out of a jar and sausage that was mildly undercooked, The home fries were soggy not really edible in my opinion. My husband had the Chicago omelette, it was better than my order but again not the best. I would never recommend anyone eat here.

Passed by thinking this would be a great place to eat as there were many cars parked here. Ordered food to find out they were out of kebabs. Kiddo (18y) Ordered seafood platter and I the soup and feta omelette. Soup was great Food was cold by the time we got it and platter was over fried We won't be going back

Jay's has definitely gone downhill over the years. The food has gotten more lackluster, and a small orange juice was $4. They even managed to have toast that was simultaneously burned and too cold for the butter to really melt. 10 years ago I'd really recommend the place, now I'd recommend going anywhere else.

Food was good but service was poor. Not sure if the waitress was having a bad morning or just forgot about us. They missed the 2+2+2 goal of casual dining (greet, seat, beverages)

The food could definitely taste better. Didn’t care for the flies making out at our table. Price was decent but definitely lacking in the flavor department.

It was alright... There wasnt enough sauce on the burger or onions. The burger could have been fesher it was a little dry and seemed rushed. I ordered from door dash so I couldn't get compensated.... Maybe its better if u eat at the diner. The cake seemed like it was store bought and not homemade.

Service was good and the restaurant clean but the food is really lacking. I ordered a breakfast platter with pancakes and bacon, eggs over easy, and a side of toast. The bacon was overcooked, obviously had hung around on the grill for a long time, and whatever oil/spread they use to cook in pooled on the top of my eggs. They do not serve butter, but instead some margarine spread that was slathered on the toast. My dining companions ordered omelette that were served with potatoes—neither ate the potatoes which were served at about room temperature and tasteless. There are many better options out there.

The reason for the two star review is because the food is way overpriced for the quality. I could’ve went somewhere else and got a much better quality for the same price or a little less. I got the chicken Parmesan and it tasted like TV dinner chicken Parmesan. Very disappointed in the quality of the food for the price.

Fun atmosphere. Friendly waitress and seating staff. Not super busy after Friday main lunch. Easy to customize meal. Food was edible. Too pricey for quality. Out of town visiting.

The staff and the atmosphere was good The food on the other hand was below average I almost walked away without doing this but I had to look out for future customers we had dinner the gyro which was fake beef gyro meat... My wife ordered a burger on sourdough and her burger itself the meat was so thin for for 15 bucks come on I wish you would have taken a picture but like I said I had to put this after the fact I wasn't going to do this out of town or don't stop here

Not sure if the waitress had a bad day or not but she was not welcoming at all. I put my order in and when she returned with the food I asked if I could get ranch. (I forgot to ask when putting my order in.) She then walked into the kitchen complaining and talking shit that I asked for ranch. And the coworker would continue to walk by and chuckle. Not sure if I’ll be back. Very bad atmosphere. Very sad because the first time I went it was amazing and the waitress was awesome tipped her $15 the other girl should be fired!

I took my brother and sister in law here while in town on 7/14/25. I got the turkey melt. It had no flavor. My sister in law got eggs, bacon and french toast. The bacon was so fatty and her french toast wasn't dipped in egg. There was no flavor and the syrup wasn't even good fake syrup. My brother had a chicken gyro. The chicken was dry and the dressing he said wasn't good. We told our waitress she was great though. I haven't been there in years and it was not as good as it was. Food needs flavor. Prices too much for bland food.

Absolutely love, love Jay's! I especially love SARA! She's always got a smile on her face. She takes the time to listen to her customers and talk to them. She works doubles like I do and is still able to be funny and courteous and make sure that my family wants for nothing! She even knew the difference between a cranberry muffin and a blueberry.! AMANDA is our favorite on Sunday mornings. She's just like Sara, always friendly, always has a smile on her face, loves her job, and is great with kids and my elderly parents. Here's why my recent review of Jay's went from a five (5) star review to one (1). My dad had recently been admitted into the hospital, forty-eight (48) hours prior to this interaction at approximately 830p on 10/24/24. I don't know who the hostess was, but she was rude. She had no personality, she had no smile, and she had zero excitement or welcoming or warmth to her. She was wearing a Jack Skelington semi costume, which anyone who knows me knows I'm going to love, and I made the comment that I loved her outfit. No response. My husband agreed it was cute, and my mom asked who that was, and we laughed. She still didn't respond. Our waitress, we think, was Rutheve M., though we can't be sure she never introduced herself, and that was the name on the printed bill at the end of our meal. Waters were brought, and I was skipped because I asked for hot tea. The extra water that came with the hot tea had no lid, so by the time I was ready for my refill, the water was tepid at best. Ordering food was no picnic. There was constant interruption when anyone at our table was trying to order. A sentence couldn't be completed without her interjecting, and it was very confusing and upsetting for my Mom. We all knew exactly what we wanted, exactly how we wanted it, we were all doing breakfast, and we didn't care about up charges or extras. We just needed to get my mom to eat. Her husband of sixty (60) plus years was just brought into the ED by her daughter sitting at the table with her, and she has no idea what's going to happen. The food was excellent as always. Service was the pits. It's a good thing we loved our food because our waitress came back three (3) times in the two (2) plus hours we were there. Once to fill my mom and my husband's coffee. Didn't ask me about my tea or if I wanted water. The second time was to see if my mom or my husband wanted more coffee and to take my plate. By this time, I had started drinking my husband's water. It seemed as though a light bulb went off because she asked if I wanted more tea. I declined. The third time was to ask if we wanted desserts and boxes and dropped the check. That was it. That was the last time we saw her except when she was serving other tables. We had already had a rough forty-eight (48) hours. I just wanted to personally thank this waitress and this hostess for making the end of our crappy day feel worse and more unwelcoming than we were already feeling. If it wasn't for the reputation that Amanda and Sara had already established before this interaction, we would not be returning to Jay's.

Simply awful. The ham chunks were all fat in the omelet, my kids chicken tenders were the cheapest nasty tenders available, even the fried potatoes were sketchy. All of this for $28 with just water to drink. There are 50 better options within 5 minutes.

it took forever for us to get coffee. I happen to be really bad all water down. Food was nothing to brag about the atmosphere was dated and Uninviting, clearly people around here have low standards, would not recommend this place to any anybody, i have no idea howbthos place have 4 stars rating. It must have been paid for.

Today I was charged 29.00 for 2 pecan waffles two eggs with cheese two sausage patties and four thin cut slices of bacan. That is outrageous I was expecting to pay maybe $20 with tip so needless to say I will never be back here again .

This place has obviously seen better days. We are new to the Rochester area and love diners. Decided to go here instead of the Highland Park diner, which is closed for the holidays. I ordered a simple breakfast: 2 eggs, has browns, and pancakes. The eggs were ok, but the “hash browns” were obviously store bought and deep fried, in grease that tasted like it hadn’t been changed since 1977. The pancakes were dry and gritty, with a vegetable oil based butter substitute to put on the pancakes. The syrup came out of a plastic bottle that’s mainly used for ketchup and mustard. The atmosphere is definitely low key, with regulars that seem “interesting”. As I sat eating my meal, a kitchen worker came out and cackled at me as he walked past, adding to the strange atmosphere. I might be a diner snob, but the experience here was a huge disappointment. It’s kind of hard to mess up a basic breakfast. I kept thinking of what Gordon Ramsey would say about this place. Not going back unless he comes here to fix it up. One positive: my waitress (Nicole) was great.
