Had some co-workers recommend this place to me since it was around the corner. There was a bit of line arriving but they were so quick to get my food out I didn’t even care I had to wait in line. Haven’t had the cold subs but was recommended the hot subs were the best. I got a meatball sub and it was soooo good! They are on the expensive side but they use boar’s head meat and that stuff ain’t cheap and i don’t mind spending the extra dollar for quality ingredients.
Being a native of the Philadelphia area, everywhere I travel / live I sample what the locals boldly call a “Philly Cheesesteak“. In my short time on this Earth, I have found few places that measure up to an eastern Pennsylvania proper cheesesteak. Hoody’s I can say without equivocation, this. place. does. it. right. Anyone in the know is aware that bread is the secret, and the technique of incorporating the cheese and additional toppings into the meat is the technique for success. Folks. Hoody’s has it down! 10/10+. I would confidently argue that these folks have it down Pat’s (IYKYK) ;). ETHAN is an artist! This guy is not only a master of his craft, he is a darn nice guy that exceeds expectations in customer service and demeanor. If I could eat one every day, I would. But I don’t because I’m an adult and don’t want premature death and like seeing my toes without the use of a mirror. Do it. Get you one of their cheesesteaks. You will be very very happy. Then you can get a cheesesteak that truly is a Philly cheesesteak without having to go to Philadelphia and get mugged. God Bless! -C-
Way good!! Would recommend every one of the sandwiches here. Small menu which means they can focus on everything to make it great. One of my favorite places.
We stumbled upon this sandwich shop and are absolutely adding it into our regular rotation. Delicious sandwiches, outstanding customer service, and a real local/hometown feel with all of the sports memorabilia from over the years plastered on the walls throughout.
Dustin “The Hurricane” is amazing on that Grill! While grabbing some chips I noticed his hustle. What a guy, every time I’m there him and the staff are friendly like a family friend.
Visiting friend in Austin and he suggested Hoody’s sub shop. I was disappointed they had run out of sausage and owner enthusiastically recommended the meatball sandwich. I have never had a meatball sub I liked, mostly because I’m not fond of meatballs, but he was so sure I’d love it I ordered one. WOW, what an amazing sub. Meatballs were excellent, bread was perfect crispy, sauce amazing, and peppers & onions were the best I have ever tasted. I am soooo glad their sausage was so popular today, but the best of all, the owner who was so welcoming, joyfully visiting tables, and making sure everyone was well taken care of. Don’t walk, but RUN here for a great food experience.
I moved to Round Rock when I was in 3rd grade and this place has not changed. All of their subs are AMAZING and my favorite is the best philly cheesesteak on planet earth. Do yourself a favor and visit this local hidden gem in Round Rock close to Round Rock high school.
Goodness gracious. I’ll let the photos do most of the talking. Got the large Philly sub, toasted and buttery bread with ample filling. It came HOT, burned my mouth a bit so be careful eating it immediately. Had a soft, spicy kick, meat and cheese is standard, but there was an acidic flavor that brought out the flavor of all the other ingredients very well. Haven’t tried may Philly subs in Austin, but this one is going to be tough to beat for me.
I've been going to Hoody's since the 90s. Best philly cheesesteak around, hands down. Peppers, onions, mushrooms, cheese, meat, on the perfect bread. Service is always rather prompt and spectacular.
I went with a good friend of mine from South Austin to go eat a Philly cheesesteak from there and it was so delicious! Great sub and great service! Everyone one was so nice and friendly. Hoody was so awesome! Brought our food to us and kept checking on everyone that was eating and making sure we didn’t need anything. I would definitely make that drive again!
The sandwiches are delicious, my go-to is the Philly cheese steak. The meat has great flavor, the spicy peppers give it a little kick but don't over take the flavor of the meat and cheese. The atmosphere is laid back, sport on the tv, sports memorabilia on the walls along with pictures of celebrities and stuff. Highly recommend!
The Monday special of chicken cheese steak was great. All the items on the sandwich were fresh and the temperature was just right for our lunch repaste. The iced tea was also quite good and the bag of chips complemented the sandwich very well. Looking forward to our next trip there for one of the other weekday specials!!!
If you are looking for a Philly Cheesesteak in Austin, you really need to make a pilgrimage to Round Rock and check out Hoody's Subs. Yes, they have the right rolls. Yes, they use real ribeye steaks. Yes, they have grilled onion and peppers, mushrooms too if that's your thing. Yes, they have wiz, provolone, and America cheese. It may not have come from Henry Street in the City of Brotherly Love, but Hoody's is the real deal. If you go between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, be prepared for a wait in line, and yes, the line can be 20-30 deep. It's worth the wait. I like to get mayo on my cheese steak, and they have this sweet pepper relish that is really tasty. For my latest visit, I had the small Cheesesteak ($7.75 Large is $15.50). I wanted to also try their Italian sub, which is served cold (Small $7.50 Large $15.00) The Cheesesteak was perfect. It is so nice to taste one that is made properly. The Italian, meh. Not my thing. In full disclosure, I went to Hoody's a day after visiting Home Slice Pizza in Austin, which has the best Italian Hoagie in the city. My friend from Philly likes the Meatball Sub and the Grilled Chicken Sub (Both are Small $7.75 Large $15.50). They also have another Philly treat there, Tastykakes. Perfect as a side along with chips. If you haven't been there, make the trip. You can thank me later.
I HAVE NO WORDS ON HOW GOOD MY PHILLY CHEESE STEAK WAS FROM HERE! Tucked away in a small plaza. Non discreet. Only time they open on Sunday is for the SUPER BOWL! So I lucked out. The owner Hoody is from the Northeast and knows a little something about Cheese Steak 🥩. This is the best I have had in Texas! Don’t even try the franchise Sub Shops. I already did and they ain’t even close to this Iconic local owned Sub shop. COME HERE! Just Come here.
Hoody's is essentially an Austin staple at this point and it is well deserving of the reputation it has. Great service, great prices, and a simple but very high-quality menu. I've been a few times but I've been most impressed by their meatball sub. Delicious flavor in the meat and the bread has a fantastic chewy texture. Really everything on the menu is great, and portions are generous for the price. Each day they have a deal on a particular sub, and so the final price is of your whole meal is even more affordable than it already is! They also have Dirty brand potato chips, which are hard to find and I HIGHLY recommend trying them if you haven't yet. You really can't go wrong with Hoody's when you're in the mood for a sub sandwich. I really want to highlight that your money goes FAR when you come here. Stop by when you're in the neighborhood!
AMAZING SUBS. We ordered an Italian sandwich and a meatball sub. Both were everything I ever wanted on a sub. Kinda like the once Joey from friends eat. We would have ordered the philly steak one but it was so busy it was faster to get the faster options. It is busy in a good way. I instantly knew it was going to be fire by the amount of people waiting. I'll be going back for that philly soon.
All I can say is WOW! This place went way beyond my expectations. I’m from the northeast and sandwiches are pretty darn well represented up there, and I can say this place gave back home a run for its money. We shared a cheesesteak and a special sandwich. The cheesesteak was packed full of ribeye, peppers, onions, and mushrooms and just the right amount of cheese. The special is an enhanced version of their Italian sandwich. Both were awesome, and the bread was fantastic. The place stayed packed with a steady line. Service was polite counter service and the place looked fantastic, walls lined with photos of guests throughout the years, as well as plaques from little league sponsorships and newspaper clippings, it felt like home. The chip selection is also top notch. Do yourself a favor and try Hoody’s, it will definitely impress! Pics don’t do it justice because I couldn’t stop myself from taking a bite before snapping some photos.
Great little family sandwich shop. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of this place in Round Rock. We were there in a large party of 10 and the food came out quickly and ordering was easy. I got the Philly with hot peppers. I thought the hot peppers could have been hotter, but you milage may vary. They use very nice quality bread and other ingredients. Kids and adults all loved the subs and they have plenty of seating for everyone. They have some good vegetarian options as well. They have lots of sports memorabilia on the wall, so there's plenty to look at if your lunch partners are boring.

Best sandwich shop! I've been going for years. Great food great service. Best subs in central texas.\n\nTables are hand made wood.
My favorite place to go get a sandwich and spend time with my spouse for lunch. The crew is always positive and upbeat although it seems a little chaotic when you come, the food is awesome.

We love this place! Just a little ol' sandwich shop with great customer service and friendly staff! It's a small joint but worth the wait! Always on point with food! We always take our out of town …
WOW best sub of my life. I had the hot veg and it was ooey gooey melty. Can't wait to come back.
Solid sub shop. Everything is quality. Don't expect much for atmosphere it's all about quality of food. Definitely one of the best sun shops in ATX. They use Boars head products BTW:)

There's nothing wildly amazing about this place. It's just a solid, regular sandwich. It's not super creative or froofy and there sure as hell ain't any microgreens or quail eggs on anything. If you want a basic sandwich with good quality ingredients, this is it.
This place was hoppin’ today for lunch! Solid sandwiches. I ordered the large Italian because it was recommended by someone I follow on Instagram. I should’ve realized that a large order is a huge sandwich. That being said, I was hungry and could’ve eaten it all if I didn’t share some of it with my friends. My two friends shared a large Philly cheesesteak which is their most popular. Good stuff, but I need to ask if the restaurant does a Cheez Whiz version.
Delicious. Super messy Philly but so good. The ordering line sucks as the set is not good. service was good but again ordering setup sucks.
Philly steak was great. Nice environment and great customer service. Recommended to everyone
This place used to be awesome. Just got home and apparently they are serving bread sandwiches instead of cheesesteaks now.
